Alice Feeney is once again playing mind games with us and she does it oh so skillfully. In my favorite genre of dark and twisty psychological mystery thrillers, Feeney is on my short list of Definitely Must Read!

I listened to this one in audio book format and was initially surprised by the sound quality of one of the readers. The voice recording was so eerie and it lent itself so well creating the dark and sinister atmosphere that envelops this story. Initially, I struggled to understand why the recording of that character seemed off, but as I went deeper into the story, I discovered that the method of recording really enhanced the feel of the tale being told for me.

As for the story itself, I could not stop listening! I became completely engrossed in this gripping tale of old wrongs and damaged people who are thrust into each others orbits once again. Told in the alternating perspectives of "His", Detective Chief Inspector Jack Harper, "Hers" reporter Anna Anderson, and the Killers...
Jack and Anna's story unfolds and the Killer's weaves itself in like a snake through the littered forest floor. You think you hear something, you might have seen something out of the corner of your eye, but the harder you look for it the more you realize you can't see exactly what is happening until it is too late.

Firstly, thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. I did listen in the NetGalley shelf app, and I did experience some issues with the audio. It would freeze every few chapters, and I would have to close the app out and play again. It did pick up where I left off. Now, onto my review of this excellent book.

Holy smokes! The twists in this I did not see coming. Anna Andrews is a covering presenter on the BBC News. She is covering on a woman out on maternity leave, but is quickly delegated back to correspondent once her coworker returns to work. This results in Anna covering the murder scene of a woman she went to school with. The police detective covering this murder also has a history the victim. Feeney delves slowly into the lives of Jack and Anna. Anna is not exactly a likable character, but the reader is slowly given back story into Anna's life growing up. As more bodies pile up and Anna is somehow connected to each scene, Anna goes from reporter to possible suspect.

I could not stop listening to this book. The narrators, Richard Armitage and Stepanie Racine, do an excellent job giving a voice to these characters. I could be biased as I absolutely love British accents, but they each gave a lot of feeling (confusion, sadness, fear, etc.) to the characters. And let's not forget the ending!! The twists abound in this novel, and while I did have a few questions over aspects that I appear feel rushed, overall it is a solid novel. I highly recommend for a quick read/listen.

This is my first audio book from NetGalley Shelf. Twenty years ago I listened to an audio book, in my truck, and then listened to the nonfiction, How Not to Diet, recently so I'm a very novice audiobook listener. I had some difficulty with the app because it didn't start with the first chapter and then skipped chapters. I tried to go back and listen to anything I missed but the glitch made for a choppy listening experience. For this reason, I would have very much preferred reading the book but thus far have not been able to get my hands on the digital version.

Still, I certainly got the gist of things and enjoyed the story. The book is chock full of unlikeable characters and almost every one of them could be a red herring for the murderer, until they weren't anymore...not telling why though. We have three narrators and nobody is reliable whether because they outright lie or because the truth is hard to face. One narrator is "her", Anna Andrews, a newsreader/reporter, another is "him", Jack Harper, Anna's detective ex-husband, and the third narrator is the murderer. In the audio version, the murderer's voice is distorted so we don't know if it is a male or female, leaving us not knowing if the murderer is "him", "her", or anyone else.

The book starts right before the first murder and then things happen fast, with bodies piling up. Anna is sent to report on the murder/murders and Jack is the lead investigator and quickly also a suspect in the murders. Is Jack guilty or is someone setting him up? We just don't know because we can't be sure who is telling us the truth and who is lying to us, as the book progresses. I might go back and read the printed version of the book at some time since I think I'd bet a better idea of things by reading the book in order (rather than getting the audio chapters out of order, as happened to me with my first use of this new app).

THIS THRILLER!!!!! What a perfectly creepy audiobook to listen to--I can't imagine how well this one will fly in print but it is fantastic on audio. Excellent narration by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine makes for one compulsively readable book. I found myself trying to find extra household chores and taking longer walks just so I could keep listening.

