Be Careful What You Wish For - Vivien Brown
If you could swap houses with someone anywhere in the UK where would you move to? That’s exactly what Prue and Madi do. Prue lives in a sleepy countryside village in Norfolk where everyone knows everyone’s business. Madi lives in busy London where you can be anonymous. They both want to escape from their lives for a while so agree to swap. Someone mysterious has been entering the London house and playing tricks but who? And why?
I did enjoy this book, it’s not as fast paced as other thrillers but that’s probably what I enjoyed most. It was a good story with lovely characters and a happy ending!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read an advance copy.

I was disappointed with this book, I thought it was going to be an 'edge of seater' but it just turned out to be an ok mystery.

Although it was well written unfortunately it didn't appeal to me but thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins (OMC) for giving me the opportunity to read this book

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC, Prue and Madi are both good, likable characters. I read a lot of thrillers, but in this case, the 'mystery' felt unnecessary. I enjoyed seeing Madi and Prue evolve and grow. The story was good-it reminded me of reading Maeve Binchy books, seeing into people's lives. (I love Maeve Binchy, so this a a big compliment.) This is a well-written book and is a solid 4.5 stars. I would read other books by this author!

Both Prue and Madi needed time "away from it all". So... they do a house swap. Madi (62) lives in London and before had a stage career. Yet now she had been ill for the last few months - she just had to get away from it all. (And maybe someone named George?) Prue, 24, living in the country, had done something so bad that she had to get away. London sounded perfect!. Prue's problem was Joseph Bartow whom she could not get out of her mind during her time in London.

Behind the scenes a sinister person "visits" the London house at night. (Does this person know that Prue is there at the moment?). Also, the event that had happened to Prue was bad enough to destroy her relationship with Joe. What was it?

The puzzles meld together in an quite excellent thriller ! A great read!!!

Many Thanks to HarperCollins UK / One More Chapter and NetGalley for a great slide into the unknown!!!

A good read.
Former actress Madi needs to escape from her lonely London life. She’s started to forget things and has the strongest sense she is being watched…Prue feels suffocated by her claustrophobic village life, especially when she is humiliated in the most public way. Now Prue is desperate for anonymity –whatever the cost.
It's characters were so so but the plot was good.
Thanks to NetGalley and One More Chapter for giving me an advance copy.

Because about a girl that lives in a small town that has some thing humiliating happen to her and will do anything to disappear. The only thing is something sinister follows her into the shadows. I highly recommend this one.

This was a page-turner and it pulled me right in. Prue, a twenty-four-year-old from a small village swaps homes with Madi, a sixty-two-year-old from London. They both have good reason to get away from home for a month and when the story opens the "Why?" is part of the mystery to be unravelled. The story is told primarily in the POVs of the two women but there is another POV that pops up along the way: that of a bitter stalker that we know from their first writing is going to do some physical damage or kill someone. The big mystery propelling this story is who is the bitter stalker with the plot? I so enjoyed trying to decipher that part of the story.

There's a bit of a tonal shift to the part of the story where we get to know Prue and Madi in the new homes and surroundings they've swapped. It was nice to see how both women had similarities and differences and got to know one another a bit through others. This part of the story felt more like your usual Women's Fiction (I hate that classification but I don't have any other signifier to convey this point) fare with heartwarming themes as both women healed, came out of themselves more and became part of their new communities. I admit that this wasn't the big pull for me as a reader but it did lend a more hopeful tone and certainly did make me hope that neither woman was done in by the book's end.

No spoilers but this did end very well. I had my suspicions about the bitter stalker's identity as more characters were introduced but there was always one important thing that the reader doesn't have the answer or any clue to before the denouement. That was a bit frustrating but that's just a personal preference for how I like my mystery reads to proceed. The cover hints at a darker tale than I felt this resolved into but I do love the cover. It's what caught my eye and part of why I requested the ARC.

Recommended.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the Advance Reader's Copy of this book.

First of all, this isn't in anyway a psychological thriller. It is, however, a well written, cosy, mystery with good characterisation and a decent plot that flows along.

Madi and Prue decide to do a house swap for a month. Madi has health issues and wants to escape the cut and thrust of London, plus, she believes herself to be losing her memory, Prue is looking for the opposite, needing to get away from her grandma's cosy village cottage where a recent embarrassment haunts her.

The mystery comes from someone entering one of the properties, without the owner being aware. Who are they? and why do they appear to harbour dangerous thoughts against the owner?
What follows is a story from both Madi and Prue and the intruder.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview this good read.

spoiler alert ** 2.5 stars

Really not sure what to make of this book.
A good 80% of it reads like some sort of chicklit, with the odd slightly menacing page thrown in.
Then it goes all surprise twist to the story before back to chicklit.
Characters were engaging enough, and it was an easy read.
I'm undecided.
