Love is possible at any age. Finding the one who completes you can happen when you least expect it. Sometimes changing your view provides you with everything you ever needed. Such a great story!

I wasn't expecting this to be more of a romantic suspense. I found this took me awhile to get into. The characters seemed really angry in the beginning of this book. Like angry at everything. It was grump meets grump. Overall I thought this was okay. I found the characters slightly annoying when they hated everything and the F bomb was way over used. Don't get me wrong I like a good swear as much as the next person but the F bomb 3 times in the same sentence is a bit overkill IMO.

A failed marriage and a rift between her kids that she helped cause has Leelo embracing the motel she inherited from her Uncle Sam. Leelo is determined to start a new life and accept the rundown motel that she plans to fix up. Half the time Leelo is unsure what she is doing but when business owner and neighbor finds her in a thunderstorm on the roof Roar steps in.

Roar is known in town for his brash no nonsense tone and at first he thinks the blue haired tattooed goddess is nuts. Getting to know her he still thinks she is nuts but he wants more. Roar is not a man to get attached to women but he wants more with Leelo. She is a strong woman who stands up for herself and has him wanting to pull her in for a kiss every time he sees her. Things are not smooth sailing though when someone seems intent on sabotaging the motel, her son comes for a visit and her daughter is questioning everything. Roar though stands by Leelo's side making it clear he has back in everything she does.

I really enjoyed this one. I think the fact that Leelo had to restart and felt completely lost when her ex left was a hard pill to swallow. I liked that she got up after being knocked down and was a force in accepting who she was now. A feel good read that was difficult to put down. Want to go back and read the rest of the series now.

Change of View by Freya Barker is the second book in the Northern Lights series. Each book in the series works well on its own, as each installment features a different couple. This story follows a heroine on her journey to creating a better version of herself and an alpha hero who helps her along.

A Change of View introduces Roar and Leelo. At the beginning of the story, readers learn of Leelo inheriting a lodge in Northern Ontario from her uncle. Recovering from an acrimonious divorce and in search of a change of pace, she moved to Northern Ontario. A decision which led to her renovating not only the property she inherited but also her life. With the renovations to the property, it would seem she bit off more than she could chew. However, with the unsolicited help of her bearded, lumber jack looking neighbor, Roar, the task no longer appeared undaunting.

Roar didn’t know what to think when he witnessed a blue-haired, tattooed woman trying to repair her roof during a thunderstorm. Being the gentleman he is, he assisted her with the repairs, but not before he gave her a proper dressing down. A reaction Leelo did not appreciate. Soon he is offering to provide further assistance where needed, and it’s not long before things get heated between them. Meanwhile, someone wants to destroy Leelo’s confidence by sabotaging her efforts in getting the lodge into an operational state.

Leelo didn’t appreciate Roar’s bossy personality. An alpha to the core. His military background more than likely contributed to his take charge nature. As one gets deeper into the story, the reason for Leelo’s negative reaction to Roar’s take charge attitude becomes clear. One could not fault her. As she learnt to trust Roar, she came to terms with his personality. She was overly emotional, a trait which intensified whenever Roar, or anyone who, showed her kindness. This was understandable, seeing that her ex did a number on her.

The breakdown in the marriage had a ripple effect on her relationship with her children. They blamed her for everything. Also, her questionable choices during that period did not help. One could tell that it hurts, but Leelo accepted it and acknowledged her part in the breakdown of their relationship. It warmed my heart to see them bridging the gap leading to healing and restoration.

Like the previous book, the romance focuses on a mature couple in their mid-forties. This slow burn romance will warm your heart. Roar and Leelo were perfect for each other. She open his heart to the possibility of a second chance at love …while he showed her she was worthy to be loved.

Austin Barringer and Anneliese Rennie. This was my first experience with both narrators. Austin narrated Roar’s chapters, and I thought he did an excellent job interpreting Roar’s character. He also did a great job with the female voices. I wasn’t a big fan of Anneliese’s narration. Her interpretation of Leelo sounded off. I think she did a better job with the voices for the supporting cast.

I just didn't care for the narrator on this audio book. I don't usually request audios for this very reason. I guess I was mislead by the cover and expected a more laid back presentation. Good try though, maybe I need to give it another try and would do better with a print version. Thanks.

I found this story incredibly dull which is why I listened to it over many separate sessions. There was just nothing to really grab my attention.

A Change of View is the second book in the Northern Lights series. This book is told from dual points of view by Leelo and Roar.

After finding out her husband has cheated on her, Leelo has decided to move on with her life. She inherited a hotel from one of her family members. While she is there she meets her brooding neighbor Roar. He just shows up and starts helping her without her wanting his help at first.

However, as they get to know each other feelings start to develop. Someone is going after Leelo and keeps doing stuff to her property. Roar is there to help her try to find out what is going on.

When Leelo's son shows up to help he starts to have a bond with Roar as well. Leelo's daughter is having a harder time with her parent's split.

What happens when Leelo's ex shows up? Will her daughter realize that her mom is trying the best she can? Will they figure out who is going after Leelo's property? Will Leelo and Roar get their happily ever after?

I really enjoyed this book, and am interested to read more in the series!

The blurb caught my attention but after that I lost my interest and didn't read this book. Maybe next time.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! I liked the premise of them being an older couple and the story elements were engaging. Usually, romances in this category fall short of developing a good story, so I am so glad to have discovered this author. I keep making a list of authors that have good romantic suspense stories and I am glad I can add Freya Barker to this list!

I am new to these narrators' work but they did a great job as well

This book has all the steam, wowza.

You will find two mature/older main characters find love again after a lot of heartache.

I highly recommend you listen to the audio of this book.

