Helena and Declan are wonderful characters who readers will root for from their very first meeting. An impossible love between two people from two different worlds. Declan knows they cannot be together but Helena knows there is only one man for her and it is Declan. She just needs to convince him of that. This is a book readers won't want to put down.

Lady Helena Lark has been trying to get out of marrying Lord Lusk for years. But the families have decided that enough is enough and they plan the wedding. The Duke’s uncle hires mercenary Declan Shaw to watch over Lady Helena to make sure she doesn’t bolt again and the wedding goes through. What neither Lady Helena or Declan expects is to fall in love with each other.

This was a charming, fun story; everything you should expect from a historical romance. I highly recommend.

The highest form of humor is sarcasm. This story has wit and humor in every paragraph. This story started quite grim with the hero in prison for killing a young lady that he was guarding. He is a mercenary and he finds, guards and returns people. The last young lady that was under his guardianship is missing so he was arrested for murder and plopped in jail. The duke's uncle, who is really running the show while his nephew the duke stumbles around drunk and swivving every large breasted woman that he can, hires the hero to make sure the duke's betrothed (who is the daughter of his neighbor) doesn't run away and he will pay the hero £15,000.00. That is millions in the Regency world!! So the hero agrees, and then the heroine is introduced. I think she must be at least 25 years old because she states that two of her excuses for not marrying the duke is that she was too young and then was too old. She has lived with her grandmother on a seperate part of the estate which she inherited when her grandmother died 5 years before. When her parents realized that the only way they could access this prime section of the estate was to have her get married and her husband would sell them the land, they engaged her to the neighbor. What a pair of selfish, un-loving parents. The heroine ran this small estate which was comprised of tenants who worked her large apple orchard. It was a self sufficient operation that the heroine was smart enough to make profitable and grow. But her parents wanted access to the river that bordered her little estate. So she told the hero that her plan to get out of the betrothal was to find a woman who met all of the duke's requirements, have him fall in love with her, then the heroine's betrothal would be ended and the heroine would be free to return to and run her estate as she wanted. What a great plan. And I am not giving any more spoilers.
This was a great story. It was well written. I laughed out loud when I read it and I really was captivated by the characters. It does get a bit sensual, but this is sometimes typical. I recommend this book with 5 stars!

I really loved this story and couldn’t put it down. Declan and Helena’s chemistry was off the charts! But they each had way too much to lose, especially each other. Declan reluctantly agrees to help her find the perfect wife for her husband-to-be, a duke she desperately does not want to marry. Not just because she’s a woman who longs to marry for love, but because she wants to save her home, her apple farm, and everyone who lives there. And Declan has so many reasons to avoid her and do the job he was hired to do, including the threat of going back to prison, but it’s a good thing he didn’t! It was fun to read about their quest. The writing was superb. Rock solid story. The description and emotion of these characters had me holding my breath. Highly recommended.

A swoon worthy romance read! I really loved reading this book and had so much fun with the plot. The story revolves around Declan Shaw, a mercenary turned body guard out of prison, and Lady Helena Lark, trying desperately to get out of an arranged marriage her parents set up. The chemistry between the two characters was amazing and I loved how fierce and determined Helena was in her goals to just be free and live her apple farmer life. Helena has tried everything for the past five years, including running away, and pretending to be mad in order to get out of her arranged marriage and nothing seems to be working. Her final option is to find another potential duchess to convince the Duke to fall in love with in order to free herself from him. Declan is hired as the personal groom to Helena, all the while he is supposed to make sure she makes it down the aisle with the Duke. If he fails, he will be sent back to prison and lose the payday that will help his family, the only problem? Helena is more than he could have ever imagined and she’s completely captivated him. I loved the story and I loved the characters, I highly recommend this book for all romance lovers! It’s fun, sweet, and just down right romantic as heck!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC for my honest review of A Duchess a Day.

