As most of dark books, this one is full of triggers and i would recommend to check them before start it.

It's a debut novel, but it's good and full of twists and characters.

The pace is a bit slow for my taste, and it took me a while to finish it, cause i kept distracting myself with other things due to this.

But if dark is your gem, you should give a try.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. I had to read this book very slowly and over long spans of time because it contains a lot of triggers. In between the triggers was a very good storyline which is what brought me back. This was a debut book and she did a wonderful job

I enjoyed this book. It was dark to begin with but did lighten up a little by the end. It was easy to read. Not 100% sure if I would recommend, I guess it would suppose on the person who I was recommending to.

I have tried since this book came out to get into it and just haven't been able to anytime I pick it up. I don't want to leave this review out there pending any longer, so I will just say what I did read was too dark for me.

The Dangerous Son is the 1st book in The Coalition series by debut author Zoe Hill and is a story of betrayal, vengeance, power and control. The story was dark and gritty and told in dual POV, with two main characters who were broken and complex, shaped by abuses in their past, and a large cast of colorful secondary characters. Spencer and Poppy were great together and you will love getting to know these characters. This author weaves a well-written and detailed plot filled with mystery, action, and nail biting twists and turns and will have you at the edge of your seat throughout. It was a dark story with an overarching storyline and will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. I enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to all lovers of dark romance.

I cannot believe this book is the author's debut novel. It was very dark and trigger worthy, but it was great. I wasnt expecting all the different triggers in this book, so I definitely don't recommend this book to just anyone. I liked the characters and the story. Some parts just felt a little slow for me at times but all in all, its still a good read.

Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A book that started out dark but ends up differently. Has Spencer Ingram a hitman following his target Poppy Montgomery. He finds himself attracted to her and wants to protect her. Two problems with that one she is a NY Police Detective, and her family runs the motorcycle club that is against the people that he works for. Meeting her he finds that she has a dark side like him and wonders if she is broken inside like he is.
This story will have some triggers for people with abuse issues, so be aware. His family especially his father is someone that you don’t want to meet along with his uncle who is behind much of his pain. Once you get past each one of their pasts you do see a story where they are dealing with their pain and are going after the person who caused it. Though a dark book, it has good characters and overall a good book. I received this book from Netgalley.com Follow us at

I can’t believe that this is Zoe Hills debut novel , I loved the story and her writing, it’s exciting as it means I have so much more to look forward to in future from a great new author. It’s literally addictive to read as you try to put every together, the characters are great and I am hoping we see some more in a future books , please ! It’s emotional and may be triggering to some as it’s dark, the author website has trigger warnings for those interested, but it’s beautiful as well as emotional and dark.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

This was technically a DNF @30%, but I skimmed to the end to see what happens. There's a lot of triggers Based on the synopsis when I requested it from Netgalley, I didn't realize the number of triggers or how dark it was. The author does have a website sharing the triggers to help readers.

I'll say the story is tragic and I felt for both characters emotionally. Obviously I can't connect with the characters because I've never experienced what they (or the author) suffered as children. It's heartbreaking and I'm glad everyone got their HEA. It might be more appropriate to say I became impatient by 30% the number of times it's shown how they're dealing with their pain now and not moving the plot along. Poppy is obviously a tough woman, but I never saw glimpses that brought me around to liking her. Although Spenser is the enforcer/hitman of the family, he seemed more beta than alpha. The ending looked satisfying, but it was going to be a long journey to get there.

At least in the ARC I received, a summary of future books spoils something about a future character so I should have been more invested in that part of the plot. The author needs to remove that if it's still in the published version.

TRIGGER WARNINGS!
This book may have triggers for certain readers. ( suicidal, rape, unhealthy coping . Ect.)

This book was sooo amazing. Usually I’m not for to broken souls. But Spenser and Poppy are amazing!! They are broken but so strong at the same time.

Both have tragic pasts. Not realizing how close of survivors they truly are. I literally could not put this book down. It was exactly the type of story I needed.

Spencer is going through life’s motions and pissing everyone off while doing it. Nobody understands him. He is used for his ruthless attitude and his ability to block everything out. He does it cause he has to. The only person he truly feels for is his twin brother and his cat. His brother will never understand. he has not had to deal with the nightmares that Spenser struggles with. He finally has revenge in his sights and wants it so bad... but then one woman tosses his life upside down. You can’t help but love his reaction to poppy!!

