Another great read by Carlene O'Connor. I really enjoy The Irish Village Series and was delighted to get a chance to read book 6. I liked that this book took us to a new place and we got to meet many more people. I always look forward to this series and Carlene O'Connor didn't disappoint with this one.

A Christmas cozy mystery set in Ireland in which Garda Siobhán O'Sullivan's holiday isn't going as she had hoped. This one is a little slower paced that previous ones in the series, and that just may because of the Christmas setting. But it was till an enjoyable installment of the Irish village mystery series.

I absolutely adore Carlene O'Connor's Irish Village Mystery series, and 'Murder at an Irish Christmas' is an exceptional addition. The O'Sullivan clan goes on holiday to spend Christmas in the west coast of Ireland with the family of James's fiancee, Elise. As they arrive they find the renown musician grandfather of Elise dead. Fortunately Macdara and his mother join Siobhan and what follows is a completely satisfying mystery set in the backdrop an orchestral musical. Some of Carlene O'Connor's words are so lyrical that I highlighted and saved them. I was very surprised at the outcome, and happily see the possibility for much more to come. I highly recommend you get the entire series and enjoy!

I hated to put down Murder at an Irish Christmas by Carlene O'Connor. Thank you Netgalley for the book in exchange for an honest review. We first find Siobhan outside the old whiskey mill with her siblings and a group of musicians. It's a week before Christmas and her brother James gets engaged. There's to be a party, but the group has to wait for the keys. They discover a dead body under a harp inside. Siobhan, who's also a Garda, helps find the killer. She works with Garda MacDara, who comes to help with the investigation. All this goes on with a Christmas Eve concert. There are many suspects. This is a great book.

The O'Sullivans are meeting the future in-laws for Christmas but a murder may put a damper on their plans as they try and solve the crime. I enjoyed this cozy mystery and if like ones set in Ireland you will enjoy this book.

Siobhán O'Sullivan is the oldest of six children who has taken over their care after losing their parents. She works hard at her job as an officer in the Irish Garda and she has promised her siblings that their time in West Cork to celebrate Christmas will be all about family. Her plans get derailed when a famous conductor is found murdered just days before his Christmas concert.

This story was the 6th in a series and it felt like it. I have not read any of the previous books but I think it would have been helpful and less confusing in the beginning. With a slow start it was only about half way through that I got into the mystery. The end definitely was a twist I didn't see coming!

If you're looking for a cozy mystery without any gory details then this is a book for you!

This is Book #6 in the Irish Village Mystery series. It's a wonderful read as a stand alone but reading it in order makes the different relationships more interesting to follow. The series follows the lives of the 'Sullivan Six' - James, Siobhán, Eoin, Gráinne, Ann and Ciarán. After their parents were killed four years ago by a drunk driver Siobhán - as the oldest daughter - abandoned her plans for college to take care of her siblings and run the family bistro in Kilbane, Ireland. She also became a Garda and quickly rose through the ranks. She outranks her fiancé Detective Sergeant Macdara Flannery.

This Christmas the family have travelled to a small village in West Cork to visit with family and friends. James O'Sullivan is engaged to Elise Elliot and her grandfather Enda Elliot a renowned conductor is set to give a Christmas Eve concert in an Old Whiskey Mill. As everyone arrives at the mill one morning a week before Christmas, they discover a body. The Gardai in the town are convinced that they have the case solved but Siobhán doesn't think it's that simple. There are plenty of suspects - Enda's second wife Faye, who is wheelchair bound after and accident. His third wife Leah is 40 years his junior. His daughter Moira and her children Elise, Paul and Orla. Catherine Healy lives on the property owned by the Elliots with her boyfriend Theodore Baskins and he seems to be everyone's favourite suspect.

Even though she has no jurisdiction in West Cork, Siobhán pursues the case because she is sure that a killer is going to get away with murder. She puts her life on the line to figure out what is going on in this musical family.

A wonderful addition to the series and I'm hoping there will be another book soon. A lovely treat at the end is a recipe for Irish Brown Bread.

I absolutely adore these cozy mysteries by Carlene O'Connor set in Ireland. Each one is better than the last and this one is no exception.

Cozy mysteries always take place in small towns and one often wonders how a town or village can be so idyllic when murders keep occurring. I'm glad to see Ms. O'Connor take Siobhán and her brood out of her village visiting another. It gives the reader a whole new place to read about and to envision the lovely countryside by the descriptions the author gives.

Every book she writes has new characters that are involved in the telling of the murder and this one seemed to have more than most. That didn't stop the author from making each character alive. The details she gives are never too much, but oh, just the right amount to make the reader continually guess about what's going to happen. The story was woven so well that it had me guessing right up until the very end when the killer is revealed.

Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this mystery series and this book in particular. I am especially grateful to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for providing me with a free copy in exchange for my honest review. I love this entire series because the author does such a good job of entwining all the clues and making everything come together at the end. Brilliant! Now, I can't wait for book #7 and wonder how in the world Ms. O'Connor is going to top this! But, please---don't stop!

Although it is the next in a series involving the same characters, I found it to be stand alone since there wasn't references to previous situations that I wouldn't have known about from previous books. This is an easy reading thriller that is difficult to put down until you find out how it ends.

