This book came out ten months ago and it has taken me until now to be able to review it because I'm struggling to decide how I feel about it. The illustrations are interesting and I liked some of them, but for me, the poetry fell completely flat. I honestly feel like calling this "poetry" is generous, as most "poems" aren't even a single complete sentence in length. These pieces felt more like they belonged on an artist's Instagram than in poetry book form, and the formatting of the book -- which every other page being blank to falsely inflate how long the book feels -- only enhances that feeling. I wasn't a fan, but it wasn't the worst "poetry" I've ever read either.

This was new and different for me. The artwork was eye-catching I love the imagination and world building behind it. I didn't necessarily think this was poetry base but it was still cool.

She said, "Let's go outside... all the paintings and poems are waiting for us."

Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel for providing me with a temporary e-arc.

Serving as a great choice for a meaningful quick read in the middle of the night or during a commute, Louis Cannizzaro creates an eye-pleasing artsy collection of touching and heartful visual poetry with "There Once Was a Girl Who Created a World".
I loved it and the nostalgic tones in the sketches made the poetry even more stirring except it left me wanting for more. The concept behind this collection made it feel incomplete and since the book is yet to be released, I hope the author adds a fair amount of extras to make this collection even more stirring and complete! Anyways, it is a great collection and I would recommend you to check it out!

What I love most about "There Once Was a Girl Who Created a World" is how unique and wholesome it is. It seriously made me so happy reading it. Louis Cannizara's creativity shines with every page. I felt like I was flipping through an art gallery or sketchbook that also tells a beautiful story. The words are hand written and each page is a different style. Some pages consist of a simple word, others drawings, and some have cute sayings, poetry, or sentences.

A couple of my favorites are "Hearts are good at finding other Hearts" and "Artists create their own future then spend the rest of their lives living in it"

I definitely recommend this book. It would also make a cute coffee table book for your home.

Today I am #reading: There Once Was a Girl Who Created a World by Louis Cannizzaro (@powderfrench) aka Louis XXX. A cool visual poetry book. Felt like I was receiving poems from the guy who sketches stuff during class.

Honestly for most of this book I was just confused. It took only 10 minutes to read and at times some of the art felt like it was the work of a preschooler, if that makes sense? I did LOVE some of the art, but the book was so short I felt like I didn't get to see much. As for the poetry, there was not much of it at all, and the poems that were featured were mostly only a few words and I didn't feel much from them. Simply not my style of poetry. Also, my biggest issue with this book is that half of the pages for me where just BLANK! I checked the PDF on my computer and on the Netgalley app on my phone and it was the same. Not sure if it's meant to be like that or if it was an issue with the e-book provided by Netgalley, but either way I feel like I missed half of the book, or missed the intent with half of the pages being blank.

Some of the art is beautiful, though. I LOVED the poem on page 9 and the photo of the cup on page 84 with drawings and a poem on it was my favorite image in the book. But because of the issues I found, I would not pay the $14.99 for the book.

Louis Cannizzaro has written a magical book that makes you feel all nice and warm inside. It is short and sweet and is simply pleasing to look at. The images and writing go beautifully together, thus creating a world to be immersed in. A refreshing read.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Short poems, mixing simple drawings and some abstract ones that represent what is written.
I loved the concept of collages, paintings, drawings, it's a book art.

Louis Cannizzaro created a beautiful world where visual art meets poetry. This felt like my old journals as a kid; like rainy contemplative days when we feel improbable.
The book had quotes that I kept in my heart such as:

"Shadows all around us
but never between us"

and

"Sometimes she writes things because she likes the way they look"

Words become art, and the sorrounding art forms grants its own atmosphere to this book.
I would love to own a physical copy of this. It is gorgeous.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm definitely missing something. I'm sure there's meant to be something meaningful going on behind this book, but I didn't understand this at all.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book!

Firstly, if you don't know that this is a visual poetry you'll be disappointed (like me).

But if you are looking for a visual poetry this book will be a treat to your eyes. It has aesthetically pleasing illustrations and graphics. It's so cute and fun to look at it.

I have seldom delved into the world of visual poetry, but this work definitely intrigued me. I was captivated by the artwork and found some beautiful lines throughout the text.

I was wishing some sections didn’t feel so disjointed, overall desiring a further extension of the text, since it seemed to end abruptly. However, I think this is a fun read for poetry enthusiasts and could be an interesting mentor text for a college course.

Thank you for the ARC, Netgalley!
