Another masterful creation in the Inspector Gamache series! While you don't have to read this series in order, it really helps to understand why some things happened and the relationships between the characters. This novel takes place in Paris as opposed to Three Pines. The entire Gamache family spend their first night in Paris at a bistro with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. As they walk home, Steven is critically injured and Gamache suspects it is no accident. A strange key is found which begins the search for answers about Gamache's family and sinister secrets. Who can be trusted to help?

All the Devils Are Here is the 16th book in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. While I enjoyed this audiobook I would recommend that you do NOT pick it up if you haven't been following this series. Unfortunately I made this mistake and while I liked the book I felt like I couldn't fully appreciate it.

This is one complicated story! It was nice and refreshing to read a book where I had no idea how it was going to end. Penny kept my attention and kept second guessing all the characters right up until the bitter end.

My only complaint with this book and perhaps its my own fault for not having read the others, was that I found the names confusing. Penny often bounced between using the characters first and last names when referring to them. This was a decent sized audiobook so by the end I definitely knew who was who but in the beginning it was a bit of a struggle!

Louise Penny delivers in her 16th Chief Inspector Armand Gamache mystery. I love this series and I never tire of reading. All the Devils are here is set in Paris, France and along with the new setting provides different insight into the Chief Inspector and his family. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

I previously listened to Penny’s Inspector Gamache series narrated by Ralph Cosham. He has narrated books 1 through 5 for me and I loved each book more than the last. I was reluctant to skip from the fifth in the series to All the Devils Are Here, number 16 in the series. But I was prompted by many to read it and assured that the skipped novels would not detract from my enjoyment.

All the Devils Are Here is narrated by Robert Bathurst. His accent was pleasant and he brought the characters to life with adjustments to his voice. But this narrator did not match the joviality and humor that came across when Cosham was telling the story. I missed him for the Gamache character but overall, his work was wonderful.

The first five books that I read were all set in a sleepy Canadian town with an uncanny propensity for murder. All the Devils Are Here was set in France, and it was interesting to watch Inspector Gamache out of his element and on the other side of the interrogation.

All the Devils Are Here has all of the components I have come to love and expect from Louise Penny. Layered characters, plot twists and turns, and heart-racing intensity. This book delved deeper into Gamache’s family history and I loved that aspect of the story as much as the murder mystery itself. I can’t wait to fill in the skipper-over installments and read the complete Inspector Gamache series!

If you haven’t started with this series, dive right in. You won’t be sorry.

Already counting the days until Louise Penny's next release! These books are so ingeniously put together that when you get to the big reveal, you take a deep breath and ask yourself, How did Louise Penny DO that? Five solid stars specifically for narrator's voice + the audiobook performance. The combination of those two factors made for an incredible listening experience;

A fantastic addition to the beloved Three Pines series set this time in the fabulous Paris! Fast-paced and brilliantly written, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The narrator only added with his voice to the pleasurable experience. The epilogue will give you all the cozy feelings.

I read this for background reading for a review we were running on BookBrowse (http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?m=1102200958905&ca=afd1a97f-5ffe-49b8-b02b-493989ebeb37) and for my own interest having dipped into Penny's series on a number of occasions. While streets ahead of many writers in her genre, to be honest I didn't find this to be a particularly strong entry as the story-line stretched credibility too much. With that said, I did enjoy getting to know members of the Gamache family who have stayed on the sidelines through so many books.

This is the best Louise Penny book yet. Set in Paris, it provides some background to Gamache’s relationship with his godfather. And his early years. The mystery is compelling, but the back drop of Paris makes it even more intriguing. I must say I loved it.

Robert Bathurst is a brilliant narrator and is the voice of Gamache. So much so that I will not read this series, rather, I prefer to listen. This is my favorite book in the series so far. I absolutely loved this book that takes place in Paris rather than Three Pines. The story kept me on my toes every minute and had me guessing to the very end. I love that we get to know Daniel, Gamache's son, in a way that we have not in previous books. If you are not familiar with the series, start and number one and pace yourself. I tried to slow down but now I have to wait a year between books!

Each book in this series has been amazing and this was no exception. This book is set in Paris, where Armand and Rene Marie are awaiting the birth of their grand child. Armand's godfather, Stephen Horowitz, is there also for the birth. They have all been there many times and the descriptions of the streets and the places that they visit make you feel like you are seeing it with your own eyes and experiencing it yourself. Of course, there is a mystery that is very well plotted that takes the reader into unexpected places. Armand, and the reader, are unsure what is true and what is not, and who he can trust. This book kept me on the edge of my seat! Louise Penny's writing is so engrossing and the narrator of this audio book was excellent. I can't wait for the next book in this wonderful series.

Secrets, lies, and deceit in the City of Light. Inspector Gamache and wife have come to Paris to celebrate with part of their family and with his elderly mentor from childhood and beyond. But the joyous reunion is marred by a serious attempt on Steven's life and spirals downward as things are uncovered. Then the plot "thickens" and intensifies even if it seems to meander at times. All in all it was very well worth the nearly 14 hours as I went about the mundane things.
I was impressed with the audio performance by Robert Bathurst and his ability to bring the characters and their personalities to life.

All the Devils Are Here is the lasted book in the Armand Gamache mystery series by Louise Penny. In this story, the Gamache family is in Paris for the eminent arrival of the newest grandchild. A series of events puts the entire family in danger and they all have to work together to solve the mystery in order to survive. The reader will enjoy seeing the familiar characters in Paris. Ms. Penny always does a wonderful job setting the scene and immersing the reader in the details of a place. It is also great to see other family members actively help Armand (Reine-Marie is all over this one) and not just provide support from the sidelines. The narrator, Robert Bathurst, provides each character with a unique voice and accent and he does an excellent job conveying the suspense of the narrative. A fantastic, fresh addition to the long-running series.

