This is an interesting story of love rekindled. The characters are likable and determined. I really enjoyed the game, it was very amusing. The storyline was romantic, and the ending was sweet and unexpected.

I enjoyed this story with all of the characters. The two main characters were Miss Opal Jones and Peter Ravenshaw.

Miss Opal Jones and Peter Ravenshaw are childhood friends that growing up in India. But when they are in there teenager years Opal's family returns to England while Peter Ravenshaw take after his father and become a Captain in the war they have there. After years Peter Ravenshaw returned to England and see Opal Jones at a the famous Lyon's Den. Opal still has feeling for Peter and decided to find a way to get him.

This has action, little bit adventure and drama throughout. It had a few laughs and giggles to.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

The main reason I liked this book was because of Opal Jones, the heroine was childhood friends with Peter Ravenshaw in India, where he looked out for her and dug her out of some childhood scrapes, she is now out in London, and still in love with Peter. Peter on the other hand has had a terrible experience in battle where he has lost a lot of his men, he feels tired and weary and not a good match for anybody. Opal is not afraid to go after what she wants. She approached Mrs Dove-Lyon to help her, and the scene is set for Peter to ‘win’ Opal at the Lyon’s Den gambling club.

I liked to opening set in India, but I never understood why Opal fell in love with Peter. Unlike a lot of the series, this time the heroine, Opal was definitely in charge and in control of her own destiny, which was refreshing and believable.

I enjoyed it.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.

A well written, slow burn Historical romance. Peter and Opal are English children of military fathers. They lived in India and are parted when aged 16 & 19. It's now 6 years later and they meet again in London. The historical details were good, but I did feel both the dialogue and attitudes were pretty modern in flavour. Anyway, I enjoyed this story and I intend to read more from Ms Carter, 3.5 stars.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I have not read any of the books in this series so maybe I am missing something but the big deal with using the services of the Lyon's Den was just weird.

Opal decides that Peter is not going to do anything about marriage so she decides to push him into a card game to win her hand???! I just don't get it and it seemed kind of manipulative to me that she force Peter into this.

At times, I was confused as Opal would go back into the past and remember events and I didn't feel there was much notice when it went from present time to the past.

I also didn't know if a previous book tells about Amber and Miles and why he left her at the altar or is that explained in a future book?? It was kind of annoying as it was a side story but not much was explained.

I might try another book in this series to give it another chance but this was just an ok romance and HEA for me.

Sweet story. Quick read. I really liked both the leads. Peter was a brave officer, struggling with guilt over an attack. Opal is the girl who has always loved him. Imaginative story line, with some interesting characters!

Opal has known the she loved Peter since they were children, but she hasn't seen him in years as he was serving in the Army. When Opal learns that Peter is back in London, she is determined to make him hers, even if it means tricking him into trying to save her.

Peter is always loved Opal. But after his time in the army doesn't think that he deserves her. When he learns that Opal is the prize for winning a game, he knows that he will do anything to win her.

If Peter wins the game, can Opal convince him that he is the man for her?

I really enjoy this quick read. It was my first by Carter and I will definitely be back for more. I love reading stories where the H/H have know each other since childhood. They have so much history together and we often get to see the playfulness to comes from their childhood.

I am curious though about Opal's male friends. Is there a series that tells their stories? I couldn't find one, but maybe others know...

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of The Lyon Sleeps Tonight by Elizabeth Ellen Carter for the purpose of reading and reviewing it. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.

The Lyon Sleeps Tonight is a Regency romance with engaging characters and a unique plot. I enjoy stories that show the main characters as children, so this novella pulled me in right away. However, it didn’t keep me until the end. In part, because there aren’t that many scenes between the heroine and hero in the middle, so it has a sagging middle.

Opal Jones is the heroine, and while I liked her, I didn’t fall in love with her. As an adult, her character didn’t show much growth, even for a novella. I only got to know her determination to get the hero to marry her. I didn’t see much depth to her. I did a few glimpses of the fire, but just not enough to inflame my opinions of her.

