Tansy grew up knowing that she was a witch with a friendly but kooky grandmother to show her the peaceful ways. She did not expect to be turned into a vampire-witch and have to hunt down a rock band to save her best friend. Tansy is joined for this fast moving adventure by her long-time crush but very much friend-zoned guy.
So I did like how this book was fast paced and an easy read with a flowing style of writing. I just got held up many places on how easy it was for Tansy to navigate every situation she was in. She's never practiced any combat witchery and never been a vampire, but she seems to be knocking her obstacles out easily. Plus, everything seemed much too convenient so there was not much concern driving you forward.

First of all, thank you so much to Entangled Teen and NetGalley for sending me an eARC of this!

I love that there's an uptick in YA vamp novels again, so i was super stoked to come into this one. Unfortunately, overall this one felt a bit young for me. Some YA ages well and is more readable to older audiences as well as younger audiences, but this want felt kind of cutesy, and I'm in general not a huge fan of friends to lovers.

I might end up giving the audiobook a shot. When I get confused (this had a lot of twists and a crazy plot, so it could be a bit difficult to keep track of what was happeneing) I tend to try the audiobook and see if I enjoy it more.

I know this is a shorter review, but I don't have a ton of thoughts on this one, unfortunately! I think it's defintely geared towards a younger YA rather than an older YA audience. Rating it up 1 star since I think it's geared to a younger audience.

The Afterlife of the Party Marlene Perez an over excitable five-star read. I had a hard time coming up with a rating for this one, as it was a bit marmite for me, I loved it then I hated it and then I loved it again, and was like that the whole way through. It was funny and dramatic, but then it tried to hard, I finally decided on five-stars as I really did enjoy it overall and cant wait to see what chaos will ensue in the follow up story. Tansy was a good character, her loyalty for her friend Skyler even when she really didn’t deserve it just astounded me. This has so much going on, like what really happened with Skyler’s boyfriend, why did he really leave, and what secret is Vaughn keeping, there hasn’t been one, but something is bugging me and I need to know, all of these things added to the drama and the twists and kept this a thrilling and compelling read in more ways than one.

When Tansy is pressured into going to a party with her best friend, Skyler, she didn’t expect it to be a blood bath.

Now she is on the trail of the vampire who bit her and kidnapped Skyler. Along with her other friend Vaughn, the sexual tension is high and the vamps might just outsmart them.

This is Buffy meets True Blood and I’m here for it!

Tansy's best friend Skyler gets involved with a vampire emo band called "The Drainers" and it's up to her, the guy she secretly fancies and her witch Granny to save Skyler from their clutches!

A fun concept with alot to like but also some writing issues that holds me back from giving this a higher rating. I really liked most of the characters, Granny and her coven of sassy OAPs were hilarious and I loved the relationship between Tansy and Vaugn. I would have liked to learn more about Tansy's abilities as a witch and the whole supernatural element to this story, it was abit under developed for me and I think there was definitely room to explore that more. Things got a little repetitive and there were a few characters that I had no idea why they were involved at all really but other than that I found it a funny and enjoyable read.

Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was the fun, quick read I needed.

Tansy, Skyler, and Vaughn were best friends living in Southern California. Things were great except that Skyler was hurt by her ex boyfriend. Also, Tansy liked Vaughn as more than friends, but he had a girlfriend. But they were popular and got to spend time at the beach whenever they wanted. Tansy is a witch. She was raised by her grandma after her mom abandoned her. Granny kept everyone safe and happy.

Skyler wants Tansy to go to a party in LA with her. She met a guy that she really liked and his band was playing at the party. Tansy reluctantly agreed to go. That's when things got bad. The band members were vampires. Skyler had already been controlled and bled and Tansy had no idea. Tyler, the lead singer and Skyler's new boyfriend, bit Tansy. She didn't become a full vampire, but she got fangs. She became a vampire witch hybrid. Tansy wants revenge, but she mostly wants to save Skyler. She would do anything to keep her friend safe. Then she finds out about all the young girls being bitten without their permission. There was no consent. Tansy meets a few girls who say they want to help out. While she doesn't trust them, she's willing to accept their help and knowledge. While fighting with vampires, Tansy finds out more about her past and the vampire hierarchy.

The book was a fast read. I enjoyed having something that I could just sit and read and not have to focus on as much. It reminded me how much I loved to use paranormal books as an escape from reality. That's definitely needed right now in 2020.

I gave this book 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4. Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for my earc.

Warnings for things being done without consent, parental abandonment, and a lot of blood.

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Tansy didn’t even want to go to the party. It’s hard enough living in one of your best friend’s shadows and secretly in love with your other best friend.

And now she’s leaving it a vampire.

I'm not really into the the whole vampire reads.
However, this book really wasn't that bad.
I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, the plot.
It was quite interesting

Thanks to NetGalley, Publisher and Author for this Complimentary copy.

