I love how when you read books by Ms Caplin you feel like you have been magically transported to the destination and are there experiencing all the sights, sounds and smells. She captures it so well that I always have a burning desire to visit the places in her books and experience it all first hand. Having not been able to venture far this year due to the pandemic this came as a welcome release at just the right time!

And so to the story itself - Mina is what some may describe as a real live wire and likes to rush around, and into things, without fully thinking them through. After a dinner party she arranges doesn’t completely go to plan (slight understatement) she takes the bull by the horn and decides to visit her godmother (Amelie) in Switzerland. At the same time she makes the decision that she has to try to slow down and be less impulsive which is all good until she meets the male equivalent of herself - surely he can’t be good for her?

This is another fantastic book by Ms Caplin and a five star read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Mina travels to her godmother cottage in Switzerland. Her love of chocolate will try to help keep her mind off of her most recent relationship disaster. This was an enjoyable and quick read.

I’ve been enjoying Julie Caplin books for a little while now, so I was pleased to receive a review copy of this book.

This story was a lot of fun. Mina has got into rather a rut with her life, and so she visits her godmother in Switzerland.

I really enjoyed reading about Switzerland, especially the chocolate and cheese. The skiing and the scenery also made a lovely setting. The way that Luke and Mina met was very entertaining, and I loved the fact that as well as having fun together, they were supportive of one another’s dreams.

If you’re looking for a fun escape, with a great atmosphere, this could be the book for you. It’s perfect for enjoying with some chocolate or cake.

I was given a free copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

This book ended up being a bit of a surprise for me. I loved the small mountain town setting, but I was a bit surprised by just how much skiing was in this book. I know, the word ‘ski’ is literally in the title, but based on the book description, I was expecting more food and less skiing. The food inclusion definitely did come later into the book, and that’s when this really became. un-put-down-able to me.

While I very much enjoyed the romance, I loved that this was so much more than just a romance novel. I loved Mina’s growth and acceptance of herself, and the bond between Amelie and Mina was lovely to read about. I did find it a bit confusing that Mina would refer to Miriam & Derek by their names, or Aunty M & Uncle D, or as her adopted parents. The way her references to them kept changing sometimes made it feel like they were all different people.

I was originally feeling like the ending was bordering on being a bit cheesy, but the last line made it the perfect ending for me. Just because I am personally not a fan of skiing, the book started a bit slow to me, but I know that that’s totally a personal thing. Once that grew on me, I couldn’t get enough of the story & I recommend checking it out for a cute, enjoyable read!

Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter & NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a review!

I’ve never been to a tiny Swiss village or gone skiing, but I feel that I got to enjoy the heroine, Mina’s, experiences as she flees her home in England after an embarrassing end to her relationship with her boyfriend. She goes to visit her godmother who operates a lovely-sounding chalet that caters to people who want a homey place to stay while they head out skiing. Mina is a chef, who wants to specialize in desserts and bring new taste combinations to people. Her godmother specializes in cooking traditional Swiss food. Everything sounds lovely. And it helps that she meets a guy with whom she has a lot in common and they start falling for each other.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

When Mina’s latest relationship disaster goes viral, she decides to take time out and visit her Godmother , Amelie, in the Swiss Alps. Amelie runs a much loved and highly in demand ski chalet where she brings people together through a love of cake and kindness. Mina is desperate need of both. Then she meets a stranger on an alpine train … does serendipity really exist?

This book was really cute and fun. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and I really identified with Mina. I think she’s a character we can all relate to- someone who gets caught up in the moment, swept away, and acts before she thinks. I think we are all guilty of that! I also really enjoyed the scenery descriptions in the book...it made me feel like I traveled to Europe! I also really enjoyed that this was a quick, easy read...something light and fun for the holidays!

Do you believe in serendipity? Luke does! I definitely fell in love with this sweet story about fate and healing. I found myself laughing out loud at times and at others, wanting to read until my eyes wouldn't stay open any longer. This is a good one!! I definitely recommend you check it out! Prepare to be hooked!