This is the story of an ex-husband and wife who are both tracking the same set of crimes for different reasons. She, a network news reporter, and he, a cop, are both suspicious of each other's close involvement with the victims as the bodies pile up. Add in a creepy third narrator (a modified voice of the killer), and this one will have you guessing all the way to the end. Red herrings abound, and just when you think you've got this one figured out, Feeney knocks you out with another punch. It isn't until the VERY end that you actually find out what happens.

If I had one gripe it would be that the story felt a touch too long. The denouement was too lengthy for me, but I understand the author's reasons for including it. I also think it missed the final perspectives from one character, but again, these gripes are just minor. All in all a great thriller that would be perfect to bust you out of a reading rut. PICK.

I originally read this book which certainly took some getting used to. On seeing the audiobook I was interested to see if it felt different. It was better! Exactly the same story but by using two narrators (male and female) it makes the story so much clear. I can certainly understand the authors perception by listening to the audiobook.
The story flicks between narration of him then her. The story is centred around Jack and his ex wife Anna. Jack is a detective and Anna a journalist for the BBC. What re connects them is a series of murders in the place they grew up. And they are both connected to the victims.
The book will have you constantly guessing over who is the guilty party.. Lots of twists and turns and a fantastic ending

His and hers is full of suspense,edge of your seat content that just has you wanting to read on and on until you finish!! This follows Anne a news reporter who wants to solve the case of the Murder that has happened in this usually quiet British town and Detective Jack harper who is the leader of the murder case. These two people are linked together but how... you will have to find out for yourselves 😆.

It’s definitely a guessing game throughout with so many twist and turns and full of suspense.

It was such an amazing book that I recommend so much, and it was one of the best thrillers I’ve read in a long!!!

The audiobook was such a great route to go and I loved both narrators voices and they suited the Story so well.

I absolutely loved the style of this book and it had me hooked right from the start. The two perspectives flowed well, and the characters were complex and intriguing. The pace was quick, and the story unfolded in a way that literally had me guessing until the plot twisting finale. I was so wrong in how I thought it would turn out, but that made it oh so much more fun! Would definitely recommend!

This was my first audiobook and I. AM. HOOKED. I have seen many raving reviews for Alice Feeney's other novels and a few great reviews for this novel from people lucky enough to get their hands on a copy early. When I saw this was a "listen now" on NetGalley's new app, I immediately downloaded and started listening on my drive home. I have no criticisms for this book at all. I loved the multiple POV's- his, hers, & the killer's. I think the quality of the readers and their voices were perfect. But mostly, I loved how Feeney laid out the book. She had small twists set up from the beginning of the book, such as how the characters knew each other. Well done thrillers introduce the killer early, keep them relevant, and still make it shocking when you find out they are the killer, and this novel did just that. It takes talent to not allow the reader to suspect who the murderer is, and then still have the book wrap up neatly in a tiny bow while the reader shakes his head. This will definitely be a novel I recommend to many and one I will ruminate over.
I am starting Feeney's "Sometimes I Lie" next. I am now a fan of hers AND audiobooks!

I’m not sure where to even begin. As a thriller this was quite a ride. Twists & turns that were shocking, pleasing and disturbing. The beauty of this book is the slow release of information adding so many layers and enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing & engaged. A few surprises I saw coming, but the big reveal was OFF THE RAILS, BAT SHIT CRAZY. Credit to author Alice Feeney, as it did have enough plausibility that I was stunned, but impressed with her ingenuity.

I wasn’t crazy about all the violence, gore and brutality, but it explains the reason why the murders took place. I think it’s best going into this book with as little information as possible.

It took me a bit to get into the narration. While I instantly loved the voice of Anna, I had difficulty understanding the heavy British accent presented by Richard Armitage. I do think the audio narration added to the intensity and suspense and would easily recommend.

