4.5 stars I read book 2 in this series first, but as a lot of the healing and fallout from this book is handled there, I knew I had to circle back and read Allie's story. I'm really glad I did. It's heavy in spots not just to do with what happened to Allie, but there's a content warning at the beginning advising which chapters to avoid or skim, so that's appreciated. I was hooked on this and this whole group dynamic so much I'm already half way through book 3. I would say this is billed as an enemies to lovers romance and I wouldn't exactly say that's true, but it is a really strong romance and a fantastic story overall. Highly enjoyed and I'm really on the lookout for whatever else this author brings out in this world.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC.

This is a New Adult Bully Romance. I’m in my 30s and I’m wondering are high school kids really this far out and sexual? I think I prefer college romances.

The writing is decent, although at times rushed. There are so many emotional tugs going on here.

I really enjoyed this! Wicked Devil was easy to read, mostly with short chapters which makes it simple to always read just one more chapter. Allie

I really liked the characters in this book, but I do think that it would have been even better with some more background story, especially on Allie’s (the FMC) father.

I’ve read a lot of sports romance and this was different in the way that it is a bully sports romance, and it touches on quite a few darker themes. So check your trigger warnings if you decide to read this. I really enjoyed this and will be reading the next books in the series.

Bully romances are either hit or miss for me but this one was a definite hit for me, I absolutely loved it. I loved Allie and how strong she was, Allie and Roman’s chemistry pulls you in right from the start. I would highly recommed this one.

the dedication: for the survivors. okay.. not going to lie this combined with the kind of aggressive (but very vague!!) “before you begin” “trigger warning” gave me an ick before I started 😥
the cover: cute YA version of a typical romance cover
FMC: Allie- after the death of her mother, Allie moves in with her biological father and into a world of a completely different class. Being the new girl in school is never easy, but when the most popular guy in school singles you out on your first day and paints a target on your back it’s a lot more difficult. This is classified as a “dark, bully enemies-to-lover romance” and it is for the most part. It’s definitely dark, there’s a lot of bullying, but they ended up getting together pretty quickly for me to fully consider it an enemies-to-lovers book.
MMC: Roman- Sun Valley High’s resident bad boy, senior, and football player doesn’t do relationships, but once he lays eyes on Allie he’s determined to play as many mind games as he can and claim her. He’s instantly obsessed with her and makes sure everyone knows to keep their space from her. He is definitely morally grey and he would’ve been great but the miscommunication/single-minded “it’s my way or the highway attitude” left such a bad taste in my mouth. The groveling that was needed though? Well done 👏 but could’ve gone bigger LOL
POV: 1st person, dual POV
HEA: yes
spice: several open-door spicy scenes including 1 graphic and triggering SA scene
TWs: classism, racism, racial profiling (police involvement), house fire, death of a parent, absent parent, mental manipulation, slut shaming, graphic rape scene, victim blaming, PTSD, depression, suicidal thoughts, mental illness
standalone?: book 1 of Devils of Sun Valley High series
final thoughts: this was a wild ride. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great since I felt like I was reading a Wattpad/fanfic story most of the time. There were parts I liked- the beginning, the side characters (I really loved Dom and Emilio), the ending, the inclusion of an epilogue but and the second epilogue (though it didn’t feel necessary as an epilogue? I know it’s book 1 of a series so they needed to introduce the next “couple” … but it just felt like either this book’s natural ending or the prequel to the second book? Idk) o

read this book if you love

Gutted!
I know I'm not the YA target audience for this book (far from it) but I loved this story!
Allie has been dealt several life-changing blows to her world all within a few months: Her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend then broke up with her, her mother died on the same day, she is shipped off to her uber-rich biological father - who she's never met - in a town two hours away. She just wanted to keep her head down and finish her senior year but that was no longer possible when she catches the eye of the star football player which also means she catches hate from all the jealous mean girls. Mean girls that terrorize her mentally and physically.
Just when things start looking up for her she is assaulted in the worst way a woman can be. Traumatizing for a grown woman let alone a 17 year old girl. The aftermath and the attempt at recovery and her one day at a time therapy gutted me. I cried the whole second half of the book. Literal tears down my face. Eventually my tears turned to a little more positive ones.
I could not put this down, next thing I knew I was reading the epilogue...and it was also after midnight. Don't start this book too late in the day, you won't be able to stop.

4.5 Stars

Damn. Just damn. Wicked Devil is one hell of a read.

At first, I didn't know what I thought. The guys are over the top and everything is just too much for me. I almost put it down.

Until...until the moment that changes everything.

And then I couldn't put it down.

Omg, every single moment of the aftermath is intense and all consuming.

Basically, just read and keep reading. You won't regret it.

Of course, know that this story contains rape, and avoid if that's a trigger.

But if you're able to read, do so. This is an intense high school romance full of strong male characters who have intense emotions and beautiful hearts. It's a story with grief and being unwillingly thrown into a new life and lifestyle. And it's a story of healing.

