The Obsession quickly grabs your attention and starts out as a quick read. About half way through it got a little slow for me. Overall, I liked the main premise of the book and the main characters. While I enjoyed the ending, I feel like a sequel is in order.

Wow this book was like nothing I have read (especially in YA) before, super dark yet surprising and twisty, like a huge car wreck I could not look away from. This review will be short since I don't want to spoil anything because this is a story to experience. Just know that The Obsession focuses on all kind of awful topics (murder, drug use, obsession, stalking, blackmail, mental illness, death, drug dealing...I am sure there are other issues that fit in here that I can't think of) yet somehow I was not overwhelmed by the darkness, instead I wanted to keep reading to see what terrible thing was going to pop out next. This was compelling (in a weird way, like the show YOU- can you root for a murderer?) and I am super confused about my feelings towards the book but I would love everyone to read it so we can discuss it!

When I went to post my review I saw that this is listed as book 1 of a series which I am not sure how that will work. Sure, the ending was super abrupt, but I liked the direction and the abrupt ending, it was the perfect WTF moment to leave readers on and I am not sure how a sequel could follow up on this. But that being said, I would read another book purely out of morbid fascination. This is the perfect choice for anyone who likes dark thriller books with some super messed up main characters- there are no heroes here, don't look for a HEA (well to be fair, someone gets pretty happy at the end but it is all relative at this point).

I received a copy from the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review.

This novel was a YA psychological thriller that was so VERY CREEPY!! If you have read and/or watched the series You, this is the YA version of it and SO worth the read. Prior to reading this novel I had read a novel about a serial killer, yet THIS NOVEL gave me way more of a terrified, bottom of the gut fear feeling than the previous novel!

I love that we see the story unfold from two very different points of view, Delilah and Logan. Delilah has a rough life and has not had it easy, especially since her father died in some unknown accident or something. That was never really flushed out in the story and was a bit of an annoyance, I get that it's not SUPER relevant to the story, however, the situation was hinted at quite a few times and never explained. Then we have Logan, getting over the trauma of losing his ex-girlfriend....but was she really his ex-girlfriend? From the beginning we are inside his super creepy, stalker head and it is a bit daunting at times! (Hence that INSANE creep factor that was brillant!)

In the end, while you are reading for this book it is one of those situations where, do I root for someone? Is it picking the lesser of the evils? To finally realizing these two sociopaths are a match made in heaven (or hell....) and to the last page your jaw will drop and left me in awe. This was an amazing novel to read and I REALLY enjoyed it! I am excited to see what else this author has to offer in the future!

Addictive, dark, edgy, and twisted! I loved how this book keeps you hooked and flipping through the pages to see what would happen next. First you have Logan. A teen in high school that has some dark and twisted tendencies. He becomes easily obsessed with others, and stalks them around without their knowing they are being followed, but he justifies it as him “keeping them safe”. He pledges love for a girl he suddenly meets by the name of Delilah (Dee). She looks so much like someone from his past, which he tragically lost; could this be why he is so attracted to her. Dee seems like a sweet girl, so does she deserve to be the next obsessive target of Logan’s? Dee isn’t all she appears to be either. She has her own dark and twisted secrets.

I enjoyed how parts of the story were told from Dee’s POV and others were told from Logan’s POV. It allows us as the reader to see the world through their own eyes, and helps us understand what makes them tick and what drives them to do what they do. I enjoyed the suspense around the storyline and reading what was going to happen next. You truly never know where things will tur in the book and I really enjoyed that.

A definite must read to add to your TBR!

This book is insane. It starts off crazy and doesn’t stop until the end and I throughly enjoyed it. I don’t know what that says about me. 😂 Loved the characters, the story is very fast paced and goes by way too quickly. Kind of reminds me of You only a teenage version with a badass female lead. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

OH. MY. GOD. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! I just… I don’t even know.

This was disturbingly delicious. I’m kind of questioning myself, considering how much I loved that disturbing ending. I might write a proper review one day, but I’m going through some weird emotions at the moment.

Probably one of the best YA thrillers ever! And it’s going to be a series?! I’m here for it!

