I adore books set on a Greek island and this one did not disappoint. I really liked the descriptions of Kafelonia and Anna's adventures.

I have been a fan of Sue Roberts' for a while, and her writing style is always refreshing and enjoyable. This latest book certainly did not disappoint.

I adored the entire storyline of this book, even more so as it allowed me the escapism I so desperately needed whilst in the middle of a pandemic. The characters were relatable and all had their own traits and flaws, and the way in which the entire story flowed was just marvellous.

A gorgeous, uplifting book that you simply must read!.

Within just a month, Anna has lost her father and her job.

Whilst clearing out her fathers house she finds a postcard and map with a route to the Greek island of Kefalonia marked out on it. Anna has no plans for the immediate future and before long she has the idea of driving her fathers old camper van to Greece along the route mapped out.

Anna doesn't take this road trip along though. She takes along her father's friend, Demi who originally hails from Kefalonia.

As Anna and Demi make their way from Manchester via Friance and Italy to the beautiful mediterranean island, they meet lots of characters and come to terms with where they both are in their lives.

I didn't find a great deal of character enrichment in this book. The descriptions of the countries that the women drive through are fantastic and the sights and smells really come alive. but there wasn't a lot of depth.

I really loved this incredibly summery book with its fabulous road trip from Manchester to Kefalalonia in a camper van, just Anna and Demi who is 69, used to be good friends with Anna's dad while he was alive and is Greek, but scared of flying so hasn't seen her family for many years.

Although the book is from Anna's point of view, it is Demi's story that really captured my attention. She is a fabulous character and has reasons for being nervous about her return to her home country, However given the whole Greece set bit of the book is the second half I can't really talk about it as that would be blatant spoilers.

The road trip though was really great, and good to meet other people travelling through the various places, and some friendships struck up everywhere, plus one gorgeous guy who keeps cropping up.

It's a really enjoyable story with Sue Roberts doing as I've come to expect and giving fabulous descriptions of the places visited, so that you can feel the heat, smell the food and feel like you are actually there. And Demi's story is well worth reading, its rather moving and the rest of the time she is just lovely and so friendly.

It's another entertaining story from an author I really love.

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I have read honestly and voluntarily.

Love Sue Robert’s books and this one was as good as ever. Down on her luck & mourning the loss of her father, Anna decides to take a road trip t0 Greece in her late fathers camper van. She takes her elderly neighbour Demi with her as she is native to Greece and there begins the adventure...
The characters were relatable and likeable and I loved the dynamic between Demi and Anna.. the descriptions of the journey through Europe to Greece made me feel like I was having a forbidden holiday during the lockdown.
Great for anyone who is a fan or romantic comedies. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture & the author for an ARC of this book.

Some Like it Greek is a stand-alone romance novel written by Sue Roberts. It was released on August 21st, 2020 by Bookouture. I was able to read this novel by obtaining an advance reading copy (ARC) on NetGalley.

The plot is centered around the main character Anna, who is about to embark on a road trip that is seemingly her own version of what is between a mid-life crisis and a journey of self-discovery. After several heartbreaks of her father passing away, her long-term relationship ending, and being laid off, she decides to use her severance pay to embark on the road trip to Greece. Her father visited when he was young, and always wanted to go back. Since he was unable to before passing away, Anna decides to take the journey herself. Her parent’s neighbor, Demi, decides to go with her since she is from there, to visit her family once last time before she passes away herself.

The novel has a very cute and simple plot, and while I do not divulge too much into the sole romance genre, I decided to give a few novels on NetGalley a request and try. For this novel, it was very well-developed in the beginning. Anna goes through many emotions with her layoff, struggles to accept her father’s passing which occurred before the start of the novel, and is having issues reconnecting with her sister. Her changes in personality and decision-making is very admirable. However, once she actually does embark on the trip with Demi, her growth starts to wane. I almost feel like Roberts wasn’t sure where the novel was going to go for Anna. The novel started to focus more on her friend Demi, which I was not a big fan of.

The change in focus is the main reason for my rating of simple 3 stars. The novel was ok in my opinion, but it just went into a direction that I was not expecting or particularly enjoyed. This novel is better for fans of the romance genre, since there is not much development anywhere else.

While I'm not usually a Romance/Romantic comedy reader, I am Greek and thought this would be a perfect summer read.

This was my first book by Sue Roberts, and I loved her writing format - the characters were loveable and relatable and the storyline flowed very well!

This was an especially great book to read during this pandemic quarantine because the book's journey through multiple European countries was so descriptive that I felt I was traveling along too.

I highly suggest this to anyone who is looking for a bit of sunshine and fun-filled adventure .

A book full of Greek sunshine.
This book is well written and full of beautiful descriptions of wonderful places around Europe, primarily Kefalonia, but taking in France & Italy too.
I enjoyed following Anna, who is following in her recently lost father, heading out on a road trip, driving her Dad’s camper van along a route he had planned to take himself decades after doing the same trip as a young man. Some really touching moments when Anna remembers her father while exploring the places he visited years before. Anna is accompanied on her journey by elderly neighbour Demi, who is returning home to Kefalonia for the first time since leaving as a young woman fleeing from n incredibly distressing and life threatening experience that split her from her family. Demi’s story is sensitively written and very touching, especially her reunion with family and the discovery she has hope for for many years.
Lots of wonderful descriptions of places and food, perhaps a little too much as it risks becoming a slightly unbelievable travelogue; however, the story is heartwarming and enjoyable.

