I am a big Christine Feehan fan so liking this book was a given but I did not love it. I will continue with the series because I want the other characters stories- please give me Savage and Destroyer- but Reckless Road was just ok, in my opinion.

Player can create illusions with his mind, making people see things that aren’t there. If he holds this illusion to long it becomes reality, also causing migraines. After 72 hours of no sleep and holding an illusion, he stumbles home to find Zyah in his room. They have crazy sex, starting off this book with a bang but he can’t tell if she is real or an illusion and roughly dismisses her after. Once he realizes she is real and the only woman that takes away his headaches, he has to figure out how to win her back. Add in solving the mystery of who is robbing and attacking the elderly in the community, a health dose of paranormal and visits from characters in another series makes Reckless Road a rough ride to their HEA.

This is not a book to read if you haven’t read the others in the Torpedo Ink series. The backstories of these characters are all interwoven and tough. There are TW for child abuse, pededophilia, torture (very brutal) and suicidal thoughts. These themes run throughtout the series and do give the characters depth, how they have overcome all this trauma to be decent human beings is remarkable, but if you are uncomfortable with these, this series is not for you.

I felt less interested in Player and Zyah as our main characters. Players dismissal of her and her forgiveness was too quick for me. Since this is PNR I can suspend reality for a lot of the magical experiences (psychic connection, illusions) but the healing Player experiences was too much for me. Also I expect a lot of steam / sex from Feehan and while they started off hot and heavy, I missed some of the kink that the other books in the series explored.

Of course, I will read the rest of the series as they become available. But felt this book was just ticking off a box of getting Player his story, bringing us back to Hannah from the Drake Sisters series (Safe Harbor is her book and great) and keeping us intrigued on other members of Torpedo Ink. Savage, Destroyer and Alena each has great cameos that keep me wanting to know more about them.

Each one of these books I read makes me love these guys and their women more. Player and Zyah are certainly no different. When scorching love scenes, tearful moments of shame and pain and absolute adoration from these men make each one of these books imprint on your heart.

Gedeon “Player” Lazaroff is one of Torpedo Ink’s clamest members. Little rattles him, except when his gift of illusions gets the better of him. One night on the verge of losing it he meets Zyah, a beautiful woman who seduces him with every move and word. Now he just has to convince her to give a chance.

While this series started out pretty good, I feel with each book it gets more repetitive and lacking in story. I feel that the overall story was lacking in this book. It had some interesting ideas but just fell flat in the end. Nothing stood out in this book and it will quickly be forgotten.

I liked Player and Zyah, for the most part. They both had interesting abilities, especially Player with his illusions. But their relationship quickly became repetitive and slightly boring. I ended up skimming parts of it because of this.

Overall, this book was just ok. Nothing stands out and it will quickly be forgotten. Feehan’s books have felt very repetitive for a while now and it's possible this will be the last book I read of hers.

I think I’m done with this series. Actually, I’m not going to lie to myself. I’ve been dying to read Savage’s book since the beginning of this series. I had a very hard time reading Desolation Road, which I was really excited about. I wasn’t really expecting much from Reckless Road and I’m glad I didn’t because I could hardly stand reading it.

Player has always been the upbeat member of Torpedo Ink. He’s able to cast illusions and did so to give himself and the other kids in the prison hope. Then his psychic power started to morph into something else; something far more dangerous. Not only could Player cast illusions, but his illusions could turn into an alternate reality. When he’s in an alternate reality, it changes what happens in the real world, which is dangerous for everyone in the actual world.

Zyah was actually a very likable heroine. I enjoyed her immensely. That doesn’t mean I liked the book. See, Zyah can literally feel the earth under her feet. The day she meets Player, she knows he’s the one for her. Unfortunately he treats her like a piece of ass and Zyah wants nothing more to do with him.

Player realizes that he messed up the next morning. He remembers how he sent the woman away, but he thought it was all a dream. He had never had anything so beautiful come into his life and he wrecked it. It doesn’t matter what Zyah thinks of him, he will protect her and her grandmother at all costs when a group of roaming thieves start targeting the elderly in Caspar. Caspar is protected by Torpedo Ink and that means its residents are protected too.

I did enjoy the romance between Player and Zyah, but there were so many big misunderstandings that it was like reading a Judith McNaught book. Sweet baby Jesus, just get on the same page. I still have this niggling feeling in the back of my mind that Christine Feehan has turned her writing over to a ghost writer or someone is assisting her in writing. The writing just isn’t the same. I realize that writing may change over the course of an author’s career, but this much? I’m a sceptic.

An enchanting addition to this really phenom series! Player is such an unexpected character as he bucks the norm from other Torpedo Ink characters. Fun fifth installment of the Torpedo Ink Series. Character building is amazing in this book. This Contemporary Romance is refreshing read.
