Life with the Afterlife is pretty much a memoir slash advertisement for the author's shows. I have never watched an episode of Ghost Hunters, and had never heard of the show Kindred Spirits until now. I am, however, interested in reading about paranormal activity, but didn't find enough of that in this book.

The title clearly points to "Truths" the author learned through investigative experience, but so many pages are devoted to her own story. How she got into the TV business, who she became friends with, explaining how equipment works, blah blah blah. The only parts I really cared about reading happened at the end of the chapters when specific incidents were mentioned -- and even then, it was sometimes about raccoons.

Whether I'm a believer or not, this book was interesting. The author details her experiences with the supernatural in a variety of situations and locations. I've never seen her shows or attended her talks so I was unfamiliar with her. I found her information to be interesting and thought provoking, and now I want to attend one of her appearances.

I loved this! Read the whole thing in about a two hour sitting, because I couldn't put it down. The cases and things that Amy talks about were just fascinating to me, and I could have read forever. She presents them and explains things in such an easy to understand way, you almost feel like you're a ghost hunter too. I will definitely be checking out her TV show, since I hadn't seen it before.

I have loved Amy Bruni since the first episode of Ghost Hunters that she appeared on. This book was a perfect representation of who Amy really is and her agenda to do right by the ghosts she tries to help. Amy and Adam are a perfect team on tv and it shines through this book as well. Perfect for Halloween or if you are a ghost lover like me-anytime! Truly thankful to NetGalley for allowing me to read this title.

My opinion: This book captured my attention IMMEDIATELY. I enjoyed the format of weaving in paranormal research, show accounts and personal experience. In my humble opinion, it gave the book a bit more personality rather than straight research or straight personal account, which comes off to me as more "one man syndrome" vs. a respectable scientific source. To me, it made the book very warm, approachable and readable.

I have to say, personally, I enjoyed the "behind the scenes" of Ghost Hunters most. I absolutely loved the show Ghost Hunters and was obsessed with being at my television to watch it faithfully until the departure of Grant Wilson. I continued to watch it until about season 9 as I could, but really enjoyed Amy's involvement with the team as highly professional. Each year, Ghost Hunters Live achieved the same level of celebration as Chicago Bears Sofa Tailgating Sunday.

What I loved most of this book was Ms. Bruni's skepticism and criticism of the field, including some major names such as the Warrens (whom I have my own issues with) and not accepting findings as gospel. Her final chapter even addresses the topic of question everything and embrace skepticism, even from her. There was a sense of humility in that for me.

One criticism I would have for the book is that I would have enjoyed photos included in the book. Now, I was given an egalley to review, so these may be included in the published book, but I did not see them in my galley.

Amy Bruni, along with her Kindred Spirits partner Adam Berry, is one of my favorite paranormal investigators because of her compassion. In her book Life with the Afterlife, she shares her own experiences that helped shape her philosophies of the paranormal. This is extremely interesting, though many of the stories she shares are probably already known to the reader. I'd recommend this to those who are looking for a good ghostly nonfiction book.

For those addicted to reality shows featuring ghost hunting and the paranormal, this book by Amy Bruni, formerly of Ghost Hunters and now partnering with Ghost Hunter sidekick Adam Berry in the Travel Channel's Kindred Spirits, will hit the spot.

Bruni's fascination with ghosts goes back to her childhood sighting of a ghost outside her window and parents who encouraged belief in the paranormal. Her take on ghosts is that they are merely human beings who gave passed on to another plane of existence, so those interacting with them should approach them that way--no challenging their right to be where they are and no trying to move them on (because no one really know what waits for them on the other side). In fact, Bruni points out that most communication from ghosts involves the ghost asking for help--which should be attempted if at all possible.

Each chapter is devoted to a different aspect of Bruni's practice and the philosophy that she has developed over decades of researching the paranormal. Kindred Spirits viewers will recognize many of the cases she cites.

Verdict: A relatable and entertaining read.
