What a lovely book to get lost in for a few hours. I think I began reading this at just the right time because the weather had changed and become miserable, so this book was just what I needed to have some sunshine back in my life. The cover is absolutely beautiful with it's bright colours and stunning beach and I couldn't wait to get stuck in because I do enjoy a good Sue Roberts novel.

However, having said that it did take me a little while to get in to. Sometimes I'll be reading and the author would go off on a tangent and I'm wondering why it's relevant. Although, I still found myself wanting to read on and was excited about Anna and Demi's trip. The pair couldn't be more different but somehow their friendship worked in the novel and I thought they were great together.

Another great read from Sue Roberts!
After taking voluntary redunduncy from her job, Anna decides to take a road trip and take a journey to Greece, visiting places along the way and recreating the same memories her late father had made. She also took one of her parents friends with her who happens to be Greek.
A lovely story follows Anna finding her true self, with a little romance along the way.
Also another sadder story alongside this for Demi, which gives you glimpses into what it was like back when she was a lot younger .

Not your typical summer chick lit book but this made it even more enjoyable in my opinion.
Great book, and the 2nd I have read from this author.

Not being able to jump on a plane to somewhere hot and sunny, this was the next best thing! I wanted to hire a van and drive to Greece after putting this book down. I have holidayed in the Greek Islands before and this book bought bak memories of the relaxed pace of life and beautiful scenery.
I enjoyed Anna's journey and the time she took to decide what the next season in life held for her. I also enjoyed that she took Demi with her - not someone her own age. It added to the charm of the story.
This is a great read if you are stuck in a rainy England and fancy an escape.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book.

I absolutely loved it. It took me back to Kefalonia and made me wish I was in Greece with all the wonderful descriptions of the places and food/drink.

Great story and characters - pure easy to read escapism.

A wonderful summer story of a journey following the loss of a parent. Anna is made redundant a short while after losing her beloved father. When sorting through his things she finds a map planning a route he took as a young man, across Europe to Greece. Searching for direction in her life, Anna and her father's elderly friend Demi, embark on the same journey in his old camper van.
Funny at times but also very emotional. There's romance and a search for closure from the wonderful Demi. It'll make you along to travel but also want to stay in your seat until the book is finished.

This is a great holiday novel, combining a road trip with some luscious settings and characters discovering the value of family. A good dollop of romance is the final ingredient of this easy read for the beach or by the pool.

Grieving the loss of her beloved father, Anna finds herself at a bit of a crossroads in her life. She has fallen out with her sister, is facing redundancy from work and has recently discovered her boyfriend Joel has been cheating on her. Whilst sorting through her father’s belongings she discovers some post cards from a road trip to Greece he took many years ago. She then finds a map showing the route he took, and it seems he planned to re-create the trip before he sadly passed away. Anna makes the brave decision to make the trip in his memory using his old camper van. Soon Anna is on the road with family friend Demi for company. Demi is originally from Greece and decides to return home to see her family who she hasn’t seen since she was a young girl.

What a delightful book this was! This is the second book by Sue Roberts I have read this summer and the second one set in Greece, my favourite book location and I loved both of them. This book opens with Anna facing redundancy and I did have a squirmy moment because that situation is tad close to home at the moment. However, I knew this book was likely to show Anna taking a chance and her life ending up better for it. It was nice to read a story that showed something good can come from redundancy.
Anna was an immediately likable character who is having a bit of a hard time and I really empathised with her. I thought she was really brave making the decision to leave her job and take some time to consider what she really wanted to do. Our other main character is Demi and I loved her too. She was 70 and such a kick butt lady who made me laugh on so may occasions. One in particular stood out to me when the ladies reached Greece and encountered some unsavoury characters. Demi and Anna also had such a fabulous relationship and dynamic between them too which was lovely to read.

I loved the fact that this book wasn’t just set in Greece. We followed Anna and Demi as they road tripped to France, Italy and the Greece. Once they arrived Demi spent time with her family whilst Anna explored various places in Kefalonia. I adore books that feature travel and road trips are a particular favourite of mine. Hubby and I love a road trip, so I always enjoy reading about them as it reminds me of our trips. The descriptions of the places the ladies visited were fantastic, I felt as if I was there experiencing the trip with them. They stayed in the Italian mountains and Anna explored areas of Kefalonia including Sami, Fiskardo and Skala. Sue’s descriptions brought the settings to life to the point that I didn’t need to look these places up as I usually would. Although, of course I did look them up afterwards, reading all of these books set in Greece keeps giving me ideas of new places to visit!

