A Page Marked for Murder is the fifth book in the Page Bookstore Mystery series. The reader follows Addie Geryborne, who owns a bookshop and sells rare books. Addie lives in a small town in massachussets where a lot of strange things are happening. And old lady falls and ends up in the hospital, leaving Addie with a dog to take care of. A body is found with barely any clues that lead to a murderer. A rare edition of The Secret Garden ends up mysteriously disappearing. Although Addie said she wouldn't get involved in investigations anymore, she can't help but try to tie the clues together.

The book reads so easily. The story is quick and keeps you engaged. There's more than enough happening to stay interested. New clues keep unfolding, steering the reader and characters into different directions. The characters were not bland and superficial, which makes the story cozy and draws you in.

There's quite a lot of characters to distinguish in this book, but they're easy to seperate, which helps a lot with getting into a story. Apart from the characters there's of course the environment. A cozy town with a cute bookshop, bakery, beach. It has everything a cozy book needs. A wholesome town with some disturbances.

The murder mystery in this book is well done. There's plenty of clues to discover and many suspects to focus on. What I enjoyed most was that there's so much happening. It's not just the murder, but also the mystery of the missing book that keeps the reader engaged. Besides that there's Gloria in the hospital and the little dog Pippi that Addie takes care of. I loved all these side activities, because it kept the story going.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. No need to worry about it being the fifth in a series. You can easily read this when you've read none of the other books. There's plenty of information about each of the characters to not feel left out. With the setting in a cozy small town, it's a great cozy mystery to pick up.

I am a long time fan of Lauren's and she is a delight to talk to. Every new book that she comes out with is just as good as the last. I love this town and cast of characters. You will feel like you know them and want to keep going back for a visit.

This is book 5 of the Beyond the Page Bookstore mystery series. It is the first book in the series that I have read. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to going back to book one and meeting the characters from the beginning. This book was able to stand alone though it did leave me with questions about what I missed in the first four books. The setting was nice and I was able to picture the small seaside town in Massachusetts. This plot follows two mysteries which makes it interesting. The story moved along at a nice pace and kept me engaged. I recommend this book.

A Page Marked for Murder by Lauren Elliott is the fifth book of the cozy Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. Each book of this series contains it’s own mystery to solve so they could be read as a standalone or in any order. However, one would get to know the characters better reading the series in order with some character development carrying over book to book.

In the first book of this series, Murder by the Book, readers were introduced to Addison Greyborne who had returned to her hometown, a small New England town that had been named for her ancestors back in Colonial times, Greyborne Harbor. Addie had been still recovering from the murder of her fiance, her father dying in a tragic accident and then had found out a long lost aunt had also died but left her whole estate to Addie.

Addie’s inheritance had given her the opportunity to start over and continue to work with books after leaving her job at the Boston Public Library. With her aunt having so many rare books in her collection and the funds to open a shop Addie decided to open Beyond the Page bookstore. Now as Addie finds she is fitting into the town better each day she finds herself dogsitting when a friend is injured. However, as usual for Addie she ends up finding another dead body, this time behind the shops and when her friend is arrested Addie is determined to find another killer.

I have been following the Beyond the Page Bookstore series from the beginning and it isn’t quite as quirky and humorous as I normally prefer but I have still enjoyed reading. The books started off feeling like it had a touch of romantic suspense to it as Addie got close to the police chief and worked together instead of completely on her own in most cozies but she’s more independent now as the series has gone on and the books have fallen more and more into the humorous cozy vibe. With each book that I read I become more attached to Addie and her small town mysteries.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Now on to my thoughts
First off like always I want to say a huge thank you to the publisher Kensington Books , the author Lauren Elliott , and to NetGalley for letting read and review it. As to way liked it so much is because it takes place in a small New England town where everybody knows your business and a bookstore owner who has a knack for finding bodies and trouble no matter what , And the descriptions of the cold weather, the bookstore, the town, and its colorful residents aw well as the slight romance between Addie and Simon, bought the story to life.

A Page Marked for Murder by Lauren Elliot
Book #5: Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery Series
Source: NetGalley, Kensington, and Purchase
Rating: 4/5 stars

The Bottom Line: One of the hallmarks of good series (for me!) is being away from the series for a while and falling right back into the latest book like you never left! Addie, her cozy little town, and her wonderful bookstore all fit the bill of a welcoming old friend and I was delighted to return to this series after time away.

