Initial Thoughts/Expectations:

Song for a Cowboy is book two in the Kings of Country series and the characters and the overarching storyline were all set in place in book one, Jace. I was beyond excited for more time with the King Family when I received a copy of the book and sat down to begin it, yet I was still surprised with how fully and happily I became entrenched in their world again. I was smiling so big by the end of the opening scene.

What I loved:

This book was Emmy Lou’s story and I loved watching Emmy Lou come into her own and think that was as much the point of this book as her romance with Brock. She has always been a bit sheltered, but her ridiculously large heart has kept her a genuinely adorable person - seriously, there are times in this book when you realize how she could have ended up way different. She struggles and learns a good deal about herself and those she can rely on throughout this book.

I loved Emmy Lou and Brock and believe there is little better than a couple finding each other again after they have done some growing and living! There may have been outside forces that pushed them apart and while some mourning can be done for the time they lost, they are stronger for having had the chance to grow before being settled with one another. There are a few times I wanted to make them sit down and talk to each other, but the miscommunication that is at the heart of their issues was set in place so long ago and is so very deep-set. Brock is a pro football player and that storyline helps to force them together and brings in a few entertaining moments throughout the book.

All the supporting characters bring so much to the story. Krystal and Jace, the main characters from book one, are the cutest and after book one it is so nice to see them so happy. Travis, Emmy Lou’s brother, is witty as ever but obviously dealing with a lot and I cannot wait to get his story - it’ll be an interesting one for sure. Sawyer, the Kings’ bodyguard with a secret (to most) family connection, continues to intrigue me - he is going to get his story too! The King family is as complicated as ever but the fact that those siblings care about each other like they do attests to their love and truly deep bond. The drama and the love between them keeps me wanting more!

What I Didn’t Love:

Nothing at all. However, I will admit that a few days after finishing the book I realized there was something integral to Emmy Lou and Brock’s story that I don’t recall being fully addressed. After giving it some thought I feel there is a storyline involving she-who-shall-not-be-named (Emmy Lou’s mother) that is still running its course. I am hopeful that there will be a little more resolution as we progress through to Travis’ story and beyond.

Final Thoughts:

I do not suggest reading Song for a Cowboy as a stand-alone because you’d miss out on so much important background information. While this is Emmy Lou and Brock’s story it is closely entwined with the King Family’s story which begins in Jace. The family drama is a focal point, but humor between the siblings lightens things up the right amount throughout.

When I read the last paragraph I was both happy with the ending and sad that it had to end. Sasha Summers’ writing and the characters she creates never fail to draw me in and make me forget the world around me.

I had big expectations going in to the book and they were not only met, but exceeded!

I cannot wait for more. You really can’t go wrong with a Sasha Summers book.

Getting another chance with your high school love!

Emmy Lou King and Brock Watson had dated in high school that ended after they graduated with a little help from her mother. Both of them had moved on, Emmy Lou became part of the band Three Kings with her brother and twin sister and Brock almost lost his professional football career with a serious drug issue that almost ended his football career until he got clean. But when they signed to help with the same anti-drug charity, they found out their attractions hadn’t faded.

I grew up on country music, so Song for a Cowboy was the perfect romance to read especially when it a second chance romance where Emmy Lou and Brock find their way back to being together. You also need to read Jace which is about Emmy Lou’s twin sister Krystal.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received this arc from Source Books for an honest review:
The second book in the King music family story. Here you have Emmy Lou and Brock with a second chance at romance. This though is not one of those easy fast falls back into love and relationship stories. No. each still has issues with the other one, each believes that the other one broke up with them, and though they have chemistry when they are together it does not go smoothly. Just when you think maybe everything will work out for them there is another setback. All of these setbacks though go with the story and with the characters from the first book.
You have Emmy Lou who wants to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are doing everything for her best especially her mother if you read the first book, well that is all I will say. Brock though has his own worries with coming back from an injury and hoping his football career is not over. Dealing with his father in the hospital, his ex who is still showing up when he does not need her to be, and oh yes, he is still in love with Emmy always has, and yet there is someone that is working at keeping them apart. Read this story and find out who it is. See if these two will get past all of the BS or still be single. The characters are all wonderful and the story will keep you going until the end. I was able to read this in one night. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

I really enjoyed this book!!

I thought that the storyline was really good, it was well written and it had a lovely flow to the story.

The characters were well developed and they worked really well together in the story.

The book focussed on romance and them finding their own strengths to carry on.

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!

I haven't read anything by the author previously, and this is the second book in the series so I get the feeling I have missed out on what happened between Emmy Lou and Brock previously. Having said that is is quite obvious that her controlling mother has something to do with it. Whilst it may be great to have the background, the author still managed to recap on what went so wrong so I feel like I can still keep up with the story.

