I loved the Secret Garden! It plays a role in this latest installment of a zippy cozy series featuring Addie, who loves books and solving murders. This time out, Martha, mother of Paige who works with Addie, is discovered standing over the corpse of Paige's ex. Now, Addie has never really liked Martha and Martha never really liked the man who was the father of Paige's daughter Emma but....At the same time, Addie noticed that one of their friends owned a first edition of the Secret Garden and told Martha how much it was worth. Now it's gone missing. What's an amateur detective to do? Sleuth of course! Addie is nicely intrepid, her love interest Simon generally supportive, and her friends well drawn. You know there's going to be more to both stories but no spoilers as to how they link up. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I'm a fan of this cozy series and think you should be fine with this as a standalone.

Addie and her assistant manager Paige are decorating Addie's Beyond the Page Bookstore for the Fire and Ice Festival planned for the next week. When Gloria's dog Pippi arrives at the door, Addie is worried about Gloria. She goes to the park across the street, and finds Gloria has fallen off her ladder preparing for the festival. Gloria is taken to the hospital, and Addie becomes dog sitter and soon becomes very happy with the dog's companionship. Addie goes to Gloria's home to get some things to bring Gloria in the hospital and finds a very valuable copy of The Secret Garden which belongs to Paige and her daughter. The next day, the book is missing.

Addie helps unload Christmas trees onto the beach for burning and watches an altercation between Paige's Dad Ken and the father of her child, Brett Palmer. The day after that Addie finds Brett dead in the parking lot between her shop and Martha's bakeshop next door. Addie has a lot on her plate, and a difficult time figuring out the murderer. She is sure that the rare book has something to do about it; and what about Gloria's accident and her missing keys. There are several possible murderers, but most of them have alibis. As we near the end of the book, Addie finds the murderer, but who is going to keep her from being the next dead body?

Addison Greyborne finds her sleuthing skills split as she investigates the murder of Brett Palmer, her assistant's ex-husband, and the disappearance of a $25,000 first edition of The Secret Garden. Addie's third distraction involves taking care of Pippi, a miniature Yorkipoo, whose owner, Gloria ends up in the hospital after a fall from an unsteady ladder.

Lauren Elliott spins an engaging yarn that she skillfully weaves into a finely layered mystery complete with red herrings and a comfortable pace. In this fifth Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery, Ms. Elliott's characters continue to feel genuine, and the visit to Greyborne Harbor a pleasant and welcome respite.

It's winter and Greyborne Harbor is holding its annual Fire and Ice Festival which includes fireworks and an ice sculpting competition. When volunteer Gloria falls off a ladder and breaks her hip, bookstore owner Addie Greyborne reluctantly takes in Gloria's beloved dog Pippi. While at Gloria's house gather things for her, Addie sees a valuable copy of The Secret Garden on the nightstand.

Addie stumbles upon the murder of Brett, the estranged husband of her employee Paige, outside of Martha's bakery. Crusty Martha had many reasons to hate her son-in-law but did she kill him? And when the valuable book goes missing from Gloria's house, Addie wonders if the two crimes are related.

This was another enjoyable entry in the Beyond the Page Bookstore mystery. I received an eARC from Netgalley and Kensington Books with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.

A Page Marked for Murder by Lauren Elliott is the fifth book in this author's Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. Ms. Elliott sure does write an excellent whodunit. Her characters are well-developed and very likable. She builds up the suspense as the main character, bookstore owner and sleuth Addie Greybourne puzzles out the clues to the mystery of who the murderer is. In this book the author kept me guessing for quite a while. I haven't read all the books in this series yet but the ones I have read have been very entertaining. I look forward to reading more Beyond the Page Bookstore mysteries.

I received this arc through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Addie is once again drawn into solving a mystery when someone close to her is accused of committing the murder. I almost gave up on this series after the first couple of books, but I am glad I stuck with it. I am still not a fan of Marc and how he treats those around him, but he plays a much smaller role now that Addie is dating Simon. The story is part of a series, but could be read as a stand-alone.

Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is the 5th installment in the Beyond The Page Bookstore Mystery series. Addie Greybourne and her assistant Paige are getting the store ready for the upcoming town Fire and Ice Festival. As they are working on the window display Addie notices a crowd and learns Gloria, the volunteer event coordinator has fallen and that explains why her dog Pippi is at her store doorstep. Addie gets tapped for watching Pippi until Gloria is out of the hospital. Addie goes to Gloria’s house with Martha (Gloria’s best friend, Paige’s Mother and bakery owner next door) to get items to allow her to watch Pippi. While there, Addie sees a rare first edition of The Secret Garden on her nightstand. She learns it is Paige’s who loaned it to Gloria for their bookclub and Addie lets Martha know that it is rare and worth about twenty five thousand dollars. As Addie volunteers at some of the festival events she notices Martha arguing with some men and learns that Paige’s ex and her Father are in town. She notices Paige is upset but she is urged by Simon her boyfriend and friend Serena to just let the family work thru their issues. Addie later discovers a body in the alley behind Martha’s bakery and learns that it is the body of Paige’s ex boyfriend and the father of her daughter Emma. Martha becomes the top suspect as she had several disagreements with the victim. Addie of course does not believe that Martha is capable of murder, although she can be testy and nasty at times. Addie also discovers the rare book at Gloria’s is now missing. Can the two crimes be related.? Addie begins sleuthing as she cannot standby and let Martha be framed for murder. Simon balances Addie very well and I like their relationship. I understand the police not wanting a civilian be involved but the relationship with Marc and his new detective girlfriend is really not necessary. She is downright petty and immature. Addie’s cousin Kalea and her new relationship was an interesting side story and soon she will be a new shop owner that should prove to be interesting down the road. I enjoy this series and look forward to the next installment.

"A Page Marked for Murder" the 5th instalment in the "Beyond the Page Bookstore" Mystery series by Lauren Elliott. This is one of my favorite Bookshop cozy series.

I really enjoyed this latest instalment in the series! I liked that we had two mysteries to solve and I loved the inclusion of Pippi to Addies inner circle. I’m hoping the little fur ball will pop up again in another story.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters which are well developed.
I kept second-guessing myself on whodunnit almost to the very end but I did suspect correctly just before it was revealed. I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

I can’t wait to read "Under the Cover of Murder" book 6 in March 2021!

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love when I let go of a big sigh at the end of a book. It tells me not only did I enjoy the book but that the ending left me satisfied. I let out two with this book. That could be fitting as there are two mysteries to be solved.
In this book, the fifth in the series, someone close to Paige is found dead and Martha is a suspect. But was their death murder or an accident? Whatever the cause of death was may be the clue that determines which. With Martha looking like the best suspect, Addie needs to find out. The second mystery is a missing book. With a suspected value into the thousands, is the missing book connected to the death?
I really enjoyed this book. I love the characters. It was wonderful to see Addie become so close to Pippi. I was hoping to see her find her own fur baby by the end of the book. This story had plenty of suspects for the death as well as the book and there was the question of cause of death to keep you guessing. I’m not going to say how that all came out. You can find out when you read the book.
This is a wonderful book set in winter just after Christmas. I took two days to read it but I believe it could easily be read in one day. I would recommend some cocoa and warm scones to pair it with. A roaring fire, comfy clothes, blanket and reading buddy would complete the delight of an afternoon of reading. Enjoy!

*I was provided with an electronic copy of this book, for review consideration, by Kensington through NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed this book. My opinions are based on my enjoyment during the reading of the book.*

While this is technically a 'cozy' mystery, it's very well ordered, so that even Agatha would give it a thumbs up , fot it's plot and red herrings! What to you do when the person who used ot be your enemy is now blamed for a murder, that you found the body for? For Addie, it's not believing the obvious as she knows the poeple involved too well. But when more outsiders are added to the mix, even she has to pause. This fast paced mystery will keep you turning the pages long into the night! AND get you hookd on the series (this is book 5 in the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery)!

