I’ve read all of Alice Feeny's books and I have to say that His & Hers is my favorite, by far! It's a mind blowing psychological thriller, with twists that will keep you guessing throughout and an ending that took me completely by surprise. Definitely one of my top reads so far this year!

I always get super excited about the newest Alice Feeney thriller, but since I can’t ever seem to get my hands on an ARC, I often order the UK edition since it’s released first. About a week after my copy arrived from across the pond, I almost screamed when I saw it was available as a July ALC! Literally downloaded and started listening immediately. I didn’t shut it off until I had finished.

If you also plan to listen to the audio, let me just say: Don’t be fooled by the opening narration! At first I thought the quality was absolute garbage and I didn’t understand how they expected anyone to listen to the whole thing, BUT it quickly becomes apparent that the way the narrator sounds is intentional and it’s only for small bits, so I got over it very quickly.

HIS & HERS is like the rated R, adult version of Pretty Little Liars that I never knew I needed in my life. Alice Feeney writes some of the most twisted and deranged fiction I’ve ever read, and I am all for it!

Make no mistake, this is by no means a realistic plot, but it was so much fun that that never mattered to me. I was just along for the ride, and what a ride it was!

Towards the end I was thinking it would probably be a 4-4.5 star read for me, but then there was one more completely unexpected twists that blew me away! All the stars! And I’m ready for her next book please.

First thank you to Flatiron Books for the advanced reading and listening copies. This is the second work that I’ve read by Alice Feeney and each time I’ve been left feeling totally shook.

This is told through 3 alternating perspectives. You have Anna, Jack, and the killer. I highly recommend this on audio for the simple fact that there are 3 different narrators users.

The voices and pacing were perfect for this story. I loved how the third voice was the “killer” so you were not sure who it was because it was a disguised voice.

Some trigger warnings: rape, animal cruelty, death of a child, domestic abuse, murder, suicide depictions (Alice Feeney tends to write some dark, twisted material).

I had this figured out about 50% of the way through. Then that changed and by 70% I had it figured out again. Then that changed and by 92% I had it figured out. Then that changed and I didn’t know the truth until 97% of the way when it had to literally spell it out.

Full of vivid, twisted, gory descriptions, we are taken though the lives of Anna and her BBC job. We see Detective Jack and his partner Priya. Alternating between present day, childhood, marriage, children, you will see the lives of these characters and how this whole story is twisted together after a woman that both Anna and Jack know has been murdered. The real question is who did it and why?

I couldn't listen to this one can horny figure out how to listen,didn't have problems with the other one!

OVERALL- an engaging and enjoyable thriller with lots of twist and turns!
REVIEW- this was a very good, in-depth and complicated thriller, it kept you on your toes throughout and cast the net of suspicion very wide. I enjoyed it being narrated from his and hers point of view - you were never quite sure who’s version of events to believe. I thought the main characters Anna and Jack were very believable and very engaging to me the reader and although they did bad things you were still rooting for them which is a complement to the author. The locations were all well set and believable and had just the right amount of everything. The story, although a very typical thriller theme, I still thought it was done very cleverly and worked well especially the twisty ending.
But it wasn’t without its faults which is why it didn’t reach 5⭐️ for me. While initially I enjoyed the philosophical approach to the narration from both his and hers point of view by three quarters of the way through it got a bit tedious and made the book drag a little and I felt a bit like some of the scenes were just book bulking and it was time to get on with it. It took a bit of a pull to get me back into it but by the last chapters I did and they were excellent so just a minor little niggle to an overall excellent read.

This novel is just s.o. i.n.s.a.n.e.l.y. t.w.i.s.t.e.d. I listened to it in a day. The narration is excellent while the plot gave me chills and thrills and a total shock at the reveal.

The title "His & Hers" is a dark twist on the cute lovey-dovey inscriptions, but in this case, those are the points of view in a dark murder mystery in which he & she are actually involved in the case.

First, we have Anna Andrews: a very ambitious career woman, a divorcee with lots of drama and an alcoholic. Anna is flawed, but also very likable. She sacrificed everything to climb the ladder to get her dream job as a BBC reporter, but when the woman who has this job before returns, Anna's position becomes less than secure. So, she is compelled to take a risky murder investigation in a town she grew up in... and buried some secrets.

Second, we meet Jack Harper: another ambitious character with domestic life drama and a tendency to ruin everything in his love life. Jack is the investigator in the same murder case, except... he knows the victim. Intimately. He was actually having sex with her earlier that night. It would be smart to leave his case but... he can't.

And finally, the third point of view is the killer's. Sounds like an easy way to give away the mystery, but Feeney did a great job keeping the killer's anonymity till the end. Not only that, but she also kept dropping conflicting hints at VARIOUS characters, for instance repeated phrases, making it impossible for me to put down this audiobook.

Wow, I think Alice Feeney has written her best book yet. A story of love and betrayal and revenge is told from two viewpoints his and hers. Tension begins to build from the first page and it doesn't let up until the very end. While the story is told from two viewpoints we also have a third person the narrator, who is obviously the killer. Every time the narrator starts talking about why someone had to die I am convinced I know who the killer is, until the next time when I'm sure it's someone else. I really was not surprised at the ending until I found out it wasn't really the end. This is one book that you won't want to miss.

Holy (insert your choice of expletive here) Moly. This book is literally the definition of the mind blown emoji. This is by far the BEST thriller I have read in 2020. I cannot even explain my thoughts right now because I’m still a little mind blown.

The twists, the turns, the red herrings. All of it was amazing. I usually am pretty good at guessing who did it and why. This book had me guessing until the very end, and I still didn’t guess correctly. Every chapter I felt like a detective trying to solve the case, and I was left with such a satisfying and beautifully executed ending. I went and re-read a few chapters knowing the spoilers that I do now,
and it made the book THAT much better.

At first, I didn’t enjoy the dual perspective chapters. I felt like it was almost repetitive. But, a few chapters in, it made me wonder how the other person was going to react in their chapter and I looked forward to it. It was a clever chapter writing style that paid off in my opinion. It kept me engrossed and helped with character development.

I will say, the journal entries voice distortion was probably the hardest to listen to. I know it’s done intentionally, but it was like nails on a chalkboard to get through those entires. Though, they were the most important.

His & Hers is by far, my favorite thriller of the year. I’ve read many thrillers, but this one takes the cake. Thank you Flatiron Books & NetGalley for the ARC. I will be purchasing this hardback when it comes out as this is a book everyone needs on their bookshelf.