Like so many others, Addie doesn’t go looking for trouble, but it certainly knows where to find her. In the short time she’s lived in town, Addie has solved several crimes and the locals now know they can count her to dive into any mischief. Chief among those residents is Addie’s work neighbor, Martha, the surly baker who would make a good suspect for nearly any crime committed within city limits. Getting Martha off the hook isn’t going to be easy when the victim is known jerk hellbent on hurting Martha’s daughter and granddaughter.

I still love all the twists and turns in this series and how every book has a bookish twist. Addie is one of my all-time favorite cozy mystery characters and I don’t ever seem to get enough of her sleuthing, her delightful town, or her circle of friends who always seem to step up when Addie needs them most. The real sense of community is one of the things I love most about this series and that shines through once again in this book. There are even a few little bits at the end that has me wondering about future plotlines and character development. All very good signs for the continuation of this series.

This is the fifth book in the series and it's every bit as enjoyable as the previous four. This book is well crafted and there were plenty of red herrings to keep you on your toes. I love the setting in this series and I've grown very fond of some of the characters. However, I'm not always a fan of Addie or Marc, they need to grow up in my opinion. I do love Martha and Paige and it was fun to have them take center stage on this book.

Princess Fuzzypants here: Addie, who has never had a pet before, is asked to care for Gloria’s dog after she is hospitalized from a fall. She is taken by surprise and charmed by the little pooch and it’s a good thing she has.his furry support because things are going to get crazy around town. And it all seems to revolve around her assistant Paige and Paige’s mom, Addie’s former nemesis. Both Paige’s father and the father of her child show up unannounced throwing everyone’s lives into chaos.

It is only escalated when one of them ends up murdered and Paige’s family are amongst the prime suspects. Then there is the book that Paige lent to Gloria the victim of the fall. It turns out to be a valuable first edition which disappears mysteriously around the time of the murder. In support of Paige, Addie gets embroiled in the investigation where there are lies and deceptions galore. When the killer is revealed, the reader might be forgiven for thinking it was justifiable homicide.

I’ve enjoyed this series and this one is no exception. Fast paced, full of twists and highly entertaining. I give it five purrs and two paws up.

The fifth book in the series, A Page Marked for Murder, was much better than the last three in the series. Finally, the love triangle is over. I barely kept reading the series because of the former love triangle. The main character is becoming a little more likeable now. The mystery in this book was much more realistic, of something she could find herself involved in. I liked the addition of Pippi the dog. I wish the author would talk more about the historic house, and perhaps have Addison work in it. It's been hard to relate to her, she's so stubborn and doesn't seem to have interests other than flying off the handle over everything.

Addie is busy with the fire and ice festival and get busier when she adds in dog sitting for a hospitalized friend. Add in a valuable missing book and a body to complete Addie's hectic schedule. Some parts of the book were very obvious while others kept me guessing. It was a nice mix for a cozy mystery and a light read.

Addie Greyborne lives in a small New England town and owns a bookshop. One morning a friend's little dog shows up at her shop barking. When she runs across the street to the park, she finds his owner Gloria on the ground, having fallen from a ladder while decorating for the local festival. When it's determined she needs to have a hip replacement, Addie is determined as the best person to care for the little dog, and goes with her friend and next-door business owner Martha to collect things for the dog.

While at Gloria's home she also notices a copy of The Secret Garden on Gloria's night stand. When Martha tells her that it belongs to her daughter Paige, Addie's employee, Addie tells Martha that it might just be worth over $25,000, which stuns Martha.

But there are other things occupying Martha's mind and which Addie wants to ask her, but won't: like who were the men and woman she was arguing with outside her shop? And why was she threatening them? Unfortunately, the next day, when Addie goes to work, she and a homeless man named Bill find the dead body of one of the men behind Martha's shop -- and it promptly puts Martha in lead position as the suspect in killing him. When she's arrested for the murder, Addie promises Paige to do all she can to save her.

But Addie has other things on her mind, too: when she goes to Gloria's home to retrieve the book for her, it's missing. And there doesn't appear to be any forced entry. So where is the book? Is it related to the death? If the police won't listen, Addie has no choice but once again to try and find a killer. But maybe this time she'll wish she hadn't...

This is the fifth book in the series, and I do believe that it might be one of the best ones. Addie has more trouble than she wants with her cousin Kalea living with her -- honestly, this woman is a royal pain and I would send her back where she came from after the things she does; but then, that's only my opinion. Addie's too nice to her. I also don't like Ryley much; she really doesn't like Addie and allows it to color her professional work. Marc should rein her in. She's unlikable.

Other than that, I did like the mystery itself. It was interesting to see Addie trying to understand if the missing book was somehow connected to the murder, even though the police had to 'follow the evidence'. True; but sometimes you need to follow your instincts, too, which is what Addie does and why she's so good at figuring things out.