Poppy is a New York detective and has her eyes on a new promotion in the SVU unit. Something so close to home. She has a very troubled youth and everyone knows what man has made her struggle with so much even to this day. She try’s hard but still has trouble. She has developed a coping mechanism and it’s not the healthiest but eh it works. Her family runs a MC club and she try’s hard to keep them on the good path. She has morals and values that everyone can be proud of. Everything is working out great until the day everything fails. It’s one hit after another.

Please read this book they are soo beautifully broken and so very strong that you fall in love with them falling in love !! It’s quite the crazy ride and the unpredictable storyline literally makes you beg for more.

5 +++++ STARS

This is as sweet a love story that I've read but this book is dark*. (Read the bottom for warning).

When two childhood friends who end up going through the same thing but with very different results you can see just what a difference it makes, or not in their adult lives.

When Trigger is tasked with his next hit he has no idea it's her, but his family knows. And in order to kill his monster he will have to kill her first. Or will he?

Read to find out but know this is a dark story that doesn't stray too far into the light.

*Trigger warnings for molestation and rape.

The Dangerous Son is the story of Spenser“Trigger” Ingram and Poppy Tennyson. He is a complex man, an assassin with a traumatic past and a particular phobia. His target: Poppy. She is a 27 years old detective with a event that has marked her and a ex fiancé who does not accept they don’t have any future together. Suddenly, occurs a tragedy and Poppy has to deal with it. Then, Spenser and Poppy meet and unavoidable fall in a magnetic attraction, changing his plans.

This book contains taboos: childhood abuse, mistreatment, violence, but also a steamy romance and the understanding of two broken souls with a common past, a thriller action highly recommended.

First of all, I am in agreement with everyone else that has posted a review. For a debut novel, this is actually more than I ever expected. It definitely hits all the dark romance elements with a lot of moving pieces and players. Congrats, Zoe!

Coalition vs. MC - Who's going to win or just be in the crossfire?

It took me three tries to get past the first page. I am not sure what my mental block was there, but the pace of the story never got better. The slow pace almost killed my enthusiasm for this. You can tell there were so many twists and turns that the author had to have meticulously plotted this out. However, by the time secrets started to be unveiled, I wasn't sure if I was was just trying to finish or really enjoying the story.

It was good, but it could have been a top 5 read with more editing (the pacing and interchangeable character tones). I took a peak at the mentioned previews after I read the book, but I am not sure I am going to continue on. The end pretty much wrapped up everything for me concerning Poppy and Spenser in a nice bow. It can be read as a standalone.

I did receive a free copy , but the opinions expressed are voluntarily my own.

The dangerous Son was a dark gritty standalone romance written by Zoe Hill. Told in dual perspectives, this book was an amazing tale of two broken souls who found solace in each other.

This was the first book of this author that I have read and it was amazing. It contained everything a dark romance should have , and Spenser and Poppy are favourites now .

Here we get to meet Spenser and Poppy. Spenser has been tasked to use Poppy for information and then dispose her off. Things however become complicated when he meets her. It feels as if she is the other part of his soul. Her monsters seemed to match his perfectly.

Poppy was a broken girl , who was misjudged by everyone she met. She was living her life peacefully, when she receives a call that her brother had been killed therefore forcing her to return home. Both her Spenser had their demons. What I found best was how perfectly these two seemed to interact.

If you want a tale of two broken , misjudged souls , then this book is for you! It has triggers and contains abuse , but this is the perfect book for all the dark Romance lovers out there!

This has been one of the best little dark and twisty romances that I’ve read for a while, and a debut from a new author. This story kept my brain fully engaged while trying to sort out who was doing what and wanting to yell at the main characters for their lack of recognition of each other. I’ll definitely be watching for the next book in the series!

4.5 stars This book was so much more than i was expecting. If this is the debut novel, the author has my attention from now on because from the first page I was drawn into the never ending twists and turns of this story. I love a romantic suspense and if it’s darker and a bit steamier even better.
It’s action packed with many feelings and dark situations.

Wow.
This was a debut novel. I’m blown away actually. I love Dark Romance and suspense and Zoe has hit the nail On the head for me. Spenser and Poppy have dealt with so much. Starting when they were little...so much overcome. I’m hoping there’s more to come from these two!!

4.5 stars- THE DANGEROUS SON is the first instalment in Zoe Hill’s contemporary, adult THE COALITION dark, erotic, romance series. This is thirty-two year old, assassin Spenser ‘Trigger’ Ingram, and twenty-seven year old, police detective Poppy Tennyson’s story line.

