Interesting new series. The characters are appealing and I enjoyed the plot. Can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the series. I've already picked up more books by this author.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of BRIMSTONE BOUND (Book 1 of the Firebrand series) by Helen Harper in exchange for an honest review. Meet Emma Bellamy. Emma’s just been switched to her last intern rotation as a probationary law enforcement officer. Emma’s at the top of her class and fully expects to be transferred to the elite Cyber Crimes Division, which is where she hopes to be permanently placed upon her qualification. Surprise! Emma is now a probationary officer with the Supernatural Squad, which is the department’s dumping ground for misfits and screw ups. Emma’s first day ends with her supervising officer blowing up at her for trying to actually do her job, so, when he sends her an apologetic message asking her to meet after hours, Emma, eager to make amends, goes to meet him. This gets Emma murdered. After she resurrects (again, Surprise!), Emma’s first step in locating her killer is to find her supervisor. This step is more challenging than expected and, once accomplished, raises only more questions. Emma’s mission to find her killer will introduce her to the supernatural community and their leaders. As she braves the strange and dangerous new cultures, Emma must learn to distinguish friend from foe and merely different from monstrous.

I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to all fans of regular (non-erotic) urban fantasy. Reader’s note, Emma is a complete neophyte to the paranormal; she’s deliberately kept herself completely ignorant in the expectation she would rarely interact with supernaturals. As such, the reader will figure out something important about Emma way before she does.
