When you're trying to find your comfortable spot, in your car, to get a bit of sleep, the last thing you expect is, to have an older, well-to-do couple, quite obviously from much further afield, come knocking on your car window.
This is exactly what happens to down on her luck Mim.
Alone in this world, with not a job, nor a roof over her head, Mim decides to help this rather eccentric couple in their hour of need and ends up transferring her whole life from Lancashire to Devon.
Not only that, she ends up belonging.
A wonderful feel-good story with a few predictable storylines, but many love twists, and moments that make you trust humankind again.

What would you do if you were approached by an elderly, but friendly couple stranded miles from home the day before New Year's Eve? If you're Miranda Brown, or Mim, you'd offer to drive them home even though you're all in Lancashire and they live in Devon!

Bea and Bill Howard aren't like anyone Mim's ever met before but then with her family history that's not surprising. Loathed to admit she has been living in her car for the last few weeks and suspicious of everything and everyone the Howard family's openness takes some getting used to. To her surprise she finds herself surrounded by kindness in a beautiful countryside setting and her mercy trip suddenly becomes something so much more.

This is a dip into a world where there is good, bad, and nothing in-between, but sometimes reality needs a pause and this book definitely provides that. Mim is a complicated character with a good heart and the Howard's are everyone's ideal fairy godparents rolled into one. Each character in this story is either lovely or horrid, which once again stretches reality but this isn't a book with twists and turns, instead it is a very pleasurable story which requires you to do nothing other than enjoy it.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a lovely warm escape and none the worse for that.

Sadly, many of us grow up without a place or people to call home. It can leave you feeling untethered and like you are blowing unanchored in the wind. For Mim, it left her hardened and not very trusting of people based on her experience but in spite of all that she was kind to the core. That kindness led to a chance meeting of Bea and Bill Howard and an offer to drive them home that would forever change Mim's view of home. This story is about Finding Home and learning that home is truly where the heart is.
This was a sweet story about treating people the way we would want to be treated a timely reminder to us all in this sometimes unkind world.

This was a lovely story full of hope, sometimes predictable, but don't let this put you off. It was a lovely, cosy read. Would recommend.

A heart warming novel about Miranda Brown who has been dismissed from the hotel where she has worked for years bedding down to sleep in her cold car when an older couple tap on her window for help. They are due at a wedding the next day and their car has broken down. Miranda/Mim decides to help them out by driving 5 hours to take them home to their Estate where they offer her an old caravan to rest for the night as the house is full of wedding guests. Mim has never had the security of family being raised in a series of foster homes after her mother couldn’t cope. Slowly this couple with four grown up children take over and organise her life and she sees a way to repay their kindness. I will not spoil the ending but this is a perfect romantic novel by Kate Field which has lots of interesting details about the area and a range of supportive characters.

I absolutely loved this story! The characters were warm and comfortable yet still dealing with life’s foibles. This was a story of a well functioning family with a few issues and also a character who showed perseverance in the face of no family at all. The two ideas crashed into each other and made for a lovely read and an inspiration to connect with my siblings soon. Very heartwarming

An enjoyable, if somewhat predictable story about a young woman who is taken in by family and manages to turn her life around.

This is a very heartwarming read with a fantastic main character in Mim (Miranda) who is down on her luck having recently lost her job and the accommodation that came with it resulting in her living in her car whilst she figures out her next move. When she encounters Bill and Bea who have broken down in their car she doesn’t hesitate to help them out resulting in an opportunity to relocate near them and their family. I loved how Mim would help anyone out and try to find the best in a situation, she doesn’t expect anything to be handed to her and is more than willing to work hard and she never uses her past as an excuse for sympathy. The other characters are well written with good depth and overall this is a great character lead read.

A lovely easy read with a happy ending.
Following the story of Mim who hasn’t had the best start in life. A chance meeting when you helps out a stranded couple mean a new life for Mim.

A lovely read.
After finding herself jobless and h0meless, Mim finds herself agreeing to take an elderly couple home when they have car trouble. She then finds herself in the midst of a family who have her life organised before she knows it. She finds new work and ways to help the couple who are showing her the way to turn her life around. There is a real sense of community and family about the book and you feel a part of it all. She finally has a space to call her own, people who care about her if she can allow herself to believe it and a future to look forward to.
I absolutely loved all the elements of this book. The characters are all vividly drawn and come to life and the setting is blissful. I am keen to read more from Kate Field.

Kate Field writes such beautifully drawn characters that they end up living and breathing in your mind. I found myself championing Mim from page one and absolutely loved the supporting cast of characters. The dual themes of 'family' and 'home' resonated deeply and the sensitivity around poignant topics made this a must read.

This is a heart-warming story of a woman finding a new life in Devon after a chance encounter in a Lancashire lay-by. Mim (Miranda) is homeless and jobless, having to resort to sleeping in her ancient Volvo when she happens upon Bea and Bill. She helps them out and they reciprocate, although rather more generously as they are wealthy. This book is about north versus south, rich and poor, the haves and the have nots. At the end of the day though we are all human, capable of love and compassion, friendships and hard work. This book is an inventive escape from the current gloom.

This book pulls you in and takes you on an unexpected path where you're rooting for the main characters Mim the side characters Bill and Bea as well. It teaches you to appreciate what you have. there's romance too.

Finding Home by Kate Field is such a sweet and endearing novel. Miranda, Mim, has had an incredibly tough life. Brought up in foster care, now unemployed and actually living in her car, somehow Mim continues to have an optimistic view on life and hasn’t lost her kind heart. One evening she meets Bill and Bea and they request her help to drive them to their home on the coast in Devon. Without anything to hold her back, Mim agrees. She suddenly finds herself welcomed with open arms into the Howard family and their four grown children. Mim now has a place to sleep, a job and for the first time, friends. Mim’s life continues to be filled with unexpected twists and turns and Finding Home reminds us that sometimes family can be the one that you create. I was constantly impressed by Mim’s wit, strength and ability to preserve in all situations. At a time where travel is limited, spending time on the gorgeous coast in Devon was wonderful. Finding home was an enjoyable escape and will be a perfect summer read upon release in April!

Loved this book and the concept that a chance encounter can lead to a whole new way of life. I related to Mim and her wounded soul. The story made me long to be at the seaside again and to find out more about fossil hunting. The characters are well drawn and the hero, Corin very attractive on the page. I even worried about the dog! I’ve loved all of Kate Field’s books and this was no exception. More please ...

Mim believes kindness costs nothing, and as she has nowhere else to be, she offers to drive them. As she arrives into Littlemead and onto Venhallow Estate, the home of Bill, Bea and their family, Mim has no idea how her life is about to change.
A nice uplifting read about kindness, love and true family.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, Mim was a lovely person and you could easily see her enjoyment as her life turned around and her trust in people growing as her confidence grew. There was only a small negative - I felt that there was a little too much emphasis on class divide and that Mia felt she couldn't belong there. It is the first book that I have read that a character had the same name as me, so that made me smile while reading it.
