Another fantastic installment in the Ellery Hathaway series! This is easily my favorite thriller series because Schaffhausen does a fantastic job of writing an exciting storyline and intriguing characters.

Reed and Ellery are probably one of my favorite couples. They came together in such a horrific way, but they are definitely meant for one another! They are both driven, successful, tenacious, and flawed. They each have issues that they’re working on, but there is a lot of growth throughout this series. I loved all the little interactions between Ellery and Reed! They care about each other so much, but there is a heavy history between them and they’re both unsure if that will be too much. I like that they’re not a perfect couple. I think that is realistic. They fight, they argue, they hurt each other’s feelings. But they also show the other person they care, they’re patient, they look out for one another, and they come back together.

This storyline is my second favorite from this series (book 1’s storyline is still my favorite!). There are all these seemingly unconnected events from the past and present day and we have a heck of a time figuring out what is going on. Schaffhausen does a good job of leaving clues along the way, rather than just having the villain monologue at the end and explain everything to the hero. I hate when that happens. The storyline moves along at a good pace and I had a difficult time putting the book down! I loved how everything was solved at the end.

I’m thrilled to see there will be another Ellery Hathaway book!! Just based on the epilogue, I think it will be the most exciting book yet and I can’t wait!

This is my favorite book in the series so far!
From the outside this story seems like a simple kidnapping, but do not be fooled! I loved the complexity in this book. It had me guessing and second guessing throughout! It is always a pleasure to get caught up with Ellery and Reed. Their relationship is forever growing both personally and professionally. There is lots to love in this story and I cannot wait to see where the story goes next!

Another excellent book! I happened on the first book by accident and quickly caught up on the series with the second book and have waited impatiently for each of the next two books and I wasn't disappointed. The author came up with an original idea (at least to me) of a serial killer survivor, Ellery Hathaway, having an odd, intense, and seemingly unbreakable bond with her savior, FBI agent Reed Markham. They are both stubborn, determined, and don't give up. Ellery is now with Boston PD. While she and Reed are trying to enjoy some time at a fair with Reed's young daughter, a stressful situation for Ellery, a teenage girl disappears. Ellery and her partner are on the case with Reed working unofficially on the periphery since he's on vacation. This case brings back many memories for Ellery that are already so close to the surface. The author does a great job of keeping you guessing throughout the book and the more time the girl is missing, the faster I read. I was shocked at the ending, but not for the reasons you may think (but I don't want to give anything away). And it's clear there's another book, thank goodness. Of course, that means more waiting....

Ellery and Reed are thrown together again to solve another harrowing child kidnapping. Here again, we hope they're going to get together as a couple for good in the end...but Schaffhausen leaves us hanging again and with another plot ready to go!!! Can't wait for the next installment!

Book 4 in the Ellery Hathaway and Reed Markham series and it just keeps going from strength to strength. Another fantastic instalment that will keep you turning pages. While this could be read as a stand alone I highly recommend reading the first 3 books to understand the characters better.

This time there is a case that hits close to home for Ellery. As a teenager she was saved from a serial killer. by FBI agent Reed Markham. 16 years later na they are working together on a missing girl case. Chloe Lockhart disappears from a street fair in Boston. The family has plenty of secrets and an solved murder in their past so you can be sure that this is one twisty story.

Thanks to St Martin’s Press and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.

What a thriller! Every Waking Hour by Joanna Schaffhausen is the fourth book in the Ellery and Reed series and the first book I read by this author. There was so much going on in this book from very early on that made it a true thriller and very exciting. The author included details from the first three books that helps the reader know more about the characters.

In this book, a child goes missing from a prominent family and Ellery and Reed are racing against the clock to find her. There are also a few other unsolved crimes woven into the book that has the reader hooked. Can Ellery and Reed save the girl in time?

I adore the Ellery Hathaway series, and Joanna Schaffhausen’s Every Waking Hour doesn’t disappoint. When a privileged young tween goes missing, Ellery and Reed are tapped to investigate her disappearance. As family secrets are spilled and much of it forces Ellery to relive her own abduction and survival, Schaffhausen creates a thriller and mystery that is clever to solve, emotionally intelligent, and the only fault I found was the ending, which I hope is a pause rather than a permanent situation. If you enjoy a well written thriller that doesn’t carry pretentiousness but offers a smart read, the Ellery Hathaway series is one to read.

There was so much going on in Every Waking Hour by Joanna Schaffhausen that it really was a thrill ride, and I’m not just saying that to make the book more marketable!

