We frequently use books to help teach our young kiddos valuable life lessons. It's important to learn that sometimes things get lost, but never forgotten. The illustrations in this book are a nice compliment to the message.

A great book to teach little ones about loss and how to deal with it and ways to cope with the sadness we have.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Lost is a childrens book about a little girl who has a beloved giraffe Teddy who she takes everywhere but then one day on holiday on a cruise ship, he falls from her arms and gets swept out to sea.

This book is a rhyming book to explain love and loss to children and is done so in a cute, understandable way that children will relate to. The language is easy to understand and follow and the story is beautifully done.

Lost is a story for any child but particularly a child that may have lost their favorite toy or stuffed animal. This is a story about Lucy and her favorite stuffed giraffe, Lou. Lou went everywhere with Lucy. Lucy's family went on vacation and Lou was lost at sea! Lucy was heartbroken of the loss of her friend. Throughout the story Lucy remembered all the good times that she had with Lou and she would miss him more. Lucy's friend Henry knew she missed her toy and he gave her a new friend a stuffed bear. The bear was nice and she enjoyed doing things with him but he could never replace Lou. She thanked Henry for his kindness. I think all of us have had that special toy that we clung to as a child that we either lost or almost lost.

Reynebeau has written a simple and heartfelt story about love and loss.

When Lucy loses her beloved toy giraffe, Lou, while they are on a cruise, she is heartbroken. Over time she moves on and comes to understand how love and loss are part of life. The ending offers a lovely little twist to the story with the illustration of the shark snuggling with the giraffe, Lou, at the bottom of the sea.

This is a good read aloud for young children as the explanation is simplistic. I would consider adding this to the school library and to our counselor's library.

Thank you Dreambuilt book and Net Galley for the e-arc.

This was disappointing. The idea is nice but the details let it down. It feels like more attention has been paid to rhyme and punctuation than to making it work for young children. Roller coasters, really? And the final line seems to suggest that it would have been better never to form an attachment in the first place.

The cover drew me to read this book, being that giraffes are my most favourite animal :) A story of a little girl called Lucy and her best soft toy Lou the giraffe. She took him on all her adventures until sadly Lou got lost :( This book explore the feelings of loss and grief in a child friendly way. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

The writing style was in rhyme. The meter was lacking and did not help the story.

This is a universal subject and can be told many different ways. But will always be needed.

My comments will address what I think are the positives of this book. First is the childhood need of how to deal with a loss. What makes this book stand out is how the author tacked the the matter of moving on. A child lives in the moment and the thought of moving on is hard to grasp.

This author did well in showing how memories can linger. Memories can bring back good feelings. I also like how she has shown how a child can form new attachments. New friendships and new experiences that bond with old experiences form a patchwork quilt that only enrich a life. This book ended with hope.

Thank to NetGalley and the publisher for a free eARC for review.

I love the idea of this book, and it has lovely illustrations. But the text kind of missed the mark for me. It felt a little stilted, and I couldn't get a feel for the rhythm of the story. Not a bad book on its own, but there are more effective titles available that address the issue of loss for young children.

Loss is hard for everyone who has loved, but especially for children. This book helps explain the feelings experience when someone we love is gone. The illustrations are lovely and will help children understand their own emotions during hard times.

"Lost" had a really good message, but I didn't really like the fact that her dad told her she would have to learn how to live without her giraffe. I did like the fact that the giraffe had a home at the end of the story, though.

This was a super cute book with an important lesson about love and loss. The illustrations were not my favorite, but the message was very sweet. This would be a great way to help teach children about loss and moving forward.

Lucy loves her giraffe Lou and takes him everywhere with her, until one day she loses Lou. How will she get over her loss. A wonderful story that teaches children how to cope with loss and that it's ok to be sad and also to move forward and be happy.

Oh such a beautiful story about belonging,a story about loss ,a story about how to cope with loss.and moving on .
It tells how loosing someone you love can effect a human specially a child and how the child should be explained that it's ok to feel sad for the one you lost. But life has to go on.It's ok to laugh ,or smile or be happy .Because the love will stay the same .

Lucy loves Lou, her stuffed toy giraffe. They are inseparable. They are lucky enough to go on a memorable cruise with the whole family but the most vivid memory that she brings back shatters her world. While enjoying the scenic view from the deck a big gust of wind blows Lou right from her hands and he plunges down into the bottomless ocean and is irretrievable. Lucy now has to navigate life now without her BFF but can she do it? Luckily she has strong family and friend support to help her manage her emotions and lead her out of her despair.

This book shines a light on emotions that are unveiled when a loved one (close friend, family member, pet etc.) are no longer with you. The author addresses the subjects of loss and grief in a way that will spark conversations and give understanding of what took place and how you can cope with that emptiness inside your heart.

The topic of loss is very sad indeed. The author offers hope at the end of the book by including a happy ending. Losing something or someone you cherish from your physical world is extremely heartbreaking but kids will discover that those gone forever can still be kept alive in their hearts by the treasured memories cultivated while they were there with you.

The illustrations are very well done and they enrich the text greatly. The book is written in rhyme which I discovered half way through the book. I recommend "Lost" and ask you to check out the other books in the Dreambuilt Kids Series. ( This is Book 7 )

I mean for starters, who could resist that front cover! A sweet story that rhymed. Very sad but a good way to help children understand loss. We can all empathise with losing a toy so it's a good way to explore a difficult topic.

I was interested to read this book as it is a good title to have to hand to help children overcome the loss of a loved one. As schools are due to reopen this autumn, I am not sure what trauma may have presented itself in the children's lives that I work with and I want to be prepared to help them come to terms with their loss and understand their emotions.

This is a book which tells them that memories are never lost and that the absent are always in your heart. In the book Lucy ostensibly loses her toy giraffe, Lou, but it is clear that the message is so much more. She has sad days and happy moments and a kind friend gives her a 'replacement toy to help her move on.

Love the rhyme and simple illustrations that carefully use colour to emphasise Lucy's emotions at any given point. Definitely recommend this one!