I feel like I need to take a moment to mention and appreciate the food descriptions in this book. I can only but imagine how tasty Greek food is having never visited myself, but I feel Sue captured how tasty the food in Greece is. My mouth was watering the whole time I was reading. One thing I really liked about the story was Anna hardly ever dinned alone as there were always nice families near by offering her a place to eat with them. This applied also when Demi and Anna were together. They were always making friends along the way. As I have mentioned I have never been to Greece, but my nan always told me how hospitable people in Greece are from her experiences of visiting. Every time Anna made friends with someone who invited her to eat with them. it reminded me of the scene in Shirley Valentine where Shirley is eating alone and is rescued by ‘Janette and Dougie from Manchester!’ Although everyone Anna met was so lovely. (I am sorry if no one else got that reference)

It is through meeting lots of people along the way that Anna met Dara who was traveling alone. They meet before the ladies reach Greece when he helped them out of a little bit of trouble and keep in touch through the rest of their trips. The is where a sprinkle of romance came in which of course I loved because I love a little romance! What I also liked about the two books of Sue’s that I have read is the fact that they feature romance, but it never takes over the plot. Both books centre more on women taking time for themselves, having experiences that ultimately see them grow so much.

I also really enjoyed the plot surrounding Demi, that is quite an integral part of the story. I thought Demi would be a side character, a travel companion for Anna but their stories are equally important to the plot. I don’t want to give anything away anything about Demi’s story as it was one of my favourite part’s, so I don’t want to spoil anyone. Demi was just a lovely lady and really deserved a happy ending..

Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough. The setting, description of the setting, the food, the characters, the plot, every part of it was just top notch. I was originally going to give this book 4.5 stars but as I was writing this review I realised I couldn’t think of anything I didn’t like or anything I think could have been better. It was pure sunshine on a rather rainy day on which I read it

This book is such a perfect read for the situation we all find ourselves in right now! We can get all the feels from this book, sad and emotional, fun, and laughter, friendship, adventure and love! While most of us can’t get away for those much needed and desired holidays we can sit back, enjoy the adventure, the beauty and the culture in this book!

So Anna has had a truely horrendous time when her life is turned upside down by the numerous awful events which quickly take place in her life! One of those events being the death of her dearest father!

When Anna is packing her fathers belongings she comes across some photos and post cards of a trip he took when he was young to a beautiful Greek Island called Kefalonia. When Anna realises her father was planning a road trip back to Kefalonia, between that and the photos, she is inspired to go on the road trip he planned herself!

She uses another of her heartbreaking events (the redundancy from her job) to fund this trip and to make it happen! However she realises that she could do with some company and who better to ask than her next door neighbour Demetria! Demetria is Greek however she has lived in England for such a long time and has never managed to bring herself to go back to her home land, so this is the perfect opportunity!

How will they get on? Will they both get what they want from their trip?

This is honestly such a lovely read, one filled with likeable and relatable characters, with a budding friendship and a lot of laughter!

It’s such a heart warming story with a beautiful romance and set in such a stunning country! This was one of my favourite things about the book, the descriptions of how beautiful the places are that they visit, the food the culture, all brought back my very own memories of a holiday to Greece and also living in the Greek half of Cyprus! The author has done an absolutely fantastic job of making you feel like you are there!…. and now I miss the Greek food even MORE!

Don’t get me wrong at times it was also emotional but it fitted perfectly and made the story even more enjoyable!

Overall this is quick, easy to read, fun story, with a little sadness, a lot of laughter and a tonne of self discovery! I’m so happy to give this book a very much deserved 4 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

A perfect summer read!

Some Like It Greek was the charming story of Anna, who after losing her father, and taking a redundancy at work, decides to take the trip to Greece that her father was planning before his passing. She takes along her father's neighbor, and friend, Demi, who hasn't been home to Greece to see her family in over 40 years. While on the trip Anna has to face what will become of her future , while Demi has to confront the past that she left behind.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I thought this was going to be just another cutesy, cookie cutter romance. I was very wrong. While, yes, Anna and Demi did meet a rather charming Irishman on their travels, the story was more about Anna coming to terms with her life, and her future and Demi dealing with seeing her family again and why she left Greece in the first place. I really loved the relationship between the two main characters. It was such an unlikely friendship, given their age gaps. I also loved how relatable the author made Anna and how much I wanted to really meet Demi. Lastly, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the book. The author made me feel like I was in Greece with them. I could smell the salt from the ocean, taste the delicious lamb stew, and feel the sand in between my toes on the white sandy beaches.

