A search through a troubled girls mind. The writing style captured the struggle that belle was having with her mental health.

This stated it was a dark and twisted psychological thriller and I think I expected a little bit more from that, it was enjoyable but I thought it was only ok rather than amazing.

Psychological suspense. Book moved slowly for me. If you are new to this type of story you may enjoy it.

WOW! Not only was this an absolutely fascinating story, the writing is so descriptive that as Belle roams the mansion into which she is captive, you walk next to her. Told in the first person narrative, Belle's thoughts and actions seem so clear, so normal, but then the questions start. I tried to take a break mid book, it didn't work, I had to go back to see if my guesses were right. This ended up being a one sitting read, and was I right? I'll never tell. This is definitely a 5 star read me now book.

Very interesting plot. This book had me hooked from the first page, couldn’t quite believe the plot, almost sinister. Made for great reading. Very well written.

Great read! The author does an amazing job creating mental health issues! Half of this book I was an anxious mess. By the end I understood the characters reactions.

Belle - the protagonist, is being held captive by her father and what follows is a harrowing tale from her perspective of what went on. A taut, but slightly predictable, yet, nevertheless enjoyable thriller. I know people use 'airport reads' as a dismissive term - I don't - I just mean it's really easy to get absorbed in it, and when you put it down, you'll want to come back. That's how I felt about this book. I didn't fly through it, but I didn't exactly put off coming back to finish it either, and it wasn't a difficult read.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Trapped Daughter has a really interesting premise and as a fan of psychological thrillers, I was really interested to see how Belle’s story was told. But ultimately this one didn’t work for me. It was really predictable and Belle’s inner monologue was repetitive and dragged the story down. The ending was also really abrupt and didn’t connect from point A to point B for me. I do read a lot of thrillers so readers that don’t may have a different reading experience.

I know many others enjoyed the book and this is just my opinion.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the gifted eARC. All thoughts are my own.

I did not read The Trapped Daughter through an educator lens.

The Trapped Daughter by Jay Kerk was one that drew me in instantly, but then struggled to keep my attention. Belle's story and thoughts were repetitive and the ending was predictable very early on. I had a hard time with the medication side of the story - as someone who has family members with mental illnesses, I see every day the importance of taking the medications to stay as themselves, not to keep them from being themselves. It's always disappointing to see anti-medication for mental illness.

Quick and easy read. It felt predictable to me, and the ending felt rushed, a lot left unexplained. This could have been so much better, I am happy that mental illness is talked about, however, it felt stigmatized. I would have liked to see more of normalizing mental health issues, and the treatment behind it.

Thank you to NetGalley and author Jay Kerk for the review copy of this book in exchange for a review. I will try to make this review spoiler free but there might be some accidental ones included. This book was an incredible depiction of what mental illness is like. The way this book is written is so chaotic and confusing but in a good way. It's impossible to tell what's real, what's not, and what is flashbacks. About halfway in this book starts to turn to the bazaar. I do believe this is the intent as Belle is falling deeper and deeper into her mental illness. I do feel like even after the truth is revealed that there are still quite a few questions. Why so much secrecy surrounding Belle? Why the need to hide her away from the world? Overall this book was definitely a 4 out of 5 for me and I would love to read more from this author.

This novel is about a young woman, who is "trapped" in her father's home. The story touches on various aspects of mental heath, mental illness, obsessions and family.

This one will take you on a wild ride. You will think that you know the end and then BAM you don't. There were many twists and turns to keep my interest.

For those with mental illness and/or caring for someone with mental illness, this novel may not be for you. It does touch on the topic of anti-medication feelings, which may be a concern for individuals. This was the one area of the novel that bothered me.

This was an interesting story as Belle is being held against her will by her dad and his girlfriend. Belle believes that Gabe has abandoned her and that people believe she has lost her mind. As the story progresses you find out that there is more going on with Belle that originally thought. It was a book that had me in suspense trying to figure out what was going on with Belle and Gabe.

Belle is a prisoner in a huge mansion occupied only by her father and the cook/housekeeper. Her only other job is to make sure that Belle takes her pills everyday .. and actually swallows them.

Belle is beside herself with anger ..... she once was in love with Gabe. They met in college and it was Belle's work on his behalf that enabled him to become a famous celebrity and all it entails. But he's pushed her aside now that he doesn't need her anymore. He took her love, her money, her friends and then made sure they turned their backs to her. Asking her father for help .. well, you see how that turned out.

But no one believes her .... they tell her that Gabe doesn't exist. They tell her they want to help her. They tell her they know best for her.

She knows the truth ... or does she?

This is an intense story of a woman against the world. She wants one thing..... to confront Gabe one more time ... to hear him admit how he has wronged her. It's dark, sometimes depressive, a tale of obsession. There are twists and turns and the reader has to determine what is real and what isn't. She has such clear memories of meeting Gabe, their relationship, and what broke them up. Why does no one see this? It's well written, nicely paced, with deftly developed characters.

Many thanks to the author / Jay Kerk Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological drama. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I received and advanced review copy of this book in exchange for my honest and open opinion.

Wow! This story is consistently thrilling. You are drawn into the story of a woman who believes she is being held captive by her father. Her attempts to escape and unravel the mystery of her situation create a tense and suspenseful read. I thought that I had the ending figured out but boy was I wrong. Definitely recommend!

Highly Recommend if you're looking for a great Psychological
Thriller.

In this story you meet Belle who tells you about how her father is keeping her locked up and won't let her leave the house. He insists for her to take her medication so she'll get better. She keeps wanting to leave the house so she can go find Gabe, the boy she loves who betrayed her and stole her painting ideas.

Or so she thinks...

The truth was a little more complicated than that.

This book was amazing! I loved following along with Belle.
The book was full of suspense and kept me turning pages. The ending was so unexpected I didn't see it coming.

Interesting premise, but disappointingly executed. The plot becomes repetitive very quickly and the book could have been at least 50% shorter. I did think the narrative voice was strong, however, and it was an interesting portrayal of mental illness.

I've read another book by Kerk, A Predator and A Psychopath of which I was very pleasantly surprised. So, I was expecting a lot and I was not let down.

Kerk is great at bringing darkness and realness with his writing. The Trapped Daughter is a psychological thriller that features Belle who is being held captive by her father. It's written entirely from her point of view.

This was definitely a wild ride and a page-turner just like his other book I read.