I was given a copy of this book for an honest feedback from NetGalley, thank you. I have read this series from the start, but somehow have skipped #4 in the series, this is #5. I would recommend that you read this series in order, as it progresses and I had some questions as to some changes that had taken place. I didn't use to like Addie as a main character, but as the series grows, her personality has changed somewhat and she seems like a friendlier person. The plot was a twisted one, but well thought out. I think it repeated itself too many times with Addie telling everyone who her suspects were, over and over again. Also, and it is a complaint of mine not just with this series...does any of the store owners ever work in their stores? It seems like they are always leaving to run "errands" and the assistant is stuck at the store. I did think that the story ended abruptly, one minute all the characters were crying about someone going to jail, and the next page they were celebrating. I had to go back and see if I had skipped a few pages, but no.

It was nice to visit with Addie and friends at her bookstore once again. These characters are like old friends that it's nice to see and I liked how there were all willing to help their friend be cleared of murder.

I thought that the mystery was well-written in a style that I enjoy. I loved how Addie related to the dog that she was caring for when her friend was in hospital. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the Fire and Ice festival as I really felt that I was in the winter season.

This is the fifth in Lauren Elliott's Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. It's the first of the series that I've read, so it can be read as a stand-alone book. Ms. Elliott puts enough context in that you can figure out some details you might have missed from earlier books.

I like a good cozy mystery, and I love a cozy mystery with a bookstore involved! The book was delightful. Addie is a likable character, as is Paige, and I enjoyed the small New England town setting. There's family drama, the theft of an unexpectedly valuable book, and a certain furry thief of hearts. It made me unreasonably happy to see how Addie warmed up to her temporary role as dog mom. It also warmed my heart to see how much she cares for the people in her life. The characters feel (mostly) like people I'd like to get to know. And the "who" in "whodunnit" came as a bit of a surprise to me! I enjoy it when I can't figure out the killer in the first few chapters.

This was the first of Ms. Elliott's works that I've read, and I look forward to reading more.

Disclaimer: I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and Kensington Books. All opinions here are mine, and I don't say nice things about books I don't like.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

"January isn't the season for the seaside, but the big Fire and Ice festival is keeping bookstore owner Addie busy. Amid the plans for a fireworks display and an ice-carving competition, she's also dog sitting for a friend in the hospital. When Addie goes to her friend's house to gather supplies, she notices an interesting item on the nightstand which belongs to her shop assistant, Paige: a very valuable copy of the beloved children's book The Secret Garden."

A murder. A missing person. A shady businessperson. Dysfunctional relatives. Irresponsible relative. A missing book. A dog.

The book was off to a wonderful start. However I was disappointed by the ending. It did not make sense to me when the killer was revealed.

Note: I received a free Advanced Copy in exchange for a honest review.

I was very grateful that Addie has grown up a little in Lauren Elliott's latest addition to her A Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. In the past I have felt as if her behavior was only a little less childish than that of her cousin Kalea. It seems now she is on more solid ground as her relationships improve and she is more selfless. I figured out the one responsible for the murder midway through the book, but was surprised by the detail revealed in the end. There are a lot of unanswered questions in the ending, more like gently hints of more to come. I look forward to the continuing adventures, particularly Serena's wedding.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This is the fifth in the series Beyond the page bookstore mystery. Although there are several references to previous installments in this novel it is still a stand alone story. In this installment Addie, the owner of the Beyond the Page bookstore finds the body of her employee's ex boyfriend and Father of her daughter. When all the evidence points to Paige's estranged Father and her Mother Martha. Martha is the owner of the next store bakery. Addie decides to investigate on her own to help her friends.

Complicating the investigation is her previous romantic relationship with the local Police chief. He doesn't welcome her help or attempts at a friendship. The retired FBI agent currently working at the police station is also a complication on both fronts. She is doing her best to keep Addie away from the Chief.

There is a subplot a rare first edition book is missing and the person who had possession of the book is injured in a strange manner. Do the two events have anything to do with the other. Addie puts her efforts on both events doing her best to unravel the clues.

Addie is kept distracted by Simon her current boyfriend and the problems her cousin is causing at Addie's business and in her personal life. She must determine how to proceed with her cousin and work on putting up boundaries.

I love stories that have book references in them. This one delivers in spades.