Charis Michaels is a brand new author for me. I've never read any of her previous work before, so this book is the first and I absolutely LOVED it! The writing is fantastic! The plot is fun, romantic, ingenious, and everything that a historical romance should be.

The plot pacing was perfect, as well. Our main characters, Helena and Declan are introduced to us with their own set of problems. One in jail for abduction, while the other is trying to escape an engagement from a Duke. From there, romance ensues between these two characters. At times I was laughing out loud because the banter between them was so fun!

I can't say enough about this book! I look forward to reading more from the author. I am definitely hooked!!

Lady Helena Lark has spent years trying to escape her wedding to the Duke of Lusk, with no luck. Her newest plan: trying to find a replacement bride. Declan Shaw is a mercenary whose last job landed him falsely accused and jailed. He is blackmailed by the Duke of Lusk's uncle to mind the difficult lady and make sure she makes it to the alter. Helena is not what Declan expects, and soon he finds himself siding with her and helping with her outrageous plan.

This is a charming story! It is the first of a new series of fairytale reimaginings. This one, reminiscent of Snow White, features a "Huntsman" hero, woodland-loving and apple harvesting heroine, potential duchesses named after the seven dwarves, and an "awakening" kiss. I enjoyed the writing, which was engaging and humorous, and the fun partnership and tension that developed between the heroine and heroine.

Helena has been trying to escape marriage to the Duke for five years. Declan has been sitting in Newgate for a crime he did not commit. When he is offered a chance to be released and a hefty sum in payment, he accepts the job. The job is to be footman to Helena and make sure she makes it to the altar. A lovely retelling of Snow White! Very different and highly recommend.

I thought this was a an entertaining historical romance. Declan is pulled out of prison by a man desperate to secure the marriage of his son to a heiress who does not wish to marry him. He hires Declan as her bodyguard and spy. Of course he agrees but it all goes out the window when he meets the beautiful and willful Helena.
I loved the sensual tension and comrade that buds between them. Helena ensures his help to get the Duke to fall in love with someone else.
Although Duncan and Helena try to fight the their feelings for each other, they eventually give in . The only thing I wasn't crazy about with this novel is Duncan's consistent worry that they would get caught and their future lost. It just got old after awhile. Otherwise, worth the read.

Helena does not want to marry the man she has been betrothed to for five years. Her fiance’s family hires a bodyguard, Declan, to make sure she doesn’t run away before the wedding. After falling in love, they work together to set themselves free to be together. I received an ARC from NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for my honest review.

I am new to Charis Michael’s works and when Net Galley allowed me access to a copy I was elated. The storyline is a familiar one, a heroine trying to break off an arranged betrothal. But it was cleverly written. Some terms used are a bit modern but nonetheless enjoyable.

The hero is in jail and was given freedom in exchange for a job that involves the heroine. He is a family-oriented man which I liked about him. He is also honorable. He has none of the emotionally scarred, Brooding and tormented stereotype which I appreciated a lot. The heroine is just awesome. She is clever, mature, innocent, down to earth courageous and humorous. Their chemistry/ combination is just adorable. The humor is nice and the development added to the love story. It was just a light romance. There were times I was tempted to skip a page but overall it was an entertaining story. The epilogue was nice too.

The second sentence in chapter one made me laugh and right then I just knew I was going to love this book. It at times had me laughing and the best part of it was the awesome characters! The banter and fun of it was spot on.

We meet Declan in jail since he’s been (falsely) accused of abduction. Helena is trying her best to get out of her engagement with a Duke so Declan’s been hired to make sure she doesn’t bolt before the wedding. What happens after that is a friendship turning into romance between these two characters who are the perfect compliment to each other.

This is my first Charis Michaels book but it certainly won’t be my last. The writing style, plot, pacing, humor and creativity in this book was a breath of fresh air in the crowded Regency romance field. I can’t gush about this book enough and I’ll be looking forward to the next one in the series!

Thanks Netgalley for an advance copy! Full review to come on my blog closer to publication date.
