These books have been very popular in my area. This is the second book I have read from this series. If you enjoy very masculine, bossy men and stubborn women, fighting their attraction to each other, read this book. This book is another book about the phoenix sisters, and the dragon kings as they try to take down the evil high dragon king. The sisters still do not know who will be the next phoenix but with one already mated to a gold dragon king, hopes are up that maybe a new high king can be named before the evil king can take the immortality of the phoenix and rule forever.

The Blood King is the second book in the Inferno Rising Series by Abigail Owen. I was just recently introduced to Abigail Owen’s books with The Rouge King which is the first book in this series. And while I would recommend starting out with the first book in this series, it is not necessary to fully enjoy this book.

*Since this book isn’t set to be released until next month, I will be keeping my review fairly vague so I don’t give away the plot*

The Blood King follows the story of Ladon Ormarr, the King of the Blue Dragon Clan and Skylar Amon who is one of the quadruplet phoenix sisters. One of the things that I really enjoyed about this series is that it does not just revolve around only the main characters but has instead built a very in depth and detailed fantasy world to go with it.

To give you a little bit of backstory, in the Inferno Rising Series we have numerous clans of Dragon Shifters who all live under the rule of the High King. Typically whomever the Phoenix mates becomes the High King, but due to the evil dragon Pytheios all-consuming desire for power, Skylar’s father the rightful King of the While Dragons was murdered and her mother Serefina disappeared before he could try and force a mating with her. Typically, only one Phoenix is born but while in hiding Serefina gave birth to quadruplets. Pytheios, the Red Dragon king named himself the new High King and he put his supporters into power and made them the kings of the other clans.

The first book in this series The Rouge King focuses on Brand Asterot the rightful king of the Gold Dragon Clan and Kasia, the oldest of the Phoenix sister. Brand became a rouge dragon after his family was murdered in front of him and he began working with Ladon Ormarr the new King of the Blue Dragons in attempting to overthrow Pytheios from power.

The Blood King begins with Skylar attempting to save her sister Kasia after assuming she was forced into a mating with Brand. And from the very first meeting between Ladon and Skylar sparks fly. Ladon immediately attempts to claim Skylar, because he wants a Phoenix of his own to further his goals while Skylar wants nothing to do with him. But as the story progresses, we come to realize that both Skylar and Ladon are very similar, they are both alpha types, extremely stubborn, strong willed but fit together perfectly.

Skylar and Ladon’s relationship built slowly throughout the book and the chemistry between the two was out of this world. This book was so much more than just a romance its an epic fantasy world with strong supporting characters, kick ass fighting scenes and a plot that was anything but predictable.

I highly recommend this book and series for anyone who loves a good paranormal romance. Not only are the characters amazing but so is the entire story line. I absolutely can not wait for the next book to come out. I would rate it as 4.5 stars!!

**I received a copy of Blood King from Entangled Amara and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions were not solicited in any way.**

Blood King by Abigail Owen is the second book in her Inferno Rising series. I highly recommend reading the first book as it picks up right as the Rogue King ends. This is Ladon Ormarr and Skylar Amon's book and with two more sisters left I can't wait to see who gets paired with Meira and Angelika.

Skylar Amon had always protected her three sisters so when she feels Kasia needs her she goes to the Blue Clan of Dragons little does she know that she'll find her future mate King Ladon who soon admires her tenacity and of the fact she's a Phoenix helps a lot. They will have to find a traitor, take on the White and Gold clans as well as Pytheios and his followers. There are epic mid air Dragon battles and a surprise ally found in a dungeon plus who can resist the families hellhound Maul. But will it be enough?

Ladon Ormarr knows that if he can mate Skylar it will help not only the Blue Clan but the others prepare for taking in Pytheios. But convincing Skylar will be a daunting task especially since she's guarding her heart making sure that he's her true mate. When she steps up when he needs her the most will it be enough for them to finally cement their bond as mates?

I truly can't wait for the next book in the series so I give the book a 4.5 star rating.