All in all, I enjoyed the book. Both characters are likeable as are the other family members, Travis especially had me chuckling aloud throughout. And I would definitely like to know his story and that of his half sibling Sawyer who was another interesting character that I would have liked to find out more about.

Whilst this wasn't a book that will stay with me forever it was a cute love story, and I would read other books in the series or by the author.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for giving me a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review. This book featured a couple in the Kings of Country series—Emmy Lou and Brock. Their relationship was torn apart in the past by lies and misunderstandings. The characters are brought back together by a charity.

I adored this wonderful second chance romance. This book had so many things that I love. Angst, drama, heart and relatable characters. The writing was solid. This is my first book by the author and definitely won’t be my last. I love finding new authors through Netgalley.

Another stellar story from Sasha Summers! She really packs in the emotion and brings the heat. I highly recommend to anyone, even if they are not a fan of cowboys :)

This was a new to me author & I’m happy I took a chance at reading her new cowboy romance! I’m such a lover of cowboy romances! This one was a second chance between Emmy Lou & Brock. They were former high school sweethearts. Brock is our NFL gruff hero. He’s been through a lot since he’s left Emmy Lou. A chance encounter at a charity bring these two back together, along with feelings they once had! Emmy Lou is a country star and has 2 other siblings! These two have some serious chemistry, which I’m all for! Though they both had their ridiculous moments, bc guys doesn’t this happen in all romances!? I really enjoyed watching Emmy Lou & Brock fall back in love and finding their HEA even though it wasn’t always easy and drama lingered with family! All in all a sweet romance! And anyone who loves cowboys, family drama, & second chances should def give this one a read!

Sasha Summers has done it again with the King books!
Emmy Lou is on the phone with her twin sister Krystal in the pouring rain, when she is almost hit by a truck. Then she realizes the driver is Brock, the one who broke her heart 6 years ago, neither say anything.
Now Emmy Lou is involved in a big charity, she will soon find out Brock plays a large roll in it also. They will be forced to face the past and the present.

The book is non-stop, with twists, turns, and love.
Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

2.5/5 stars!

This is a second-chance romance for the popular country singer and athlete cowboy who reunites for a charity that is dear to both of them. Through misunderstandings, miscommunications, the simmering attraction that is still there between them, and family issues that the couple must face before they reach their happily-ever-after.

This is the second book in the Kings of Country series and it provided enough information from the flirts book for readers not to get lost. I liked the closeness of the King siblings and the support of the hero's family. I didn't like that the communication issues, the heroine's mother, and how there is not enough details to complete the story for my personal preference. Overall, this book has a nice story of second chance love and family dynamics.

**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.**

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance between a famous country music singer and a football star, who share a painful past breakup but come together again through their support of an anti-drugs charity. Emmy Lou and Brock are understandably slow to trust each other, but their chemistry is undeniable despite many misunderstandings, I loved all of the secondary characters, including Emmy's siblings and Brock's Aunt Mo. I will be getting the first book in this series and look forward to future entries.

I have an itch for sports romances and this story scratched that itch. This is a story about two people that were separated when they were teenagers. The angst was there and Summers created two complete characters that were great to get to know. I describe this story as an onion. There were layers upon layers of complication and depth to most of the characters of this book. I enjoyed discovering them as I read. The general plot is along the lines of others I have read to some degree but there were curve balls thrown in there that made this story stand out with other second chance/sports romances. I genuinely loved getting to know all of the characters. I did not read the first book in the series with Jace and Krystal but I will now! PLEASE PLEASE let there be a story about Sawyer. I love him.

There were very few issues I had with this book. The writing was on point and I didn’t see any grammar errors. I will say that some of the scenes were a bit rushed. I am not one for endless love scenes but I feel like these could have been developed a little bit more so the reader can sense the years of longing and love between these two. I was so looking forward to their first time together and I was left a little wanting. Other than this, I enjoyed getting to know these characters and Sasha Summers got another follower on Amazon!

Emmy Lou is a singer, Brock is a football player. After years when they broke up as high school sweethearts they meet again.A good story, although it was obvious pretty quickly who caused the breakup years ago. A parent shouldn't be that negative. Also wanted to see Sawyer's secret brought forth. I am guessing there will be more in the series, as the other brother needs someone to tame him too. Would recommend for a quick and easy read.

When I saw this book I just needed to read it.
It is about second chance romance. This is a second book in the series, but It can be read as stand alone.
I thought that I would love this book a lot more. It was okay, but it is not a wow book for me. Just a 3.5 stars.

Song for a Cowboy (a bit oddly named as Brock is more football icon than anything) is a solid romance about the aforementioned football star and Emmy Lou, a famous and much beloved county music star. Their history actually started and ended in high school; their romance abruptly ended (mostly due to someone's shenanigans). They are thrown back together several years later when they are both part of a charity campaign.

