This is such a perfect book. Patrick loves his sister's pair of purple polka dot tights. Loves them! He wears them, he plays with them, he holds rescue operations. They are much more than a pair of tights to him. His parents are completely accepting. This is just Patrick being Patrick. And I loved every single page. Shout out to the illustrator who helped bring this wonderful story to life.

Oh, my goodness! Patrick’s Polka Dot Tights is so unbelievably cute and fun. As soon as I saw the cover and name, I knew I immediately had to read this book! I had a good feeling that this would be a good book, and I was NOT disappointed!
Meet Patrick a little boy who LOVES his polka dot tights and uses them for everything you could imagine. And Patrick has a BIG imagination. The polka dot tights can be used for many things in his eyes and should be his. But alas, the tights belong to his big sister.
Patrick’s sister needs the tights for a piano recital so Patrick must give them up so she can wear them. After her recital, the family goes out for ice cream and something terrible happens to the tights. Patrick is devastated.
Luckily, this is not the end for Patrick and his tight wearing adventures. Everything ends up working out for everyone in the end and Patrick is one incredibly happy tight loving little boy.
The big parts that make me love Patrick’s Polka Dot Tights so much is the breaking down of gender stereotypes by having the main character be a boy who loves playing and wearing tights as well as his SUPER supportive parents. I think showing it as normal and not having any of the parents questioning him wearing or loving tights is important for kids of all young ages to see. Because it is normal, and tights are just clothes! We can all wear them! I love that about this book. Patrick also shows us that tights have many more uses in life for more than just cute leg wear if you just use your imagination!
So, go grab yourself some tights and have fun! I give this book five stars because I thought it was excellent!

This book is amazing for a parent/sibling to sit with a younger one. Both will totally enjoy this! The story is fun and quirky. Along with that, there are numerous messages in the undertones, such as gender equality. The book has a lot of colors, which adds to a child's development. The illustrations are very well done and are a balance between cute and funny. It is easy to read as well, a great choice to establish a reading habit for children

This is so cute. It's a great book for children since it shows that they have a freedom in choosing what they want and not be dictated by adults, which most of the time is conformed to the societal norms.

I received an electronic ARC from Capstone through NetGalley.
Patrick loves his sister's purple polka-dot tights. They are amazing and versatile. His imagination runs wild with the many ways he uses these tights as part of play and for practical reasons as well. The illustrations bring out the creativity and imaginative aspects of the story. Readers will look forward to seeing how he uses them next. Great for group discussion about imagination and for making predictions on how he will use them next. McCurry also offers some realism when it's revealed that the tights actually belong to his sister. He's not happy when she wears them and then accidentally gets chocolate stains on them. His family are receptive and buy him his own box of tights. The play expands and his imagination and creativity continue to grow.
I appreciate the freedom of expression this family allows and encourages. Their ability to accept and encourage personal style and expansive play shows readers they can also stretch their imaginations and identities.

Patrick has colourful, polka dot pants that are to be envied! He really enjoys wearing them because they're comfy and easy to move in, among many other reasons. But he has a wee problem... they are his sisters tights.

This story is about freedom and sharing, and I really liked it! It's a great story time read for the younglings. It's a unique and imaginative story that is super fun!

Three out of five stars.

Patrick loves to wear purple polka dot tights but they really belong to his sister who won’t share them and stains them with hot fudge sauce. His parents have a practical solution to the issue in this celebration of non-conforming dress, sharing, and sibling rivalry. The story is believable, with adults who are supportive of Patrick’s imaginative play, including modeling on the catwalk and being a rain forest explorer. The full color illustrations show a cartoonish white family; one scene depicts a culturally diverse audience at a recital. Although there are picture books with similar plots, this has charm and is very relatable.

This was a super cute and quick read. The story was simple, but heartfelt, and the main character was especially relatable. The illustrations were colorful and detailed, and really showed off the characters’ personalities.

Patrick's polka-dot tights have many uses and his sister Penelope doesn't appreciate all of the uses her tights have. This is a cute book about how clothes can make you feel happy or sad. Sometimes you just need some purple polka-dot tights.

My 3 year old daughter (and whose fathers name is Patrick) thought this was just the best book ever! Such a cute story and message. Will definitely be adding to our library's "to buy" list for the new year.

Patrick is enamoured with his purple polka-dotted tights.

"Patrick's tights were perfect and purple and had tiny polka-dots that stretched into ovals when he pulled them."

Being a creative and imaginative little boy he finds so many ways to play and use them with his out-of-the-box thinking. The problem? They really belong to his sister Penelope. He thinks that Penelope doesn't deserve them because the only time she wants them is when she does her stupid old piano recitals. Unfair!

Patrick uses them to play dress - up, at night to keep the chilly air from tickling his toes, to rescue bears from drowning in the sea, for taking his hot dog for a walk, and as a bandana when he goes on a fantastic motorcycle adventure, just to name a few.

This delightful book encourages kids to be unique and true to themselves. Patrick lives in a family that is open to his explorations and creative imagination. When his beloved purple polka-dotted leotards meet a tragedy his dad, sensing how much Patrick loved them, replaces the soiled pair with three pair of his son's very own. Everyone is on board to encourage Patrick and put his happiness first. The illustrations are are so well done and Patrick is an adorable and loveable character. I highly recommend this book.

This book about Patrick's tights is an antidote to the toxic practices of gendered clothing at young ages - Patrick loves tights. He loves them for both practical and play reasons! When his sister Penelope spills on Patrick's favorite tights, we see the loving support of Patrick's family, who encourage him to explore and imagine.

This book is a good example of letting children make their own choices. I like that Patrick not only likes to wear the tights but also use them for his adventures. I also thought it was great that his parents appreciated him enough to buy him his own pairs of tights.

I absolutely love 'Patrick's polka dot tights' about a little boy who loves tights! I'll he honest, there will likely be push back from people insisting that it's not right for a boy to love tights. However, we need books like this to fight back against others close minded opinions. The story is fun and creative- I never would have thought of so many ways to play with a pair of tights!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an e-copy to read and review.

I LOVED this book! It's a darling little story about a little boy who loves tights, He has a favourite pair that he wears and uses in imaginative play. The only problem - they technically belong to his sister!

I can't wait to read this to my own children and to have a copy in my classroom library.

This is really cute story about a boy that happens to love a pair of purple polka dot tights. He wears them and plays creatively with them. This great for families who are looking for diverse books and books that touch on the topic of gender nonconformity. Patrick liking this pair of tights is not a problem, except that they really belong to his sister who also sometimes wears them. His family is very accepting of allowing Patrick to like what he likes and be who he is. The message here is that it is okay to different. “Boy” things and “girl” things are perhaps really just kid things.

Some people will absolutely take issue with this book. There are still people that cling to gender norms and will be upset by it. There are people who will inevitably say it’s inappropriate (though there’s nothing inappropriate in the content). I don’t find anything in the story controversial, but I know people that will.