Skylar is one of four quadruplet Phoenix sisters. She tries to rescue her sister who she thinks has been forcibly mated to a dragon shifter king. She is shocked when she finds her sister in love and joyfully mated. She is horrified when another dragon shifter king wants to mate her. Skylar is headstrong and opinionated, much like the dragon king who has caught her eye. When the shifter who killed her parents and grandparents threatens Skylar, a community effort is made to keep her safe, just as she attempts to keep the community safe. I love that Skylar is so self-sufficient and that Ladon respects that about her. I enjoyed this book and will go back and read the first in the series but, it is a standalone book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book starts off with a bang. Skylar, the “strong” sister decides to save her sister from the “terrible “ dragons that have captured her and one who had mated her. Her sneak attack on the Blood King Ladon Ormarr didn’t quite go as planned and then she finds out her sister wants to be mates to her dragon (crazy right). Now she has to rethink much of what she learned as a child about dragons as Ladon and Skylar face off and boy do sparks start to fly. Ladon was not my most favorite lead at the start seeming arrogant and overbearing, however you soon see how much what he does is for his dragons and not himself. Also he truly seems to get Skylar, seeing her true self and loving her for it. This is an enemies to lovers romance with a paranormal twist, having a lot of action and heat, lots of intrigue and magic, and an evil dragon king (Pytheios) trying to ruin everything. It is also the second book in the Inferno Rising series, about dragons and their Phoenix mates and while you don’t have to have read the previous book you will get better enjoyment. You’ll also be happy to see some familiar faces I can’t wait for book three! I received an arc copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review. 5 stars

Ooh, it would appear I’m on a roll with enemies to lovers, dragon shifter romances at the moment. I must say I’m very much feeling the supernatural vibe, and I got all the feels with these male dragon shifters and female Phoenixes as they truly lit up the skies. Ruthless alpha Ladon Ormarr is tested to his limits when feisty, stubborn and extremely sexy Skylar Amon lands in his lap. She could be the answer to all his prayers, but she’s currently giving him a headache, amongst other things. She’s just as pig headed and strong willed as he is, together they could be a force to be reckoned with, sparks definitely fly. Fab story, following the rise and fall of the dragon shifters as they fight for power amongst themselves. A sexy supernatural, action packed and completely addictive read. I am sad I missed reading the first in the series, but I’m definitely going to be reading any future books.

This is my first book by Abigail Owen. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I love paranormal stories and anything about dragons. What intrigued me about this story was the involvement of a Phoenix. I have not come across a phoenix much in my reading, so I was curious as to how the writer was going to weave a story around one. I was more than pleasantly surprised. I could not put this book down and was anxious to find out how the author was going to create the HEA for her characters. Now I need to go back and read "The Rogue King" to get the first story. I can't wait until the next in the series!

The Blood King is the second book in the Inferno Rising series but can be read as a stand-alone, that's how I read it, and it does a fantastic job of quickly recapping the other book, and you don't feel lost. This one had me from the start with Phoenixes and Dragons, fated mates, yes, please!

Ladon, the dragon Blood King, a fierce ruler, needs to secure his throne. Skylar, a rare and valuable phoenix, could be exactly what he needs to ensure the throne and give him the most precious thing in the kingdom. Skylar has no intention of sticking around or helping Ladon until she is caught up in a plot that involves bringing down the King who killed her parents, fated mates, and searching for her lost sisters.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish! All of the characters interested me, and Ladon and Skylar were perfect. This is a great fantasy romance with beautiful dragons, so clearly, I was hooked until the very end. I cannot wait to read the next book and see what happens in this world.

Booklovers who enjoy fantasy, romance, dragon boys, and adventure would like this book!

So glad to finally be back in this world of dragons! I can’t count how many times I re-read The Rogue King while waiting on this sequel!

While I must say Brand and Kasia seem to have stolen the number one spot in my heard, Skylar and Ladon did not disappoint! Dear, sweet, caring, badass Skylar. I love the view we got into her pov on the opening scene of the series. She was just such a relatable character, the love she feels for her family comes through so strongly. Seeing her journey through her emotions as they evolved over time was real and believable.

I was not the biggest fan of Ladon prior to reading this, but I may or may not now have a warm fuzzy spot for him taking up real estate in my heart. His mounting feelings for Sky, his love for his people, it was nice having a look into those sides of him.

I especially loved learning of the other sisters and getting a little peak into who’s up next! I love love loved having Kasia, Skylar AND MAUL all together. It really made the read all that more worthwhile. A nice follow up to the first book, things happen at such a different pace in this one which was refreshing, but at times made it a little hard not to compare the two. All in all enjoyed and am eagerly awaiting the next release! I will be buying a physical copy as soon as they release! Thank you to Abigail for another great book to escape into.

"Are you so blinded by hatred that you can't hear me or see what's right in front of your face? I love him."

This is the first book I've read in this series and now I'm craving for more. Dragon shifters? Check! Enemies to lovers? Check! Amazing world building? Check, check, check! The pacing was well done and I didn't find myself bored with this book at all!