Peter Ravenshaw’s character was much more interesting and had more depth. His suffering and pain emotionally and physically are strong throughout all his scenes. I enjoyed him as a hero and wanted him to find a happy ending.

The author bases romance between the hero and heroine on a childhood friendship that the heroine sees through her child’s eye. As adults, they have very little contact, so I found it difficult to believe in their love story.

If you enjoy Regency romance set in the brilliancy of London ballrooms and gaming hells, then you may like The Lyon Sleeps Tonight. I have read several other books in this series and found them more intriguing. This tie into the series seems unnecessary to me. While I didn’t love this book, other reviewers did, so with all reviews, my opinions are subjective. Happy reading!

I absolutely love the Lyon's Den stories. Opal and Peter are meant for each other. If only Peter would acknowledge it.. When Opal enters the Lyon's Den to seek help in capturing Peter the game truly begins. Peter and Opal have been friends since childhood. Now it is time for Peter to see Opal as the woman she has become.

I enjoyed this book, but the series is off kilter. This author tried to stay with the plot, but it seemed a little forced. I realized that not all the books were written by the same person. I have read all so far and this was my second favorite. I liked the storyline and it. The heroine was so in love with her childhood hero. The description of the surroundings saved this story from being insipid. They met when their fathers were stationed in India. And the descriptions were as if I was there. Then they moved to England and the descriptions were very ton related. I felt that the hero had some missed opportunities and I don't know if this is because the author was writing to keep the story a certain length, but it wasn't right that the hero kept his almost death experience from the heroine. I didnt understand that part of the book and I think it needs to be revisited. In my opinion, if the hero was willing to send an expensive gift to a woman who was not his betrothed, which was absolutely forbidden at the time, why didnt he tell her about his injuries and why he had been out of contact for so long? And for him to go home, forbid his mother from sharing that he returned was just as bad. Once he took over the estate and was making decisions and meeting with stewards and solicitors, there was no need to keep it secret. He wasn't that far away from London, based on his travelling times. So, I give this book a solid 4 stars with a recommend to read.

I really like this book series. This latest book is no exception. Peter and Opal are great characters. I love a strong minded female character. This is the first book I've read by Elizabeth Ellen Carter, but won't be the last.

"He was her Prince Charming, handsome and brave. And he would marry her one day. Opal Jones vowed that she would love Peter Ravenshaw forever."
Such were the musing of a younger girl and she never waivered her love of Peter. Now, she was desperate to have him and she looked toward her friend Rutherford. She wanted him to arrange an introduction for her at The Lyon's Den, where matches could be made.
Peter Ravenshaw saw himself in the mirror. Pale and gaunt, only twenty five but with all that had happened he felt old beyond his years. He was healing but he knew his military career was over. My heart went out to his wounded soul who felt so broken.
Could Mrs. Dove -Lyon help bring them together? Opal was counting on it but would it work? An emotion story of a young love that fought to be forever.

This is a light, fun read, but for me it was a little lacking in substance. The clever title and tagline had me expecting a lot more humour and cleverness than I got, so it might have been in part a case of inaccurate expectations. I really liked Opal's friends, and would like to see more of them, but the central relationship was less interesting, and Opal's strategy to get Peter to marry her felt a little dishonest.
I liked it, I might well pick up other books by the author, but overall I found it a bit unsatisfying.

Miss Opal Jones spent her childhood in India along with many other English children of Military officers. Her hero worship of an older boy started there.
Peter Ravenshaw has changed a lot. As an officer in the British army in India he was responsible for many lives. Unfortunately his last patrol he underestimated the enemy. That caused him to feel completely worthless.
A lovely historical romance, full of fun and interesting characters.
This book is part of a series based around a very special gaming house. Each one can be read on it's own in any order. They are all good fun.

The story of Opal and Peter’s romance has possibilities, but the Lyons Den was just silly. I found myself skimming through to get to the end.