A sweet little tale about a boy meeting a girl, stalking a girl, throw in some blackmail and maybe even a bit of murder. Fully the heck out of this book. It was YA, so I read through it fairly quick. Addictive story, some twists and turns and lots of fun.

A classic sort of love story... except somebody might wind up dead.

Nobody knows Delilah like Logan does. Nobody. He makes sure of it by learning everything he can through her social media and watching her through a hidden camera he has trained on her house. Some might call him a stalker. Logan prefers to be called “romantic.”

But after Logan sees Delilah killing her abusive stepfather, he realizes there’s still more about her to discover. His sweet, perfect Delilah isn’t so perfect after all.

Delilah knows she should feel guilty, but all she feels is free. She’s so over the men in her life controlling her. Except Logan saw what she did, and he won’t let her forget it.

Delilah is done being the victim. And she refuses to be a character in Logan’s twisted fantasy. If Logan won’t let her go… she’ll make him.

What a ride!!! I really enjoyed reading this! It was like 'You' for teens. If you liked 'You' this book is for you. The only complaint I have is that the ending happened too fast. It fell a little flat compared to the rest of the book.

He knows your favorite books, your favorite food, your favorite band, and he knows that you killed your mom's abusive boyfriend from watching tje footage on the hidden camera he planted outside your house.
Logan finds himself to be the most romantic, caring, and protective boyfriend there is. He will do whatever it takes to save Delilah from her mom's abusive boyfriend. He quickly learns that he no longer needs to come up with a plan to save Delilah, as she has already saved herself. Delilah feels free, safe, and secure. It's been so long since she could close her eyes and take a deep breathe without the fear of a hand thrusting towards her. That feeling is short lived once she finds out that she not only has a stalker who claims to be so deeply love with her, but that he also has a video recording of one of her darkest secrets looming over her head. Will Delilah escape Logan's blackmail or will she end up in jail for murder?
This book was amazing! I did not want to stop reading and couldn't wait to find out more. My heart was constantly pounding and I was at the edge of my seat the whole time waiting to see how this story would play out. I flew through this story! I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a great Young Adult Thriller. I am eagerly looking forward to reading more of Jesse Q. Sutanto's work!

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This book is bananas. B.A.N.A.N.A.S. 4.5 stars. Do recommend.

The story is told in two POV's; Logan, our charismatic stalker and Delilah, who is more than she seems. I went in to this one only knowing what the synopsis had told me, which is how I think it should be read, so I won't be giving too much away.

Reading this had my heart constricting from the very beginning. It is pretty unsettling to be in Logan's POV as he is justifying his stalking/love for Delilah, whom he only knows from her social media. At first it made me feel icky. The icky doesn't entirely go away, but you get distracted by what is going on in Delilah's head. In the end, I'm not sure either of them are ok.

I can NOT wait for the next book, as this one just kinda....ends! I needed an epilogue or something! Just a tiny bit of closure would have been nice. Can't want to see what happens next!

Thank you to Jesse, Q. Sutanto, Sourcebooks Fire, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for access to this arc.

I was riveted to this book. At first it felt as if Logan truly does hold all the cards. And the sick f*ck does it because he truly believes that Dee is his One and Only, his dream girl who makes the world come alive for him, and if she just accepts him, he’ll protect her and keep her safe. See, he’s doing it all for her and for the love he knows binds them together. Why won’t she stop arguing and fighting? He knows she killed Brandon and this dark side of her doesn’t scare him off so it must be true love. Right? The book also demonstrates the fact that once something is put out on the internet, it will live there forever and if you don’t put safeguards in place, anyone can see it.