If you want to experience driving to Greece without leaving your armchair, then this is the book for you! Not only that but you will also enjoy spending several virtual days in Kefalonia and read about the mouthwatering food and the lovely scenery.

I do love a book where the older generation interacts in a meaningful way with the younger, and Demi is definitely the star in the show in this story. There is a lovely heartwarming theme running through it, and also some romance.

Something for everyone, really!

In the space of a month Anna has had to deal with the death of her father and her job and she is struggling to maintain her usual optimism. Whilst clearing out her fathers bits she comes across a postcard of a beautiful sandy beach and a map with a route planned taking the traveller to Kefalonia.

With little else on the horizon Anna decides to follow the route planned by her father, in his old camper van, with her dad’s neighbour Demi in tow. Demi is originally from Greece and hasn’t seen her family in years, however as they get closer to their destination it is clear that there is more to her story that Anna first thought.

The story follows their travels and the various escapades hey have and the people they meet. There is a lot of detail about the journey and the various locations they end up in which I found distracting from the main story, at times it felt a bit like a travel book.

The story has a few twists in it which kept it interesting but at the same time did not come as much of a surprise. I felt the author gave a number of hints of what was to come that it felt a bit predictable, as if you knew where the story was going to get there.

With regard to the love interest, again I could see where it was going and what the likely outcome was going to be. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, sometimes it is nice to read something that you can see the story unfolding and know it is going to reach the happy ever after you are expecting.

The ending for me was obvious, it was very much the last seen in a romance film and I think I would have liked it to be a bit more original.

Anna finds an old postcard from Kefalonia while cleaning out her dad's house.
She'lost her dad her job and her smile.
She decides to go on adventure in the campervan her dad converted.
But she decides to not go on her own but to take Demi her father's neighbour who is in her 70's back to the place she grew up.
We follow them through Europe and to greece.
A real feel good book
Thanks NdtGalley

Yeahh another book by Sue Roberts! That's what i told myself when opening this book as I LOOOOVE Sue Robert's book, really LOVE them! And I must say I really liked this particular one "Some like it greek" but to be honest it was not as good as her previous books in my opinion. It was not as funny as usual and I found the story a bit repetitive at times. Also if you are looking for romance this might not be the good book for you although there is a romance going on it's not the main topic in this book. This story is more about family and family roots. Also I loved travelling accross Europe and Greece with this book! That was super lovely! All in all it was still a good book and I am giving it a 4 stars out of 5!!!

I loved this book, firstly for the most beautiful friendship between Anna ( main character) and Demi (fathers neighbour) and their marvellous adventures on their road trip to Greece.

Anna, shows a lust for life, having suffered a bad break up and sudden redundancy, and has the realisation life is too short, at the passing of her father.

Demi, a feisty Greece Pensioner living in Manchester, but wanting to see home before it's too late.

They set off, heading for Greece in Anna's Dad's old campervan, following in his tracks through France, Switzerland and Italy.

This book draws you in to each countries cultural and culinary delights as the girls travel along, Feeling like your traveling right along with them. Their sightseeing and on occasion mishaps, just make you love them even more.

A fabulously written escape from your day adventure that everyone needs to experience.

Anna’s perfectly normal life is in upheaval. Her father passed away unexpectedly, her relationship With her sister is strained, and she no longer has a job. What’s a girl to do?

After chatting with her father’s old neighbor Demi, Anna and Demi set off on the trip of a lifetime, visiting Greece, her father’s old stomping grounds and Demi’s homeland.

The two load up her father’s fish truck turned camper and head off on a road trip that will bring them closer than ever, and introduce both of them to what may become the loves of their life. This is such a cute, funny, road tripping story, I didn’t want it to end!

Wow this was just the book I needed to escape this summer. Started off a little slow for me but quickly got me hooked , loved the friendship between Annie and Demi very much.

If you have ever thought about a road trip from the UK through Europe to Greece then this is the book you need to pick up. The synopsis for this book gives such a wonderful idea of what you are going to get, but the author has exceeded my expectations as I journey with Anna and Demi through France, across the Alps, into Italy and onto Demi's childhood home in Greece.

The is an age gap between the women and the author pulled off their friendship with such natural ease. While Demi is older she is so full of life and energy more so than her younger friend. Anna takes advantage of voluntary redundancy in a firm she has worked in for 12 years and decides to recreate her fathers trip in his old converted fish van. Demi wants to return after too long away from her family as well as for a more personal reason.

This is just an amazing read and with such an easy flow to it. The main female characters have an easy companionship that really suits the style of the story. It is also a chance for them to get to know each other better and also make some of their own personal realisations. In essence, a story that is about family, relationships, friendships and realisations.

Then there is Dara! Yeah, a little bit of a swoon moment here! He sounds so amazing, yes there is a small romantic aspect to the story but one with doubts, what if's because after all, a holiday fling is just a holiday fling!

A gorgeous read from start to finish that has left me wanting to try numerous Greek dishes from the mouthwatering descriptions the author gives. There is an obvious affinity for this area and culture as the love of the food, people and location just oozes from the pages.

I loved this book, the story, descriptions, the characters, food and well... yeah pretty much everything about the story. It is one I would absolutely recommend.
