It's a busy day at 3 Maple Street!

For the inquisitive readers, this book is full of fun and surprises as we have a full view of the apartment living at 3 Maple Street. With all the animal friends comings and goings, your child will notice something different each time they read. The bee flying by the window. The wolf by the front door and so much more! This will be a favorite!

A special thank you to Kids Can Press and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review

Your House, My House is a very cute children’s story. It is Little Rabbit’s birthday. Your House, My House goes through the day from getting ready for the party to going to bed. What all of the neighbors are doing throughout the day is illustrated on every page. I found this unique and really enjoyed this. The illustrations are great.

Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Your House, My House is written and illustrated by Marianne Dubuc. What I really enjoyed about this book is that there were several stories going on at once, which allows for several different experiences with a child if you choose to focus on one at a time. The main story is about Little Bunny and his birthday that you read throughout the entire book. It is cute and involves several different characters, as well as little lessons of being helpful to others, such as when he brings a sick neighbor some cake or when they help new neighbors move in some furniture. The illustrations are extremely detailed and lovely, and if you look closely, that is where you can see the other stories. They are silent in the sense that they are not included in the writing but you can still see them moving from picture to picture with some of them reminding you of well-known fairytales. If you're looking for a picture book that will encourage the young reader to pay attention to little details, then this would be a good choice for you!

Marianne Duboc does it again! This is a beautiful book about an apartment where different animal families live. Themes include family, community, and friendship. This was such a stunning book, full of fun and vivid detail. The story is sweet and simple, but there’s an entirely different and layered story happening in the illustrations.

Your House, My House doesn't have a strong story, but that's not really the point. The fun of this book is looking at the pictures and seeing the various smaller stories that are going on behind the walls of 3 Maple Street.

Little Rabbit is having a birthday. The Cat family is moving in. The Fox family is having a baby. There are some little fairy tale touches, as well, with a wolf and Little Red Riding Hood... and it looks like Goldilocks has broken into the Fox family's place!

Readers could spend quite a while poring over the illustrations and spotting little details. It's a fun book that will probably appeal to kids who enjoy seek-and-find picture books.

At first reading, I was not impressed with this story. Starting from the font being too small and plain to draw attention to the storyline being a bit all over the place - too many details, no depth, no climax, nothing unresolved to be solved.
However, the strength of this book does not lie in the story but in the illustrations. This is a beautiful picture book with many, intricate, exquisite details that children will spend hours discovering one after the other. I loved how the different types of animal families all coexist in harmony and develop loving and caring relationships. As an adult, I can also recognize the hints from the "cameo" appearances of Little Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, Goldilocks and so on. This is a very clever and well executed illustration that by containing plentiful engaging stories should keep young readers marveling.
Should these drawings be complimented by a more gripping, solid text, this would be absolutely magnificent.
The electronic format did not do justice to this - it is one of the books one must read in hard copy format.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Marianne Duboc and Kids Can Press through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book was cute in electronic form but I think it will be much better in book form, I had to keep flipping back and forth between the pages to see everything that was happening on both sides of the house. There is a lot going on in each of the illustrations and I think kids will have fun trying to follow all the different forest creatures as they move throughout the house.

Your House, My House
by Marianne Dubuc
Back of the Book: “There's no neighborhood like a Marianne Dubuc neighborhood --- this time in an apartment building! It's a special day at 3 Maple Street. It's Little Rabbit's birthday! His mother makes him his favorite breakfast. His sister has drawn him a picture. And, best of all, he's having a birthday party! His friends are invited, his father is decorating, and his mother is baking a cake. But that's not the only thing going on at 3 Maple Street today. The Cat family is moving in upstairs . . . the Fox family is having a new baby . . . Mr. Owl is trying to sleep . . . there's so much happening inside (and outside) this lively building, it's hard to keep track! This multilayered picture book from international award-winning Marianne Dubuc allows readers to peer into the homes of all the charming animal families in the building on every spread. Though there is one main story, captured in the text, there are multitudes of other stories-within-the-story, told in visual narratives. Dubuc's winsome one-of-a-kind illustrations include heaps of clever details for children to pore over, promising something new to discover with every look and encouraging visual literacy in readers and prereaders. There are terrific social studies connections here on the concepts of community, inclusiveness, and belonging.”
Impressions: This is a charming book with excellent illustrations.
Liked: I didn’t like this book, I loved it! It was such a sweet and charming book with illustrations that sparked interest from my son who is not one to sit. Although the story itself was not much of a thriller we enjoyed following the characters and their neighbors.
Disliked: The book was not a good option to read electronically as the illustrations got split up.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is a fantastic book for children with so much going on that you can make other stories from within it. It is one of those books that each time you read it you notice something different within it.