Loved this book it blew me away! I read it in one sitting and the real plot twist, and it is only revealed in the last chapter. Extremely well written, it left my head spinning as I jumped between suspicions of each character being the culprit. If you’re considering reading “his and hers” then I would highly recommend you try it - you won’t be disappointed - you’ll be pulled in from the first page.

This is the first novel to me by Alice but will not be the last.

I was able to both listen and read His & Hers by Alice Feeney thanks to the generosity of Macmillan Audio, NetGalley, and Flatiron Books. I’m really grateful for this because I listen to audiobooks during the day and I read at night. I had a hard time turning His & Hers off so being able to transition over to a DRC and continue my fascination with this thriller was much appreciated!

There are three narrators in this story; Anna Andrews, her ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper and the killer themselves who uses a voice modulator so we are unable to ascertain their gender or anything else about them. Anna is a BBC reporter investigating a murder of a woman in the countryside village of Blackdown where she and Jack grew up, also where Jack now resides and works as a DCI. Things get a bit hairy when it turns out they both knew the victim and each had a fairly dodgy history with her. The story alternates timelines but does so in a way that gives insight in to the personal history of the characters involved. As more murders occur with Anna and Jack tied to the victims, it’s a race to find the killer before they strike again. One thing is certain, nobody can be trusted.

Fast paced with strong affecting characters and a twisty plot, His & Hers is a compelling read from start to finish. The complexity of the story adds to its allure and had me suspicious of everyone. Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine are perfect as narrators of Jack and Anna, the pacing is perfect and their voices a delight to listen to. The voice modulation of the killer is perfectly creepy and sent chills down my spine! Another fabulous story by Alice Feeney!

After last year’s disaster that was I Know Who You Are, I was a bit hesitant to choose this one to listen & review for NetGalley. I’m so glad I went for it though because this one blew my mind 🤯 I suggest going into this story as blind as possible. There are 3 POV’s : His, Hers, and the Killer’s (audio for the killer adds to the story with the use of a voice scrambler app in order to hide their identity). It’s so cleverly plotted from beginning to end. Narration is performed by heavy hitters, Richard Armitage & Stephanie Racine and they completely nailed it 🙌🏼 I cannot recommend this audiobook enough! It’s such a great example of how the audio format can elevate your experience with a particular story. Five star performance + five star story = Five overall stars for 𝐇𝐢𝐬 & 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐬 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a WILD audiobook to listen to and I have to give the producers credit for figuring out how to record it!
First, the plot. It is FABULOUS. A twisty, engrossing thriller with surprises at every turn! As we all know, multiple narrator, unlikable character, “unreliable narrator” thrillers are all the rage right now. I’ve read so many of them lately but few have been executed as well as His & Hers.

This deliciously twisty thriller is narrated partly by heroine Anna, a TV anchor/reporter, partly by her ex-husband Jack, a detective, and partly by the killer, who may or may not be one of these two characters. I absolutely loved the way the plot unfolded and revealed new characters. In the beginning you did not know who the characters were or their relationships to eachother, and the eventual reveals of these things were surprising and fun. The plot is so well-executed and fun to read. I enjoyed every moment of this book.

Like many thrillers of this type, a couple of the twists stretch credulity a little, but Feeney somehow manages to pull them off with carefully laid clues and great explanations of motive. You will be guessing whodunit throughout the book and the eventual answer and motive will be surprising and satisfying. Alice Feeney is masterful at manipulating the reader’s emotions, and I am here for it!

So the interesting thing about this audiobook is that it is narrated by "Him," "Her," and the killer. You don't know who the killer is until the end. So how does one execute this in an audiobook when a voice might give the killer away? This book came up with the innovative idea of giving the killer an electronically altered voice, like the electronic voice a kidnapper would use with a machine when making a ransom call. While this is a killer idea in theory, in practice I found the garbled voice a little jarring and tough to listen to. My brain struggled at times to comprehend the words and the electronic tone was a little bit like nails on a chalkboard to me. So regrettably though it was a good idea, it somewhat reduced my enjoyment of the audiobook. I am not really sure how else they could have done it. Maybe a totally different narrator? But then you would know the gender. I guess this will be a tough hurdle for future audiobooks with unrevealed murderers as narrators.

