Elvis puffs out is actually the third collection of Breaking Cat News comics for middle-grade readers.

This book is super short and cute and has wonderful illustrations.

As always, thank you to the publisher and netgalley for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review

This lacks some of the charm of the first book. The owl subplot felt really different and I didn't find it very entertaining. One really heavy handed politics mention that was just really unnecessary and out of place, too.

It is always so much fun to visit with this news-minded cats again! In this collection the crew gets a new intern to help expand the story possibilities. This series continues to be great for both adult and child cat fans alike!!

In Elvis Puffs Out, the cats of Breaking Cat News are back with reports of more news stories important to cats. This fourth volume takes readers from winters to summer, hitting St. Patrick’s Day as the holiday, and introducing more animals to the cast.

The volume kicks off with the introduction of Beatrix, a polydactyl kitten who was stuck out in the snow. She wins the hearts of our three reporters, with grumpy Elvis watching over her. She is full of energy, a great climber, and even wins over Tabitha, the alpha female cat from upstairs. Other new animals we are introduced to include Trevor the dog who lives with the owner of the local bookstore, Baba Mouse, an old barn cat who lives at Quinn Farms, and Wicket, an old barn owl who was a suitor to Baba Mouse.

Following the same format as the previous volume, there are several short strips as well as some few longer ones. Beatrix is the focus of the volume, as we see her introduced, meet everyone, and join the CN crew as an intern before becoming the Bookstore Correspondent when she is adopted by the owner of the bookstore. The other extended story is a play on the poem The Owl and the Pussycat as Wicket and Baba Mouse reveal their history. The robber mice return as well, as Wicket’s return was foretold by the Golden Mouse.

There are some great short stories too. The freeze fight between Puck and Elvis is fun. And a warm night is spent with the peep frogs singing and dancing with the mice while Baba Mouse plays the fiddle. My laugh out loud story though is when Elvis falls asleep with his eyes open. I still laugh when I read it.

The humans make some good appearances too. I loved it when Tommy and his owner, who helps with a cat rescue, come over to check out Beatrix when she first arrives. Tommy’s owner is just as upbeat and happy as he is. The toddler begins potty training while the baby turns one. And the woman’s solution when Elvis becomes extra needy is just hilarious.

This series is just so much fun, and gives off such feel-good-feelings, it really isn’t a series to be missed. Dunn puts great details in the background and the bumper images between stories. She starts the Owl and Pussycat story with a cute bumper with Puck that follows through the story and becomes an important element at the end. And what makes it so much fun is that you don’t notice it at first, and only pops out on re-reads. And this is a book that is totally worth the re-reads.

Breaking Cat News continues to be a great series with fun and funny characters that have so much heart. They are the friends you want to keep coming to visit, because just seeing them lifts you up. Definitely lift this volume up into your bookshelf.

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

Such a cute and heartwarming children's graphic novel.
The art style is phenomenal and adds so much to the story.
I also thought the humor really worked and didn't seem forced and it really fit into the storyline.

Elvis Puffs Out is about Lupin, Elvis, Puck and a kitten they find in the snow. The kitten is very friendly and kind and she loves books. The kitten lives with the Breaking Cat News cats for a while, but eventually finds her forever home in a bookstore! It fits her perfectly.
The kitten is very good at organizing and helps the older cats. Like the others in this series, Elvis Puffs Out is very funny. If you've enjoyed the others, you'll love this one.

The Cat News reporters are back in this fun graphic novel. The cat reporters live with a family with two toddlers and they find lots of breaking news in their daily lives. They experience a snowstorm, a birthday party, a protest, and a stray kitten being fostered in the home.

This is a hilarious graphic novel series. My family and I care for a colony of feral cats at our house, so I could relate to these different cat personalities. I loved the reaction that the cats had to snow. They said the ground had disappeared and created a void. Some of our cats just experienced snow for the first time and they were just as shocked as the cats in this book.

The cats also reported on the news in a hilarious way. The actions of the humans often caused breaking news for the cats. For example, they were worried when the humans brought fire, in the form of a birthday candle on a cake, near the baby on her birthday. The cats asked the humans for interviews, but their owners couldn’t understand them so they couldn’t give interviews.

This is a hilarious parody on breaking news for cat lovers!

Just don't feel hopeless or jobless or whatever guilt feeling when you read books like this!

Yes, these books are actual books. Call them sketches, art sequence stories, graphic novels, comics whatever!

Reading such books with genuine art and efforts gives me immense joy and pleasure! And yes to all those puns and sarcasm and the grumpy as well as the sunshine characters! Hahahha! Made me laugh out loud with their unassuming ways!

I felt like I was actually reading someone's secret scrapbook. Love it.

Thanks to the publishers, the author and the artist for this ARC.

