The cover is lovely and the story is funny, a mystery and romantic. This is part of a series and is book two in the series. It can be read as a standalone but it would be clearer if you read the series. I love it either way. Lady Juliet Lilbourne had been summoned to Connaught Place at the request of the princess. Four had been called. When they arrived all kinds of undesirable people and even some lords. They hid in the room next to her highness's room. They stayed hidden until it got quiet and then ran to her betrothed house. They were up unusually early. They knew about the scandal and proceeded to kick her out. Jeremy came into a parlor and broke their engagement and asked her to leave. She had 10 guineas in her reticule. She had never taken public transportation. she gets to the inn where the stage stops, this big hairy dog jumps on her and begins to wag his tail while looking for pets.
Daniel Stewart helps her get on the coach and he and his dog climb the side to get on top and sit. He has been summoned by his grandfather and he was on his way. Since they were both going to the same town they helped each other. Dan was handsome, tall, and. He was also gentle, kind, And handsome. He was the grandson of Lord
Myerly, who lived next door.
There was so much going on in this tale. Betrothed and not, single and not, getting shot at. There is a lot of mystery and emotions and reactions. A sweet and engaging book. I loved the interactions between both families and nonfamily members.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Lady Juliet & three other ladies in waiting have been ruined after unknowingly been in a house where an orgy was held, they all flee. Juliet goes to her betrothed’s home but is thrown out so she has no choice but to take the stagecoach home to her family in Yorkshire. Fortunately, she is protected on the journey by a handsome and amusing self-styled “wastrel”.
Daniel Stewart - together with his enormous, unruly mongrel dog Gun - is reluctantly answering a summons to his grandfather’s deathbed. But instead of the prodigal’s traditional fatted calf, he is presented with the miserly baron’s temper and a parcel of resentful relatives. Juliet faces recrimination and isolation in her own home. It isn’t surprising that Dan and Juliet seek solace in secret meetings to cheer each other up. Neither expects to fall in love.
A lovely read which I read in two sittings, this is the second book in the series, it could easily be read on its own. I loved Juliet who had been ruined through no fault of her own but shows she has backbone by travelling home & then not wilting under her parents’ displeasure. I adored Dan who didn't suffer fools at all & spoke his mind. He also went out of his way to help the tenants on his grandfather’s estate. He was also a good friend to Juliet. The journey to their HEA was well written & made for an engrossing read. The villain has been thwarted again but there are still two young woman he has his eye on
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

In our second book from this series, another lady in waiting has to face the consequences of her night protecting the princes and the deception that occurred. She is ruined after her fiance tosses her out. A stagecoach journey with dog named Gun and his master, Daniel Stewart, a self-proclaimed wastrel, leads to an unexpected friendship. The author leads us through a life journey for both Juliet and Daniel as they discover themselves, fall in love and solve a mystery.

Now ruined, what future awaits her ...

Gun ... fire !

If I liked the first installment, I just loved this sequel, between the hero and his amped up mutt, it was such an enjoyable read.
Daniel is such a amusing and kind fellow, thinking about the others before himself even if he does not renege on his own pleasure. I just adored him. He does not compromise and wealth has no weight on him. He goes where the wind blows.
Juliet was set up with three friends to be ruined, so much her betrothed ended their engagement. So on her way to go home, she meets a young man whose appearance is far from her usual sphere but is a gentleman at heart.
While Dan feels protectiveness close to Juliet, their relationship evolves quickly from mere acquaintance to companionship then trusting friendship.
I loved to follow them as they get to know one another, confiding their dreams and mistakes, how Dan has a very personal view of life and does not let bumps and holes impede his mood.
His family is quite unique and fun to observe.

A very charming and witty 5 stars read.
I was granted an advance copy by the publisher Dragonblade Publishing, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

This is Book Two of the series Season of Scandal by Mary Lancaster, although it can be read as a standalone book, I very much enjoyed Book One, Pursued by the Rake, which was published earlier this year.

This book tells the story of the second of the four ladies-in-waiting to Princess Caroline, the Prince Regent's estranged wife. Someone has a plan to harm all four women by luring them to the Princess's residence during an orgy only to have them "discovered" there alone, without a chaperone, thus ruining them and their families.

The author of this plan failed at his attempt to ruin, Hazel, the heroine of Book One in the series. He now attempts to ruin Juliet Lilbourne. Juliet, in the process of escaping London and the scandal, meets Dan Stewart. He is such a poor, but pleasant, genuinely kind, and gallant young man. Dan is funny and seemingly carefree, but he has an innate sense of responsibility and deeply cares for people in need.

Juliet is also a kind young woman who in spite of the injustice of her circumstances,
behaves in a gracious manner, understanding the consequences of her ruin to her beloved family. She tries very hard to shield them from her ruin, thus turning to Dan for solace.

Dan and Juliet become good friends before they even realize they are in love with each other. Their adventures are humorous, especially when Dan's dog, Gun, is around. Although I was very happy that they earned their HEA, I wished there was a little more angst in their relationship.

