Quite a good book , well written but a bit of a predictable storyline. I guessed who’s done it and why . Not much more to say really

Thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for the ARC for You Let Him In by JA Andrews.

In this domestic thriller, main character Jenny has what she thought was a great marriage. But lately, her husband Michael has been working late and spending less time with her and their 3-year-old son. Jenny feels the strain of their marriage, but nothing prepares her for the news that her husband has been killed in a hit and run. She is left to pick up the pieces of her life, only to discover she didn’t know her husband as well as she thought.

I believe this story had great potential. However, I found myself predicting quite a few of the major plot points. With that said, I still really enjoyed the book and how realistic the characters felt. JA Andrews did a great job characterizing a woman’s relationship with her mother-in-law, and the grief surrounding losing a loved one.

I recommend this book for anyone looking for a character-driven novel with thriller elements.

Review: this book promised excitement and thrills but honestly fails to deliver. Michael dies pretty early on and then nothing else of any significance happens until 85% of the way through the book, by which point the reader has guessed everything already.

The initial chapters and character building was good but in the middle of the book it became predictable as to what was happening. Nonetheless, I would love to read more from the author.

This story had an interesting premise, but sadly fell short for me. Jenny and Michael are happily married when he dies in a car accident- Jenny has to deal with her grief while also realizing that Michael was keeping secrets from her. Add in his meddling parents and the stranger who found Michael as he lay dying, and that's the story.

My first concern was that there really isn't any twist here- we hear from Michael in some chapters so we know that the hasn't been straight with Jenny. Gary's intentions are pretty clear and the plot-line related to him was pretty easy to figure out, though his story did lead to some excitement towards the end.

My other concern was the repetition and focus on internal monologues throughout the book. It read slowly because the author spent so much time in the heads of the characters, and often repeating the same sentiments (and sometimes the exact same sentences) throughout. Jenny, in particular, made me weary, as we heard the same things over and over again from her about how she wasn't sure she could survive without Michael and it was so sad for his son to no longer have a dad.

All in all, I think there is an interesting premise here, and maybe with further editing, this book could turn into more of a thriller, but was not engaging to me as currently written. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really struggled with this book, and unfortunately didn't finish. I think the premise is fantastic, and there's definitely a story in here that I was intrigued about - but I struggled to get on board with how it was written.

It felt like I was reading an early draft of a book, rather than the finished thing. The author spent a lot of time saying the same thing several times, or repeating a point in the next sentence that just didn't need to be there.

I will keep an eye out for any future work though as I do think they definitely have potential to be great.

In a nutshell, Jenny Clifton, the wife of Michael Clifton seems to trust her husband so much that she let him manage the finances around the house, after all he is the accountant. He works late at night so he could get extra money to give comfort life to Jenny and their three year old son Daniel. But one night, the day when Jenny and Michael argued and Michael left the house, Michael died in a car accident. The only witness to the accident was a man named Gary who had been beside Michael at the time of the accident.

Jenny was feeling guilty about the Michael's death and soon she gets letters from the bank and credit card bills, saying the payment is overdue. Jenny thought her husband was handling the finances and why did her husband lied to her? Gary then slowly joins into the part of Jenny's circle with the interest of becoming friends with her or is their another intention?

The story was good--there was thrill in the story. Most of the story was told from the perspective of Jenny. Throughout the story, we are wondering what was Michael's secret, why did he have so much of debts and to whom was he working for actually? That kind of made the reader interested as to what Michael was really up to. The story was a bit slow paced, sometimes it was a bit boring, especially towards the middle. The characters in the book are not that likable in my opinion. The story to me was a bit predictable as I knew that this might happen in the end. However, the emotions and feelings that Jenny was going through as a wife was realistic to me and her relationship with her mother-in-law Donna was also realistic as both are struggling and competing each other as what is best for Michael's funeral and who will look after Daniel properly.

Overall, this is actually a quick read--for anyone who want to read a quick read thriller, this book is perfect

I enjoyed this book and will be looking our for more by this author. It tells the tale of Jenny & Michael and the devastation that follows Michael’s death in an accident. As the tale unfolds we discover that what Jenny thought was a perfect, happy marriage is punctured by lies. Not only is she struggling to deal with his death but she must also now come to terms with the deceit and try to understand why. It was well written, with strong characters and being written in multi-viewpoint format to gave a good insight as to the thoughts of each character. It was fast paced and I found myself rushing towards the end where we see a unexpected twist. I was given a free copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book made me so emotional. Not only did the main character suffer such a tragic loss but to then discover there was so much she didn't know about her husband. It made me sad, angry and a whole load of other emotions. I could not put it down and I was hooked.

