This book focuses on Nicola, who has a condition where she has a perfect memory (hyperthymesia). In 1985, her now ex husband's dad, Arty, goes missing. Now, they have found his body & have arrested her ex husband for his murder. Nicola has to use her memory to help prove his innocence.

Sadly this book wasn't for me. One big thing for me was that I really didn't like Nicola. She jumped to conclusions far too quickly about who had murdered Arty. I found the story really repetitive and it really dragged, taking too long to get to what really happened. When we did get to what actually happened back in 1985, I just felt really underwhelmed. There was no major twist unfortunately. I also thought that after Nicola had been divorced from her ex husband for 20+ years she just dropped everything and put her life on hold to help him which i found really odd.

Interesting concept but just not for me. I hate to write a negative review, but feel I need to be honest & this was just my opinion, as I have seen lots of really good reviews for this book!

The protagonist of this thriller has a condition called hyperthymesia which means Nicola has the perfect memory. Not only is she able to recall every single detail but also the emotions and feelings along with it.

37 years after Nicola’s ex husband’s father disappeared his body is found and her ex husband arrested for his murder. Her ex; Dec calls her as she is able to provide him with an alibi for that night. Although she is able to recall the night in question with vivid detail Dec remains charged with his father’s murder. Does Nicola even understand what she remembers of that night? Nicola takes things into her own hands ‘playing’ at detective and as she uncovers secrets from the past the truth may be too close to home.

The story unfolds with alternating chapters between the past and the present. Although a unique premise this book was not an interesting read as the story line was dragged out. The story starts of slow and a lot of background detail is given however it is worth sticking with as everything falls into place during the last 20% of the book.

A brilliantly done whodunnit thriller.

Nicola, who has a memory condition, is jolted from the present into her past when she gets a phone call from her ex-husband 24 years later. He needs her to alibi him for a murder he says he didn’t commit.

She is compelled to investigate, to clear him, and finds herself drawn into a web of intrigue.

The book is beautifully written and is utterly compelling. The characters are strongly drawn and the situation has that elusive quality that it feels absolutely real. The end, when it comes, is a relief and I drew a massive deep breath.

Great writing, great story and great characters. Heartily recommended.

I have to start by saying thrillers are my favourite genre. I really enjoyed this book. I find the characters to be well developed and likeable, the storyline engaging and kept me interested and, of course, the unexpected plot twist at the end makes everything real, tying up past and present event. I enjoyed the interplay between then and now, it made for an entertaining read. The author did an excellent job pulling you into the story, making you feel as if you were there. I definitely recommend reading this book.

I would like to thank S.K. Sharp, Random House UK - Cornerstone and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for a fair and honest review..

I so appreciate the opportunity to preview this book, but, I, afraid it was such a disappointment.

What a fabulous premise though - a protagonist who cannot forget and who remembers everything about every experience throughout her life, including the disappearance of her boyfriend’s dad many years before. Then, a phone call from the police pull her back ..... I was so looking forward to reading this. However, what followed was a very wooden story with one dimensional characters and a boring storyline.

Not for me I’m afraid.

As someone who remembers everything she's ever seen in perfect detail, Nicola would be the perfect person to call to back up your alibi. But what about when that's not enough?

This book was a solid read. The pacing was slow at the beginning but it did pick up. There was a lot of repetitive information, especially surrounding Nicola's condition and it got boring to read about after the first third.

Of the two "major" twists, I guessed the first about 20 pages in and the second in the last third.

A solid read, I did finish this in a single day and I would recommend, but overall it's an average story line.

Really exciting well written mystery, following the life of a woman who can remember everything that has happened in her life, with clarity as if it's just happened.

Following the Discovery of her ex husbands fathers body, who went missing years earlier. She's dragged into the painful past.

This book kept me guessing right up to the very ending

Highly recommended read

Thank you Netgalley and Publishers for the Arc

I Know What I Saw is an unusual approach to crime solving with the minimum of police involvement. It started off very slowly but improves as you read on. Nicola has an extremely rare condition which means she can recall everything that has happened in her life. However, we eventually begin to see that no-one's memory can provide the absolute truth as we all are governed by our prejudices even subconsciously and so can only 'see' half a story in truth.

I guessed the outcome before it was revealed and overall felt that the plot would serve a TV series better than a book.

I really enjoyed this. Characters are likeable, story engaging and the unexpected twist in the tail makes everything real, bringing the past and present events together nicely. I enjoyed the frequent interplay between then and now, it was done well and made you feel almost as if you were there. Definitely worth reading.

Thanks to S.K. Sharp, Net Galley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for my ARC.

This book was intriguing at the start. The main character, Nicola, had a rare condition hyperthymesia, which I had never heard of, but thought it fascinating. The story goes backwards and forwards from present day to when Nicola was 16 and her boyfriend’s dad disappeared. Although the story started extremely well, it did lose its way in the middle and there was too much repetition which seemed to be used for bulking out the story. Nicola started off as an extremely savvy, confident person, but she became confused and edgy, not an asset to the story, she would have been a better character without the personality change. There were some good character portrayals, but the abrupt ending didn’t give them much scope. This book is an enjoyable read, with a different twist, but was a little too muddled in places.