Mary Lancaster never fails to deliver a unique, fun, adventure-filled story with lots of fun (and funny) characters. I read every one of her books and love them all.

I hope that, Diana and William, from Fed to the Lyon, make an appearance in one of the upcoming books from this series. I loved their story as well and they are tied this conspiracy as well.

Mary Lancaster writes charming romances that I really enjoy and leave me with a smile on my face. I'm glad she's a prolific writer.

This book is the second in her "Season of Scandal" series in which four of the Princess's ladies in waiting are tricked into being in attendance at the Princess's quarters while an orgy is going on below. News gets out and the ladies are effectively ruined.

Our heroine Lady Juliet is jilted as a result and forced to leave her fiance's parents' house with hardly any money. She's forced to take a common mail coach home to her parents and on that journey Dan Stewart comes to her rescue after she rescues his extremely huge, overly friendly dog from the porter at the Inn. They discover they are journeying to neighboring estates.

Once home, Juliet is forced to hide when visitors arrive and is bored and feeling shunned. Dan is at his grandfather's along with his aunts and cousins who are fighting over who will be named heir. Dan and Juliet start meeting in the early mornings and get to know each better and fall in love. Their conversations are witty.

There's a villain and a possible murder and family dynamics which makes for an interesting read.

I received an ARC from the publisher but any opinions expressed are my own.

Mary Lancaster writes such sweet books! I loved the character of Dan Stewart, a happy go lucky guy, wastrel grandson of the earl. He meets up with Juliet as she is escaping London after being accused of a sordid story in a gossip rag. Her engagement is broken and she is alone. Dan comes to her rescue time and time again. Really enjoyed their interaction as their love grew! This is second in the series but can be read as a stand alone.

Abandoned to the Prodigal is the second book in the Season of Scandal series. The series is based on four ladies-in-waiting to the Princess of Wales being tricked into spending the night at the Princess’s residence when she wasn’t there, but their reputations are ruined when news spread that a wild party had occurred.
Lady Juliet’s fiancé breaks up with her and she has nowhere to go except home to Yorkshire. She has little money and no experience traveling by stagecoach. She finally reaches home and discovers her sister is engaged. For her engagement to be successful, Juliet must stay out of sight and at home. Meeting her friend Daniel is the only way she can maintain her cheerfulness.
Daniel Stewart has been summoned home by his grumpy grandfather. He meets Juliet at the inn and helps her during their stagecoach ride to Yorkshire. Arriving at his grandfathers he discovers his annoyed cousins and aunts. The only good thing happening during his visit is meeting Juliet secretly. Can Juliet’s reputation be saved, and will they have a future together?
It was well written and so heartwarming. The characters were charming and easy to love. It had an interesting plot and grabbed my attention from the beginning. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. The mystery of why they were chosen to be ruined still needs to be answered.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

💋💋

Mary Lancaster never seems to write a bad book, every one is unique and satisfying to read.

Really enjoying this series.
When the maid servants to the princess are left in a ruinous situation, not of their own making but because of a plot against them , they must find some way of getting back to their families, hopefully reducing the risk of anyone finding out.

The young ladies involved must accept help from men they would never normally mix with, but can they discover who wants to harm them before its to late for them all.

Juliet meets Dan in this second book ,and when both of them feel at their lowest ,they realise they have each other and the chemistry flows.

Loved the book . Looking forward to reading number three.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Lady Juliet is one of the four ladies whose reputation is in peril by a vicious Lord taking revenge on their families. Turned away by her fiance and his family, Lady Juliet must leave London to go home, but she has little money. Taking the coach she meets a charming young man and his mongrel dog named Gun. Becoming friends they end up arriving at adjoining estates. Several complications include an ex-fiance, the villain behind the slander, an aging manipulative grandfather and a possible murderer. A very charming hero comes to a young lady's rescue. A sweet romance. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

4 stars

I liked this story. I haven't read the first in the series but I will probably get it. Four young ladies are deceived and put in a position where society may deem them ruined. Juliet realising her dire situation returns to her fiancees house only to have him and his mother reject her, So she decides to return to her mother and goes to the coaching inn to find a way home. It's here that she meets our hero, an unusual young man who's own mother was deemed to have ruined herself by eloping with his soldier father. Daniel was quirky and funny and I liked the interaction between the two. The Romance was not forced by evolved gradually. I'm pleased that they got their HEA. The villain is a bit odd and I don't think the smartest man. Hopefully by the end he will get his comeupance!

I like Mary Lancaster's writing and recommend this story to you.

There is a nasty man who has deliberately set out to ruin four innocent young ladies. They have no idea who or why.

Lady Juliette thought she could count on someone, but he let her down badly. Now she must find her way home to her family.

Daniel Stewart has been summoned by his estranged grandfather to his deathbed. He has no intention of playing his grandfather's game. He is quite happy with his life and his friends, human and canine.

