Young widowed Holly Farthingale has no desire to marry again and suffer the heartache and loss. She attempts to hide the book of love and runs into a very handsome and naked army Captain Joshua Brayden. She is headed to London to chaperone her sisters and she wants no part of the much sort after captain, but the more she wants to avoid him, the more he wants her. Secrets have a way of coming out and Joshua knows to protect Holly he must marry her. An enchanting story a naïve young widow and the army Captain who sets her heart to flutter and the sparks fly as they come together. An excellent story I voluntarily read and wrote this review.

Holly, poor sweet, innocent Holly. I fell in love with Holly and sympathized with her past so much. She was so young and just thrown to the wolves. She survived but had the scars, though hidden, to prove it. Her family never questioned anything and took her at surface level. She was a shell of her former self for 5 years, and was so happy to see Joshua come by. It was love at first touch and I love that he was the one to notice and react. He was patient and kind with her; always there to help her through her past and prepare her for their future. It was a beautiful book and as a avid reader of the Book of Love series it fit in perfectly. I am so excited for the next book; they just keep getting better!

Holly Farthingale is a young widow who hardly knew her husband before he went off to war and met his untimely end. She does not want to go through the pain of that loss again and intends never to marry. But now that she has come to London to chaperone her younger sisters during their debut season, her family is pushing The Book of Love at her and insisting she discover the meaning of true love. When she meets Joshua Brayden stepping out of his bath she's stunned but warmed in places she didn't know existed. As secrets from her past come back to haunt her and may place her life in danger, Joshua knows he must marry Holly to protect her.
This is the seventh book in this lovely series, it could be read on its own but if like me you love series then you’ll want to not only read this series but the author’s other series as she’s building a delightful world with characters from other books & series popping up - which I love.
Oh Joshua a toe curling gorgeous hero, as well as lovely to look at he’s loyal, honourable, plus falls hard & fast for Holly. Holly has kept a huge secret from her family & after her first marriage has hidden in plain sight by wearing drab clothes & blending into the background but after seeing Joshua emerging from his bath her eyes are quite literally opened. I loved how their relationship developed, they were perfect for each other. A well written engrossing read that was a delightful mix of romance & humour, I hope the series continues & continues
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Cute, cute, CUTE. Fun dialogue, some funnier misunderstandings, an interesting villain, and steamy love scenes - just what I’ve come to expect from Meara Platt.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This is the first of the books in the "Book of Love" series by Meara Platt that I've read. I enjoyed this book, "The Chance at Love" as a steamy romance and if I can find the time I'd love to read more of the series. Captain Joshua and Holly meet in the middle of the night over the Book of Love that has been passed between their two families. Some of their cousins and siblings have already married between the two families all because of this book.

Holly is hesitant with regards to love due to a disastrous first marriage and she is scared to even think about trying to fall in love. Joshua is attracted to Holly but at first is hesitant to fall prey to the legend of the book. This book definitely brings romance between the two main characters and a bit of mystery to it with respect to Holly's first marriage. It keeps readers engaged throughout. The expected price on Amazon.com is an excellent price point for the book at 99 cents so go and check it out!

Thank you to Netgalley and Dragonblade Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Will she be able to let the past go to open her heart to love ...

How I love those Farthingale and Braydens, the heroines are fun and the heroes so chivalrous.
Yet Holly is not the usual jovial Farthingale, she carries a sadness like her personal signature.
She has a past and it left her a shell of herself, she married young and her marriage was unconventional which left her doubting herself.
So when her past comes haunting her, she must decides if she will let it eat at her again or finally stand for herself.
Joshua is the classic Brayden, once he has set his eyes on the right woman, whatever he tells himself, he is a goner. And Holly did it to him. But he also fells she hold back, that something or someone restrains her from going forward.
It will be up to them to decide to work together.

I loved the twist in the story as it is the hero who finds himself guarding the book of love, it is a change as it is him having to catch the heroine.
And the first scene was like every book by Meara Platt, full of fun and setting the pace of the story.
This new addition in this series is sweet and quite sensual.

Holly Farthingale Gleason is a widow who lived a loveless, chaste marriage before her husband went to war and died. Her family has passed on to her a Book of Love, which they believe has helped them find their own love matches. Desperate to hide the book, Holly accidentally encounters Captain Joshua Brayden…wet and naked!

This is the seventh book in the Book of Love series, and the second that I have read. Many family members and couples from the other novels are involved, but it did not take away from my enjoyment of this story. I love how the tale started, with Holly inadvertently catching Joshua bathing. I wish the rest of the story had held onto that chemistry and humor. The pair quickly marry, and a villain plot just as quickly arises. I wanted more time to appreciate the main characters, but those who love insta-love and protector hero tropes will enjoy this book.

This book was part of a series and should not be read out of order. I know it says you can, but it didn't make very much sense because there were so many references to past books and relationships. In fact, the majority of the time, the heroine us talking to her friends and their conversations revolve around what the book did to their lives. And it was the same as the men. Near the end of the story, they are still talking about the 'Book of Love' that young woman are using to find their spouses. So the entire story is that the heroine doesn't want the book, was trying to hide it in the house of a friend that is on vacation. But the house is occupied by the hero who is also a friend of the home owner. And is known to the heroine. She sees him naked, she is a widow and she doesn't want to be married again. The whole premise of the story is inconsequential. The heroine is a widow who never had marital relations and is too obedient, loyal and quiet to complain.so for the two years of her marriage, she invites her husbands friends over for dinner. She would go to bed and her husband would 'entertain' the guests. But she is too naive to understand what is going on. And when her husband's best friend is sent to war by his father, he goes with him and they both die on the boat taking them to war. When the hero explains the heterosexual nature of their relationship, she is just ambitious. What? She is a virgin, who is religious and taught about Sodom and Gomorah and how this is sinful. But she just has no emotion to that fact. Then they have the husband's best friends brother chasing her because he was the one who spilled the beans about the heterosexual relationship and is the reason why the friend was sent to war. Well, the brother is trying to kill her so they can apologize to the dead brother. But the brother is dying of something, probably syphilis, based on the author's description. And the hero decides to read the book to understand women and he falls in live. It is really not a good or story. This book earned no stars and no recommendation. I do not know what the other reviewers found engaging about this book, because I couldn't find anything.

