I really liked Maybe One Day and connected with the story. It was told in such a heartfelt, sensitive, emotional way that really hit home for me. Debbie Johnson gives us the tale of Jess and her quest to reconnect with her long lost love, Joe. There are so many different circumstances that come into play to tell their story, and it is fascinating to uncover the truth about what happened with Joe as Jess meets various characters to help her do just that. These characters were well-described and easy to connect with as well, and I highly recommend this book for someone interested in a poignant romance who is not afraid of shedding some tears!

Jess meets Joe on her first day in a new school. This meeting would change both of their lives forever. Due to tragic events and the manipulation of Jess's supposed well meaning parents, they are kept apart. When Jess's mother dies, she finds a box of letters from Joe in the attic that have been kept from her. Along with her cousin and a friend, Jess sets out to find Joe by following the clues in the letters. In the process of looking for him, she comes to terms with her circumstances and learns about the people Joe's life has touched while on his own search for peace.

I loved this story. There are some truly heart crushing moments in this book as well hopeful ones. I looked forward to every new twist and turn in Jess's search for Joe hoping that they would be given a second chance at a life together. A wide variety of people are encountered along the way, and their unique stories make the overall story richer. This is not exactly the read I expected. It was so much better than I expected. I can't wait to recommend it to my book club and hopefully use it for a group read.

My sincere thanks to William Morrow and Custom House as well as NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion of it.

Maybe One Day is a heartwarming, melancholic story about a young woman, Jess, who discovers a secret about her lost love Joe when cleaning out the attic after her mother's funeral. Jess and her friends take a whirlwind trip to find out what really happened and discover many surprising things about Joe along the way. Debbie Johnson's writing has a warm, soft, melodic quality to it that wraps you up like a big blue fluffy blanket to soften the blow of all the sadness in this story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to read more by Debbie Johnson.

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I have become a Debbie Johnson fan. This story is so far out of my comfort zone, yet I could not put it down. I must have needed a good cleansing cry because I got it, in addition to a fantastic story.
In many ways, this story hit close to home, the controlling parents, and the lies. What you “should” do. The path Jess takes to find answers has me living every emotion with her. The characters she meets along the way tell her a different story about her lost love. Will she find Joe?

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow and Custom House for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

A book of love, loss, second chances, and friendship. Joe and Jess from vastly different fell in love until tragedy strikes and they lose each other. This is Jess's adventure in trying to find Joe after many years with minimal clues. You will laugh and cry. Great read. It also makes you wonder how many lives you touch and if someone could find you with minimal clues. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC

Joe and Jess meet the first day of her college freshman year. I fell in love with them both right away. Joe seemed like that bad boy with a good heart that is irresistible. They come from very different backgrounds.

The journey that is their life’s is an amazing story that I am so glad it got to read. I started and could not put this book down. This is such an interesting book and the lessons learned along the journey of life are sometimes so amazing that we all have been through many various routes Jess following her journey and being along for the ride of Joe’s life was so heartfelt and endearing. I felt like I was right there beside them every step of the way. The author just drew the scene with words so beautifully written and put together so well you will enjoy the journey too.

This is one of the best books I have read in such a long time, I’m glad I got to take the trip through this book. Now I want to read more of the books by this author! I’m a new Debbie Johnson fan!!!!

This is my honest review for an advanced readers copy of the book.

We meet Jess on the day of her mother's funeral. She has spent the last several years caring for her incapacitated mother, barely living her own life. She goes with her younger cousin Michael into the attic and discovers a shoebox full of old letters.

This seems like a story you've heard a thousand times before, but it's not.

Along the way, each character you meet is richly developed, with a back story of their own, that doesn't detract from the overall story. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you may even sob. I know I did.

What a beautiful story and so well written. I loved it.

This book was well written but the ending was very abrupt.

Jess believed that Joe abandoned her after their daughter's death. Seventeen years later, after her mother dies she finds letters from him. She uses this as inspiration to find him.

This book is well paced and never felt like a slog. However, I never felt much from it. Because I only hear about him second hand, Joe is a mythological character. Not fully fleshed out The other characters are well written but he's such a central character that it feel unbalanced. In the end, there should be some epilogue to see what happens after that journey.

Well written story with an ending for which you should have tissues handy. However I had difficulty connecting with the main character and being engaged in the outcome.

This was awesome book. I only wish it hadn’t ended so soon. There are so many lines that will resonate with readers of al ages. I would love to read a spin-off about Michael and Belinda. The pace of the plot is realistic. It’s a page turner because just when you think they’ve found the love of Jess’ life, the story takes a different turn.

This book was a heartrending and beautiful novel that tells a story of regrets and second chances. This one hooked me from the first page, and I felt invested in Jess's story and what had caused the sadness that radiated from her. As we move along in the story, we come to understand that tragedy has played a major role in how her life has unfolded, and, the closer we get to finding out what that tragedy is, the more I found myself truly dreading the details of it.

Debbie Johnson does a masterful job of making the reader feel exactly what the characters in story are at any given time. I felt the deep well of sadness and grief in Jess, the uncertainty of Michael, and deep anger at Jess's parents.

Maybe One Day is a truly moving tale that shows us their is hope after tragedy. I would highly recommend this book to other readers.

This is a lovely novel about a woman who had lost everything, but by finding a box of letters, she was able to search for the missing pieces. On the day of her mother’s funeral, Jess and her young cousin discovered a hidden trove of unexplained cards and letters.

After reading them, Jess learns that on top of the awful tragedy of her life, her parents hid away the remnants of her existence. Despite the fact that Jess had suffered a mental collapse, her misery was compounded because of the abandonment her great love. So, Jess, Michael and friend Belinda follow the clues on the envelopes and try to find Joe.

This is a lovely and very sad journey. The three manage to recreate Joes life and follow his travels. The author creates a beautiful closure, and tears for the reader.