Opal Jones receives a gift of a bracelet, fashioned into a snake, and instantaneously she thinks of Peter Ravenshaw, her childhood friend in India and her only love. Opal must return to England and Peter must take up his role in the military. Yet, several years later and Opal has still to marry and Peter is a changed man. Yet Opal is determined, that Peter will not escape her and so she seeks out Lady Dove-Lyon, the most notorious matchmaker in London, who runs The Lyon’s Den.
The background story of Peter and his friendship with Opal drew me in from the start. Peter’s story, in particular, highlights the traumas faced during battle and the scars they leave to bear. The connection between Peter and Opal is clearly evident, and when they meet again, their attraction is well described. However, I must admit that the card game played by Opal, in the Lyon’s Den, didn’t have the same intensity as the first part of the novel, and I felt myself wishing that more had transpired before the eventual ‘game’. Overall, a delightful story and I look forward to reading more from this talented writer.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This series is one of the best! Lady Dove-Lyon is the mysterious matchmaker at The Lyon's Den. Opal Jones goes to Lady Dove-Lyon to get her help in making a match with her childhood friend Peter Ravenshaw. Many years have passed since their childhood, but Opal's love has stayed constant.
Loved this story. I highly recommend it!

He was her protector and kept her safe even as a child, but with his self-esteem in tatters, Peter battles to forgive himself for the loss of his comrades, making it difficult for him to believe he is worthy of Opal. In this second chance romance, my heart goes out to the wounded warrior as he castigates himself for events over which he had no control. Whilst Peter Ravenshaw has matured, he still thinks of Opal as the free-spirited young girl, little realising that she too has grown up and is older and wiser. With little to lose, Opal calls on the services of Lady Dove-Lyon, who in turn orchestrates an unconventional contest, making Peter realise that he is once again responsible for ensuring that Opal gets out of this escapade unscathed. The story is well written with an unusual plot and interesting characters. In previous books in this series, I was not sure whether I particularly liked Lady Dove-Lyon, and whilst she exhibits a strong streak of avarice, she also knows what her clients most need and delivers the means by which their dreams can come to fruition. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

The Lyon Sleeps Tonight by Elizabeth Ellen Carter

The Lyons Den & extraordinarie Mrs. Dove-Lyon come up to scratch once again! This woman must have some amazing contacts because she seems to be able to pull off some of the most unbelievable marriage contracts! It’s to bad these computer dating services doesn’t have her panacea! lol 😂
Opal Jones knew as a young girl that Peter Ravenshaw was destined to be the only man who she wanted for her husband! Even as a debutante no longer and on the cusp of spinsterhood at the ripe old age of 22, I wonder what society would have called my daughter at 32? Well, Peter returned from war a changed man, but what man doesn’t? My husband and son both did!! Peter felt she was in love with an ideal of the younger and more idealistic boy! Opal of course disagreed and this is where the story takes on a life of its own and enter the Lyons Den and the calculating Mrs. Dove-Lyon!
This author took the Lyon’s Den Series Quest yet another dimension and it was done very well! The book touched on P.T.S.D. which I think is an important part of our life because not only does it factor in with soldiers, but those who suffer any type of major isolation issues and lots of other issues can have PTSD!!
I received this advanced copy from NetGalley and I willingly give my thoughts and opinions!!

I have been following this series, and I believe that this is the best adventure into the Lyons Den that Elizabeth Ellen Carter has written. Opal and Peter grew up in India as children of Royal Officers serving the Crown. Together they discover each other and have many adventures that form a close bond. But time moves on and Opal, as a young lady, is in London and Peter is serving in India. The distance causes a lapse in their relationship that makes Opal question Peter’s feelings. However, she does not realize that Peter has been wounded and several of his command, killed. Peter returns home a different man than when he left to serve. As Opal realizes someone must help her pursuit, she hires the one and only Mrs. Dove Lyon of the Lyons Den. The mighty Lyon of Matchmaking is only too happy to help Opal find a way to capture her love interest. For money of course, and a lovely piece of Indian Jewelry. But will it work or will the Lyon sleep through the night?
