Anti-Racism (Words of Change series) is an excellent compilation of powerful quotes from diverse people throughout history. Each quote is excellent for reflecting on your own privileges and biases and can be easily incorporated into classroom discussions (though there is explicit language in a few). I am giving it 4 stars because the formatting design of the book wasn’t as aesthetically pleasing as it could have been. According to the author a portion of the proceeds will go toward the Black Lives Fund.

I really, really enjoyed reading this collection of quotes from individuals of all backgrounds, races, genders and sexual orientations discuss the issue of racial inequality and how racism impacts people. I found myself writing down several quotes that spoke to me and proved to be impactful in the fight for equality. I also absolutely adored the mini biographies of each individual including in the book. I will absolutely be recommending this book to everyone I know. Kenrya Rankin did a fantastic job with this collection.

This book was a digestible whistlestop tour through racism, prejudice and discrimination through the voices of many marginalised people. It was a quick read, but also powerful; I think I highlighted half the quotes in the book due to the emotion they both sparked in me! I feel like this would be a good book for those starting the work of anti-racism who don't want to dive into a more complex book yet - it highlights many issues but is easy to read and understand.
I also liked the introductory chapter - in fact, I would have liked more from the author throughout the book. Perhaps this could have been done through ordering the quotes into sections and introducing each theme in the same manner as the starter chapter. However, this isn't a criticism - I wanted to hear more from the author, after all!

I think the concept of this book is good - to bring together powerful quotes about anti-racism to inspire the work and activism. The book would benefit from organization - whether organizing the quotes by topic or the person who said it. The quotes, while powerful, would benefit from clarity in grouping. I would also like to see the biographies of the person who said the quote next to the quote, not all listed in the back. Finally, I think that longer entries, or further explanation of each quote, or even a collection of essays, would be much more powerful than a collection of quotes by others. I believe this book is meant to be in print - the formatting didn't really come across in e-book format.