Having had the chance to read the physical book as well as listen to the audio, I have to say that I liked the reading experience better for this reason. I found the interruptions of the deep electronic voice a little jarring . Also, *minor audiobook spoiler* <spoiler> once the killer was revealed at the end, I think it would have been cooler to have the killer speaking in their own voice in the last chapter while they explained it all, rather than the electronic voice again.</spoiler> But, I still totally loved this book and its great plot and characters. Highly recommended as one of the better thrillers this year!

I was over the moon excited for the new audiobooks on NetGalley and this audiobook. I love Richard Armitage but sadly I was unable to listen to it because it would not download for me.

I enjoyed the audiobook. I liked having different voices for each character. As for the story, I really enjoyed it. It kept me guessing who it was.

Each chapter was literally like peeling back an onion (hate that analogy, but it's true). You dive deeper into a story with so many layers and depths that I didn't see coming.⁣⁣

If you were on the fence about 𝙸 𝙺𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚆𝚑𝚘 𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝙰𝚛𝚎, give Alice a chance to redeem herself with this one. Because it's awesome! Two narrators, him and her (𝘺𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺?) made the story that much more intriguing!! ⁣⁣And I loved the dual narrators. LOVED THEM. Thank you for having a speed faster than 2.0 BTW. They were both amazing and really made the story. (I loved the distorted voice as well because it gave the perfect illusion of not knowing if it was a man or woman. GENIUS!)

I think I loved this so much because I was waiting for this kind of story to be told. It was JUST SO GOOD. Read this 100%!!!!

I have seen this one around social media and not only did the cover catch my eye, the blurb did as well. I was thrilled at the opportunity to listen and review the audio! I will start this review about the audio itself: the biggest issue I had was with the app in which I listened to the book. It was awful. It kept shutting off every 30-60 seconds for no reason. I was not able to listen unless my phone was unlocked. You can imagine my frustration at that. Thankfully, the narrators were spot on and brought this story to life. I felt they portrayed the characters perfectly. They felt believable and like reliable narrators.

The story itself was a little rocky at times. I did enjoy it, don't get me wrong, but I had some problems. I do enjoy a nice balance of character and plot driven books. This one... well... the characters, Anna and Jack, were dreadful They are rather horrible people apart and they are even worse together. They were certainly fleshed out and woefully flawed, but there were times they almost overtook the plot of the story. They were self-centered to the point where I wanted to skip ahead to see if the author had moved on from them. I didn't want to read an entire thriller about two nasty people who are rather rude no matter what. The further I got into the story, I did get the backstory of why they were the way they were, but it didn't give them a pass for being despicable.

I know it sounds like I truly did not like this book but I did enjoy most of it. The character personalities were not my cup of tea but I stayed with this one for the actual plot, which was good. The ending did not blow me away but it was entertaining enough to hold my attention.

She has worked really hard for this, putting work before her friends and family, and her ex-husbandDCI Jack Harper. But when someone threatens to take this all away from her she is ready to do anything to keep it. There’s a body uncovered in Blackdown, where Anna grew up and the victim turns out to be one of her schoolmate, she starts covering this story and she is very soon at the heart of it as the body count keeps increasing.
As it turns out Anna’s ex-husband DCI Jack Harper also knew the 1st victim and had been in touch with her hours before her death, but he does not reveal this to anyone including his ex-wife.
Someone is not telling the whole truth and this book alternates between the points of view of Jack’s and Anna’s (His & Hers).
A total 4-star for the awesome ending in this book, fully totally loved it!

I’ve read all of Alice Feeny's books and I have to say that His & Hers is my favorite, by far! It's a mind blowing psychological thriller, with twists that will keep you guessing throughout and an ending that took me completely by surprise. Definitely one of my top reads so far this year!