Siobahn is hoping to spend a quiet Christmas with family when she is thrown into the middle of a murder. She can't force herself to leave the investigating to the police and sets about hunting for a killer. The setting in County Cork, Ireland is interesting and endearing along with characters that come to life quickly. I thought I had everything figured out for who committed the crime, but this story also came with a hidden solution to who did it.

I would recommend this book to a friend and I am also interested in exploring more books by Carlene O'Connor.

Yuletide For The O’Sullivans.....
Book six in the Irish Village Mystery series and it’s Yuletide for the O’Sullivans. This year the whole family decamp to West Cork to spend the festive season with more family. The festivities are curtailed, however, when murder rears its ugly head. Enjoyable mystery with a likeable protagonist and a colourful cast of supporting characters, both warm and empathetic. Descriptions are vivid and credible and storytelling so entertaining. A worthy addition to the series.

Garda Siobhan O’Sullivan and her entire family are heading to West Cork at Christmastime to meet brother James’ fiancee’s family and attend a special Christmas concert. After some uncomfortable introductions and settling in to their accommodations, they discover that their normal family traditions with be disrupted by the other family’s schedule of events. When they go to decorate the concert venue, a grisly scene is discovered, and Siobhan kicks into police mode, but is quickly sidelined by the local police force.

When Siobahn’s partner (as both policeman and love interest), Macdara Flannery, arrives on the scene, they end up in charge of the investigation and must unravel the lies and misdirection by all of the families involved. When several people have motives and a lack of an alibi, they alternate investigating and Christmas shopping as they search for a murderer.

Being part of a series, this book continues the story of Siobahn and Macdara as well as telling a nice murder mystery in a delightful setting.

I was so excited to be approved for the advanced reading copy of Murder at an Irish Christmas by Carlene O'Connor, this series is a true favorite of mine and a blessing to read, when one is stuck where they are, unable to travel due to world events and looking for a wonderful escape for a few hours. On the hottest summer day here, I was transported to a cold and snowy, Irish village at Christmas time and it was a divine read. I love the main character so much and find her so relatable, as an orphan myself, from a large family it was an instant admiration for the sacrifices and struggles Siobhán O'Sullivan’s and her family face.

This is the sixth book in the series and I have enjoyed each one but there is something special about this one that truly left a warm and cozy feeling in my heart. I hope that you will also enjoy the series and think about pre ordering Murder at an Irish Christmas, which is out this October.

This is my first book of this series and also this author Carlene O'Connor. It's a well written, edge of your seat murder mystery. There are a lot of character's but it doesn't take long to figure out who is who. It kept me guessing right up to the end. Now to go find the others in the series

This is a fine cozy mystery set in an interesting local. The dynamics between the main character and the family of her brother's fiancé didn't feel authentic, and with such a large cast of characters there wasn't much development leaving them feeling flat.

This is the 6th in the Irish Village series. Siobhan O’Sullivan and her family are not spending Christmas in her village of Kilbane but on the west coast of Ireland at the family of her brother James fiancé Elise. Elise’s family is musical and her Grandfather is a famous conductor who is married to a much younger woman. Siobhan is happy for James but Elise’s family is a little complicated and when Enda (Elise’s Grandfather) is found dead under a very heavy harp the question on Siobhan’s mind is it an accident or murder. Mac her fiancé and his Mother join the group and with a snowstorm thrown in makes this a tricky case to solve while keeping the peace within the family. This series just continues to get better and remains fresh and current with a twist of a locked or closed room murder. I enjoyed the mystery and the description of this area of Ireland. I recommend and look forward to the next in the series.

Murder at an Irish Christmas is the sixth novel in the Irish Village Mystery series and finds Siobhán O'Sullivan and the O’Sullivan Six visiting James’ soon-to-be in-laws for Christmas in West Cork. James’ fiancée, Elise, isn’t especially helpful when her grandfather turns up murdered, and even though it’s not in her jurisdiction, Siobhán gets involved in the investigation and doesn’t totally trust Elise because Elise isn’t honest in several instances. There are several other good suspects, however, and since Macdara, Siobhán’s fiancée, is spending time with his Mam and won’t be there to help her until the end of the trip, Siobhán is on her own.

The Irish cozy novels in this series are absolutely delightful; O’Connor captures the ambiance of Ireland, and readers almost feel they are actually there. The characters are well-developed, most are likeable (except the murderers, of course), and the O’Sullivan family is similar to our own families, i.e., one of the younger boys pees on a Christmas tree in the back of the symphony hall and gets in trouble by the owner – typical behavior of a little boy. The story flows and keeps the interest of readers. O’Connor is an excellent storyteller and after reading this novel, will be impatiently waiting for the next installment.

Since the first installment, I’ve wanted the recipe for Siobhán’s famous brown bread, since it’s mentioned in all the novels, and those of us who cook want to actually taste it; this installment is a breakthrough for me because it actually includes that recipe. Even though this novel is fun and a fast read, it’s worth it just to get the recipe.

Reading the latest title in this series was like coming home again. Even though the setting was away from the usual, it is Christmas time, and the siblings are all together visiting their oldest brother’s fiancee’s family. Before you know it, there is a dead body, and Siobhan is off and away with her curiosity getting the better of her., despite having no professional standing as a guard with the local police. I loved the setting, and the backdrop of winter and an imminent Christmas. There are plenty of suspects and red herrings to keep the reader satisfied until all is finally revealed.
