I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great book from one of my favorite authors. Highly recommend to friends and family.

Witches have nice grandfathers who give them recipe books it seems, who give them jewels too, and sometimes they are wizards too, but meeting the boyfriends’ family is an whole ‘nother matter.. But still, you take a pie don’t you? Especially one made from Grandpa’s recipe book.
And it isn’t good when Iman finds that her boyfriend’s sisters are witches too and want something she has that Grandpa gave her, and no, it isn’t the recipe book.
Iman hadn’t expected this as Troy is a normal and she had thought all his family were too, unlike hers – after all Grandpa was chief wizard (see Book 1 for details of their romance).
It is a short book - but part of a set of 5 – only 40 print pages – thus good for young adults who prefer not to read complicated story lines. Consider all 5 as one book in reality. This is book 2 in the series which is easy enough to enter as a standalone.
The writing is light and moves along at a good pace with short chapters, a magical battle and enchanted objects. The ending could leave you wanting more – and if you want it enough there are 3 more to read.. I wasn’t bothered.

It was not what I expected, the cover called me a lot since it is a witch and I like those stories a lot! I realized that it was the second part, it is a lot of history for such a short book!

Nice theme and ist seemed to be an interesting Book. But it has only a few chapters so it is more like a short story.

This is the second book in the “Iman’s Journal” series, a series all about a young wizard named Iman. This book takes place a few years after the first book ends. I found my self really enjoying this book a lot more than the first. In the first chapter of this book, we find out that Iman and Troy are living together and Iman is about to meet Troy’s family for the first time. I felt like their relationship was rushed in book one but I really like where it went in the second book. I did find one problem with the story though, when Iman meets his family her, and Troy say rude things about Troy’s siblings weights. They accuse the sister of not eating much and then say that the brother doesn’t need to eat as much. I had the same problem in the first book when Iman fat shamed her roommate. I definitely found her a lot more bearable in this book though. This book was a lot more action packed than the first book as well, we find out that Troy’s step mother is a witch who is trying to take over the world and she steals Iman’s Red Crystal. I was engaged during the whole fight scene and was very interested with where it went. In the end of the book, after Iman kills Emilia and her sisters, Troy’s Birth Mother is brought back to life like she was never dead and it leaves Troy in a bit of a confused mindset. Iman then casts a spell on Troy so that he forgets everything magical that has happened to him, Including Iman. The only thing I didn’t like about this was that as soon as she casts the spell she wants to reverse it because she is jealous that he’s talking to another girl. Book Two was definitely an improvement from Book One and I am interested to see where this series goes. I am giving book 2 a 3/5 stars. I was really happy to see the grandfather again in this book, as he is my favorite character.

So...this was tough to get through. Not because it's long, or because it's difficult, but because it just isn't good. On page one, the protagonist's boyfriend is "snor[ing] away like a gummy bear." What does that even mean? And she loves their apartment in Phoenix, where she can see the ocean from her window? In Phoenix??? She turned on music from her "tablet device?" She got on top of him, "pleasing his manhood morning glory?" And then there's this:

"Looking for something?" she stirringly asked.
"Yeah, I left something of mine in the bathroom"
She moved herself from the door and I entered and had sigh of relief when I found the diamond still sitting there.
"That's quite a charming stone you hold!" she said, almost sounding line an evil source of something.

It's entirely possible that English isn't the author's first language; in fact, this reads a lot like that's the case. And, frankly, I applaud anyone who puts pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and writes a book. But this just isn't good.

I received a free ARC. I am leaving my honest review.

Although I didn't read the first book, it wasn't really necessary in order to read this sequel.

To be very blunt, I didn't like this book.

First, many of the descriptions were nonsensical What does describing someone sleepng like "a gummy bear" mean?

Second, the writing needs work. It comes across as juvenile and overblown. If a character is well written, it is unnecessary to have that character continually describe themselves in glowing terms, such as having a perfect pedicure.

This isn't the kind of reading I enjoy.

I thought that the book was okay - the author seemed to jump from situation to situation. I wanted to have more explanation to the movements made - the fights, the spells, how the Mc is helped by her parents when she went to her grandpa’s aid. This book just seemed to have some missing pieces that would provide support and complete the story.

Although I wanted to die hard love this one because of course WITCHES!! I found that it just had way to much going on for a 37 page book. I think that if this would have slowed down and been longer it would have worked out much better. I did enjoy the characters and would love to see a full fledged novel about them.