Our characters will learn who they can and can't count on.

It's a very amusing story with lovely characters. It is obviously part of a series that is best read in order, but each book could be read on it's own.

Great fun.

Abandoned to the Prodigal by Mary Lancaster
I can tell tell you the synopsis and the characters, but you will have already read that in the blurb, by this point you want to know is this book worth clicking to read, right.? Then I would tell you click that read button because this author has ticked all the buttons! Mystery, greed, jealousy, romance, evil, even an attempting murder and an grumpy old man who is just plain lonely and sorry for past decisions but afraid to admit them! But, she has weaved it all so intricately so that the characters flow and their dynamics work . The three characters that are mainly portrayed who bring it all together are the cohesive knot that the author brings to life. Usually these kinds of stories I get bored with or just want to hurry and be done because I think I know what it is going to happen. In this particular case, nope, the author has done it she has successfully written a masterpiece of a book that not only has kept my interest throughout, but has surprised me on a couple twists! This book will keep you reading just because you want to know what will happen next and who is going to get in trouble or be involved in some type of plot or adventure! I am eagerly now waiting for the next book to see how she continues the success of her series!

When Juliet is invited to a private party for the Princess of Wales, or so she thought, he reputation becomes ruined as the “party” makes the scandal sheets early the next morning. She runs to her fiancé's home so he and his family can protect her. Unfortunately, they refuse to see her and her fiancé, Jeremy, breaks off the engagement. Having to find her way home she books a stage and meets Daniel who is headed to a nearby estate from her parents. Daniel has been summoned by his grandfather who he hasn’t always gotten along with.

Juliet and Daniel secretly begin seeing each other every morning and fall in love. When Juliet’s father arranges for her to either take Jeremy back or marry the man responsible for setting her up at the party, Juliet runs to Daniel for help.

The story was a quick and enjoyable read. Daniel and Juliet are a great couple and you can’t help rooting for them.

First book read by Mrs. Lancaster. Second book in series.
I will have to go back and read first one before I read the others when they come out.
Enjoyed the human characters, and Gun. Gun was funny.
A bit of scandal and mystery.

For me, this was one of those books that I wanted to like but couldn’t get into. The premise of the story on how Juliet was “ruined” was different so I was hoping the rest of the book would be too.

One thing I really liked was the friendship. I like when the heroine of a story has genuine friends, it’s not just her and her romantic interest. But honestly, I just couldn’t get into the book. I didn’t feel there was a lot of depth to the characters and I ultimately just couldn’t connect with them.

That being said, someone else who likes Regency romances might like this more than I did.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

Running alongside the previous book in the series, Abandoned to the Prodigal sees Lady Juliet Lilbourne having to flee Connaught House after the infamous orgy, hoping her betrothed, Jeremy Catesby, and his family will provide her with an alibi for where she was. When she turns up at the Alford's, however, they've already received the gossip rag that is the key to her ruin, and refuse to let her in the house. All alone, Juliet knows that with the little money she has left, she needs to get home to her family's estate in Kidfield, Yorkshire. While buying a ticket for the stagecoach, she is nearly ripped off, if not for the intervention of a handsome stranger and his dog, Gun. Dan Stewart is heading to Kidfield, too, as his grandfather has called for the whole family to travel to the Myerly estate before he dies. Dan has never seen eye to eye with his grandfather, not since he kicked out his mother for marrying his father and refuses to see or help her. However, while at the estate, he and his grandfather make a tentative agreement, and Dan starts to become involved in improving the estate that has been left to rot somewhat. Juliet is hidden at home, to counteract the scandal, but meets up regularly with Dan and Gun and sparks begin to fly. Her father is adamant she marry soon, hopefully to Jeremy, or even Lord Barden who unexpectedly arrives, but she knows it's Dan she wants - but will the families overcome their past grievances to let them marry?

I honestly think I enjoyed this one more that I had Pursued by the Rake. Juliet was a lovely character, and I really felt for her throughout the entire story. Being the daughter of an earl, she had no real need to work with the Princess of Wales, but the prestige of the position, especially as she was preparing to marry, but she really enjoyed her position. Finding herself shunned by her betrothed's family, and even by her own family when she made it back to Yorkshire. The way she was treated by her parents was awful, I thought, but I did sort of understand why they did it. Her only saving grace were her siblings, especially Kitty's excitement about her own engagement, and meeting with Dan every morning. Her family and Dan's have been at odds since before either of them were born, because Juliet's dad had been betrothed to Dan's mam, but she ran off with an army officer. Now, it seems that Juliet will be the person being forced to marry, and when Lord Barden, who is still as evil and slimy as he was in book 1 appears, he neigh on blackmail's the Earl of Cosland for Juliet's hand, it gets too much for her. I loved how she and Dan were so in tune with each other and their every interaction was perfect. They are one of the best regency era couples I've read, and I was so happy with how their story turned out - even with the angst that was inevitably thrown their way. I can't wait for the third instalment!
