I didn't get through the whole title, but this is one I may have to buy for my personal collection. It's so important to plan ahead, but I kept not wanting to read it for that same reason.

I have to say, I am truly amazed at all the things I would have overlooked had I not read this book. I have already gone through the sudden deaths of loved ones and the chaos that ensues - and now I wonder all that I had missed in terms of putting things in order as well as how much easier things would have been had things been taken care of beforehand. This book is sympathetically written, easy to follow, has great action plans and checklists, and a wealth of information on this very hard subject.

The book is broken down into three major topics: Start with your stuff (passwords, people, money, and your home); Assemble the pieces (trusts, wills, health care, and your digital matrix); Finishing touches (memorabilia, letters, funeral planning, and obituaries).

There were so many good topics in here: e.g., how best to store/save passwords so that your phone, ipad, computer, etc., can be accessed/used and don't need to be thrown away. But there are other considerations such as diaries and saved letters - do you really want your family to read those private love letters you wrote to someone in the past? Of course, it covers the usual needed items such as wills, writing your own obituary, and ensuring that children understand how you would like items distributed.

Death is probably one of the hardest subjects to discuss with family but if you don't, you could leave them in a very bad situation of having to do so much work to put your affairs in order while also grieving your loss. This book is a one-stop shop that is nicely presented, has great checklists and action lists to keep you focused on the topic, and a very friendly and encouraging tone that makes it so much easier. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

This is the book that no one wants to read or deal with until they absolutely have to; but when you have to, you should be prepared, and not overwhelmed. This book is the guide or tool to help you accomplish all the tasks almost painlessly. Plus, it does not have to be done all in a few days, you can take a week or even a month to gather all the required information.

This book is readable, well-organized, provides all the important topics, and even checklists! Who does not love a checklist, they are fool proof? The unchecked little box just glares at you until you get it done!

Thank you NetGalley, for this ARC in exchange for review.

When I requested this book to preview, I had no idea a friend of ours would die soon after. We are heartbroken for his family, but his wife told me he was very organized and she knew exactly where to find everything she needed. My husband and I got to thinking...that is not us.

In Case You Get Hit By a Bus is timely for many reasons. All of us think we have all the time in the world to get to the end of life planning. If there is anything we've learned in 2020, the end of life came for over 300,000 Americans because of an uncontrolled virus (so far/December). We ALL have to be cautious of what we are leaving behind. Gone are the days of putting everything in one folder. Our digital footprint is everywhere - that needs monitoring after we are gone.

The best part about this book isn't even the guidance, its the humor. If I can laugh out loud at a book about my own demise, the authors are onto something. Written by the founders of Everplans, this may read as a commercial for their website. But who cares? I need the info and I need someone to explain it to me. This fit the bill.

Recommended for those 18 and up...anyone who needs someone to look after things when they are gone.

Since I was unable to read the book due to a multitude of formatting errors, I will not be reviewing this book. Although I suspect the book would earn a higher star rating had I been able to read it, I can't justify giving it more than one star at this point.

Thank you to the authors, Workman Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a comprehensive and clearly structured guide for working through all the questions most of us are eager to put off for "someday". However, it goes far beyond the usual advice on wills, trusts, living wills etc. It includes extremely useful information and tips on managing your digital presence, tips for reducing your material possessions to lighten the load on your heirs, guidance for leaving effective departing words and planning your funeral (should you be so inclined), and ways to and encourage and support your loved ones in their planning.

Two things I had issues with: the formatting - why o why the difficult to read two-column style? - and the fact that the checklists would be better placed at the front of the book. In addition, I found it very USA-centric , albeit still very helpful for those of us in other countries.

Where was this book when I needed it? I encountered a lot of the a lot of the problems when I became financial power of attorney for my dad and then when I became the executor of his estate. Then my husband’s dementia made me turn to my own problems. How do I manage everything? Everything is in this book, from passwords, money management, bills, wills, contacts, medical issues. It’s a step-step plan. Use it as a guide and don’t expect to do it quickly. It will take time to get everything together, but it is was the most liberating thing I’ve done in knowing my husband’s needs will be met if something happens to me. The book breaks things done into three levels, from the urgent (passwords and financial) to house issues, to creating a living memory. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK.