I've read a few of the books in the Book of Love series and the story of Holly Farthingale and Captain Joshua Brayden is my favorite so far. Ms. Platt is masterful as she slowly reveals Holly's secret as Holly recounts details of her marriage to Joshua. Holly is a shell of her former self and Joshua realizes he can help her recapture her joy of life once again. Joshua is such an honorable hero and his treatment of Holly is a combination of support and helping bolster Holly's self confidence. Their chemistry together was strong. I was glad to see there was an obstacle/villain in this story besides the H or h self doubt. I can't wait to read Ronan and Dahlia's story.

When a book starts with a naked hero just getting out of his bath, having been disturbed by the heroine who has wandered in on him by accident, then I think you get an immediate feel for where the book is likely to go. Like the other books in this series, once the book of love comes into the hands of our heroine, her future happiness with the hero and their trip down the aisle is bound to follow.
This time we have young widow Holly. Although she married young, she really has very little experience with men. Her young husband was never interested in her as a woman and she's barely even been kissed before never mind anything else. After the disaster of her marriage and the guilt that she feels for the way things turned out after her husband died at sea, Holly believes that she doesn't deserve to find love. Meeting Joshua changes all of that.
Joshua and Holly seem to be well matched. While Holly is reserved and keeps things to herself, she isn't a weak character. Joshua seems to be able to draw her out and they work well together. Overall this is a fun regency style romance with a bit of adventure thrown in.

Harry and Monty bring us the best of the best friends to marriage stories. This book was fun, sweet, spicy and I did get teary eyed a couple of times. Harry has loved Monty forever but he doesn't see her as a woman until she takes drastic measures. These two are so perfect for each and the nugget of information he gives Harry about himself towards the end just made the book so much more. It melted heart and mine. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book. The relationship between
Harry and her twin brother is beautiful. The friendship within their "gang" adds to the story. The whole series has been unique and entertaining. I look forward to reading more by this author

Holly Farthingale’s family is insisting that she discover the meaning of true love, as explained in ‘The Book of Love’. Yet as a widow to a man, who left her soon after their marriage to go to war, she is reluctant to marry again. Yet when she meets Joshua Brayden, an army captain, she finds her ability to avoid him, becoming less so as he is determined to show her the truth behind the Book of Love, and how they are meant to be together.
This is definitely a sweet romance, between a strong and honest man to a woman scarred by her past. Joshua is definitely her knight in shining armour, and it was quite lovely to see his determination to win over Holly, not overwhelming but caring and genuine. Secondary characters from both Holly and Joshua’s families, made this story even more enjoyable.

Young widow Holly Farthingale has had her self-confidence whittled away by her husband and his family. Now she tries to hide herself among the older ladies. She refuses to have anything to do with that pesky book.

Army Captain Joshua Brayden comes from a family of strong characters with a very protective streak. The beautiful widow needs to break out of her cocoon. He knows the signs of someone with battle fatigue.

This historical romance is a lot of fun with some danger. All the characters are very easy to fall in love with. The "Book of Love" is what ties the series together as it's passed from one person to the next. Each book can be read alone, but they are all fun in different ways so I recommend reading them all.

Really good fun.

This series makes my heart sing. I have wanted to read this book since the preview, chapter one, was posted in book six. Chapter one sets the perfect tone for the story. Fast-paced and brilliant!

This book was perfect. Meara Platt always developes the best characters. I have wanted Holly to have her happy ending since the sweet widow made her debut in a previous book. And who better of course to give her happiness than a Brayden. Joshua is such a loving hero. Together these two make a wonderful couple. It is always great to read about previous characters and loved them making an appearance. I look forward reading book eight.

Meara Platt is an incredible author. I have loved every book that I have read. I look forward to her future books.

A very naïve and innocent woman, Holly, falls in love with a man, Joshua, who only wants to protect her. In loving her, he gives her the confidence to protect herself from danger. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

The story has much potential but it was slow and very repetitive with the romantic thoughts of the main characters. I found too much repeated sexual innuendo. When they finally get together, the sex scene is spread out into more than one page. The plot was late, weak, and the outcome expected.

Beautiful and uplifting, heartbreaking and breathtaking.
What more can you say . Everyone deserves The Chance Of Love.

Holly Farthingale and Joshua Brayden are just made for each other . From their first meeting where she hits him with a candlestick, to the second where he’s starkers and she’s in her nightie, the chemistry fairly starts to drips from the pages of this book. So does the sexual tension.

Joshua is like all the Brayden boys , he’s a hero to die for . Get ready to swoon ladies , this man just about has it all.
And Holly is in need of anything he can spare.
His thoughtful nature and passion for Holly are second to non.
It’s a wonderful book to read and thoroughly enjoyable .
I’ve always loved Meara’s books, I think this one could be my favourite so far Of this series.