The male voice actor was perfect!!

This book was just good, I am going to have to read al of Freya’s books.

Thank you Spectrum Audio and Netgalley for an advanced audio to provide my sassy thoughts.

I liked this book as I’m a sucker for northern books.! I like books with the starting over premise and when characters have to struggle through their own perceptions of others. I would recommend this as a quick read for an afternoon .

ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for more from Freya Barker. Hero and Heroine were mature and there wasn't any manufactured drama, which is a nice surprise from so many romance books lately. Recommend!

This was such a good book. First time listening to a Freya Barker. I am so glad I did. Loved listening about Roar and Leelo. Roar is a hot lumberjack. Leelo is a woman that has had a hard life. Glad I was able to listen about them and get to know them throughout the book. Highly recommend. A great book Freya Barker.

I liked both the book and the narrator, more than I thought I would. There aren't so many books involving a slightly older and imperfect H and h, but this one had both...and did it well. I liked the premise, I liked the characters, and I liked the town and setting. These flawed characters really worked for me and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

I really enjoy the fact that Freya Barker writes about real women. Leelo is a forty-something divorcee with grown children. She has cellulite, carries a few extra pounds, is battling menopause and is doing her best to deal with everything life tosses at her. She is a real character.

Roar, her grumbly neighbor isn't the most friendly person at first. However, they gradually become friends and then lovers. It's a natural flow and was wonderful to watch it all unfold. I liked seeing how she wrote a realistic relationship between two people in their mid forties. I absolutely loved Roar's character.

I review the audiobook and it was fairly enjoyable. I'd rate the audio as 3 1/2 stars and the storyline as 4 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley for this audio review copy. I wrote a review by choice and the opinions contained within are my own.

Roar and Leelo have both had time to live life and experience many of the things they don't want in life. The adult romance was more than the everyday insta love that floats around. I loved the maturity of the romance and its characters. I loved the hint of mystery around the site where Leelo decides to restart her life after divorce. The thing that I found most important was the maturity of the story. That love after life knocks you down. The writings from Freya Barker makes me smile when I get the chance to get my hands on any.

Anneliese Rennie & Austin Barringer bring these rich characters to life. The narration was a good balance between the two sides of the story. The only drawback was the echo quality in the audio.

Just as fantastic as the ebook. The narration is exactly like I heard them in my head.. Roar and Leelo aren't characters without feeling and emotion in their voices and the narration compliments Freya's world she created so nicely that you don't even realize the book is over!
Excellent. I'd absolutely recommend the audio and the ebook.

<i> audiobook arc provided by the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review</i>

I’ll start this review off with a review about the actual audiobook! I really enjoyed the narrators! I feel like they did an absolute great job and I would definitely listen to more that they have narrated.

My only complain is that the actual audiobook couldn’t go over 2x speed, it would skip over words which was frustrating as I prefer to listen at 3x speed! But overall, I had a great time with it.

As for the actual novel, it wasn’t my favourite contemporary. I found the love interest to be quite immature and annoying especially at the beginning. He was just too alpha male for my tastes and he didn’t think before his actions.

I did really like Leelo. It was nice to see her character development as she had to learn how to renovate and set up her uncle’s motel. Her relationship with her kids and how that progressed was really sweet too.

Overall, this was just an okay read. I enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away.

2.5/5 🌟

A Change of View is my first reading experience with Freya Barker, and it's left me somewhere in the fair to middlin range. It's a good story, but it felt like it was stretched out unnecessarily.
There were several things that I really liked about this story. I love that the characters are around my age, which is a rare find in romance lately, and I liked both Roar and Leelo. They didn't act like lovestruck teenagers, they're both strong characters, and I like that the author paints them realistically. Granted, Roar seemed to be aging more gracefully than Leelo, but isn't that always the way? Either way, it felt real as far as their experience and actions. Leelo is understandably insecure after a bitter divorce, but she's working hard to accept herself and she's unapologetically a what you see is what you get kind of woman. Roar, of course, is the typical sexy love interest, but he's also a complete sweetheart and he's comfortable in his own skin.
Of course, I can't talk about an audiobook without mentioning the narrators. Both Anneliese Rennie and Austin Barringer do a great job with this story, and I like that I didn't feel like I was just listening to someone read a story. The emotion came through wonderfully, and the performances of both narrators worked well for these characters.
As I mentioned, I was left in mid range with this book, and a lot of that can be chalked up to the length of the book. Now, I have no problem with longer books, and I've read quite a lot of them, but if a book is going to be 400+ pages or almost 10 hours listening time, then it should be paced so that there are no lags in the story. This one is not. There is just too much of the mundane for my tastes. I didn't need a detailed account of Leelo building a webpage for her hotel only to forget to save it when she went to get clothes out of the dryer. Really? I can get that right here in my own everyday life.
Then we have the suspense part of this story. Honestly, with the way it's done, I wouldn't have considered this a romantic suspense if I hadn't already known that's what it was supposed to be. It was easy enough to figure out who was behind everything, and it was even pretty easy to figure out the why - maybe not all the details of it but enough that it didn't have a mystery vibe at all. Other than one scene with some danger, the 'mystery' felt more secondary - like something to move the romance along, something to give Roar a reason to be the big protective male and hang around. The things that happened could've been played up a bit for a sense of mystery, but that just wasn't the case here.
To sum it up, this one is an entertaining romance with great characters, but it meanders much more than I liked, and I didn't consider it suspenseful in the least. In the end, I liked it okay, but it's not something I feel like I'd listen to again anytime soon.

I thought this book was quite sweet and atmospheric. The setting was brought to life beautifully and added to the quality of the romance being portrayed.
