I have to say this book took me by surprise. It was incredible. I was not expecting to read what I did and am so glad I took a chance on this book and author. The storytelling is phenomenal and keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing till the end. Just when you think you know what’s going on there’s another curveball. It’s a suspenseful and thrilling ride that leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.

This was not what I was expecting at all. The suspense was killing me, you just had to keep reading to see what was going to happen. There were a lot of shady characters and you did not know who to trust. Immediately you are suspicious of Lila and you know why…plus it’s all laid out for you. Then the tables are turned, and you are like what in the world is going on here! At that point everyone becomes a suspect to me. I really admired Ginny’s tenacity. She was determined to get to the bottom on this. Her gut instincts knew the truth of the matter. Aaron and Jared were vile human beings and need no further explanation. This was a very good read, a real page turner.

Buckle in, my friends!

Lila offs her jackwagon of a husband and then she puts him in his car, drives him to his job, and leaves him there.

But he and his car disappear before he is discovered and now he has been reported missing. Is he out there waiting, stalking, and looking for revenge or is something much, much worse happening?

I lost much of yesterday to this dazzling thriller and I have no regrets whatsoever. It was so well-written and it zinged to a quite satisfying conclusion.

One of the better books I have read in a long time!

Thank you to HarperCollins Publishers, William Morrow Paperbacks for sharing an ARC with me. It was my pleasure to write an honest review!

A woman’s life is turned upside down after her narcissistic <>husband goes missing. Leaving his keys, wallet...behind. What happened to him?

The monologue would drag a little and I struggled a bit with the writing style at first. Towards the middle, things started to pick up so I found myself engrossed and curious about how it would unfold. The list of suspects is short, and the culprit was entirely guessable. However, I liked the concept and I might’ve liked it better if it had been executed differently. A good read nonetheless.

Brilliant and thrilling from the beginning to end! Words can not describe how amazing this book is. The flow of the story was steady leading up to the climax. Just as I thought I had it figured it out, I realized I didn't. At one point, everyone became a suspect to me, no matter how small their motives would be. About 63% into the book the author, Darby Kane, threw a bomb into the middle of my theory. In the end, my theory was nowhere near what Kane had written. Each character had a full background and I got pulled into their lives. Even the supporting character like Cassie came alive in the story. Without having to go from past to present to layout the lives of each character like other books, it was a clever and enjoyable style of writing. It helped me to get submerged into the story a lot quicker. This story should be picked up by Apple TV+ for a miniseries just like the book Defending Jacob. This is so much better. I can hardly wait for her next book.

Thank you to @harpercollins and @netgalley for the eARC of Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane. This is a debut thriller novel by Darby Kane; who also writes romance novels. I wasn't sure what to expect Kane delivers a gripping and faced paced thriller that I just couldn't put down.

Aaron and Lila have moved to New York from North Carolina. Aaron works at the local high school and Lila is a real estate agent. Aaron is beloved by the community and his coworkers. However, at home he is not the same person. Aaron is actually hiding quite a few secrets. Lila is too. Lila receives a phone call from the high school when Aaron does not show up for work one day. Lila knows where he is because she is the last person to see him. She will keep that to herself. When she goes to see where he is; he's missing. Lila panics. She has no idea where Aaron is. So, what has happened to Aaron? There are several people who may want Aaron to disappear. Is Lilia one of them? No spoilers, you will have to read to find out just what it going on in this small New York town.

Darby Kane has written an excellent thriller! This one is a quick and faced pace read. You keep turning the pages wanting to know what happened and just when you think you have it figured out; twist!!!!!!!! I loved this debut thriller! I highly recommend it! Pretty Little Wife will be released on 12/29/2020. Put it on your TBR list now!

The mystery of this novel is well done—it’s really different mysteries to be solved by different people until it is ultimate revealed to us, the readers. It’s a mystery to Lila, who had already survived something unimaginable as a child only to grow up and discover her husband isn’t who she thought he was; instead, he is as evil as what she escaped. The dead body of Lila’s husband is a mystery to Ginny, the lead detective on the case. And the three girls with long brunette hair who went missing is a mystery to absolutely everyone.

While I was compelled to finish and find out who did it, there was something missing in the narrative to me—I didn’t care as much as I would have liked, and I didn’t feel quite as satisfied as some suspense novels leave me at the end.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this novel, which RELEASES DECEMBER 29, 2020.

Holy cow. What did I just read?!? This suspenseful, crazy ride was way more than I was expecting when I began reading this book. Murder, adultery, lies, and many other horrible things fill the pages of this novel, which keeps you second guessing your theories until the very end. Wow. My brain was just blown.

An Captivating Story of Murders, Betrayal, and Sleeping With Students

The novel opens up with Lila throwing a fit and tearing up her bedroom and elsewhere looking for Aaron’s, her husband, secret cell phone. She couldn’t unsee what she had seen! Her husband comes home and tries to dominate her and tell her that it isn’t what she thinks it is. What follows is mostly a diatribe against her husband until near the end. Aaron is a high school math teacher. Brent, Aaron’s principal and best friend shows up at his house one morning asking where Aaron is. Lila’s tells him that he is at school. A literary grenade goes off. Lila thinks to herself that she killed him and left him in his car on the high school grounds. The second literary grenade goes off. His car is not on the high school grounds! Is he alive? She had to find him before he finds her. I was hooked!