This story is about Nicola, who has a fantastic memory and can remember things in detail as far back as when she was a young child, a condition known as Hyperthymesia. I found this book interesting and informative about the condition which I hadn’t heard of but felt that the story was lacking in depth and intrigue and in places went on a bit just to fill the book out.

Nicola has a perfect memory, a crime happened back in 1985, and she is being questioned about it in, 2020. The book goes back and forth between 1985 and 2020. The end really surprised me.

Loved the premise of this book - someone who has a photpgraphic memory. It was very interesting and made for a fascinating charactor.

The pace of the story was great and I loved hearing the background to thrir present circumstances.

It definitely holds your attention and I read this very quickly as I was invested in finding out the truth.

A real page turner.

A decent suspense novel that offers a variant on the memory trope. While the plot, itself, is moderately paced, S.K. Sharp does excel at developing well-crafted, dubious characters. The storyline moves deftly from past to present and is highly character driven. Recommended for those looking for a slow-burn narrative with mild to moderate mystery. 3 stars.

The premise of this book FASCINATED me, and the pros and cons of having such a rare condition were very well portrayed.
As others have said, I noticed a lull in the story in the middle but it was very fast paced in the final quarter which redeemed it for me. I did work out the twist, but very late on!
Overall, an enjoyable read.

I Know What I Saw by S. K Sharp

Here we meet Nicola who has a condition called Hyperthymesia which means that she can remember the vast majority of personal experiences from her whole life (which to me sounds more of a curse than a blessing). So when her ex Husband contacts her from the police station accused of his dads murder (who went missing when they were teenagers) she has to relive her past and discover some truths along the way in order to help him.

Her husband really let her down in the past when she needed him the most so it does make the reader question whether he deserves her help at all - but the author flicked between the past and present to old memories and it gave the reader a deeper understanding to the characters and their relationships - I really felt that I knew them. There were plenty of twists and turns to the story which I was not expecting. I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for giving me the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book!

I was hooked from the first page - having a perfect memory does not mean you understand what is happening, and Nicola is about to discover more about her past than she ever thought she could.

Nicola has a perfect memory or every moment in her entire life, good or bad. So when her ex husband Declan calls asking her to recall a specific night 35 years ago to the police, she can't help but offer what she knows. As Nicola takes us back in time to relive what she remembers, more secrets are discovered and the world Nicola thought she knew so we'll is turned upside down.

This book had me second guessing everything and I felt like a real Sherlock Holmes as I started putting clues together. A must read for for everyone who loves a whodunnit!

When I read the first line of its synopsis "She remembers everything and understands nothing" I knew I have to read this. The protagonist of the story suffers from a condition called Hyperthymesia, a completely novel syndrome for me and I was very excited to read about it. Impeccably written by the author in first-person narration by Nicola, a girl who suffers from this rare syndrome, this story is a humdinger of twists and turns.
The story starts with a surprise phone call when she is summoned by the police for a witness interview to investigate a case of her friend’s/ex-husband’s father who mysteriously went missing after a party she attended thirty-five years ago.
An intriguing and gripping read, written in two different timelines of past and present but so well connected that it flows smoothly without any breaks or loopholes. I finished it in a single sitting. Unputdownable! I was completely absorbed in the plot with pulse thumping in my head and heart racing so fast that I was continuously on the edge of my seat. It is a perfect thriller peppered with the ingredients of love, friendship, trust, bonding, heartbreaks, and ephebophilia. I had a few moments of sadness when I truly felt sorry for people who remember every minute details of their life, including the date and time, but cannot connect the dots and suffer. A perfect whodunit for the fans of thrillers like The Silent Patient. Thankyou #NetGalley, #RandomhouseUk for this ARC.

Memory is well known to play tricks on us as it certainly isn't infallible, but Nicola, a divorced fifty-something, lives with a life-altering condition called hyperthymesia, which allows her to remember an abnormally large number of her life experiences in vivid detail many years after the fact. It may sound a positive thing but it's a double-edged sword as even if she wants to she simply cannot forget which makes healing from hurt really tough. When her ex-husband is arrested for murder, after a body is discovered, both the police and her husband look to her to recollect events that happened nearly four decades ago; these events will be the crucial piece of the puzzle and will be key to uncovering the truth of the matter. What will her memories of that night over 35 years ago reveal?

Jumping back and forth in time from present-day Nicola to her formative years allows the story to unfold in an immersive fashion and it's impossible not to get caught up in the drama of it all. She finally feels, after many decades of causing her problems, that through her condition she may be able to provide assistance to the police by helping out the case whichever way her memory leans. Was she with her ex that night or were they apart? This is a compelling, exciting and interesting concept for a thriller and it turned out to be easy, fun and light entertainment from the beginning with some twists thrown in for good measure. All in all, it's a quick-paced, mysterious and engrossing story. Many thanks to Cornerstone Digital for an ARC.