I saw many traditional book characters within this book that stories can be made from along with re-counts of these traditional tales (for example - the three little pigs and goldilocks).

The illustrations are beautiful and this book would make a beautiful addition to any children's book box.

A cross section of an apartment house, which resembles a doll house, is shown on each spread of this picture book about a young rabbit’s birthday party. Various clothes-wearing forest animals live in the building and work together to make the event special; attentive readers will see other minor subplots being played out in the book. The serviceable text is in a small paragraph on the left of each opening but doesn’t really spark; the color cartoon pencil artwork is the standout feature. The illustrations are too small and detailed for storytime presentations, and the plot isn’t very memorable, but it serves as a nice “day in the life” story. Originally published in Canada in French, this translates well.

Illustrated in a doll house style, this story gave me Richard Scarry vibes. The photos are layered and full of bustling characters while the story is sweet and simple. I thought the whole thing was charming

I can see this book being a kid- favourite in hardcopy print, with a kid spending hours looking for all the hidden storylines. My 5 years old spent a good amount of time, scrolled the pages up and down looking for all the hidden storylines that she missed first time reading it.

It reminds me of a paper dollhouse, with immense amount of details in each room, and even the glimpse of characters in the window all can be linked together.

Very cute book.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in the hopes I’d review it.

I love Marianne Dubuc's work, especially her illustrations. She loves activity and detail which engage even the youngest reader. Her style is very much like Richard Scarry's.

Number 3 Maple Street unveils a cutaway apartment building with anthropomorphized animals highlighted in each compartment. The story centres around little rabbit's birthday party and the involvement of other tenant's lives such as a Cat family moving in, Mr. Bear not feeling well and laying prostrate on his bed, and the Fox family who are about to celebrate the birth of a brand new baby kit, just to name a few.

The author has added a few familiar classic fairytale characters to the mix just to excite and grab the attention of the young readers. So much is happening simultaneously that kids will spend plenty of time looking and conversing about all that is taking place on each and every page. The book is sure to keep kids and adults entertained and bring them back again and again to discover more of Your House, My House magic. I highly recommend this book.

I love reading this book! Thank you for providing me with this wonderful work.

It's about a big animal apartments. The story is about Little Rabbit, but you can also observe what happens in others' apartments. This is a cute book, where you can also got untold stories from other animals, some revealed in Little Rabbit's event.

I am a huge fan of all of Marianne Dubuc’s picture books, so I was excited to have a glimpse at this one as well. As usual, she does not disappoint. The illustrations are whimsical and detailed and despite it being such a cute book, there are plenty of openings to begin deeper conversations with a child, such as loneliness and welcoming a new sibling.

This picture book shows cutaway details of an apartment building, inviting children to pore over the illustrations and think about the lives and activities of the different animal characters pictured within. The story is very weak, and I think that this would work better as a wordless picture book, but parents and children can always overlook the text on future reads and make up their own stories.

Just recently, my sister and I talked about how much we enjoyed books like this when we were children. We always liked making up stories about the different characters and what they were doing, and this book is a great option for fostering that kind of imaginative impulse and encouraging children to write their own stories. The apartment includes so many different characters, and so many different props and visual details, that someone could choose a new main character every time and come up with a totally different story by the end.

I read a digital copy of this book for review purposes, and I am grateful for that opportunity, but based on this experience, I would advise future readers to pursue physical copies of this book. Because the pages are full of small details and best experienced side by side, this isn't ideal for digital reading, and a child especially will get a fuller experience and find this more engrossing if they are able to read a physical copy.

As a preschool teachers, I know my students would greatly enjoy the addition of this book to our class library. Every year, we include a theme about community at our school. Finding books about homes that will interest the children has often posed a challenge. In this book, however, we get a glimpse into a multi-family home filled with adorable animals. The tale is built around the preparations for a birthday party which is a very relatable event. Every page is filled with charming illustrations and I can see that young children would enjoy chatting about what is happening within each of the animal apartments. This is great to help build oral language skills! I certainly want a copy of this book to share with my students.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.

This is a cute book about animal families that live in an apartment complex. The story is simple, and could have included more details. What really stands out for me is the illustrating. It reminds me of Richard Scary - detailed scenes on each page with lots to look at.

As a teacher, I would adopt this to use for narrative writing by having students pick one part of the apartment scene to write about.