I really enjoyed this book. it was so heartwarming and lovely. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cute romance/women's fiction book.

In these troubling times we are living in, Sue Roberts’ Greek-set romantic comedies are just the tonic. In her latest novel, Some Like It Greek, she has penned another irresistible romp that will have readers laughing out loud on plenty of occasions.

Anna has always been an optimist. Her glass has always been half full and she does not believe in dwelling on the negatives and chooses to focus on the positive side of life. But even an eternal optimist like Anna is finding herself feeling rather down in the dumps lately. Having lost both her father and her job in a short space of time, poor Anna is due some good luck and when she begins to look through her father’s belongings and finds a postcard of a gorgeous sandy beach in Kefalonia, she decides to take her dad’s old camper van and with her best friend Demi heads over to Greece for some needed relaxation and restoration under bright blue skies. From Salford to Scala, Anna and Demi leave the anguish of the last few months behind and head off for a new adventure where they might just find the happiness that has been sadly missing from their lives in the past couple of weeks.

This summer looks set to be the one that will end up changing Anna’s life. With the sun shining, the sea sparkling and the scent of lemons in the air, everything is possible – including an unexpected romance that certainly puts the spring in her step and makes her feel alive for the first time in a very long while. As Anna and Demi reach their Greek destination, there are more surprises to come for the two women. As the weeks stretch ahead of them, the island paradise has never looked more alluring. But with their time in Greece coming to an end and Anna finding the thought of leaving heart-breaking, she begins to wonder whether she actually wants to bid a fond farewell to her Greek adventure….or whether this is the start of an exciting new chapter for her.

Sue Roberts’ Some Like It Greek has all the humour, wit and exotic charm which we have come to expect from her books. A fun romantic read about new beginnings, the surprising paths people tread in the most unlikely of circumstances and finding the courage to chase one’s dream that makes for perfect summertime reading. The literary equivalent of a chilled glass of wine on a hot summer’s day, Some Like It Hot is an uplifting and escapist romance that will lighten the load and lift the spirit even on the dreariest of days!

Anna is devastated by the loss of her father and when the chance of voluntary redundancy comes up at work she decides to throw caution to the wind and start living. With her dad's old camper van and his Greek 70 year old neighbour, Demi, she sets off across Europe to Kefalonia for a summer of adventure....... and maybe a bit of holiday romance thrown in!

A lovely light summer read, Demi was a great character and I love the island of Kefalonia so it was like coming home for me too. Plenty of sun, sand and fun in this book with a bit of romance and family saga, perfect for the beach

I picked up this book as the front cover and description looked like a fun, breezy summer romance.

The cover belies the main premise of the story, where our main character Anna reaches a point in her life where a perfect storm of tragedy and set backs befall her all at the same time - the loss of her father, her job and her relationship, She decides to take a road trip with her father's old friend and neighbour, to Kefalonia in Greece to relive a journey he had once taken.

It was not the funny romp I had been expecting, and unfortunately the story line, whilst having so much potential, did not grip me either. I found elements of the book very repetitive (for example, her constant musings about whether to become a hairdresser after a 12 year career at a bank), as was the constant listing of everything she ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner from the moment she set off from Manchester. It didn't really hit the spot for me, and there weren't the laugh out loud moments I was hoping for. There were also far too many moments of fabulous coincidence for it to be credible, in order for the story to wrap up into a neat bow.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. The last few books I have read have been a bit heavy so I was really looking forward to a change of pace with this one.

This book is the perfect summer escapism. Given the current climate in the world, I am not going to be going abroad this year but with this book, I don't think I need to. Sue describes such wonderful places with such detail that I felt like I was right there with Anna and Demi. I have definitely added some places to my bucket list after this book. They visit such wonderful places and eat all the food. I was quite jealous of the food!

I'm definitely yearning for a road trip through Europe after reading this. I'm also wanting another trip to Greece. I've been to a few places in Greece and its islands but I've not been to Kefalonia. I think it will have to be my next trip. I'm part greek and I love visiting. I love the food, the atmosphere and did I mention the food!