Cats telling the news! An interesting take but I did not enjoy it. I would have preferred something a little more exciting. Some of the clips felt disjointed and clunky. I felt lost a couple of times and I'm an adult. I don't think my students will be able to understand the transitions between stories.

My third-grade son and I have both loved reading Breaking Cat News and were so excited to see another volume published! Neither of us were disappointed in any way. I had him read it first and enjoyed hearing his hysterical giggling from the next room. If you're a fan of cats, or fun, or comics, definitely pick this up!

This series is amazing, and even more so during the COVID19 pandemic when my kids can print and cut out the paper dolls from the back of the book. Georgia did videos and other home crafting ideas as well. Best for ages 6 and up, but also good for adults with plenty of humor.

Breaking Cat News fans rejoice! This is the second book in the series out this year. All of our favorite characters are back – Elvis, Lupin, and Puck – the intrepid cat reporters who report on all the news that is important to cats, happy Tommy – friendly cat about town and his housemate Sophie the artist who works with “found objects,” Burt the barnyard AV tech, Baba Mouse – great, great, great … grandcat, Tabitha and Sir Figaro Newton – the ceiling cats who report for Gatos de Noticias, plus someone new! Lost polydactyl kitten Beatrix joins the series.

Thrill as the Man braves the void to rescue her from the nothingness that surrounds the Big Pink House where they live. Watch as Puck reports about the dubious meal the Woman has prepared for St. Patrick’s Day – it is meat, right? Even if Puck thinks it smells like dead socks. See Lupin and Beatrix compete in the climbing event from the laundry room. Nod as the Boys learn about inclusiveness as they discover that dogs are not shapeshifters nor their “bitey enemy.” Grin as station intern Beatrix drags the boys into the 21st century social media with a BCN twitter account.

One of my personal favorite posts makes an appearance “Sunday with Sophie” in which mixed media artist Sophie is confronted with hurtful cards, denigrating her choice of materials. She gets sader with each card she reads – until she opens the last one which thanks her for her recent exhibition that celebrates change and how this made the three legged writer feel better because of his change instead of despite it.

Plus there’s so much more: An interview with Baba Mouse about her youthful romantic relationship with a local owl, the Saga of the Golden Mouse, then tips on how to be a reporter, make spoon dolls, and more BCN paper dolls with outfit changes.

In this latest collection of reports from Breaking Cat News network, a kitten is rescued and the people foster it, leprechauns invade, the kitten becomes a CN intern, the toddler starts potty training, the baby celebrates her first birthday, an old screech owl comes into the neighborhood and ruffles some fur, plus adventures with plants, brushes, bath mats, paper towels, and donuts.

This was a fantastic collection of short stories with the Breaking Cat News cast. Georgia Dunn knows cats so well, and she knows how to relate everyday cat activities with humor. I laughed out loud several times. If you’re looking for some fun time with cats, snatch up this book. Highly recommended for all ages. I need to order this ASAP for our library. Cat comics/graphic novels are in super high demand.

This book is absolutely adorable and wholesome. I had so much fun reading about this book about a bunch of cats reporting news right in the comfort of home featuring a few other furry animals too. This story is super interesting, the way the cats report news just like journalists and the details are really amazing as well. It was well thought through, written really and beautifully executed as the illustrations are remarkable. I honestly cannot recommend this book enough as it is fun, light and the kind of read I really need right now.

Georgia Dunn can do no wrong! I love every minute of every Breaking Cat News books.

This comic collection follows some of the adventures of the Cat News team, full of many different cats (and other animals) and their interpretation of what's going on in their world. It's such an accurate depiction of life with cats and shows the humor of everyday life when interpreted by cats. I love the art style; I love the stories. Basically, I love everything about Breaking Cat News and am always looking forward to every new strip.

This is a silly little comic that's good for some chuckles. Nothing amazing but cute stuff. The illustrations are simple, the jokes are good for cat lovers.

This is very similar to previous books in the Breaking Cat News series. It hasn't lost any of its charm. I will suggest this series to my library's junior graphic novel readers.

I love Georgia Dunn and have been following her work for a while. The first artwork of hers that I saw was the piece on shelter cats and adoption. Her work is inclusive: Lupin is deaf and Puck is a tripod kitty. Trevor suffers from anxiety and Elvis has *ahem* anger management issues. The cats upstairs are Spanish-speaking and run Gatos de Noticia. All of her wonderfully drawn and painted characters have something to bring to the table. She always manages to make any moment fun, loving and teachable. A brilliant resource for kids (and for adults too). This is a collection of some of Dunn's most beloved story-lines, especially the introduction of Beatrix the kitten, a polydactyl stray found outside freezing in the snow. If you want beautiful and charming watercolors, and all the warm and fuzzy feels, this is the book for you.