I've been looking for a book just like this for the past few months. It's important to plan your estate, and this book gives you a step-by-step plan to do that. The author clearly details the sorts of information ones executors and family will need to know when you die. I will recommend this book to others.

Great, informational book. The checklist should go in the front. I also did not like the two-column newspaper-like
format. It's probably the reason it took me so long to read this one.
Thanks to Workman Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. I will recommend this book to our patrons.

This was a wonderful book, full of practical ideas for how to organize your personal information. I will be using some of these ideas now, before I get hit by a bus!

I am all for the content. It was broken down and simplified. I feel like it covered more than what many people need, but since everyone needs different information this all-encompassing style is useful.

Now I need to say something with regards to the format of this book. What is with the two-column newspaper style? Yikes. I, personally, did not care for this at all. It was probably the main reason why this book has taken me so long to get through.

For Libraries: With any luck some of the formatting issues and typos will be fixed prior to final publication, but I strongly recommend scanning through prior to purchase just in case. Otherwise, the content is wonderful and useful.

This book is fantastic! It's definitely not easy to face the inevitable and get everything sorted, but the authors have done a great job combining necessary information anddifferent options to choose from. The content is set up in a way it makes sense and the illustrations throughout the book make it a bit more "fun" to work through it.
I can highly recommend this to anyone who'd like to be prepared and organised in case you get hit by a bus.

An informative and helpful book. The checklist should have been at the beginning. This goes beyond the usual preparation type book because it guides on how to manage a digital foot print as well. Would recommend.

I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a critical book to read to get your affairs in order. The author outlines medical documents as advance directives, financial affairs and personal possessions. Everyone needs to read this and complete the steps the author recommends for the good of yourself and your family. This is not a topic most want to think about but very necessary in life. A must read. I did find it to be useful, educational and very sensible. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you for the ARC to the publisher and to Net Galley. My review opinion is my own.

I know we're supposed to focus on the content and not the format but man, this digital arc was unreadable in multiple places due to formatting errors, typos, and what seemed like whole chunks of sentences missing. What I was able to read seemed like a good start to getting things organized as early as possible in case of emergencies or unexpected death. I'm an anxious person who likes to have concrete plans in place for multiple possible scenarios so I did appreciate the place to start that this book provides.

However, the time estimations they give for tasks seem to have been purposely set incredibly low to make it seem like an easy thing to do. As a chronic procrastinator I can appreciate being tricked into getting something done but as someone who has helped downsize her grandparents and also attempted to get her mom to organize photos and ditch some dead weight possessions, this all takes longer than the authors say.

There's no time like the present to get your affairs in order. Book's like In Case You Get Hit by a Bus can spur us to tackle sensitive, unfamiliar, daunting end-of-life planning tasks. This book is up-to-date, including to-do lists to organize your online accounts. The book's brevity and clarity enable you to quickly read, plan, and then get the work done.

I received an electronic ARC from Workman Publishing Company through NetGalley.
A must read for adults. The authors take readers through all areas of preparation for illness and death in a matter of fact writing style. They include steps and explanations for getting paperwork and plans to help families cope in times of incredible stress and grief. Each chapter centers on organizing portions of your life and home - ex. Wills & Trusts, Paperwork, Medical and other Directives. If a reader follows the steps provided, by the end of the book, they will have an organized life plan that can be reviewed and followed when a death or serious illness occurs. As a bonus, readers may weed out some unneeded items in their life now. My only wish is that the final checklist was moved to the front of the book to follow as readers implement the information in each segment.
Will definitely be purchasing a copy so I can write in it and refer to it as needed.

It is a book to be read when you are still alive and teaches what to do when you are there not more.
It prepares you to pass down your legacy to your family.
It teaches various things you need to save and secure in process of confirming easy transfer of assets including land, art, password, social media accounts and everything that your heirs deserve.
Although some parts are difficult like corporation and estate and trust formation.
It also introdcuces to various tools that can help us in this.
A very good and practical book that is written in a eye-catching format.

The author’s brother dies suddenly and leaves the family unsure of his final wishes, which causes her to create an digital company to help people prepare for the unexpected and leave their loved ones with answers.

There is a lot of information in this book. A little too much at times. Easy to read. Some of the information was not needed by me but maybe others will find it informative.
