Angels, demons and designer shoes by Sandra Sookoo.
Narrated by Anneliese Rennie and Alan Adelberg.
4 hours and 3 minutes.
Anne Jenkins never bought into the concept of a heaven or hell, but when she’s rescued from a runaway horse hurtling toward a steep ravine by a guy who claims he’s a demon, her freak detector goes off. When she demands proof, the leather-clad biker sets some local wildlife on fire. She starts to believe in a hurry.
A brilliant audiobook. I thoroughly enjoyed this. 5*.

Angels, Demons, and Designer Shoes by Sandra Sookoo was fun.

The overall story was quite enjoyable. The narrator was a good choice and kept me listening and at the end left me wanting more.

Both the author and the narrator did a great job with this book and I highly recommend it.

With thanks to NetGalley for the audio arc of this book, all opinions expressed here are my own.

Angels, Demons and Designer Shoes by Sandra Sookoo was a novella length book, so there wasn’t a lot of time for character development. This book was definitely a case of insta-lust and apparently insta-love too cos Granny told the no. There was a lot more talk of sex than anything actually happening. Overall I just didn’t feel any chemistry between the characters. This could have been to do with the narrators too. The male had a very deep voice, which seriously didn’t mesh well with the female who honestly sounded like an old lady.

I missed downloading this, so sought my own copy. But it unfortunately wasn’t a book suited to me - 2 stars.

Angels, Demons, and Designer Shoes is a quick, fun listen. It's a lot cheesy, but it's also witty and lighthearted, which makes for an entertaining twist on the trope. The characters are likable - yes, even the demon, and the fact that he's an IRS agent is an interesting touch. The narrators for this one were very well chosen. Anneliese Rennie wasn't new to me, and I'll admit that I wasn't sure about her for the voice of Anne. At least, I wasn't sure at first, but she quickly won me over. She has just the right amount of snark in her tone for this story, and Alan Adelberg worked perfectly for Gregg. The two of them together make for an engaging listen and they add that little something extra to the story in my opinion. In the end, this one was an amusing story, and I enjoyed the twist at the end. Yes, it's just this side of corny for the most part, but it's exactly the kind of feel good read that we can all use a little bit of.

Angels, Demons, and Designer Shoes by Sandra Sookoo was a very quick listen. It starts off by Anne on a runaway horse headed to hear potential death. Her pleas for help are answered by a demon, Gregg, all he requires is her soul for his boss. The sparks between the two are recognizable. Overall it was a little on the corny side and just alright. I would have loved a little more character and story development.

I enjoyed the narrators for this audiobook. There is one narrator for the male character and the rest is done by the female narrator. I feel this always helps make audiobooks easier to follow.

Thank you, NetGalley for a copy of the audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Angels, Demons, and Designer Shoes was written by Sandra Sookoo and narrated by Anneliese Rennie and Alan Adelberg. IRS agent Gregg Carter, bound to the Devil for all eternity for an audit gone wrong, seizes the opportunity to take possession of Anne’s soul as a way to please his boss. What he didn’t count on was the fact his libido would take the one-way bus to crazy town as he gets to know her better. When dreams of a future come calling, he’s screwed. Trouble is, Anne and Gregg spend so much time trying to hide their true selves from each other, that they can’t escape their mutual attraction. But everyone knows demons and humans don’t mix, and neither can two people destined for two different eternities. In the matter of heaven or hell, maybe the answer is somewhere in between.

Angels, Demons, and Designer Shoes took me a bit to get into. While I really like the use of dual narrators, and think they did a good job, they are not my favorite audiobook readers. I have heard some great narrators and think I am a little spoiled because of that. I was deep into chapter three before I started getting interested in the story. It reminded me a bit of the early MaryJanice Davidson or Angie Fox books, blending paranormal, humor, and romance. The dance between Gregg and Anna was sometimes very entertaining, other times a little dull or annoying. My favorite character was Anne's grandmother- who was sneaky with secrets and manipulation working them both towards a happy ending. I was a little annoyed with Anne's insecurities and her fluctuation between repressed nice girl and teasing with a lollipop and whiny more often than not. However, I did like that we got the inner thoughts from both Anne and Gregg as they were bumbling around in their own feelings and motives. I thought that there were some good ideas here, and that the twists and turns were well thought out. There was a good deal of potential here, but it never really grabbed my attention. I think I would rather read, or listen to, a story about Anne's grandmother, who seems to have lived a very interesting life and was more than a little manipulative, than Anne and Gregg.

Angels, Demons, and Designer Shoes is a story with some potential and that might be a good weekend read.

Angles, Demond, and Designer Shoes is a short fun read. It is about a girl who gets saved by a demon when she is in danger of falling off a cliff while trying to do a cover photoshoot for a novel written by her friend. The demon grants her 3 wishes in exchange for her soul which she owes him for saving her life. The story is all about the hilarity that ensues when she tried to evade him and buy more time.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Annelise Rennie and Alan Adelberg. They really brought out the characters and I know for sure some of the banter which I would generally be reading sounded way more fun while being spoken by the narrators. I wished the story was a little bit longer and involved more characters. It would have been fun to see her friends reacting to a demon.