Another brilliant book to curl up with a mug of hot chocolate and dream of the Swiss mountains. After Mina takes revenge on her cheating boyfriend she decides to visit her godmother at the ski chalet. This is an irresistible page turner and a book I am so glad I read. The swiss recipes her and her godmother create for the visitors to the chalet sound amazing. The ski slopes and the cross country skiing are beautifully described and I can't wait for my next visit to Switzerland to visit the chocolate factory.

Yes, there is romance but this book is so much more, it's like a visit to Switzerland that leaves you wanting more.

Oh my word. I loved every single bit of this book. I fell in love with every character and I could picture this amazing chalet as I read. Luke and Mina and their interactions kept me turning the pages. I couldn’t wait to see the next Swiss cake they’d mention and I wish I could try every single one of them!!

Mina escapes to the Swiss Alps after finding out her boyfriend is cheating on her with one of her oldest friends. She still has to work with her ex, and after an incident is engoucraged to take some time off.
A chance encounter on the train introduces her to Luke, but he leaves it to serendipity to see if they meet again.

Some grat food is mentioned, not just the cheese and chocolate, but the cakes sound amazing!

A great read and looking forward to the next book in the series!

If you think you are going to be able to read this book without a bar of chocolate on hand, you are living dangerously close to the edge. You just wait until the protagonist enters a boutique chocolate shop and the author seduces your salivary glands with her prose. Trust me, you’ll be reaching for the chocolate. Julie Caplin’s ‘The Little Swiss Chalet’ to be published January 30, 2012, is the seventh book in the Romantic Escapes series. Perfectly enjoyed as a stand-alone, this is exactly what the world needs right now – escape from our lockdown and an opportunity to travel again!

Mina from Manchester thought she had it all: the perfect job as a food technician, supportive family, and a dreamy boyfriend who not only lasted longer than the other men in her life but was open to discussing marriage and moving in together. In true Mina style, she planned a Mexican themed party complete with a pinata and was brazen enough to propose to Simon in front of all their friends. Unfortunately, getting married to Mina wasn’t Simon’s long-range plan and suddenly the fiesta wasn’t the only thing wrecked in Mina’s life. Escaping from ‘Smurfgate,’ Mia hotfoots off to her aunt’s ski chalet in Reckington, a small alpine village in the foothills of the Swiss Alps. Will two weeks help her refocus and clear her mind of Simon? Does she discover that chocolate really does solve everything?

I don’t often reach for a romance novel because I find them too sickly sweet and oftentimes too raunchy for my liking. However, I took a gamble on this one because I love travelling and trying different foods. This read surpassed my expectations. Not only was my inner foodie satisfied, but also my wanderlust at a time when travel is restricted. Caplin’s easy reading story, filled with a cast of interesting and relatable chalet guests, and the perfect mix of romance will tug at your heartstrings. You’ll be rooting for this strong-willed and clever protagonist as she struggles with who she is and what she’s looking for in a romance. You’ll love it when Mina finds a connection and obvious chemistry with one of the guests; finally, a couple who are worthy of each other. Perhaps you’ll even giggle to yourself as I did and think that she can throw away the bottle of hair dye as she won’t be needing it this time around! As is true of this genre, there’s conflict challenging Mina’s relationships that needs to be overcome and in doing so she experiences unconditional love leaving the ending on a high note. Willy Wonka, eat your heart out! I will be reading the previous 6 books in this series and anxiously awaiting the next heartwarming instalment, book 8, where readers will be travelling to Ireland with Mina’s sister, Hannah.

Thank you to Julie Caplin, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for this 5-star advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

After discovering her boyfriend is cheating on her, and being publicly humiliated, our protagonist heads off to a ski chalet for a little rest and recovery. What she finds, instead, is a double dose of serendipity. A love relationship with twists and turns, a beautiful ending, and enough chocolate to make you gain five pounds just by reading about it!