I did like all the little subplots and getting to know more about Martha's past and what has made her the way she is; it's always nice when you learn about the lives of the secondary characters; and I did like the hint that we may see more of Jonathan in later books. He enchanted me, but only because I like the cloak-and-dagger history of his life.

The story is rife with twists and turns that take the reader to other area's besides Addie's life; although we do see her still struggling with certain areas of her budding relationship with Simon, but it centers more on her not wanting to see Paige hurt or even caring for the little dog in her guardianship, as it were. There were clues throughout; you just had to look for them.

When Addie starts to get closer to finding the answers she wants, it comes from an unlikely source, and that's when she puts it all together. It was a satisfying ending that left me pleased with the book and looking forward to the next in the series. Recommended.

This series just keeps getting better.

Addie is finally pretty settled in her small town. She is recovering from the Christmas rush in her little bookstore. When Addie finds a dead body outside of the bakery next door, can she help her sometimes-friend sometimes-enemy, Martha, find the murderer?

I keep enjoying these books more and more. I like Addie as a character and I love her relationship to so many people in the town. I do wish that some of the characters would act more like their age instead of like teenagers. I really liked seeing her relationship with Martha develop. The ending of this one took me completely by surprise. I feel like the reveal came out of no where and the "whodunit" was not at all what I thought.

I can't wait to read the next one!

Although not a book I would purchase in my professional role, it is one that I will be recommending in my personal life! Thank you so much for allowing me to have access to the digital arc!

A Page Marked for Murder is not the first book I’ve read in this series. I’ve enjoyed all of them, but I must say I had a hard time getting started in this one. I think it may have been the author feeling the need to give us a picture of the characters, I should say a better understanding of their personalities and background. I don’t know if that was so that this could be read as a stand-alone which it could be. I have not read Book 4. Maybe the author felt a need to catch us up after Book 4 ended.

Nonetheless, this was as enjoyable as the others I have read of this series. The author builds in interest by adding an ice festival contest event and the story revolves around that somewhat. We see quite a bit of interaction between the characters and all of it as well as the dialog was well done.

One thing I most certainly plan to do is read Book 6!

Greystone Harbor is preparing for their annual Fire and Ice Festival as the new year starts but Addie Greystone, owner of Beyond the Page bookstore, has preparations of her own to make. While standing outside in cold, looking at her empty display window, searching for inspiration, she is surprised by Pippi, a small dog who belongs to her friend Gloria, who never lets Pippi out of her sight. But where is Gloria. Crossing over to the Festival area, Addie finds that Gloria has fallen from a ladder and is injured. Martha, Gloria's friend arrives as the EMTs are taking Gloria to the hospital. Addie and Martha volunteer to get Gloria and Pippi's things from her home (Addie is recruited to dog sit) and while there, Addie notices that Gloria was reading a first edition of the Secret Garden - worth about $25,000.

When visiting Gloria the next day she asks Addie to bring the book to her so that she has something to occupy her while in the hospital. However, when Addie goes to Gloria's to pick it up, it's gone!

In the meantime, Martha has run into some trouble. Martha's daughter, Paige (Addie's assistant) is having custody issues with her daughter's father, and when he is found murdered outside Martha's bakery, Martha is the prime suspect.

Addie has to juggle Pippi's care, a murder investigation along with some romance of her own.

Such an entertaining story and very well-written!

Looking forward to seeing these characters again, hopefully soon!

4.5 stars: I enjoy reading about bookstores and libraries, and I love cozy mysteries, so this is a series that I very much enjoy and look forward to visiting with Addie Greyborne. It is winter in Greyborne Harbor, but they are all busy with the Fire and Ice festival on. Addie has her hands full in this story with not only a murder, but a missing first edition copy of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. When Addie's friends are threatened (suspects in a murder) she jumps into action. As usual, she ruffles some feathers and puts herself in some danger as she hunts down the missing book and tries to figure out who the murderer is. There was no shortage of suspects in this one. Paige, Addie's friend and co-worker and her mother are right in the middle of this one. The murder victim is someone from Paige's past and the book belonged to her (although she did not know what it was worth). I enjoy the setting of small town Greyborne Harbor. Lauren Elliott writes descriptively, so I could feel the cold weather, and see the bookstore, the town, and its quirky residents. This book gives us a look into Paige and Martha, two characters that play a large part in Addie's life. The mystery was well-plotted and developed. There were enough red herrings to keep this reader guessing and when the final reveal came, I was surprised, yet it fit. I enjoyed this one and look forward to the next Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery.
