This book was definitely a winner for this year. I read it in about four hours- I could not put it down. The plot was completely unpredictable.

I have to say I was not able to complete this book. Chapters and chapters of bad decision, unlikeable characters. Originally I was interested, but lost interest in what might have happened long before there was any resolution.

Wow! A great thriller! Rich, believable characters drive a well-crafted tale of a friendship and a marriage both tainted by deceit. So many twists, I though I had it figured out...and I did partly, but not entirely. A fast read with a great heart thumping ending.

Interesting, fast paced and will keep you guessing until the end! Would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good thriller!

Orla and Kate were best friends, they have been through everything together. Orla is married now with a baby, Kate is a career woman living the single life, They both needed a break and decided to get away for a weekend to Portugal, a few days to relax,

There are so many twists and turns it will keep you guessing until the end. One of the friends does not return home from the trip. The book was very good.

The Weekend Away by Sarah Alderson is a page-turning thriller I couldn't put down... literally. .I was being prepped for surgery and only put it down to have the surgery!
Orla and Kate have been best friends for ages. Orla, the responsible one, settled down and had a child with a sweet, doting husband while Kate remained a fré spirit until her late 30s marrying (and ultimately divorcing) for money. Since they were in their early 20s they have taken a girls trip once each year to somewhere around the world.. Lately, however, they haven't had a chance and when Kate suggests a weekend in Lisbon, Orla gladly accepts thinking a weekend away from motherhood responsibilities will do her good. Thing go south quickly when Orla realizes Kate doesn't have the same, relaxing weekend in mind as she does. Kate wants to party like they are still in their 20s, clubbing, drinking and even wants to bring back two men they just met in a bar. Orla, feeling unusually drunk falls into bed while Kate enjoys the men's company. The next day when Orla wakes up, the two men are gone. So is Kate. No note, no text, and her phone goes straight to voicemail. She's vanished and it's up to Orla to find out what happened to her.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this novel. 2 Stars. The book focused on what was going on in the present between everyone but didn’t provide enough on how they came to be in the situation they put themselves in. This domestic thriller fell flat for me.

I loved this book and would have awarded it five stars but the ending left me disappointed. However, it was a great read and would highly recommend it. Some readers might love the ending, so I still want to praise the wonderful writing and the plot as well as the characters. Unusual twists throughout the book and really kept me guessing. Unpredictable and wonderful.

For those who love a good vacation gone wrong book this a great choice!

In The Weekend Away, two best friends go away on vacation and only one of them comes back.

I listened to most of this on audio, and I loved every minute of it. Loved the awkward conversations between the two characters, the mystery after the disappearance, and every minute until the very end. This was so close to being a 5 star read for me, but I hated the ending. I still highly recommend this one, just know you might not be a fan of how this one ends.

WOW! What a great book. This one will keep you guessing to the very end.. it has it all. The story begins quick and does not let up the pace. Great development of the characters without unnecessary details. I hope Netflix picks up the rights to this one to create it into a movie. When this comes out in April I am sure it will be on the bestseller list!

This was a really great escapish book. It would be the perfect beach/vacation read to keep you interested. I found the overrall plot and ending somewhat predictable, but I was able to stay invested and wanted to see how it played out. I liked most of the characters, despite some of the plot holes with them. Definitely recommend if you are just wanting something quick and entertaining but aren't expecting it to change your life.

I have always loved books like this and Alderson's was refreshing! Honestly, I was hooked just from the synopsis, and I'm so thankful to have been given the chance to read this book. I look forward to suggesting it to many of my mystery-reading friends!

This book sucked me in, then bored me. The writing and somewhat intriguing storyline kind of faded by the middle which is not what I want from this type of book. I enjoyed the Portuguese location and the idea but it fell short for me.

Orla is a new mother with a charming husband that urges her to spend a short weekend away with her best friend Kate. Kate has a high profile job, fabulous salary and rich and wild tastes. She whisks Orla away to beautiful Portugal, new clothes, new makeup, a great evening of food and drinks and later meeting two attractive single men who she invites back to their apartment.
The next morning Orla wakes up in Lisbon to find Kate missing, the unknown men, Joaquin and Emmanuel are gone and the police are ready to involve her in what becomes a murder investigation.
Plenty of plot twists and turns and a few real surprises. Great read!