Having been called by Brent, Ginny Davis, Senior Investigator from the local Sheriff’s Office, shows up to obtain what initial information she can. Although Lila thinks everything is going south very quickly, she keeps herself calm. Ginny finds Lila very detached and unconcerned. Lila’s answers to Ginny are very measured and offer the bare minimum of information. The game of cat and mouse starts. The main storyline is not that simple but much more rich. The environment is one of several missing girls that are the focus of an FBI lead task force. Lila and her husband have pasts that they would rather keep secret. While Ginny focused on Lila, the investigation uncovers other possible suspects that must be investigated. While I was hooked early, the richness of the storyline kept me hooked throughout the whole novel.

This is a debut novel and appears to be a standalone novel so much of the B-storyline threads can be considered part of the main storyline. There is extensive background for Lila and her husband, of course, from the perspective of Lila. The background on the other characters is enough to understand the reasoning of their actions. The only other character with an extensive background is Ginny, the investigator. Insight to her background and her rocky path to and in her current position along with her family life proves a solid character. She has a junior partner so much of her character is revealed as she tutors her partner. These storyline threads contributed to my enjoyment in reading this novel.

I especially enjoyed two aspects in this novel First was the questioning of Lila by Ginny, who continually changes the line of inquiry trying to trip up Lila, who while internally in turmoil keeps herself calm and answer the questions with the minimum of information. This enhanced the cat and mouse aspect of the novel. The second was the high level of suspense that the author was able to maintain throughout the novel.

All of the above was achieve with not much vulgar language, and implied but no descriptive intimate scenes. There was one religious name taken in vain. All violence is described after the fact so it is less edgy. There is some pedophilia with teenage girls with references to evidence of such activity so this novel is adult content.

This novel was very enjoyable to read. All of the requirements for a high star rating were present. My opinion was cemented by the verbal duels between Lila and Ginny. The plot twists occurred right up to the end of the novel. I do not remember any loose ends. I rate this debut novel with five stars. If the teaser interests you, I believe you will enjoy reading this novel also.

I have received a free e-book version of this novel through NetGalley from HarperCollins Publishers with an expectation for an honest, unbiased review. I wish to thank HarperCollins Publishers for the opportunity to read and review this novel early.

When a wife finds out something disturbing about her husband, she takes care of it... or does she?

Lila is a bit of a loner and married to a quirky high school teacher. He disappears the same time as 3 women.

While the first half of the book felt slow to me, the second half sped by. I thought I had the surprise ending all figured out, but turns out I was off track!

Overall this was an enjoyable, quick thriller read. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you for the advanced reader copy (ARC) HarperCollins!

In short:
Aaron was (is?) well-liked by his brother, peers, students, and neighbors, so when he goes missing everyone is beside themselves with worry. Well, everyone except Lila. Lila was the last person to see her husband's body, and now it's missing.

In review:
ARC's are a bit hit or miss, and in truth, I've grown a bit wary of them. This debut by Darby Kane was a hit, and it took me by surprise. Pretty Little Wife is well crafted, and really just a lot of fun to dive into. I know some reviewers didn't take to Lila, but man do I love a wronged woman serving up just deserts.

I would actually give this book a 3.5 but I will round it up to 4 for good plot. My initial thought of this book is it is too long. I think it could use a good editing to make the flow better. It is an interesting plot and a good leading lady with many flaws. Lila Ridgefield is a trophy wife. Or at least that is what her husband, Aaron, wants her to be. But nothing as it seems. Lila finds Aaron’s secret phone that has inappropriate videos of him with his students. Disgusted by her husband, Lila comes up with a plan that leads to the disappearance of her husband. An investigator is assigned to find Aaron and she starts from investigating Lila. As Aaron’s body is missing, Lila has to figure out how to get out of this mess while exposing who Aaron really is.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishers/ William Morrow Paperbacks for sharing this e-Arc with me in exchange my honest review.

Now that's what a wow debut. What a mind-blowing, wild ride of a missing husband thriller perfect for anyone looking for a good thrill.

I was first attracted to this book thanks to its cover, which I think is perfect for what it represents. This novel is about Lila, a seemingly absolutely normal woman living in an idyllic little college town. Except, she's not. And her handsome teacher husband Aaron is missing. The problem is, Lila was the last person who saw him, and she recently found out about his pervy infidelities .But that's not all - there are three girls missing in the area, and their cases might be connected to Aaron's disappearence.

Oh my goodness, this book is the definition of "I couldn't put it down." Lila is such a great, flawed character with her strong personality and successful career. In addition, the real twisted story pulled me in whole - so I have no choice but give it 5 stars.

Lila has lost herself and is in a marriage where her husband berates and belittles her. She finds something that makes her snap out of it and look at her marriage in a different light. When he goes missing the investigator starts looking at Lila. It becomes a bit of a game between the two. This book is full of suspense and the twists were great. I absolutely loved this book and it’s ending!

This is a fun book with a clever plot. The story begins when the main character, who is not always sympathetic, finds her husband’s secret phone containing extremely incriminating videos. They fight, they reconcile, and then the husband disappears. Did his beautiful, but emotionally distant wife, Lila, have anything to do with his disappearance? Lila doesn’t seem to know where he is and she should; because she left his body and car where they would be easily found after she killed him. Besides a dead body that can’t be found, there are missing teenage girls, a determined policewoman and a plethora of twists and turns in this riveting page-turner.