As the tension and stakes increase – oh, right yes there is something else going on that Dee fears – I was madly trying to figure out what she’d do. How she was going to get herself out of this knotted tangle that would either get her sent to prison or under this delusional @sshole’s thumb forever. Well, Dee is cornered, clever, and ruthless. Remember – “Girl gets revenge.” It might take her a little while to figure out what to do and how to get free but waiting for her to emerge triumphant was worth it. B

The Obsession is a twisty tale of teenage love and obsession and very much reminded me of Caroline Kepnes’s You, which is no bad thing as we await the new Netflix episodes. High school senior Logan has had a hard time adjusting to life without former crush Sophie and his suffering and depression was easy to see with teachers, classmates and the school counsellor all witnesses to his mental health issues. But when he meets Delilah, who is the spitting image of Sophie, he becomes more like his old self again. He is deeply delusional and his grief-fuelled fixation with her is really quite terrifying. Having escaped an abusive family past, at the hands of her mother's boyfriend, Brandon, that had caused her much trauma, Delilah is looking for a fresh start but she rapidly becomes the object of creepy Logan’s affections. Before she realises he's a liar and manipulator she's flattered that the sexiest guy in school fancies HER of all people. There's no denying that the guy’s hot but his behaviour slowly descends into dangerous and chaotic territory. He researches her likes, hobbies and interests in order to become closer to her and most of his days are taken up with thinking and daydreaming about her.

He trawls her social media and even finds her address which he uses to go and sit outside her home to ”watch over her”. He calls his stalkerish behaviour ”love” exactly like Joe Goldberg in You but every aspect of his behaviour oversteps the mark. Delilah and Logan attend the same private school, Draycott Academy, in Northern California, and as his obsession takes over his life he sees Delilah kill Brandon and rather than run in the opposite direction he wants to protect her even more from the all the apparent evil in the world. Can Delilah escape Logan’s clutches or will she end up like Sophie? This is a captivating and nail-biting young adult thriller with some fantastic twists and a whole lot of tension. Told from Delilah and Logan’s perspectives, this gives us a fully rounded story with two vastly different narratives, often about the same thing, and it effortlessly draws you in. Unreliable narration is definitely part of this superbly woven story making it difficult to tell what is really going on in this perilous cat and mouse game. I loved Delilah as she's morally grey and a strong girl who doesn't need rescuing as she can look after herself. A compulsive and engrossing thriller, The Obsession is perfect for those who love campus-based thrillers, characters who are highly unstable and fans of You and One of Us is Lying.

Logan is in love with Delilah. He knows everything about her from social media and hidden cameras. He even has a video of her killing her stepfather. He will use the video to make sure she loves him back. But Delilah is done with abusive men.

This was such a fun and entertaining read. I flew through it. It’s pretty obvious reading it that it is for a young adult audience, but if you’re an adult and just looking for an entertaining read... this is it. Some moments and parts were far-fetched to me, but it was such a page turner, that was fine by me. The ending occurred pretty quickly, but was shocking and left me reeling. I’ve been reading quite a few stalker books lately, and this is a pretty exciting one.

“9:01 AM. I’d remember those exact numbers for the rest of my life- the exact time, down to the minute, when the universe lifted its slow, giant hand, reached straight through my skull and into the center of my brain, and said ‘you’ve gone through enough, Logan. Here she is. I am delivering her to you personally. She is all yours.”

Obsessed comes out 2/2.

I want to start by saying that this book was not what I expected, and I’m trying hard to write an un-biased review despite my subverted expectations.

What I expected: A novel focusing on a realistic Young Adult relationship in which one partner becomes obsessed with the other, crossing multiple boundaries until the relationship becomes toxic. I’ve been a teacher for years, and I’ve seen students locked in toxic relationships where one behaves obsessively. I was hoping that this would be a book for those students–one that would let them know that they were not alone and help them to cope.

What I got: A Young Adult version of Netflix’s You in which the female protagonist learns to fight back against her obsessive stalker.

There is inherently nothing wrong with what I got from this book. It was a fun thriller, and the ending really did shock me. However, I was left longing for what I expected if for no other reason than I wanted a book I could hand to a student who might be facing such dire circumstances.

All in all, this is a well-written, edge of your seat thriller that keeps things PG-13 enough for the kids. If what you’re looking for is a wicked revenge tale with a questionable protagonist, this book is for you!

