Again, like the first book in the Northern Lights series, I loved the setting - rustic Canadian town/lodge/lake - and many of the characters. The main characters being in their 40s was a nice twist for a romance tale. The section where Roar was fighting the wildfire was really interesting, since I was listening to that while the western US was on fire. That said, two things bugged me about this book: first, <spoiler>the sudden, violent confrontation that included a murder</spoiler>, which seemed to take the story for a really dark turn that to me didn't fit with the overall feel of the book. Second, the female audiobook narrator (Anneliese Rennie) did NOT FIT Leelo at all - her Northern Midwest accent was incredibly distracting and she somehow made Leelo sound older than 46 and not like a funky, tattoo-covered, blue-haired lady.

A Change of View by Freya Barker is the 2nd book in The Northern Lights Connection series. I am liking the concept of reading mature characters in romance novels.
i heard the audio book for a A Change of View courtesy of #NetGalley & Spectrum audio and I truly enjoyed the experience. Anneliese Rennie and Austin Barringer as narrators gave life and personality to the characters.

I would definitely recommend this as a light read!!

Readometer rating - 3.5*/5

Another great book by Freya Barker. I swear they just keep getting better. This book will draw you in and grab hold until the last word. I have only listened to a couple of Audiobooks, but I have found this one has kept my attention and I did enjoy the Narrators.

Mia and Jared developed a slow burn relationship and it was beautiful to listen to it unfold. As with any Freya Barker book, I totally fell in love with these characters and it is always pleasing for me that the characters are older.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and I will definitely listen to more in the future.

Thanks to Netgalley and Spectrum Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this title.

This audio book was fantastic. It was a great listen, with characters I cared very much about, It was a long listen but I enjoyed it because I could easily lose myself in it. The plot was very enjoyable. It blended my favourite things - romance, great people and a mystery too. The conclusion to all was very satisfying .

The characters are middle aged adults with adult children, former lives, and have life experiences and personal strength to draw on. They care about themselves and about their loved ones. I love it when I can feel a character, when I get why they fell in love with each other because I fell in love with them both too!

The narrators were as good as the author! Austin Barringer voiced Roar, and Anneliese Rennie was the voice of Leelo. These narrators are not just reading the words; they are telling the story. It's like a movie in your head.

This is y second audio book by Freya Barker and from Spectrum Audio books. I will certainly get another. In fact, I have already bought the ebooks of this one, and Book 3 in the Northern Lakes Series for my Kindle.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. At first the woman's voice sounded a bit weird in my ears. But till the end I realized that it actually added to the story and the overall experience. The story was quite unique and with unexpected turn of events, which attributed to the plot in addition to the fantastic scenery. Made me wish I was traveling to that area. A reading or hearing I would definitely advice.

A Change of View is the second book in Freya Barker’s Northern Lights Series. This book can be read as a standalone.
You relate to her characters immediately and want to crawl into bed with her leading men. A Change of View is no different. If you like well thought out stories with vivid characters you can relate to, then pick up this book or any other of Ms. Barker's heartwarming tales. You WON'T be disappointed.

I loved that Leelo is a older character. She is in her forties and her life has been turned upside down. She loved her life as a wife and mother until it all changed. Now she is determined to move up north and revamp the motel she inherited.

A Change Of View is a beautiful story or two people learning about life changing.

When I saw A change of view available as an audiobook on Netgalley, I jumped on the opportunity to listen to it. I liked the first book A change in tide so I thought this was going to be a quick & cute romance story. And while this was good enough, sadly, I think I enjoyed the first book more. I feel like I didn't connect to these characters who were older than in the first book.

In this book, we follow an emotional and stubborn woman who has the tendency to want to do everything on her own even when she doesn't really have the skills yet. It was kind of funny to see the alpha male hero being annoyed at her for getting herself in danger at times because of it. The audiobook didn't keep my attention entirely this time and the female narrator's voice wasn't my favorite but we can't win every time, right?

A sweet and steamy read that kept me entertained all the way through. I love Roar! He's older and stuck in his ways, broody and deliciously, gorgeous. His past with a woman he once loved has dictated how he's lived his life, never really taking a risks with love. Leelo is finally trying to move on now that she's been given the chance. A divorce from her husband and struggles with her children understanding her choices has motivated her to stand up for what she wants and needs.

An almost enemies to lovers vibe at first because Roar is ultimately a stubborn man. He's not used to Leelo's ways and not ready for the changes she's making to this small, beautifully rustic town. But things progress and when these two are together its an achy, needy seductive burn. I couldn't help but fall for these characters.

I listened to the audiobook version and the narrators did a fantastic job. The narrator for Leelo seemed to have a voice that was a little older that the age of the character. But I grew to love the sassiness of her voice that brought out the character. The narrator for Roar was perfect, a smooth gravel to his voice that my skin tingle. Overall I really loved it!