When Chelsea Cain stopped writing her serial killer series (which I highly recommend) I kept trying to find a new series to take its place. And while the Ellery Hathaway series is a bit different it is so good. There’s tons of background information from the previous three books that Schaffhausen does an excellent weaving into this story so you don’t feel lost. But you really should start the series from the beginning with Vanishing Season, to pick up all the subtle nuances of the characters.

Obviously since this is a suspenseful thriller I don’t want to give anything away, but just as soon as they were onto one suspect something else would happen that would take it into a different direction. And while you have a missing child there is also another case that Reed is looking into more at the same time. This was a similar technique that was done in book three, and in both books it worked out really well.

And the way that Every Waking Hour ends…. Dang!

I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories and LOVED this one. The main character is the kind of strong lady with a dark past that you root for immediately. Joanna did a great job of weaving this mystery together.

Every Waking Hour by Joanna Schaffhausen is the fourth entry in the Ellery Hathaway/Reed Markham series. Wow! This was such a great book! Please read the previous three books before reading this so you are aware of Ellery and Reed's backstories. It is very important that you understand that before reading this one. Ellery and Reed once again get pulled into a missing persons case in Boston. A 12 year old girl disappears from a park one day in front of hundreds of people. Where did she go? How did no one see anything? She is from a wealthy family and this isn't the first or even second tragedy they have had happen. This was such a great mystery to read. There were several different plot lines going on and also the relationship between Ellery and Reed is explored more. I don't want to give too much away on that. Please read this book and more importantly this whole series! It has quickly become one of my favorites. Ellery is such a complicated person and I love reading about her and Reed's relationship. From the way this ends there is sure to be a fifth entry in the series! If not I'll be so upset. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Every Waking Hour (Ellery Hathaway #4) by Joanna Schaffhausen

In Every Waking Hour, the fourth book in the Ellery Hathaway/Reed Markham series, Ellery and Reed, the FBI agent who saved her from a serial killer years ago, have moved forward in their quiet relationship. Ellery will never be "okay" after her kidnap, rape, and torture, all those years ago, but she's now a detective in Boston and Reed and his seven year old daughter, Tula, are visiting her.  And then there is the ever present Speed Bump, Ellery's cute, lumbering Basset Hound.

The story begins with a missing twelve year old who seems to just walk away from her nanny, under her own free will. But soon after, there is a note from someone saying that they have her and this is all happening due to transgressions on the part of Chloe's mom. Reed, as an FBI profiler and Ellery, as an expert in child abductions, set to work trying to understand just what has happened to Chloe and who might have her.

While being wrapped up in this quick moving case, which involves at least three families with shady characters in each of them, Reed and Ellery are also dealing with Reed's ex wife and the threat of her allowing Tula to have less time in his life. Sarit, Reed's ex, doesn't like Ellery, doesn't want Tula around her, and is deeply bitter about Reed's commitment to his job and Ellery. Having been with these characters for four books now, it's easy to move right into the story and their heads, feeling the tension, doubts, and fears of the characters. The story ends with signs of a fifth offering on the horizon and I cannot wait to be with Ellery and Reed again.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books and NetGalley for this ARC.

Sometimes being in the right place at the right time makes all the difference!

Ellery Hathaway and Reed Markham’s relationship has finally progressed to the next level and it’s about time. If only they could sit back and enjoy it!

Unfortunately for Ellery, while out and about in Boston with Reed and his daughter Tula, both Reed and Ellery are on the scene when twelve year old Chloe Lockhart goes missing. It’s an eerily familiar moment for Ellery as she was kidnapped at the age of fourteen and yet, all she can focus on right now is finding Chloe Lockhart.

As an FBI Profiler, Reed Markham consults with the Boston PD, which is extremely helpful when the team finds out that the Lockhart family has had more than one family tragedy.

Noone is safe and tensions are high. It’s therefore only a matter of time before something goes awry.

A crazy, enthralling mystery suspense that engaged all of my senses from the get go, “Every Waking Hour” delivers!

As for the ending, thanks for that epic cliffhanger, Joanna Schaffhausen! I cannot wait for the next book in this fantastic series!

A fabulous buddy read with Kaceey!

Thank you to Minotaur Books, NetGalley and Joanna Schaffhausen for the arc.

I started reading this without any knowledge of the plot or the series itself and I’m glad I did. I was surpassed at each page. It’s a gruesome story and I only wish I had read the prequels to this book

Ellery is a survivor. As a teen, she was held captive by a madman and survived. Now a Boston Detective, Ellery aspires to save others as she once was. Reed Markham, an FBI profiler, was the young detective that rescued her. Being a survivor and a rescuer, they developed a closeness that budded into a real relationship.