This was so much like the Netflix series/book You. Which I LOVED because this psychological thrillers have been my go-to as an adult, but it's also something that has become very popular with my students. Love stories gone crazy wrong were something that as a teenager I remember being so intrigued by because I felt that even fictional stories would help me with what crazies are out there in the world. The obsession that Logan feels towards Delilah is much like what I see and/or hear about even in today's world. People become infatuated and then the fear ensues. One of my favorite twists in The Obsession is that Delilah is relentless, as I hope all women become when put into this position.

As a big fan of You by Caroline Kepnes, I found this book to be very similar at the beginning since Logan is currently completely obsessed with Delilah, and was previously obsessed with another girl at his high school that killed herself, Sophie. The book is told from 2 POV's - Logan and Delilah - with neither character being very well developed in my opinion.

There were also a few parts of the book that were really lacking in research as they were told and I found them hard to get past. I won't mention them here, as they give away part of the story, but it definitely took away from the character's believability.

A good, fast-paced book, but not one of my favorites.

This book starts with a bang and continues at break-neck speed until the end. This is the stalker book I've been waiting for! Finally!!

This book was so creepy!!! I loved being able to experience the creepiness from two different perspectives. From Dee's perspective, Logan was super alarming and obsessed. From Logan's perspective, he was in love and committed. I just absolutely loved the way the obsessiveness and creepiness were portrayed and laid out. A++

I think what really made this book standout for me was the fact that I was able to be in head of both characters, as I mentioned before. Being in Logan's head was so interesting. He really had something wrong with him that inhibeded him from seeing his actions as wrong and obsessive. He thought he was being protective, and kind, and giving Dee all the attention and love she needed and deserved. It would have been so easy to agree with him had I not also seen things from Dee's perspective.

Dee was also an interesting character. She's the "normal one" that has friends, a loving mom, and is working on saving for college. Seeing her development in this book was so fascinating. It made me wonder how much she was affected by Logan's actions. Was she always the way she was or was she a product of her mom's abusive bf, her dad's death, and the stalking of Logan? The intrigue of not knowing is wonderful.

Overall, I am so happy with this book! It was dark, gritty, and had the best ending!! I need more books just like this one. Please and thank you.

WHAAAAAAT?????
WHAT JUST HAPPENED, MY HEART IS POUNDING, I'M LOST FOR WORDS!
This was sickly, disturbingly delicious and I'm kind of afraid of myself, considering how passionately I loved that horrible, disturbing ending.
I might write a proper review one day. Right now, my entire being is going through some weird emotions.

Probably the best YA thriller ever.

I may be a little obsessed with stalkers. I find stories about stalkers fascinating! I cannot get enough.

The Obsession is told in a dual POV. We meet the stalker Logan who has an unhealthy obsession with Delilah.
From Delilahs POV we find out she is sick and tired of being controlled by men so she decides to take matters into her own hands. And so our story begins!

I really enjoyed this book! I would compare this to You (YA version) it kept me interested the whole time. This book made me uncomfortable in the best way. You know that feeling when you’re so horrified by a thriller but you just can’t put it down? Yeah I got that a lot with this book.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the abrupt ending but I do understand why it was done. I’m obviously gonna “patiently” wait for the second book.

I think this book can be enjoyed by everyone and not just YA lovers.

“Something was off. Something that felt big, lurking underneath us the way a giant sea creature did, writhing right below the calm surface before bursting out of the water with its jaws open.”

The Obsession is one of those books where I thought I knew how things were going to go, and then Jesse Q. Sutanto laughed at me, because things didn’t go anything like I was expecting. If someone asked me to explain The Obsession in one sentence, it would be, on the surface level it will make you question your morals, but the heart of the story is a blossoming strong young woman. This story will definitely have you questioning what is right and what is wrong, and by the end you won’t know whether you should be cheering or if you should call the fictional authorities. I mean Delilah is a character that has goals and dreams and is fighting to accomplish them, but life and men keeping hindering those plans. I could really sympathize for her not from experience, but simply from the authors words and how she made me feel for her.

I don’t want to say too much, because I think this should be read mostly blind. Read the blurb, and then dive in. The ride is much more enjoyable that way. I’ll say if you like morally gray characters, and plots that slowly unveil surprising things, then you will love this read. It’s entertaining, unexpected, and I think there are many more great reads to come from this author.
