A Curious Incident by Vicki Delany is the sixth book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mysteries series. This is the first book I've read from the author, but I will now be reading her other works. This novel follows Gemma and Jayne as they solve the murder of this year's local garden tour winner.

There were so many things I enjoyed about this novel. First, was the friendship between Gemma and Jayne. Not only are the two women efficient business partners, but they are also great friends. They understand and support each other in the way that only true lifelong friends do. I always enjoy reading about strong female friendships in this novel and I appreciated how the female characters were at the center of this novel.

Second, the Cape Cod setting was a great choice for this cozy mystery. The small-town charm really draws readers in. Delany had me envisioning the setting so clearly without being too wordy.

Lastly, the mystery itself was quite well done. The outcome was unpredictable and the pacing of the novel had me wanting to rush to the end but also read every word. Gemma is a fabulous protagonist, and it was wonderful to see her interact with Lauren throughout the novel. I appreciate that every secondary character had a purpose and was not simply a filler character.

As hard as it might be to believe, Gemma Holmes is influenced by a child to solve a murder. When gardening expert Anna Wentworth is murdered, everyone is certain it was archrival Sheila Tierney who killed her. Sheila's 10-year-old daughter knows that can't be true and she begs Gemma to take her mother's case. Reluctant because of her relationship with Detective Ryan Ashburton, Gemma is drawn in. Before Anna was killed, someone destroyed Sheila's prize garden, Naturally that leads her to be the number one suspect and her unpleasant personality makes people certain she committed the crime. When someone is poisoned, Gemma knows she is on the right track. Enjoyable mystery with a few red herrings thrown in for good measure.

If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, you’ll love Vicki Delany’s Gemma. She is a transplanted Englishwoman who embodies the spirit of Holmes in her observations and deductions. A CURIOUS INCIDENT is the sixth book in the Sherlock Bookshop Mysteries by Vicki Delany, and with this newest addition, confirms why this series is one of my favorites! Protagonist Gemma Doyle, may at times, be an abrupt quirky character and can be a bit off-putting to some. From my viewpoint though, I’ve found her to be a refreshing change from the typical amateur sleuth in cozy mysteries. And with the Sherlock Bookshop that she co-owns with her uncle, her personality fits into the character of the great detective himself: hyper-observant, methodical analyzation of facts, and no hesitation in offering opinions. That said, in this newest book, the author has expanded Gemma’s personality and shown a softer, more caring side via her interaction with 10-year-old Lauren. Plus there’s a greater interjection of humor throughout the storyline. British Gemma’s misuse of American words had me laughing several times and overall the book has a cheerful feel, despite the murder.

The story starts out with Lauren deciding she has to hire Gemma to find her cat, no matter that Gemma says she can’t do it. But Gemma’s dog, Violet, comes to the rescue and solves the case. Shortly thereafter, Lauren is back and hires Gemma to prove her mom’s innocence in a murder she’s been accused of committing. From there the reader is taken on an engaging page turner as Gemma struggles to do what’s best for Lauren and keep her detective boyfriend from getting angry over her investigations. Not only does Ms. Delany write a strong character-driven story, her well-plotted mystery is solid. With some twists and turns I didn’t see coming and plenty of suspects unearthed to keep me guessing, I was entertained with each turn of the page. I didn’t want to put it down even though I wanted to slowly savor the read since I’ll have to impatiently wait another year before the next book releases.

This was really fun and cozy read.
I had not read the previous books and I did feel a disconnect with the characters at the beginning. But that's on me. The protagonist, Gemma is a fascinating character similar to Sherlock Holmes with quite a few weird manners. I enjoyed the the other characters as well and they fit very well into the story.
The setting descriptions are good. I loved the concept of Sherlock Holmes book shop - the very reason why I picked up this book.
The mystery was well written with a lot of clues which kept me engaged. I was guessing the killer throughout the plot until he/she was revealed at the end.

Overall a really good cozy mystery. The previous books of this series will be getting on my TBR list.

I was delighted to be treated to an advanced reading copy through Netgalley, of Vicki Delaney's January 2021 Release, A curious Incident. I love this series, this book for me was an especially great read and a nice distraction from the world. I loved being able to travel by book back to the spend time with Jayne and Gemma, and have no problems imagining being in the shop and the tea room, being part of this reluctant and nosy crime solving team. I very much enjoyed the interactions of the characters and the age difference between Jayne and 10 year old Lauren, the dynamic felt natural and was a nice side of character Jayne to see. I hope Lauren will be back in future stories. This was a great read and one I think you are going to love too, lots of good feels and I did not have it figured out until the big reveal!

This 6th installment in the Sherlock Holmes Mystery series is once again, entertaining, and this time, I learned quite a bit about gardening, as well.

The characters in this series are becoming old friends, though I need to start at the beginning and catch up on this series.

I look forward to future installments and, speaking from experience, I can heartily recommend this book even to those who haven't read the earlier books.

I truly love this series. The characters are unique and fun, and as a Sherlock Holmes fan, the frame of the stories is something I really enjoy.

This entry in the series I think is one of the strongest (though I did really enjoy the last one, as well) and can be enjoyed as a single entry. It has the fun addition of Lauren, a young girl who joins in on the mystery - a murder, a garden club kerfuffle, and a missing cat.