Wicked Devil. I thought it was really great that it had disclaimers in the beginning as I know some things are triggering for some and even though I knew triggers were coming I was not expecting them so hard and so quick one after the other. This book dealt with a lot of issues and there was a bit of possessiveness as well. I really couldn’t put it down every chance I got I would pick this book up and read as much as I could. The characters were real and raw and very relatable and sometimes familiar. They could have been any teenager you see walking down the street and you would have no idea what is going on with them. This really made me think and wonder about what this world is coming to and the hardships we all have to deal with, as well as how we are dealing with them.
There was also a lot of passion and heat throughout this book, but I feel like even though it was there it was more of a backburner to what really mattered most. This book was a great read, quick, hard and intriguing.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The first thing I will say is I feel like the trauma with what happened was handled very well. Even though there was a warning, that was still very hard to read. What irritated me was he lack of anger towards her bio dad. I’m surprised she would even want to stay there when the whole situation was his fault. I also feel like the relationship stuff was too fast for my personal taste. I like a little more slow burn. I was VERY relieved that Aaron actually is a decent guy and he wasn’t the cliched “nice guy” who isn’t really a nice guy and tried to take advantage of her which is what predictably happens in a lot of books. I could’ve just used…more. More relationship build up, more tension in the beginning, more anger towards her dad. Otherwise I did like the storyline and plot. I know more will come with the other books.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great book from one of my favorite authors. Highly recommend to friends and family.

Sports romance with some twists, drama, and storyline that I would never have expected. Loved the growth that both Roman and Allie had throughout the whole book. Fantastic mental health representation and many issue were very well addressed. The father and his assistant majorly suck. Found family at its best!!
Fantastic read. Highly recommend. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I read it and how much I enjoyed it.

I am not a fan of bully romance to be honest but I was very excited to read something along the lines of high school drama quiet lately and this was good. I had a bit of hard time getting into it at first, for the main reason that it felt super cheesy and not realistic. However, after finishing it, I think it was a intriguing read and cured me out of my reading slump.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, provided by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was shocked that I enjoyed this book as much as I did. Although I shouldn't be shocked, based on my reaction when I read The Savage by the same author. I am not a huge fan of bull romances, but I would never begrudge someone their favorite trope. Every once in a while, I like a good redemption, a good grovel, a good mean love story. And this was all three.

Roman is just absolutely abysmal to Allie in the beginning. Like full out mean. Painted a target on her back, pretty much advertised "Hey come beat this girl up!" But then he decided he liked her, but he didn't know how to express it. Being a stubborn male is definitely Ro's worst trait. But once Ro decided Allie was his girl, all bets were off. He and his crew would protect her.

One thing I will say: these kids have an awful lot of sex for being in high school. And actually a lot of sex IN the school building. Those parts made me flinch a little, as I have a son who's a senior in high school. I mean I'm not dumb. Teenagers have sex. Teenagers have parties. It is what it is.

One thing I definitely question is Allie's dad. What does he do? Why is he so prominent. Why wasn't Allie important to him? Why did he even want her to live with him in the first place if he wasn't going to really take care of her?

I'll definitely read the rest of the series, as I liked all the side characters.

I think this is the first book I've read in a while, if not the first book, where I've written a review for that has nothing positive to say.

It reads like a 2010 Wattapad novel, especially in the beginning. If the this book had been set in college instead of high school, I think I could be a lot more forgiving of the characters actions. But this book is no where close to accurately portraying high school students. They just don't do this kind of stuff. The NA genre is for 18+ but the characters themselves aren't even 18, which I don't get.

There's also an amazing amount of plot holes and large inconsistencies that I don't understand how this made it past editing. Was there an editor that looked this book over? There was a whole chapter that stated one character as the POV, but when I started reading the chapter it was actually a different character's POV. I've read fanfictions with better plot than this book.

Overall, would not recommend. In serious need of an editor and a rewrite.

I just finished reading this on my kindle and holy shit this book is so addictive!! I can’t stop scrolling and it kept me entertained and not only that it also talk about lots of issues and I really like how the author describes the struggle that allie face and how she started to gain her strength back!! So many emotions on play here, definitely recommended this book for people that are looking something fun but also meaningful

This book is full of triggers. Bully romance is a bit of a sore spot for me, I read it because I was intrigued and I enjoyed reading. The story was engaging and well written, character development was good. Main characters are flawed and dealing with their own issues.

Definitely devilish

Wicked boys and their toys...
I get it. He's hotter than hot. Papí definitely has the goodsand can back being cocky and arrogant. Not just on the football field. These Devils know how to play. Enter the girl who is really a queen...

This chess match becomes more than Roman bargained for and far more entertaining.

Romero doesn't hide the bad. There are definitely some sensitive topics covered. It's done well. Terrifying and horrifying but true to the nature of the acts.

But don't worry these smirking devils are all about fun.