WARNING: THE DANGEROUS SON contains scenes of graphic violence, torture and murder with reference to child sexual abuse, sex trafficking and physical assaults.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Poppy and Spenser) THE DANGEROUS SON follows Spenser Ingram as he is ordered by his superiors in the Coalition to take down Detectives Poppy Tennyson and her friend Detective Bella Archimedes in an effort to send a message to the Samaritan Soldier MC . Spenser Ingram and his family are members of the criminal organization known as the Coalition, and it is Spenser’s job to follow orders or face reprimands from the people in charge but Spenser is caught unaware when he finds himself wanting to protect his target, a target that stirs something deep within the man who believes there is no redemption for people like him.

Detective Poppy Tennyson’s family controls the Samaritan Soldier MC but the recent murder of her eldest brother Oliver forces Poppy Tennyson on a leave of absence where she will come face to face with a killer, a killer sent to destroy what’s left of her world. Poppy’s return to work finds our heroine suspended without cause, and in the ensuing aftermath Poppy’s life will spiral out of control when she is forced to face the reality of what was, and what will never be. With her best friend Bella now in the hands of the Coalition, the Tennyson family enacts a plan where someone will be sacrificed for the good of the cause. What ensues is the life and death struggle of, and the push and pull between Poppy and Spenser, and the potential fall-out as the demons from the past take back what doesn’t belong.

Spenser Ingram has suffered most of his life at the hands of a monster, yet said monster is still wreaking havoc on Spenser’s mind. Without the finality of retribution or revenge, Spenser uses his anger and his pain when the Coalition needs a man to get the job done. Like Spenser, Poppy Tennyson’s past is mired in abuse and pain. Hoping to get revenge against the man who destroyed her life, Poppy finds herself struggling with memories that have taken control.

The relationship between Poppy and Spenser is one of immediate attraction but Spenser’s appearance in Poppy’s life is not by accident but by an order to kill. Poppy knows the dark and dangerous man is a killer for hire but that doesn’t stop Poppy from crossing the line into deadly territory. The $ex scenes are dramatic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, disturbing and energetic characters including Poppy’s siblings-Oliver, Chester, Eli, Archer, Levi and sister Violet; their parents Bennett and Eloise; Poppy’s ex Sebastian, as well as Spenser’s twin Stirling, and their parents Zoran and Sophia. We are introduced to several high ranking members of the Coalition, and additional members of the Samaritan Soldier MC.

THE DANGEROUS SON is a story of betrayal, heartbreak, and abuse; secrets, lies, vengeance, power, family and control. The premise is dark, gritty and often oppressive; the characters are broken and damaged; the romance struggles in the face of monsters, demons, memories and pain.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and am providing an honest review.

From the first couple of chapters, seeing a glimpse of Spenser's childhood and how it's affecting his present, I was worried this was going to be too dark for me. But I kept going because the author wrote Spenser and Poppy in such a way that I wanted to know more about them and the relationships they had with the people in their lives. More than that, I couldn't wait to see how the author was going to bring them together.

Spenser and Poppy were both dealing with past trauma in relatively unsustainable ways. Alone, the coping mechanisms that each of them had developed weren't healthy, but together, they were like balms to each other's souls. I loved that they -- and their coping mechanisms -- fit together like puzzle pieces.

I really dug the supporting characters, as well. As far as best friends go, Bella is top notch. She was super supportive and called BS where she saw it. The layers revealed within the members of each of their families was really well done and I'm assuming it's so the author can continue the story with one of them. This is one of the few times I can say that I'm excited about other characters getting books (usually, I can take it or leave it).

<spoiler> I will say that I'm not super clear on the hostage exchange. I don't understand why Harrison didn't find it suspicious that Poppy's family would so easily exchange her for Bella. He should have suspected that something was up and been more wary. </spoiler>

One final thing: a pet peeve of mine is referencing a lot of songs in books. I don't need to know what someone is listening to every time they put in their headphones or turn on the car because 99% of the time I've never heard of that song and am highly unlikely to go look it up. If it's pivotal to the story, at least include a one-sentence overview of what it's about so that I don't have to remove myself from the story to look it up and listen to it or read the lyrics (exceptions include songs with super obvious titles and songs that are well-known classics, but even then I would prefer them referenced in moderation).

All-in-all, the storytelling is very well done. The author links to trigger warnings on her website at the beginning of the book and I highly advise taking a look because The Dangerous Son hits on quite a few dark subjects. As long as you think you can handle the sensitive subjects, I highly recommend this read!

This was very different from what I was expecting. It started out slow. I had a hard time connecting because there was so much explaining what everything was. It took a long time for Spenser and Poppy to meet. The story does unfold when secrets and lies come to the surface. I just had a hard time connecting to the book. Not a bad book, just too many components mixing together for me. I am voluntarily writing a review from an ARC.
