Sisters! You can't live with them and you can't live without them.

Breathing Underwater is a great book about sisters, Olivia and Ruth, who are on a road trip back to California where they have buried a time capsule. But the story is really not about the time capsule but the trip itself. Olivia loves taking pictures and she wants more than anything to make her sister smile.. Ruth is suffering from depression and seems to be getting worse.

I really loved the relationship between the two sisters as well as the aunt and uncle. This book explores depression, relationships and love very well.

Excellent book about sisters traveling with relatives across country. The older sister takes meds for depression while the other sister is taking pictures of their trip for Instagram. As they travel, the sisters get to know each better through music, the photos, and the older sister’s need for introspection. At the end, the sisters realize they love each other, even the things they don’t understand.

Great road trip sister story dealing with depression- the dangerous downward spiral, medical treatment, and a hopeful ending. The relationship between Olivia and her older sister Ruth, who struggles with the disorder, feels authentic- confusing, painful and at times frightening. Realistic and relevant.

Once again, Sarah Allen expertly explores family dynamics and growing up in this moving and heartfelt middle grade. I thoroughly enjoyed What Stars Are Made Of and Allen’s new title will not disappoint fans of her debut. Highly recommended.

An absolutely amazing book about sisters, mental illness, and a healing road trip. Olivia is determined to get her big sister Ruth back to being like her old self. She is determined this road trip, which she is documenting with her camera, will do the trick to help Ruth's depression. This treasure hunt of a story will help readers understand the darkness of depression and the healing relationship a sister can have on mental illness.