Overall it was good entertainment while doing mundane household chores.

Heat Factor: They talk about it a lot, but don’t follow through until the end
Character Chemistry: Lust + Loneliness
Plot: She almost dies and asks for divine intervention, but she didn’t read the fine print, so a demon shows up, giving her a 30-day reprieve
Overall: Ridiculous

This is a novella-length story, so there’s quite a bit packed into a short space, including all of the drama associated with the protagonists’ emotional states plus all of the worldbuilding and conflict associated with a book about humans discovering a world of angels and demons. In the context of this story, this means that a lot of the feelings happen instantly.

Short story: Anne’s been saving all her living for later, but now that later’s happened, she’s feeling some regrets. Gregg might be a demon, but he’s super lonely and isolated, spending his eternity in hell, doing the devil’s bidding. But also, it’s completely ridiculous that Anne would just hand herself over to a DEMON, and Gregg knows that the devil will never let him have what he wants. Because that’s kind of the point of hell.

Don’t worry - Anne’s grandma knows just how to push these two so they can actually manage to escape an eternity of damnation at the end of the 30 days and they get a HEA.

I don’t know that I’d say it’s something I’d recommend you go out and purchase, but if you can get a copy somewhere like on Audible Escape or from the library or wherever one finds free copies of ebooks (please don’t pirate them - authors and narrators do deserve to get paid for their hours and hours of work), it might be worth a listen while you’re going on your grocery run or your jog. Mostly because every now and again something completely ridiculous is a nice palate cleanser.

As for the narration - here’s my stock reminder that I listen at a minimum of 1.5x because 1x is like listening to someone tell me the slowest story in the world. Okay, so, fun for this one is that Alan Adelberg reads all of Gregg’s lines in context while Anneliese Rennie does the remainder of the narration. This is a little odd if you’re accustomed to normal duet narration that alternates based on POV and both narrators do voices for everyone when they have a chapter, but I love it. Rennie has a perfectly nice voice, but in this book the narration award goes to Adelberg, who totally makes Gregg sound like a horny demon. Really A++ work there.

This was a hard one for me to review because story wise I really liked the story and if I had the actual book I would have loved it probably. My problem was the main female narrator. She was a great narrator for sure but her voice sounded like Betty White to me. It sounded too mature to be someone so young and it was awkward for me to hear her flirt with the main guy so I couldn’t get that connection I usually get when I listen to an audiobook. Performance wise she’s a great narrator it’s just it probably wasn’t the best casting choice to use her.

Started to listen to this book but gave up. The voices of the narrators grated on me. Also didn’t get into the story. To may other good books out there to waste time on this.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review

The book had a fun, unique premise. Anne Jenkins has just made a deal with the Devil. Or at least, one of his lackeys. Gregg Carter is a former IRS agent, turned demon. His job is to collect Anne's soul and he won't leave her alone until the deed is done. Throw in an ailing grandmother who is hell bent on keeping them apart and three magical wishes, and you're in for a heck of a time.

That being said, Anne was a likable character and was willing to keep trying to find a way out of her situation, even when it looked like all hope was lost. She inspired Gregg to find his hope and humanity once more, even though he seemed like a lost cause. Gregg's devil-may-care attitude was refreshing and a good contrast to Anne's often serious nature.

While I admit there were some funny parts to this book, overall the characters didn't make sense. They reacted inappropriately to situations and there was minimal build up of the romance between Anne and Gregg. I would've like to know more about them as individuals. What was Gregg's life like as a human? How did Anne end up with her grandmother? Why was she helping her friends with a photoshoot anyway if they were so terrible and why didn't they play a part in the story?

The premise for this book was super cute. Mortal accidentally gives her soul to a demon who saves her life & romance follows.

I liked that the author didn’t spend a lot of time keeping Anne in disbelief. Like, once there is pretty solid proof someone is a demon, I say move on & the author did, so ai definitely appreciated that.

I think this fell short for me in a few ways though. One was that the writing did a little more telling rather than showing & it made a lot of the conversations seem unrealistic (talks about demons aside) and a little uncomfortable. The other thing that was a little tough for me was the narration in the audiobook. The female narrator’s voice didn’t seem to match the characterization of Anne and the situation, so it was hard to suspend disbelief to get lost in that world. The male narrator was excellent though. I would definitely listen to more of his work.

I did pretty much fly through this though and it made me wonder if I would bind myself to a sexy demon if it meant I wouldn’t be damned to hell alone for eternity, so that was new 🙂

I would like to thank NetGalley, Spectrum Audio, and Sandra Sookoo for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the worst audio book I have ever listened too. The story line is unbearable and the narrators are horrid. One is trying too hard while the other doesn't seem to care how she sounds. Slack book, Sorry
