The Good Samaritan by Melynda Price was listed as a Mystery/thriller, but the romance is so prominent it should definitely be added in the description. I wasn't prepared for all of the descriptive sex scenes (not that I am complaining). The thriller part was excellent, serial killer on the loose has his sights set on the main character Emma, an ER doctor who "befriends" one of her especially hot patients who happens to be a detective. Sawyer(the detective) takes on the role of protector to Emma and he tries to solve the case. Sawyer's dog, Officer Samson, also plays in important role in the story protecting Emma even from Sawyer. Overall the story line was believable, riveting and sexy. This would make a great movie!

There seems to be a serial killer targeting women who work at the hospital. Emma Rhodes is a resident at that hospital in the emergency room. One night Detective Sawyer Gerrard and his K9 are rushed in with gunshot wounds and Emma gets the short straw and has to patch up the dog. Detective Gerrard is grateful for saving his dog’s life and finds himself attracted to Emma. Sparks fly between Gerrard and Emma while Gerrard tries to protect her from a killer. Sexy and fast paced.

Thank you to the publisher for the ARC given through NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.

This was a very intriguing story. It had me guessing at who was the culprit. I enjoyed the investigation process and I especially liked the chemistry between Sawyer and Emma.
Emma has been escaping a heartbreaking past that after eight years it has finally caught up to her. Someone has been murdering women who have a similar look to hers. Sawyer is the detective assigned to the case of catching the elusive "The Good Samaritan". His investigation brings him close to Emma, which at the same time creates a conflict of interest in his investigation.
This book had a good balance of suspense, thrilling action scenes and hot chemistry!

Big winner from Melynda Price. The story was intense with a few awesome characters and few that kind of got on your nerves. Overall it was a gripping story that kept me entertained. I do hope to see some of the side characters get future stories!

Definitely in the mood for a stalker-thriller. Poor Emma has been hiding from a stalker, she’s keeping all her fears bottled up but she’s resilient and strong. Sawyer is on the case, with Sam his K9 partner, of the Good Samaritan serial killer. Pay attention to the clues and you might figure it out. Plenty of twists and some sneaky information to throw us off. Very intriguing storyline with strong multifaceted characters, and even more thrilling mystery. I received my copy through Netgalley, review provided voluntarily.

There was more romance than I expected (I thought it was going to focus more on the serial killer and solving that) but it made it more enjoyable to read. I think it was pretty easy to figure out who the killer was based on the small pool of potential suspects. I'd like to see a book that features Ian (possibly with Molly as the love interest?) and maybe one with Sawyer's brother. This was probably 3.5 stars for me, rounded up to 4 because Sam was the best character. ;)

Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to give The Good Samaritan 4 stars but I just can't. The problem is, I liked this story for most of it, but a few things began to drag it down for me. One is the incessant guilt these two characters constantly feel about everything. Especially Sawyer. It gets boring. Emma I started out liking a lot but somewhere along the way that was disintegrating. It hit a pitch when I began to feel that she was incredibly narcissistic. Sawyer is angry at her for not telling him the truth and because of this women are dead. Instead of owning that, she gets angry at him. From there on I began to dislike her, despite all she'd gone through and would go through. At one point toward the end where she's held captive--which was predictable because she's constantly doing things to put herself in jeopardy—she thinks that during her medical training she should have paid more attention in the psych class and all I could think was: No kidding! When the attacker accuses her of giving herself to the detective, she thinks: could she give up her body to the attacker to save her life? No, she belongs to Sawyer. Some things are worse than death. Uh, hello, Emma, welcome to reality. In this situation you should have said Sawyer raped you, winning over the attacker. Not the time for a moral stance, time to buy yourself time. But no, by now you're an idiot to me. Her attempt at psychology? Out of the blue, wondering if the attacker had been Catholic because of his desire for a virgin. Uh, most religions are into virginity and that leap felt incredibly huge. Between her never, apparently, reading a newspaper or a novel or watching a movie about a woman being kidnapped by a maniac, and Sawyer being guilt-ridden for things he couldn't possibly be responsible for as well as constantly losing his focus on the case because he's so in love with Emma, this story fell apart for me. I did like the chase idea, I did like Sam the dog a lot and wondered why he stopped attacking since no one called him off. It's too bad. There are more plot holes than I've mentioned and I wish this story had ended up as good as it began. The eroticism was nice. More minor characters were good. I ended up thinking about the future, and what type of marriage the two protagonists could have when they feel guilty about every single thing.

I will post a review on Amazon and on Goodreads, modified so as not to give away the plot. At this point 'item is not eligible for review'' (Amazon). I listed it on Goodreads and posted this modified review:

Dr. Emma Rhodes has left her past behind and finally feels safe. Attending an officer involved shooting, including his K9 partner is a little unusual, but she does what she can for the dog before sending him to the veterinarian. Meeting again the doctor that saved his K9 Samson’s life becomes a life changing experience for Detective Sawyer Gerrard. He is working one of the worst cases of his career and when it seems as Emma may be the next victim, he puts her in protective custody…his. Emma has refused to date after her earlier tragic experience and just wants to move on with her life, but Sawyer ignites feelings in her that she can’t ignore. Is Emma’s life in jeopardy? Will Sawyer be able to keep her safe and find the killer? An enormously exciting romantic suspense by Ms. Price.