Together, Reed and Ellery are on the hunt of a kidnapped child named Chloe, hoping to find her before it’s too late. They hurry to find answers to who took the child, as their relationship becomes strained and their lives become more complicated. Ellery struggles to stop thinking of her own kidnapping during this case, but she is also obsessed for another reason – the first child of Chloe’s mom was murdered. Are these two cases related? If so, with the abductor kill again?

Every Waking Hour is the fourth book in Joanna Schaffhausen's Ellery Hathaway series. While reading, I often found myself asking the question “Why am I just now hearing of this series?!” I want to shout it from the rooftops – this is so good! This book can be a standalone, but if the previous books in this series is anything like this one, I would recommend starting at the beginning. It’ll be worth it!

Thank you NETGALLEY, Joanna Schaffhausen, St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. ❤️️

Every Waking Hour by Joanna Schaffhausen is a superb read with well-defined characters and plotline. Definitely a page turner and well worth a read!

This series never gets old or disappoints, it stays fresh with Ellery and Reed and the fabulous plots and interactions. This is no different and far too close to home for Ellery. A missing child is a hot button for anyone, but especially someone like Ellery who has been there. Chloe is that hot button for Ellery and she will stop at literally nothing to do everything within her power to save Chloe. The string of coincidences is too tangled to unravel and perhaps Chloe's abduction has nothing to do with the present. Meanwhile Ellery struggles with the damage from her abduction, it is impossible to not hope for her to find happiness someday.

A great series and installment that keeps you invested and intrigued.

Oh my goodness but this is the most fantastic series! Ellery Hathaway is a marvelous character - she's broken and bent and watching her put herself back together again as she struggles to develop as a person despite what happened to her when she was so young is absolutely fascinating and horrifying in equal measure. Add in the complexities of Reed Markham, the challenges family represents to both of them, and the difficulties they encounter in their work rescuing children, and the mix is an absolutely brilliant series. The characterizations are incredible here - complex, complicated, and fully the dimensional, displaying human frailty from so many angles... The writing is wonderful - the style, the pacing, the plot are all delivered with a pinpoint precision that makes the books a joy to read even when the material is dark and horrifying. And I cannot believe how this one ends - here's hoping Schaffhausen has the next one almost written because I simply cannot wait more than a year to see how it's all going to play out!

Another fast paced, race to the finish book in this series! I loved this newest installment and flew through it in one day. The plot moves along at a nice clip and I was frantically turning the pages during the big reveal. The character development in this series is fantastic and each book leaves me wanting more of the characters! I loved book 4 and look forward to the next in the series! My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

4.5*
Book four of the Ellery Hathaway series.
And all I can say is fabulous! Yet another superb read. This series just keeps getting better.

Ellery is spending some much needed downtime from her job as a rookie police detective, together with her love, Reed Markham. Who remarkably happens to be the FBI agent that helped rescue Ellery years ago. She had been abducted and was being held captive by a madman when she was just a teen. Not surprisingly, they have formed a special bond and now exploring how far to take their relationship.

But can either of them truly be off the clock from their jobs? Not in this particular line of work. After a young teen vanishes from the local fair they’re visiting, they automatically take the lead in the investigation to find her before time runs out.

Once again, Joanna Schaffhausen has written a brilliant addition to this series that will have you super-glued to the pages. An equal mix of police procedural and romance. I loved watching Ellery and Reed navigate the case along with their budding relationship.

I highly recommend this complete series, and though this book can easily stand on its own, starting with book one The Vanishing Season will give you the best reading experience.

A buddy read with Susanne that we both enjoyed immensely.

Thank you to Minotaur Books via Netgalley for an ARC to read and review.

The fourth book in the Ellery Hathaway series is just as riveting as the first three and can be read as a standalone. In this book, a child is missing and Ellery and her partner Dorie are engaged to find her. Agent Reed Markham, the agent who rescued Ellery when she was kidnapped, is on the case and is also working on his relationship with Ellery. The whole relationship thing is complicated because Reed has his daughter Tori with him in town and a very irate wife who wants nothing more than for Reed to stay away from Ellery since she seems to attract trouble. The plot about the missing child seemed to almost take second stage to the dynamics happening between the characters, but that was fine with me because the whole book was highly entertaining. Ellery has to use her intuition to find Chloe and follows her instincts in spite of the uphill battle that she has to fight to get people to listen to her. I highly recommend this book to fans of police procedurals, thrillers and suspense with just a tad of romance.