Anna and Demi are such great characters. The main character is Anna but Demi is such a character that you just have to speak about her too. For a 69-year-old she's doing very well! Anna is at a crossroads and is trying to figure out where to go with her life. I think it's something we can all relate to. There is a little romance in this book too but the main focus is Anna and Demi and their journey.

If you are in need of an escapism book full of beautiful locations as well as a little romance then this is for you.

Perfect summer read! Alice takes a girls trip to Greece in anticipation of her upcoming wedding but distance offers additional complications. A funny romantic comedy that you'll fly through. Well written and paced, the characters are fun to watch. I recommend this book for anyone that needs a distraction or a pick me up. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review.

I really enjoyed this little novel taking me away from my everyday life in a wonderful trip to Greece.

Following the story of Anna and her friend Demi traveling to Greece to find their futures was a delight. The way both women, so very different from each other find the strength to grow was enjoyable to read, Anna to find a path for her future and Demi a path back to her past. Throw in the beautiful descriptions of their travels and the amazing sites they explored and a fabulous meal and some wine and you have a fabulous feel good book!

This book really helped fill the gap caused by my holiday to Kefalonia being cancelled. Instead, I got to travel vicariously through Anna and Demi's trip. This is a lovely story with a few twists and turns along the way as Anna follows in her father's footsteps taking Greek neighbour Demi along for the ride. Beautifully told and the next best thing to being there.

As this book started – Anna finds her boyfriend is a cheat, she loses her lovely father, her relationship with her sister is distinctly wobbly, and to cap it all she’s then made redundant – I did rather wonder if this was going to be the light uplifting read I really wanted it to be. But worry not, things soon take an upturn – she finds photos of her dad’s time in Kefalonia as a young man, and a map all marked out for a planned return there. She has her redundancy money, the fish seller’s van he’d converted into a camper van is sitting on the drive – why not do the trip for him, and take some of his ashes to the island he loved? But not on her own. Her father’s neighbour Demi (now on the brink of her 70s) has long wanted to heal the relationship with her family: they live on the island, near Sami, and her fear of flying has made it impossible until now.

So off they set – a journey of discovery in many ways, as Demi has a few more deeply hidden secrets than it appears, and Anna slowly regains her confidence and self esteem in the company of a supportive (well, most of the time!) friend. It’s a very long drive from Salford – and we follow their journey across Europe to catch the ferry to Sami, stopping off along the way, meeting new friends as they do, and their own friendship deepens. I do think I might have preferred a slightly less extended journey – I just wanted to get to Kefalonia and whatever might be waiting there – but I did settle into the pace, moving from campsite to campsite, sometimes breaking the journey, and the way the story and characters developed.

There’s a romance in the book, a really gentle one that I might not have been entirely convinced by at first – but he’s a nice guy, and it does give a good shape to Anna’s story, with a little happiness and a few rather nice surprises. But perhaps the biggest surprises are in Demi’s story – a bit of unexpected drama (and a few laughs) when they first arrive, a few secrets uncovered, and some rather large issues ultimately resolved.

The Kefalonian setting is every bit as beautifully described as I wanted it to be: I’m so glad Anna takes herself off to Fiskardo, because I rather loved it there too. And the food descriptions are a mouth-watering delight – to be honest, I was already salivating from the lamb with tomatoes and onions that Demi cooked back in Salford, and things just got better and better in the run up to the feast for Demi’s birthday.

It’s a lovely story and very well told, but I might have liked just a little more tension and conflict – the problems and challenges were resolved a little more easily than I wanted them to be at times. But if you’re looking for a really heart-warming and feel good story, I think you’ll love this one – with a lovely road trip and destination thrown in, some well-drawn characters, and a few good laughs too. Definitely one for your sun lounger in the garden, should the sun come out for us again… I enjoyed it.

After reading As Greek As It Gets, I was looking forward to picking up my second Sue Roberts title, especially one that promised to be a laugh out loud romantic comedy.

While I did enjoy the book, I didn’t find it to be quite as funny as I was expecting, and for me the story was much more about friendship and family than romance. At times I felt the story seemed a bit repetitive, and often focused on all the food Anna ate during her travels than anything else.

Still an endearing quick read I enjoyed, I really enjoyed reading about the travels Anna took to find herself, and her friendship with Demi especially. 3.5 stars from me.