I'm a sucker for romance, and this book gave me the perfect fix. You've got you alpha "you are mine" main character and a girl who is just trying to save her sister! This is not a insta-love story for those of you who aren't fans of those! Landon and Skylar have made it to my "favorite couple" book list! There was so much passion and amazing chemistry between the two of them.

Although the romance was the biggest plus for me, the plot was also amazing so interesting! The battle scenes were so detailed and well written,. it almost felt as if I was watching a movie! Beautifully done.

I'm not sure when the next book comes out, sometime next year I'm sure and I 'cant wait. I will dive into the author's other books in the mean time. I recommend everyone pic up a copy of this book when its available!

4/5 stars!

Well its been 14 months since I read book 1 (which I really liked), but sadly I don't remember much. I really do think this series is best read in order to get the whole set of the story. Abigail only slightly touched based with book 1, but the main couple from that book were immediately key players in the beginning of this book. To be honest I really didn't like Skylar at all. Its just that I'm not sure what went wrong for me that prevented me from liking it. It could be how the story moved in this one that I wasn't connecting with. Book 3 is set up to be interesting.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Who doesn’t love a good dragon tale?!

Picking up where The Rogue King left off, The Blood King was just as jam packed as it’s predecessor! Enemies to lovers, sarcasm and snappy conversations...I loved the gradual build up between Ladon and Skylar as it showcased the growth of their feelings towards one another. It also gave me time to wrap my brain around their relationship and believe they could actually work out!

The side characters also play a strong role. For starters, I’m hoping Samael gets an HEA and Mal the Hellhound deserves all the treats for his part! I think Owen has found a nice balance juggling everyone on the page, because the potential for future characters is vast..hint, hint :)

Ladon and Skylar’s story has everything I love-dragon shifters, edge of your seat battle scenes, smexy chemistry, wacky politics, and two intensely crazy, yet wonderful main leads-what’s not to love?!!

I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley/Entangled Publishing. This is my honest review.

"The one that marries the phoenix rules the dragons." except when a red dragon tries to use force.  Except not only does he kill the legitimate but ascends the throne anyway. He does maintain a constant search for the escaped phoenix mate who got away.  Nature finds a way to compensate when Serena gives birth to quadruplets, 4 possible phoenixes an unheard of phenomena
.Upon their mother's death, the four sisters have been hidden in different parts of the world to forestall a dragon finding them and mating with them. Kasia is the first to be found and mates Brand helping him ascend as the Gold dragon king. Now Skylar is up and Ladon Orr the Blue dragon king is her intended mate not that she's super happy about it. Will Ladon survive this mating or burn to a crisp?
Skylar is a feisty character who's bark is definitely worse than her bite. She challenges Ladon like he's never been challenged  plus she has no filters fearlessly facing down his personal guard. Apparently to their chagrin she was able to sneak into their cave right under their noses and "air tight security".  Ladon gets major points for treating her as an equal and having his sister as a part of his personal security team but of course the jury is out on how long Skylar will stay with Ladon
.Unlike Skylar, Ladon has been a part of a happy family and seen his parent's loving relationship first hand. He brings a rare tenderness into their relationship which is unexpected given what we've seen of his character. It might even be said that he's losing his edge especially given his struggle between the competing needs of being a king, leading his dragons to victory and keeping his mate safe.
There are some exciting moments when Skylar is captured and imprisoned in the Red king's fortress in the mountain, her escape and her skydiving exploits helping Ladon and his team fight the white dragons attacking them. The spine chilling scene deep in the mountain with the revival of the dead witch, the blood sacrifice and the adoption definitely set a stage for a future that I can't wait to read.
Even though this book can be read as a stand alone I would recommend reading these stories in order. This one ends on a cliff hanger with the next phoenix offering herself to be a potential mate, what's with that given that you know that it's the wrong ally or is it.  I'm hooked can't wait to see what comes next.

Skylar has snuck into the Lair of the Blue Dragons and is determined to rescue her sister. Trouble is Kasia doesn't want to be rescued because she's quite happy right there with Brand, her Dragon Mate .Things quickly escalate though when the somewhat reluctant King of the Blue Dragons Ladon realises that another Phoenix has fallen into his lap and this time he's prepared to risk everything to hold onto her no matter what his Clan might think.
This is a fun world that the author has created with fated Mates, Dragons, magic and of course not just one Phoenix but four ! I quite liked that we got a lot more of the evil High King and those around him as it made him much more three dimensional. The romance is incendiary as this couple truly are drawn together and whilst love isn't instant as a reader it certainly had all the feels that I desire. Characters are introduced that I sincerely hope the author reprises and its pretty clear that the next sisters book is not too far away. Romance, action and world building with great characters all fighting for a happy ending what is there not to like ?
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

The 2nd in the series and while the blurb says the books are standalone, it really would be better to have read the 1st book (which is just as good) before this one.

