1950's Soho London: Rosie is the adopted daughter of an eclectic couple. But Rosie is the light if the neighbourhood'. She lives with her Aunt Maggie and Uncle Bert after her mother left Rosie when she was just months old. Rosie is now seven years old. Her aunt and uncle own a cafe and that's where all the quirky characters go.

The story is based on the authors upbringing. This is not a mystery story but a story that has some mystery. Some of the mystery surrounds Rosie., the narrator of the book. This is an enchanting tale.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, #RandomHouseUK #TransworldPublishers and the author #PipGranger for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I very much enjoyed this delightful book written from the viewpoint of the young child Rosie, whose mother, “the Perfumed Lady,” comes and goes periodically in her life and the story. Rosie is “parented” by cafe owners “Aunt Maggie and Uncle Bert,” contacts of her mother with whom she happily lives, as well as an eclectic variety of their adult friends in the Soho area of London around the post-World War II Coronation time. Among these are Paulette, at first a “tart” like Rosie’s mother; the Campaninis a large Italian family and their son Luigi; Sharky Finn the somewhat “bent” lawyer, Maltese Joe and Madame Zelda, (Clairvoyant to the Stars). This diverse community not only takes care of Rosie in a variety of ways, big and small, but also of each other. Many adventures and challenges occur, often involving the appearances of the alcoholic Perfumed Lady and her antics.

The wry observations of Rosie on school personalities and the characters surrounding her reflect the child viewpoint beautifully and were a large part of why I enjoyed the book so much. I will be looking forward to reading others in the series.

My thanks to Netgalley for an electronic copy of this book. #NotAllTartsAreApple

A very sweet story about Rosie, adopted daughter of an eclectic couple in wartime London. Not sure of who her mother is, Rosie nevertheless is the light of the neighborhood. When some of her story comes to light, various nefarious characters try to kidnap and use the little girl for their own ends. Written from Rosie's point of view, in very English style, heartwarming!

An interesting book to read because it it's told by a seven year old girl. I enjoyed reading it as the characters were all different. They were cheerful, funny and all loving to Rosie and wanted to keep her safe. I do recommend that you read this book.
