10 years ago, Hannah’s husband Graham was murdered. And though originally, all the signs pointed to Hannah as the culprit (who was the only one in the home with him and their baby), another man is convicted of the crime and imprisoned.

But, dear readers, Hannah, who claimed memory loss of the night, did kill her husband. And so our story begins, 10 years later.

Hannah is living in a different town with her daughter, happily dating a new man for more than 7 years and working as a psychiatrist for the NHS. Her world gets rocked, however, when a true-crime podcast comes out, focusing on Graham’s death and the alleged proof that the wrong person is in jail for his murder.

Possession,my friends, is how a psychological thriller should be written. Dark, so many unknown variables, with an unstable main character to boot. You really think you know what’s happening and then you’re blindsided, time and time again. Bravo, Katie Lowe. 👏

What if your husband died 10 years ago and a podcast was now investigating it currently. What would you do to find out the truth? What if you were involved? This is a tingly thriller That will leave you gasping for air.

Crazy Hannah-just like her Grandmother --right? You will have to read the book, "Possession" to find out. I am happy I threw myself into this book blind.. Suffice to say it is about murder and abuse and betrayal and some hints of the supernatural I highly recommend to someone who wants to read a meaty nail biter-there are a lot of nuances you have to read carefully for that if you are skimming they will whiz right by you.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

Mind games, confusing physiological twists with inaccurate and unreliable heroine and action packed, entertaining, riveting podcast episodes. Yes, count me in! This is exactly my cup of Dirty Martini with extra green olives!

Let’s meet with Hannah Catton, who is a widow, lost her husband at a robbery which went out of control. For starting fresh and healing from her traumatic experience, she moved to small country town.

Now 10 years passed and it seems like she already has her own HEA. She is working with young adults who are suffering from eating disorders and doing a great job. She has lovely daughter, a cougar, entertaining and supporting friend/ colleague and adorable boyfriend/ soon to be fiancée! Till her past starts to threaten her future, her life was like a dream came true.

We have a challenging reading journey, my friends. This book is not any of your easy reads. It’s moving back and forth giving glimpses about the characters’ past, including the parts about Hannah’s childhood and her interactions with grandmother which were my favorite parts of the book. But most importantly going back helps us to understand who really killed her husband Aaron!

Since the beginning we think she might have involved with the crime ( at least that’s what she tells but does she tell us the truth? After repeating some lies over and over, you may start to believe in them. Side effects of incompetency to differentiate between reality and fiction!) And of course a dedicated crime podcast crew insists that she is the killer! ( By the way I’m two weeks, this is my fourth thriller book that chose true crime podcasts as subject. It seems like it’s already the most popular subject for the authors.)

During our reading journey, we’re meeting with different characters and their additional stories may also confuse our minds, so we mumble slowly “ let’s cut to the chase and give us the truth!”

You gotta be patient because all those stories are connected. Just don’t give up and get ready to do some compelling brain exercise.

Overall: I mostly enjoyed my reading and interestingly Hannah’s character was easy to resonate with. Yes, she was flawed, unreliable, mostly a liar but as you read her past, know more about her motives and actions, you start to understand her.

So I’m giving four psychologically complex, whirlwind, exhausting but still intriguing four stars!

Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this smart ARC with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

A bit dark, a lot disturbing and graphic, if like me this is something you love in books, grab now; if not walk away! Well written, chilling, thrilling, shocking, and gruesome as heck! Very well developed in character and plot! Read two books with similar underlying themes, but was able to enjoy both greatly, because they were so unique! I love how authors are taking plots that’s been done many times, and creating their own unique spin, making it fun and original to read! If you too enjoy this, I highly recommend this book, as by starting you’ll see it’s not a completely uncommon plot, but I promise the author surely makes it stand out! Lots of graphic scenes, so if not your thing, again I’m warning choose another, if it is, it’s a must read! Clear your schedule, it’s hard to put down!
Will make sure to buzz it around platforms and use low Amazon reviewer number on release date!

Sooo...how do we feel about that ending?

I feel like this book is relevant for the times, with a lot of people obsessing over true crime podcasts nowadays. I also feel like unreliable narrators have become more of a "thing". This was more like 3.5 stars, but I did round up as it held my interest.

Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I devoured this book! I loved it. It was full of twists, but they all worked together. I loved all the characters and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going on. I enjoyed the podcast portions of the story, as well as Hannah’s story. The writing made me feel off balance and unsure of reality. If I had a small nitpick, it would be that Dan was almost too wonderful and I wasn’t always sure why he would love Hannah. Thank you so much to #NetGalley, #KatieLowe and the publisher for the chance to read #Possession. One of my favourite books of the year, and I can’t wait to read more of this author’s work.

Dark. Thrilling. Chilling. This psychological thriller kept me on the edge of my seat basically the whole time, and I'm so grateful for the chance to get my mind off some difficult things happening in my life. This novel sure as heck did that.

"Possession" is about Hannah, the widow of Graham who died over a decade earlier. She continues to struggle with her loss daily and at times even hears his voice. But when a famous true crime podcast chooses Graham's death as its topic, it makes things a lot worse for Hannah: she gets endless threats from listeners who think she murdered Graham. But what really happened to the husband?..

I don't want to reveal any of the plot (there's a reason why the Publisher's note is so minimal), but it is full of unexpected twists which can become really confusing if you're not paying your full attention. This novel is meant to be a complex mystery/thriller, and I absolutely loved the seamless execution.

I highly recommend this book to people looking for a really good psychological thriller - and fans of podcasts. This part reminded me of "Conviction" by Denise Mina, which I also liked a lot.

I expected to enjoy this book, but I didn’t. I found it too full of blood and violence. I didn’t like it centered around mental illness. Without a doubt, it was too dark for my taste.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

With a captivating cover and enticing blurb, I was thrilled to be approved for this request. I haven't had a true psychological thriller in a while, and I quickly dove in.

Ten years after the murder of her husband Graham, Hannah is trying to move on with her life. She has a beautiful daughter, Evie. A good job. A best friend who supports her. A loving boyfriend-maybe-fiance. But a famous podcast is airing an episode based on Graham's murder, focusing on the premise that a man was wrongly convicted--that the real perpetrator was Hannah. Piece by piece, they pick apart Graham's case, casting doubt on Hannah and dredging up the ghosts of her past.

I really enjoyed this book.

For a well-done psychological thriller, there needs to be doubt. Suspicion. Twists. Lowe accomplishes all of these handily, with room to spare. Hannah is the epitome of unreliable narrator. You'll question her sanity, her account of events, her motivations in the present. You'll scrutinize her movements and the lies she tells. You'll also question every person she comes into contact with, and I think that's what worked best here. There's a stellar lineup of suspects, even in the peripheral sphere, and Lowe does an excellent job of keeping you guessing until the very last page.

In terms of pacing, the podcast episodes helped keep the story fast-paced and well-timed. I enjoyed the constant flip from flashback, to present, to podcast. Lowe's writing is easy and readable, and for the most part, her voices are great, particularly in the quiet moments when she's talking to Dan and Evie. The sarcasm and wit are relatable and fun, giving levity to an (at-times) heavy plot.

And speaking of plot, there is *a lot* going on. From Hannah's job to the murder itself, we encounter a plethora of issues: mental health, domestic abuse, gender roles and power imbalance, believability, murder, complicated relationships, past mistakes, family drama, friendship transitions, podcasts and guilt--and at the core, you have Hannah and the inner workings of her mind. Because of this, it was somewhat easy to confuse story lines. There are a lot of names and strands to manage, and I had to remind myself who was who more than once.

Overall, though, Possession is a twisty, haunting psychological thriller that will make you second-guess every opinion from beginning to end. I'd recommend for fans of psych thrills with unreliable narrators, strong female leads, fans of Gillian Flynn and Shari Lapena, and anyone who loves a good domestic suspense.

I was excited to read this book by its description, however if fell rather flat for me.
I flew through the first parts of it but I didn't enjoy the podcast portions at all.
I loved the main character- that's why I stuck this one out.
The book follows a wife whose husband was murdered and the true crime podcast that digs up her secrets 10 years later.
The book had some spooky elements as well which I enjoyed.

This book is out January 2021.

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for my advanced ebook copy.

This book was just OK. A standard issue thriller - If you like that sort of thing you’ll like this but there’s nothing really to recommend it beyond just the conventions of the genre for its fans.