Skylar is a phoenix, a rare being all others pursue for their magical powers; but especially revered by the dragonshifters, as a dragon mated to a phoenix will rise to be the High King. Totally unheard though is that Skylar is one of 4 sisters born to their phoenix mother and dragonshifter father.

This story picks up where the 1st one ends. When Skylar hears that Kasia has mated a dragonshifter, she can only think that Kasia has been forced and rushes out of hiding to save her and lands quite plump in Ladon's, well lap, so to speak. Ladon whom I quite sympathized with in the 1st book, was desperate to have Kasia choose him & can't believe his luck that he gets the chance at (an unheard of) 2nd phoenix. What disconcerts him is the immediate attraction to Skylar - definitely not something he felt with Kasia.

Skylar is terribly snippy with him initially hating all dragon shifters and all that after they murdered her parents, almost to the point of being irritating, but Ladon who is a pretty remarkable character (slowly revealed as the story progresses, you really need to get this book!) slowly wins her trust. The romance is quite wonderful and is a slow burn one. Ladon has his work cut out winning Skylar over even though their chemistry is explosive from the 1st - fated mates and all that.

As in the 1st book, loads of action, suspense and a fantastic romance between two wonderful characters. Maul, the sisters' hellhound guardian/pet makes a reappearance & remains my fav character. Highly recommended & can't wait the read the next one. Meira and Samael and a hint of what's to come are introduced at the end of the book & I am dying of anticipation....

This is a hard book to put down. I was hooked on the first few pages. It's an enticing tale that hijacks your imagination and takes you on a wild ride. This author is fast becoming one of my must read authors.

Yihaa! Another story about the Amon Sisters! (If you haven't read anything of the Amon sisters yet, you could start with The Rogue King. Of course all of the Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising stories can be read as standalone, but it is much more fun of you read the rest as well!). This one is about Skylar. She is the youngest, but also the most badass of the Amon Sisters. She doesn't take crap from anyone or anything. So, high king or not: she will insult you no matter what. Her comments are hilarious and whereas Ladon thought that the unexpected arrival of Kasia's sister will help him to defend his throne, he seriously reconsiders his luck. Because Skyler certainly isn't one to hold her tongue. True to Abigail's story, this one is also full of action and suspense. And of course, some hot and steamy scenes. So, hang on to your Phoenix and enjoy the ride! Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Skylar is on the hunt for her sister. She must have been misinformed - her sister mated a DRAGON!!! After everything they've been through surely not. But when she sneaks into the Dragons hideaway in Scotland she finds the truth. Her sister is happy, in love and very, very safe with her mate!

Skylar is a fighter and not above using dirty tricks to win Ladon is the leader of the Blue clan but only because no one else stepped up. He'd happily hand off all the politics to someone else, he'd much rather fight his way to peace. But will he mate a Phoenix just to ensure peace for his people?

Sexual attraction and tension aplenty. Dragon politics and back-stabbing, enemies to lovers, dragon v phoenix. The intense action, adventure and passion are well thought out and the pace is fast and furious.

First of all, a big thank you to NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for the ARC of this title. An honest review was requested but not required.

So I admit it: I promoted this book over SEVERAL other titles in my NetGalley queue after reading the Rogue King. This was perhaps a mistake since now I am hot for the third book and of course have an EXTRA long wait.

Ladon was a really well-done character and he, as well as Skylar, benefit from having the world-building more or less established in book #1 as they have a little more space for development in this story. I really liked the nuanced aspects of kingship he had to deal with, wherein all the choices are difficult and sometimes none of them are "good" ones. Too often kings (or whatever the leaders are called in paranormal fantasy) have easy outs or power-ups or whatever other deus ex machina the author trots out. Ladon had to work for it here and I LIKED that.

Skylar was a little too brash for my personal taste but I still enjoyed her character a lot. I also liked how Ms. Owen made her storyline different from Kasia's, since a series about quadruplet sisters has plenty of potential for repetition of plot elements.

I also enjoyed the overarching plot that looks like it will span the four book series. I can guess at its resolution and I look forward to seeing if I'm right.

Happy to say this book, like its predecessor, features good writing craft all around - good plot, good characterization, enjoyable dialogue, good grammar, etc. I did spot a couple of spelling errors but this IS an ARC and I assume those will be gone by pub time.

Would recommend this (highly!) to anyone who likes good paranormal fantasy/romance. And also will be glomming as much as I can find by Ms. Owen while I wait for The Warrior King.