Quick, cute read.

This is a small town romance with a hot alpha male and an emotional, stubborn woman. I liked that Leelo was pretty self sufficient and didn't want to rely on others to do what needed to be done. She did have a temper and was quick to cry which I didn't love, but I like that she stood up for herself. Roar is a great leading man, he helps others in need without expecting payment or reimbursement and treats Leelo like a queen.

The plot had some drama that kept the plot moving, even though it was a bit obvious who was behind the sabotage. It did push Roar and Leelo together and helped everything wrap up nicely. Maybe now I'll go back and read book 1.

A Change of View by Freya Barker
Narrated by Anneliese Rennie, Austin Barringer
Full disclosure this was my first audio book. I was not sure how I was going to like listening to a book. Well, I LOVED it and so did my dog. He had to walk longer because I had to hear the rest of a chapter or just one more chapter. My husband LOVED it because he got to go to bed with the lights out. I won’t replace my books, but I will be listening to more books.

This story had two POA therefore it was narrated by two people who told the story well. The story was not earth shattering (small town romance) but great for summer when we are in a pandemic and not traveling. Barker described the mountains and lake of Northern Ontario beautifully. I liked that she had a strong female character – one that we see grow and whose children learn to admire that growth.
A super fun book to listen to.

The male narrator really suits this type book. I really enjoyed listening to him and was engaged when he was speaking

I didn't like the female narrator, which made me not like the female character. There was something a little too try hard about this character / narrator which made me disengaged and roll my eyes.

Without knowing that this was the second book of the Northern Lights Series, I honestly didn't feel confused while diving into this. It probably helps that the first book had a different couple in it. Or maybe I'm just weird and going with the flow today. Who knows.

A Change of View was a kind of cute book. I don't really care for the narrators because they just kind of made me want to take a nap instead of listening to the audiobook. Luckily for me, this book was on KU (Kindle Unlimited). Don't get me wrong, the characters in this book were kind of likable and cute. Yet, things just didn't make a lot of sense to me at a certain point of the book.

It was like something just switched on me and enemies randomly became friends. Not sure what happened overnight, or in between the pages I was reading, but I will go with it from now on. Other than that, the speed and flow of this book was just killing me. I was really bored during some moments in this book that I just wanted to skip to the end.

I will admit that none of that happened and I stuck through it but damn.. I really wish I could have a fast forward button sometimes.

A Change of View (Northern Lights Collection Book 2) by Freya Barker is a great listen. The narrators embodied the characters, and it was easy to distinguish whose point of view was being shared.

Leelo is on the road to redefining who she is. On this journey, she decides to take the opportunity to move to a small town and take over her late uncle’s business. Roar runs a fishing lodge nearby and is set in his ways. The chemistry between the characters is noticeable. Overall this is a five-star read for me. I loved the story, romance, and the hint of a mystery.

Thank you, NetGalley for a copy of the audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Spectrum Audio for the complimentary audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I loved that both the hero and heroine are in their forties. I liked the fact that the heroine, Leelo, is a little rough around the edges but is someone who is living her life and getting things done. I thought the hero Roar was great. A little gruff, very quiet, but always there to help people who need it.

This is the second book I've read in the Northern Lights Collection and I'm really enjoying these stories a lot. I like the remote Canadian small town atmosphere of the books and how the books center around mature adults who are at crossroads and making their way in a life that hasn't always gone smoothly.

I really enjoyed the narration on this audiobook. At first the female narrator jarred me a bit because the voice is a bit gruff. But stick with it because she does a great job of embodying the character. The male narrator also does a good job voicing the males in the story.

A Change of View
Northern Lights, Book 2
By: Freya Barker
Narrated by: Anneliese Rennie, Austin Barringer

Freya Barker is fast becoming one of my favorites! She writes stories that are easy to fall into, become part of the community and listen to hear the outcome of our new friends. This one features Leelo. I love her! A divorced woman, restarting her life. She inherits some property from her uncle and begins her trek to opening her motel. While she is sometimes over the top, I can totally understand her as she finds her new normal. She is ambitious but when it comes to some of the renovation, she finds her neighbor Roar, to be quite the handyman. Roar is quite taken with Leelo, and he too has some baggage from his past. But these two, even though completely different just seem to fit. Add in Leelo's kids and Roar's mother Charlie and we have a fantastic family to visit and enjoy. I have to say, I loved the fact that this was a couple in their 40's which made it all the more fun for me!

The narration was wonderful! Anneliese Rennie channeled herself into Leelo, giving her all the emotions. Sometimes a little crazy, sometimes frustrated and angry and sometimes loving and passionate. She nails her character perfectly. This is my first Austin Barringer listen, and I can't wait to hear more from him. He is fantastic! As Roar, he is the calming effect and made his character very appealing. I will be watching for more from him. This was hours of entertainment and I can't wait for book 3!