This story is the second of a series (the first about Emmy's twin sister and Jace). I didn't read the first novel, but I was still able to enjoy this one as a stand alone. That said, I think I would have enjoyed it better had I read Book 1 first.

The writing was very good even if the plot wasn't very original. I liked both characters quite a bit, but I think their path back to each other was choppy. I feel they could have resolved some of their issues before they started officially looking each other again. The end also felt a bit rushed.

That said, I would totally read the first book, and I'm looking forward to Sawyer's book one day.

I received an ARC off this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!

Star-crossed lovers, torn apart by misunderstandings, lack of communication and a close relative’s lies, meet again under the limelight in “Song for a Cowboy”, by Sasha Summers (Sourcebooks Casablanca).
Brock and Emmy Lou are relatable characters, young people who are decent and selfless. Their sweet and deep connection, the tenderness and immense pain between them during the separation are compelling dimensions of the story; and yet their status as celebrities, the fact the relationship is lived so much in the public sphere/social media might seem modern, appealing and normal for many readers but to me all this exposition/visibility just feels a bit odd.
A favorite author of mine, with awesome, full of heart stories, a smitten, intense hero, a beautiful cover and a title full of promise, but somehow I wasn’t as invested as I thought I would have been in these characters and their story. There’s an excess of public visibility whereas within the romantic couple communication is lacking even if at times they were screaming for intimacy and privacy.
The family drama, the predictable evil mother, a certain immaturity of the main leads weren’t appealing and even some interesting side characters like Sawyer – cool, intriguing, but stereotyped - didn’t move me that much.

Song for a Cowboy by Sasha Summers is the second book in her Kings of Country series. This story is a real winner. Emmy Lou King and Brock Watson were together in their teens. When Brock got a chance to play pro football he took it. Emmy Lou is one-third of the Three Kings, country music stars, along with her twin sister Krystal and brother Travis. Due to nefarious circumstances Emmy Lou and Brock were parted. Six years later they meet again and their second chance story is quite well done. Ms. Summers has a great series going here with Kings of Country. I have to say though I really, really, really dislike CiCi King, Emmy Lou's mother.

Emmy Lou is a famous country singer who is a bit fragile coming from a highly dysfunctional family. Brock is a football star who has loved Emmy since high school. Emmy Lou's mother drove a wedge between them then intercepted the letters they wrote one another 6 years ago. Now Emmy has a contract to sing at NFL games and she also works for a charity they both belong to. Will they begin to trust one another enough or will Emmy's mom be able to keep them apart forever?
This was a wonderful book. Although both main characters were supposed to be famous they were down to earth and engaging. They were written as people you might know and be friends with. Although the plot trope is a familiar one the author was able to give it a fresh writing. I would recommend this book to my patrons.

This Series introduced me to this Author; what a find. Her books have a storytelling feel and just flow. Once I start reading, it is hard to stop.
Emmy is the darling of Country Music; she loves all her fans. Brock is the face of football due to his talented career. A charity puts them together again after six years apart; we join the story here. Brock has not had it easy these last six years, as his father’s health declines, as well as a couple of significant injuries that have led to some bad decisions. Aunt Mo has held her family together.
Love is a gift unless your mother is CiCi King. She makes mommy dearest look like a kitten. Why the family has not kicked her to the curb is beyond me. It is hard to stay together when forces are separating you, and Momma King is a master manipulator. CiCi’s true colors were slightly exposed in Jace, book one, and we get a bigger picture now.

Can Brock and Emmy get past the hurt now that they have an opportunity to make it right? Have all the secrets and lies been exposed? What is left for us to learn in the next book.

2.5★

When I saw this book on Netgalley I knew I had to get it and that I would love it. I mean how can I not it has everything I love… Country-Star, football player, second chances and more. I was hyped to start it and even made sure I was not burned out on contemporary.

When I started it, I was soon to discover that I wasn’t sure if I would like. It had way too much angst, drama and convenient situations and meetings. And that was just the first 25% of the book.

Everything was so very hyped and dramatic for everyone and everything. That was also the same with Emmy Lou, Brock was not as bad and I liked him for the most part. While Emmy Lou had her funny and enjoyable moments for the most part, I was busy rolling my eyes at all the drama surrounding her at all times.

So overall I didn’t love the book, but I also didn’t hate it, it had some funny, cute just enjoyable and feel-good moments for sure.

Overall, I think I give it 2.5★. I think a lot of people who don’t mind all that overdone drama and angst will love this book. For me it’s a so-so. I liked the overall arc, just not all the drama and angst that sometimes seemed forced and too much for me.

2.5★