For years, I have heard about Louise Penny books but had never picked one up. Thanks to Net Galley, I had the opportunity to read the audio version of her newest book, All the Devils are Here. Now, I will be starting at #1 and reading the entire backlog of her books!

This mystery takes place in Paris, post the Notre Dame fire. Penny does such a wonderful job of capturing the feeling of daily life in Paris and noting all its unique beauty, while noting it tragic moments as well. Her writing is beautifully descriptive while not being overly done so that the focus remains on the characters and the action. Inspector Gamache, who is so familiar to those that regularly read Penny, is forced into solving a mystery that seems to involve all of Paris with repercussions around the world. His entire family is involved and a lot of the plot focuses on these dynamics of family ties while continuing with the crime whodunnit. She does a wonderful job of connecting all the dots and leading you through the mystery. Her characters are realistic with humor and faults.

The book easily stands on its own, but I look forward to reading all the other Inspector Gamache books to learn more about some of the incidents mentioned in the book. I think this is the first to focus on his relationship with his son so it will be interesting to see as I read the series if I have insights from reading this one first. I do think this was the one off note in the book that perhaps I will understand more upon learning more about the Inspector. Daniel's feelings towards his father were a bit juvenile for a man who has children himself and 25 years since the initial cause of the discord.

I listened to this book over two days. A clear indication that I was enjoying it! My only criticism reflects more on me than the book as it was hard in audio to track all the French names and I got confused at who was who. It would be nice to have a list of names to review with audio books. The narrator changed voices with the various characters. I am not a huge fan of male narrators who sweeten up their voices for female characters, as it tends to make them sound silly. Robert Bathurst usually just softened his voice so it sounded better and his french was beautiful. The one character that seemed off in voice was Daniel who sounded American or Scottish at times, but perhaps this was part of making him sound harsher.

Overall a great listen and I recommend it.

My first time listening to a Louise Penny audio book, kudos to the narrator for doing such an amazing job with all the different voices.
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his wife Reine-Marie arrive in Paris to visit their children, Annie and Daniel.
Son in law Jean-Guy Beauvoir has taken a job in a private engineering corporation, and his second child, a daughter with Annie, is due any time.
They gather in a bistro for a family dinner, along with Stephen Horowitz, Armand's 93 year old billionaire godfather.
Walking home after eating, Stephen is hit by a van, that speeds off afterwards. It looks like a deliberate attempt to kill him.
Stephen is rushed to the hospital where he lies in a coma, gravely injured.
The police don't believe it was intentional, so Armand and Jean-Guy begin to investigate. A ghastly finding at Stephen's apartment makes them realize that they are all in extreme danger.
A change in location for the series worried me at first, but it lent the story a fresh view and all of our regulars were present. I did miss the other characters and I look forward to going back to Three Pines soon.
The story was fast paced and full of tension and I was uncertain who to trust.
A riveting and thrilling entry into one of the best series written.
My only complaint about the audio version is that I was unable to read the author acknowledgements which I've grown to love.

The narrator had a very soothing voice for this but I just couldn't get into the storyline. It was very slow and didn't capture my attention so unfortunately I couldn't finish it.

This was my first Louise Penny book and it was a great place to start. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it is because I anticipated the lack of backstory to affect my appreciation and understanding of the story, but it reads easily as a semi-standalone. The story was excellent and I enjoyed the audiobook. I found the French accent to change my listening to a slower speed in order to fully understand the narration. It was still good despite this.

This is the first book I've read from Louise Penny, but came highly recommended. As I began listening to this audiobook, I was swept up into the Gamache's world. I enjoyed meeting new characters who were written with depth and a plot that was thrilling.

The narrator was a bit difficult to understand when turned up to a faster speed that I am accustomed to listen to audiobooks at, but I still enjoyed his voice. He was able to tell the story in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Great fun, great story, and must read for fans of this series. this is the first author was a very good read.. even if this your first book its easy to follow and a very good read. the characters are very believe able

After having dinner with Armand's godfather, Stephen Horowitz, all hell breaks loose when Stephen is ran over by a car and they discover there is a huge machination behind his attack. For the first time, every member in Gamache´s family is in grave danger, and nobody can be trusted.

I've always been a fan of this series, so there's always that fear of finally getting to the point where the books are somehow lacking. Fortunately, this has absolutely not been the case. Every book gets better and better. This one was filled with intrigue, betrayals, riddles and of course, with lots and lots of love. The one thing I disliked was the reason behind why Daniel and Armand are estranged. Without spoiling anything, The reason was so dumb, I could not believe Armand could have such a stupid son. I hated Daniel and I hated how servile Armand behaved just to please his annoying kid.

Other than that, I really liked the book and I loved how Ruth is somehow everywhere the Gamaches are, even in spirit. Sure, a few things were a bit far-fetched, but who cares, these books are so expertly written that you believe everything the author wants you to believe, without question. Louise Penny is truly one of my favorite authors and she goes higher on the list with every new book.

Also, Robert Bathurst is the best narrator! In my mind, Armand has always had his voice. He conveys so many emotions with a single spoken line, it's incredible. He added so much to my enjoyment of the book.

I absolutely recommend this series, and this book in particular! Gamache is a character the whole world should know. How amazing it would be if we could all be a little bit more like him.

Daniel Gamache almost made me rate this 4 stars, but I will not let that brat affect my overall enjoyment of the book so 5 stars!