3.5 Stars

When Leelo inherits a property up north she jumps at the promise of freedom and independence. Yet not everyone in her new community is what they seem, starting with the surling mountain man down the road. As owner of the local fishing lodge, Roar is content with his everyday life. And the older he gets, the less he appreciates change. So when a blue-haired, tattooed city girl moves into the old motel, shaking up his daily routine, he’s none to pleased. Still, something about the woman’s easy smile and almost reckless grit has him step up as her keeper.

This was a great audio to listen, the story was high-paced, fun and easy to read.
I loved that the characters were in their 40s.
This is the second book in the Northern Lights series but it can be read as a standalone; I haven’t read book one, but now is on my list.

A great book! Good story, likeable characters and a good pace! To top it off the narration was excellent - each main character narrated by a different person making it easier to follow than someone putting on a different voice. Recommended!

I enjoyed A Change of View and will be reading more from Freya Barker soon.

The narration suited the book well and was paced good too. The narrators did a great job of bringing Leelo and Roar to life and enhanced the story.

I liked that the main love interests here were older than most romances out there! The dual POV was done just right and created a rich story. They were very authentic characters. that made mistakes and grew from their experiences. I love it when the leading lady of the story has a backbone and is feisty. Roar was just perfect too!

Leelo inherits a lodge/cabin rental property in Northern Ontario and decides to move up, renovate, and make a new life. She needs the change in scenery after a bitter divorce, but tackling the property updates proves harder than she bargained for. No worries, her growly neighbor Roar has taken upon himself to help out.

Roar owns the lodge up the road and so when he sees Leelo up on the roof on one of the cabins trying to repair damage during a thunderstorm he goes off on her for her recklessness. A dressing down that Leelo doesn’t appreciate, but he does help, and even with his gruff nature, it’s not long before sparks ignite between the two of them. However, they must fit in their romance between the dangers that come from someone trying to sabotage Leelo’s efforts to get her lodge up and running.

I got a definite Kristen Ashley vibe here with a bossy alpha male determined to protect, niceties be damned. Roar was a sweetie, but he was very direct and concise.

Leelo was a bit of a prickly pear at first, not taking to kindly to Roar’s take-charge attitude, but I could see where she was coming from after being walked all over by her husband and taking it for years. The divorce did some damage to her relationship with her kids, but I got that, too. I’m sure it’s hard when you’re going through hell not to complain about your cheating ex, but I was glad to see Leelo get a handle on that, rise above and be the bigger person. It made a huge difference with her kids, and I loved seeing them mend fences and draw close.

A Change of View is the second in the Northern Lights series I’ve listened to by Freya Barker and I think I liked this one a little more than the first. I liked that it was a romance featured a mature couple, both are in their 40s. It’s not necessary to read the first book, because they are completely unrelated other than maybe a similar location? Which sounded beautiful! Rustic cabins in the forest with lake views? I’m ready to head there now.

I listened to the audio book and enjoyed the performance. Austin Barringer narrated Roar’s chapters, and I enjoyed his rough, masculine voice. He did well with the female parts, too. Anneliese Rennie performed Leelo’s chapters, and she did well, but I did think her voice sounded a little older than Leelo’s age and maybe not particularly feminine. Not sure what it was, but I got used to her as the book went on.

DNF at 25%

I picked up this audiobook because I found the first book in the series enjoyable, but the flow of this book is not quite the same. Also, the series is really loose, because these characters weren't introduced in the previous book, and if the characters from the previous book make a cameo appearance in this book, I didn't get that far.

One of the appealing aspects of this book to me was that the protagonists are older - Leelo is 46 and Roar is also seasoned. I also liked that Leelo has blue hair and tattoos because that's one of the ways romance challenges our ideas about people - who's normal and who deserves a beautiful love story. But ultimately this book didn't work for me. By 25% I never got invested in the story or the characters, who mostly seemed to be doing the same thing over and over (working on Leelo's dilapidated hotel), and I had an inkling of the conflict, but it was very slow in building and I just didn't know that I cared if the protagonists get into a tiff with another local guy.

Regarding the narration, I've listened to Annaliese Rennie before, and I didn't think anything of her voice, but in this instance, the moment I heard her voice I thought, "This sounds like a middle-aged woman." Which, as it turns out, was what it should be. But as I continued listening, the voice of the character combined with the voice of Rennie made me think that maybe I'd like to sit down with her over a beer, but I didn't like listening to her telling this story. Austin Barringer reading the Roar chapters was pleasant.

TL;DR - The hook was just too slow, and the narration didn't make me want to stick it out.
