Holly and Alice are sister who have always looked out for each other. Alice, being older, has always felt protective of her younger sister since their Dad walked out and their mother died.
After years of being molly coddled by her big sister and her mother, Holly whats adventure and freedom and after meeting her soul mate, Luke, that is exactly what she gets with devastating consequences.
I've always loved Zoe Miller's ability to combine an easy read with a bit of suspense and that is exactly what you should expect from The Perfect Sister. I really liked the characters in this book and the exciting plot that kept me guessing to the end. I would recommend this book to my customers.

I was really looking forward to a bit of a mystery book however it was quite a depressing read. The underlying archs of the irish recession, job loss, messy divorce, single life and bad weather meant it took a long time for me to read as after a few pages it was a bit too emotionally negative. However the plot twist of what happened to Jayleth and the story surrounding this was enough to keep me reading.

I will be honest. This book was confusing. Nothing that we are supposed to “know” came from the story. The sisters were close at one point and now they are not. Then a murder takes place and Holly and her husband take off. Alice needs to find out why.

I really didn’t understand a lot of this book and why it was happening. I mean the family dynamic is really off. It is not like the sisters love or hate each other. They just are sisters and nothing more. Then there are a bunch of other characters that have nothing to do with the story.

The suspense was fine. I am not really sure with all the other confusion that I cared about the suspense but it was still there to read.

Loved the setting in Ireland and the story of Alice and Holly, two sisters, one protective and one rather a wild child. The story develops slowly, with a vast array of characters and various unseemingly connected narratives and timeframes. Interesting but not the domestic thriller I was expecting from the blurb. Enjoyed it though.

The Perfect Sister by Zoe Miller focuses on sisters Alice and Holly. They were close growing up, but are now estranged. A mistake from several years ago looms large in this story. What is Holly hiding?

Synopsis:

Once inseparable, years of resentment and jealousy have driven Alice and Holly apart. But, though they barely speak these days, Alice knows her sister is hiding something.

When she hears that a discovery at a soon-to-be-demolished apartment building has led police to re-open an ‘accidental death’ case, Alice thinks nothing of it. She’s distracted by a recent chance encounter with a charismatic man named Damien, and the possibility of romance when she had given up all hope. Until someone knocks at her door, with questions about Holly.

Alice doesn’t believe her sister is capable of involvement in anything so sinister. But when she tries to contact Holly, she can’t be reached…

Forced to dig through the past in order to uncover the truth, Alice starts to uncover years of Holly’s secrets – and to doubt her innocence. As the evidence mounts up, Alice has a choice to make: does she want to help her sister clear her name, even if the price is her own future with Damien?

I’d classify this as a “slow burn” type of book that is suspenseful but not a page-a-minute-thrill ride. It’s a good, solid story, and I liked it.

Out now! Get it right this minute by going here.

Sisters Alice and Holly grew up six years apart and vowed to be there for one another after their father left their mother to bring them up alone. Having recently gone through the bereavement of their dear mum they should be closer than ever before, right? But the truth of the matter is that they rarely speak anymore and are both living separate lives and have drifted apart. When Holly weds the love of her life, Luke, she requests her share of their mother’s inheritance and Alice hands it over albeit reluctantly. Over the next few years, Holly and Luke grow accustomed to the materialistic lifestyle afforded to them through the money left to her; they go on luxurious vacations and purchase a new Jeep which becomes Luke’s pride and joy. Alice is currently residing in the family home with her daughter and waiting on divorce proceedings to be finalised. She is also in the depths of a brutal custody battle but things start to look up for her when she meets a nice guy who seems to be exactly what she needs to move on from all of the hurt. Alice begins to worry frantically when she's unable to reach Holly at all but Holly has been keeping secrets. Can the two sisters ever be close again after the secrets, lies and betrayals are revealed?

This is a fast-paced, sophisticated and compelling domestic thriller that peels back the layers of veneer to show the reality of Holly’s seemingly picture-perfect lives. As the secrets lurking beneath the surface are slowly revealed we are treated to a twisty-turny tale with a multitude of surprises and some crazy revelations. It is well written, although there are perhaps too many moving parts to the story and the author pens a riveting tale of sibling rivalry and estranged relationships. Midway through the story slows and starts to drag a little bit but soon picks up again. The cast of characters are all rather unlikeable so if you need likeable, affable characters to cheer for this may not be for you. This is a wildly entertaining, compulsive and addictive read which is truly gripping from beginning to end. I was shocked by much of what was revealed as Miller ratchets up the tension before leaving you gobsmacked at the explosive finale. It is a quick, relatively lighthearted thriller of the type you read on the beach for a bit of escapism. Highly recommended. Many thanks to Hatchette Ireland for an ARC.

Shy librarian Alice has always been the perfect sister, protective and nurturing to her younger sister Holly. Holly, a spendthrift who with her husband Luke is confronting mounting debt, could not be more different from her sister and it is those differences that lead to trouble in this fast paced psychological thriller from Zoe Miller.

Alice is working through her divorce from high powered lawyer Ronan and fighting for custody of her young daughter Chloe when she sees a brief story about a condemned apartment building on the evening news. She passes that story on to Holly who used to live in that building. This small act sets in motion a series of events that will reveal long hidden secrets and destroy relationships.