This book had me interested by the premise, however I was quite disappointed. It fell flat and was pretty predictable. The conversations seemed forced and unnatural, it just wasn't for me unfortunately.

"Dying was never part of the plan." I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Jenny and Michael seem to have it all: an adorable little boy, well-paying jobs, and a lovely--if not slightly small--home. Unfortunately, money has been a little tight and tensions are running high. While Jenny and Michael used to never fight, they now seem to be fighting every night.
Then, the unthinkable happens and Michael is killed in a hit-and-run. Jenny is, of course, heartbroken. Fortunately, she is able to find solace in the man who held her beloved husband's hand as he passed, Gary. The two strike up a bond that she comes to rely on heavily, especially when she discovers her husband has gotten her into a world of financial trouble. But how well does she really know Gary? How much can she trust him to help?

You Let Him In is told from 4 different perspectives. I, personally, prefer that to one single perspective, so that was a plus for me. I have to be honest, though, this took me longer to read than expected. I don't feel as though I really bonded with any of the characters. In fact, I found most of them annoying. That being said, I thought that it portrayed the grief of all the characters in a natural way. All of them had different methods of grieving and ways of coping, which was very refreshing.
This novel is definitely more of a slow burn, which isn't normally my favorite. I find that You Let Him In is in the same vein as Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell. If you enjoyed those authors, I think you'll enjoy this novel!

OK, so this had me completely blown away. What a surprise this book turned out to be.
It made me stay up all night until I had finished it. and was all bleary eyed the next day.. WOW JA Andrews this was a domestic thriller and secret after secret popped up.

Jenny's life seems perfect, her husband is a good solid hard working man who provides well for his family. Her parents don't live nearby, but she has her mother in law Donna.

Michael leaves for a meeting one night for a work "thing" and never returns home. The accident turns out to be a hit and run and when the police arrive at her doorstep she knows she will never see Michael again.

She goes with Donna to identify the body and their worlds start to fall apart.
As time goes by Jenny begins to suss out Michael's secrets and begins to doubt their entire relationship together.

Secrets, twists and you don't see it coming. Well done J A Andrews. I really enjoyed every page.

Wow. Okay. I'm still trying to get over that ending... The story is told through each of the characters Michael, Jenny, Gary and Donna. From the start you could tell something wasn't right, something being hidden. I was drawn in. Intrigued. A gripping start.

Brilliantly written, I felt so sorry for the child in this story (Daniel) to go through everything he had to at such a young age. The book messes with your head making you think the worst of characters that you shouldn't and making you like the ones you shouldn't. Grr.

Garys character comes accross as caring and trying to do his best but also a little too creepy, comes on too strong. The story deals with grief, family, debt, lies, secrets, vengence and death. It's a fast paced story with a dark and twisted ending that I didn't see coming. Brutal. But least it gave us all the answers and outcome we needed.

A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy of this e-ARC in exchange for an unbiased, unpaid review.
I loved the premise of this book, and looked forward to reading it. However I felt the writing was choppy and uneven. The book seemed to bounce around the three viewpoints with problems in continuity. I read the book, and the ending of the story was satisfying, but the overall reading of the story was not.

I love thrillers, like a lot, but this wasn't much of a thriller at all to be honest. The characters and plot fell flat for me and this one unfortunately just didn't hold my interest. This book was just not for me and was Sadly a DNF as I just couldn't get in to it beyond the first few chapters. Thanks.

Sorry. Not for me. I found it too long winded and repetitive. I know other's have enjoyed it so obviously just not my type of book.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This was a brilliantly executed book about secrets, lies and grief and betrayal. Jenny looses her husband Michael and her life becomes like a domino effect - discovering one secret and lie after another. Jenny befriends the man who was there with her husband as he took his last breath but Michaels parents don't trust him and his motives.

I worked out the main plot about half way through but still enjoyed reading the book as it unfolded. I found the book well written and the story was just the right length to be carried out without it being over done or dragged out.

This is the first book by J. A. Andrews that I have read but it certainly won't be the last.