I love the relationship between Gemma and Jayne, and how they balance one another and rely on one another. Gemma is getting a little more relatable - not quite so lofty - and I think Jayne has a lot to do with the. There is also a lot of Donald in this story, ans I really like that. It's like Genmma is finally recognizing she has a village.

The one thing I didn't like is the relationship between Ryan and Gemma in this book. I am not a huge fan of Ryan anyway, but in this book I felt like he was overly dismissive of Gemma. And Estrada is always over the top for me; as if she's written to be as insulting and horrible as possible.

Overall, though, as I said this is a really fun read.

As with the installments before, this book was so entertaining. Starting this book is like visiting old friends you missed dearly, and spend a number of chapters catching up with. Everything about this book is wonderful, the characters, the plot, even the characters I might not be fans of. Run, not walk, and get a copy of this book today.

Gemma is drawn into a mystery from the start of this novel. A young girl asks her to locate her missing kitten. At first she is reluctant to agree to the job however everyone of value in her life has faith in her ability to reunite this girl with her pet.

When Lauren, (The young girl), returns asking for Gemma's help again. Her Mother has been accused of murder. The local garden club is having a fund raiser garden tour. The visitors will vote the best garden which will than receive a plaque to display in their garden. Lauren's Mother threatened the victim when her garden was vandalized and she believed the victim to have done it. That evening te murder occurs.

Gemma and Jayne, her business partner in the tea shop, must tread carefully. Gemma's boyfriend and his partner do not want or need her help. Gemma trys her best to stay out of the crime. Clues keep falling in her lap. She invariably decides that she is the only one who can solve the murder,

This is the sixth in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series. This is a stand alone novel. I have read the others in this group and I love how the supporting cast of characters have been developed and are multi dimensional. They add to the color of the stories. I highly recommend not only this installment but all of the others,

Here I am again jumping into a series at book six instead of starting at the beginning. It was okay though as this book was just fine read as a stand alone. The characters were strong and understandable with the minimum of back story, and the story was complete within the book.

The main character, Gemma Doyle, runs a book store, is a Sherlock Holmes tragic, and shares a number of characteristics with the famous detective. When a local citizen has her garden wrecked and another one is found murdered Gemma is always a step or two ahead of the police in solving the crimes.

The content is all typical of a good cosy mystery plus it is well written, nicely paced and very readable. I enjoyed all the characters and their animals and the setting. Any book set in a bookshop has to be good! I will be looking out for more by this author.

I finished this book in one sitting and as I read the last words I sighed and said out loud, this was really a good book. I am new to the series but had no problems with reading this book as a standalone. Characters are engaging, and the mystery was good and well plotted.. I’m off to request the backlist from the library.

This is the sixth installment in the Sherlock Homes Bookstore Mysteries. I’ve read them all, and in my opinion they get better and better with every book..
In this story, Gemma helps out a little girl who is missing her cat. When the child returns with another problem, it’s much bigger, her mother has been accused of murder. The writing is solid, and the characters are interesting and fun. The plot kept me engaged until the end of the book. I highly recommend not only this book, but the entire series. 4 stars.

Gemma is drawn into the murder investigation, against the wishes of her on-again-off-again boyfriend, the police detective who is officially investigating the murder. It's a briskly moving story with a good balance of plot and characterization, with Gemma narrating the story. cast of recurring characters.
This is the sixth book in the Sherlock Holmes Emporium series set-in present-day Cape Cod. It ticks all the boxes for a solid cozy mystery story. It can easily be read as a standalone and would be a good introduction to the series.

She is brilliant, loving and slightly socially awkward. This book starts off with a young girl and a missing kitty that has Gemma doing some self-evaluation and sleuthing. I just love the way Gemma's mind works and the glimpses we get into her thought processes. The mystery is full of twists and turns that had me guessing right up to the end. Adding in Gemma's relationship issues with Ryan makes for a thoroughly engaging book that I highly recommend.

the Sherlock Holmes series..

I hope Vicki Delany, will keep writing as she does, she has a gift to take you into the story
and let you forget everything around you.

I enjoyed this cozy read! As a Sherlock Holmes fan (read as big fan) I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely should read the other 5. Gemma Doyle was minding her on when she is requested to take on a private case and she is at first reluctant then fate has other plans and finds herself involved. If you like a good mystery with a bookshop you want to visit then you definitely need to read this. Huge thanks to the publisher for my ARC in exchange of an honest review

This is my favorite book in the series so far. The book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery. The characters have continued to develop and evolve over the series. Being a fan of Sherlock Holmes, Gemma is a fun modern spin on Sherlock. I like that Gemma embraces helping the little girl. Her relationship with this young girl gives Gemma a more relatable personality. The secondary characters are realistic, relatable, and entertaining. The mystery is well-developed with several well -lace red-herrings to keep the reader engaged in the story. I recommend this book to fans of the series, Sherlock Holmes, and cozy mysteries.

Gemma is thrown into another murder investigation when a young girl asks for help. I enjoyed this mystery a lot. The characters were fun, full of life and well developed. I love Gemma’s bookshop and pets. This was my first read in this series and it was easy to follow even though it’s not the first. The mystery had lots of twist and turns throughout. I will be reading more!
