Wow, I cried a lot reading this one. It's not an easy, fun, read BUT so worth it!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

As a child growing up hearing my parents stories about the 1960's and The Vietnam War, I was always intrigued by that era, and I just seemed to have a connection to it. My father was in The Air Force, and I would always hear stories about that era from my parents. I just always felt a strong empathy for the soldiers that fought in Vietnam. So, I was immediately drawn to request this book. This story pulls at the heartstrings, and at times, is difficult to read because it is so raw. The struggles that our country's POW's have faced are just heart wrenching. I enjoyed this book very much. 5 stars!

This is not an easy book to read. It is gut-wrenching. It’s a train wreck. It’s heart breaking. But it is also very good. There’s a lack of polish, very gritty and raw really. I liked the synopsis but had no idea it was going to be so rough. I was raised in and still live in NW Arkansas so that piece felt very familiar and just like home. The Vietnam vet part was not familiar as I’m an 80s child, but I know my history and psychology and I cannot even fathom the horror our vets deal with. I believe the author did an excellent job of telling it, more than likely, exactly like it is. Be prepared for a harsh dose of darkness and madness, but it’s well worth it.

I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Katie is in mourning after the death of her husband. When she is asked to come to the vet hospital to help with a patient suffering from PTSD she meets Glen, who had been held captive and tortured for 9 years before rescue from Vietnam. A good story, but hard to read at times. Sad to think of what he went through, and the pain and struggle these two go through is not easy. Would recommend, but have a box of tissue nearby.
