Even though I did not read the first book, I could understand what is happening in this novel. This was a really an enjoyable novel! I liked how it was very suspenseful which kept me up reading. The part is the paranormal aspect! The writing was very well-written! The setting was very atmospheric! This story made me want to go back and read the first book!

It took me a long time to read this book. I found the characters flat and could not bring myself to get invested in the story. I kept going back to it, thinking it has to get better but it just did not. Finding out at the end that this entire book was just an introduction to a series was disappointing.
The plot was interesting. It just felt like there was too much going on at the same time so nothing was given adequate depth. I will not be reading the rest of the series.

This story brings us to Northern Alabama in 1821 to a family owned Inn where Cassie’s mother was murdered. She sends word to her brothers and father to come home to find her mothers murderer. Her brother Giles comes home but only wants to stay long enough to find his mothers murderer and then head back to his own business. With Cassie begging him to stay until their father returns home and the ghost of their mother also telling him he needs to stay, he has to decide what he will do.
Oh, there are shocking family secrets revealed in this book and I’m sure there are many more to come.
This storyline kept a steady pace. The characters kept evolving as time went on.

First off I want to let the reader know that this book is a series so there is no conclusion at the end of the book. With that being said, after I read this book, I found that there was actually a book prior to this one. Perhaps reading that one first would have given me a bit more history on the characters but I don’t believe not reading the first book made this one less interesting. Will I go back and read the first book-yes. Will I read the rest of the series-yes.

This storyline kept a steady pace. The characters kept evolving as time went on. My thoughts are that the author chose an excellent place to stop this book. I look forward to reading what the next installment has in store for me.
I think this entire series is absolutely worth every minute of my time to read. There are so many twists and turns. I keep wondering who are the good characters and who are the bad ones. To me, if I have read an entire book and haven’t figured that out yet, that is definitely a sign of a great book.
If you are a fan of historical fiction with a little ghost action, I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #MysticOwlPublishing for the copy of this book.

I wish I had read the 1st book prior to reading this one. It is possible I would have like it better if I had the back story. The writing is wonderful and expressive. But the ending is disappointing. I love reading books that continue on in the next installment. This one just ended as if in the middle of a scene.

Omg what a twist,
So glad they solved the mystery of mercy's death. But then secrets are unravelled.
When I read the information about the book I expected romance and a murder mystery but with this added twist, it makes it a whole lot better.
Page turner cannot wait for the 3rd book in the series