You will not be able to stop reading The Perfect Sister! The suspense just keeps building and just when you think you have it all figured out, another twist is revealed. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Books Ireland and Zoe Miller for this ARC.

Sisters, Zoe and Alice, haven't really seen eachother since Zoes sudden move seven years ago. Alice has made attempts, but Zoe seems too busy living the perfect life to even pick up the phone.
But Zoes life is far from perfect. She is running from her past, with secrets she can't confide in Alice. One mistake, seven years ago, changed her life.

The Perfect Sister is a slow burn thriller. Alice and Zoe's relationship is the main focus throughout the beginning of the story. Though it wasnt gripping you immediately for a thriller, it would be important later when their relationship suddenly changes. I think it was important to do the extra character development for both sisters, to show how different their lives really are.
The thriller part of the story reveals itself mid book. Things start to get really good. The pace picks up as an investigation starts and reveals secrets. The writer did an awesome job with the timeline and buildup, as well as leaving tidbits to pick up for the mystery.
Zoe Miller is a new writer to me. I am glad she is on my radar now and look forward to reading her next book.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

The story centres around Holly and Alice, who are sisters who were Close growing up, but ended up growing apart and being more like strangers. When, on the news, they hear of a building being demolished where Holly and her husband Luke once lived, both sisters are terrified. Buried secrets threaten to come to the surface and destroys Holly’s life and those around her.

The story goes between the past and the present, so we get to see the back stories of the sisters, and how their relationship has changed. There were a few characters, and many of them were likeable and relatable. I found this a slow but great read, and the first I’ve read by this author.

Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book if you like a domestic thriller, with twists and turns.

This book had a really good story line and it kept you guessing until the very end. The characters fell a little flat for me though and I had trouble connecting with any of them. This is a good book to pick up if you’re looking for a quick, suspenseful read.

This is the story of 2 sisters. Alice and Holly. Alice has spent her whole life watching over Holly, and when it seems that Holly might have gotten herself into some trouble Alice is left trying to peace together events from the past. It seems that alot of things are connected Alice and Damien, Damien and Jay, Jay and Holly, Holly and Luke. How all of these people are connected is a bit of a puzzle that we slowly learn about through this story.

I thought the book was well written, and while I did like Alice and Damien, and was interested in what was happening between them. I had a hard time connecting to the characters.especially Holly and luke, even though they were a big part of the story I found myself not really interested in them at all. Also the story moved too slow for me to stay completley engaged in what was going on.
I loved that it takes place in Ireland, Ive alway wanted to visit there. Also I liked the different timelines and perspectives for Alice and Holly. Seeing how the past has affected the present.
I do think other people would really enjoy this book, and I would read other things by this author. This book just wasn't for me.

Thank you to netgally and the publisher for letting me read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is told from the viewpoints of Alice and her sister, Holly. When Holly was born, Alice vowed to herself that she would look out for Holly enough to make up for their absent father who walked out before Holly was born. Alice lives up to her promise, however in recent years the two sisters, who were once very close, are driven apart by secrets and jealousy.

When a block of flats Holly used to live in is being demolished, she gets worried. She wants to talk to Alice about it.. but how can she? They are not that close anymore and Holly's husband Luke barely gives her a second to herself when Alice is around.

Meanwhile Alice, gets a knock on the door with questions about Holly. Whilst Alice knows her sister is hiding something, there is no way that Alice believes Holly would have been involved in anything so sinister. , Forced to dig through the past to uncover the truth- Alice uncovers years of Holly's secrets and begins to doubt her innocence.

The Perfect Sister is a psychological thriller which keeps you on your toes guessing! The bond between the sisters was excellent and the book really showed that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, as both sister's fought their own troubles. Zoe Miller, made it easy to relate to the emotions of the characters and the motives behind their actions. For example, Holly didn't want to admit her debt to Alice, which led to a spiral of problems. Whilst it is easy to say 'Well why didn't you say so', you can totally understand why she wouldn't want to admit that and feel for her about how she got into the situation that she found herself in.

Overall, a really good read. Every time I thought I knew, something else came to light.

Alice and Holly have been through a lot together – raised by a single mum after their dad leaves when Alice is young and before Holly is born, then through the heartbreak of their mum dying suddenly at a young age, yet there’s a distance between them now which Alice finds difficult to deal with. The story centres around an incident from Holly’s past which despite her new idyllic countryside lifestyle still haunts her. When buried secrets threaten to come to the surface and destroy Holly and those around her, Alice is determined to find out the truth and to stand by her sister, no matter what, as she has done throughout her life. This was an enjoyable, well written book, with a few unexpected twists and turns. I’d recommend this title to anyone who enjoys the mystery and thriller genre. This is a thriller than you will not be able to put down.

It has everything, greatly written, understandable and well thought out characters.

Whilst you would hope to never find yourself in a situation with them their motives and beliefs all ring true.

Spectacular

Alice and Holly were once close sisters that shared a life together. As envy and secrets bulid, they become strangers. Alice wonders what happened to the little sister she once protected. Is Holly still the loving sister she once knew, or has she grown into someone mysterious with covert actions? Alice's search for the truth and Holly's desire for peace become entangled in this story of family bonds and betrayal. How well do we really know the ones closest to us? This is a slow burn mystery that explores family connections and unconditional trust. Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Books for my ARC.