Skyler, Tansy, and Vaughn are the three 🧍🏼‍♀️🧍🏽‍♀️🧍🏼‍♂️best friends that anyone could ever have (I hope you sang that). Sky and Tansy connect over their absentee, NOT cute made for TV/Disney mothers. Vaughn is gorgeous 🥰 on the outside but growly and cuddly like a teddy 🧸bear on the inside. But girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend! He's off limits. 🙅🏼‍♀️ Maybe. Skyler had apocalyptically bad taste in music yet somehow convinces music lover, Tansy, to tag along with her to watch a band 👨🏻‍🎤🤘🏼perform in the Hollywood Hills. Worst. Party. Ever. You know how sometimes you crave 🍫chocolate? Since the party, Tansy had been getting that feeling a lot. But it wasn't chocolate she craved. It was blood🩸. That's right... unenthusiastically attends party, leaves as a saucy vampire.🧛🏻‍♀️ Eep! Where's Sky? Stuck as a hashtag Bleeder on a tour bus with a literal band of vamps actually called The Drainers. Friends-to-lovers (?), Tansy and Vaugh set out to save Sky and take down The Drainers. However, the lead singers (eek- he makes your ears bleed) dad is the numero uno, the big cheese, the guy in charge, the big bad vampire daddy. Yikes! That could be a problem🙈. Kill the head vamp, reverse the transformation. Got it. In the middle of a vamp war, will Tansy face the consequences or make sacrifices in order to save her bestie? The Afterlife of the Party is the perfect 🍂fall or 🧙🏼‍♀️🎃 October 👻 read. The snarky dialogue and pop culture references were clutch 👏🏼👌🏼. Marlene Perez's other series has been optioned by Disney for television and I could absolutely see TAOTP being pitched to studios as well.

Many thanks 👏 to Entangled Teen for allowing me to take a bite 😉 out of an advanced reader copy!

The Afterlife of the Party is an interesting and bewitching YA book about vampires and witches that will suck you in. Marlene Perez centers the story around a teenage girl named Tansy and how here life changes after one party with her friends. If you enjoy vampire reads/shows like Twilight, Crave, and The Vampire Diaries you are going to want to read this book!

Tansy is trying to live a normal teenage life dealing with issues like trying not to have feelings for her best guy friend, Vaughn, and going to parties with her free-spirited friend Skyler. And she did go to that party and boy did it change her life!

At the party, she meets Travis, lead singer of The Drainers, and doesn't get good vibes from him. He is conceited and pushy and definitely not good enough for Skyler. It doesn't take much for Tansy to know that Travis is a vampire. But she is unprepared and shocked when he bites her without her consent. One bite. That's all it took to turn Tansy's world upside down.

Tansy grew up with her Granny and being a Mariotti witch so she always heard about paranormal beings like vampires but never came in contact with them before until now. She is wondering if that bite makes her a vampire and needs to do research about what is a myth and what is factual. But, things get more complicated when her best friend can't break her bond with Travis. She and Vaughn will do anything to save Skylar from Travis and the rest of the vampires. There will be bloodshed, but Tansy, Vaughn, Granny, and some new friends are up for the fight!

My love of YA paranormal and vampire books started with Twilight and it has been sparked again with reads like this one. Marlene gives readers a fierce and bold character in Tansy. Her bravery and loyalty to her friends are captivating. And yes there is romance in this book between Tansy and Vaughn. They have such a great friendship and it made me happy to see their relationship blossom even when their backs were up against the wall. The suspense and mystery of the book were so intriguing and fascinating. The perfect lead up for more books in the series.

I give The Afterlife of the Party 5 stars. It's an engaging YA paranormal read that left me wanting more. The characters are great, the history of vampires and witches in this book are unique and compelling, and the romance is swoon-worthy. I am so glad that there will be more books in this series because that ending had me begging for more. If you are finished with Midnight Sun and need a good vampire read that's alluring and well-written, then I highly recommend The Afterlife of the Party!

This was as if you took Jennifer’s Body and the Coldest Girl in Coldtown and mixed it together, but amped up the campiness and toned down the action and it definitely has a younger vibe to it. Sadly for me, this did not turn out how I was hoping it would. The story revolves around Tansy ( a witch), her crush Vaughn ( recently broken up with his gf), and Skyler ( recently dumped, party crazy, and in a new relationship). Skyler makes Tansy go to a party to meet Skyler’s new boyfriend’s band, and things take a turn for the worst when he and his bandmates turn out to be vampires and take a bite out of her and Tansy. From there, it’s a road trip story about Tansy trying to rescue Skyler while dealing with her crush on Vaughn. The characters acted, and felt very young, even though they were in high school, and the plot seemed to drag on for a bit. The one thing I have to say that slightly irritated me while reading this was that Tansy wasn’t dealing with the very high stakes situation she was in, in a really smart way, she acted like she’s a badass while in actuality, not so much. I didn’t really care for the romance between Vaughn and Tansy and it gave me more of a lukewarm feeling. The entire 90% of the book Tansy is going on and on about how she has to save Skyler, but she’s given various opportunities to do so and could have done a better job doing so... and there are added characters that don’t exactly affect the story and just show up ( I’m looking at you Rose and Thorn). The danger is prominent in the story and whats being done to these girls is horrifying, being controlled, either being drained of blood or killed off, having no choice or control over their bodies and what is being done to them, it was really hard to read, and yet the way Tansy just has zero game plan or anything to save these girls just felt wrong. The last 10% is when she suddenly just goes all out and things miraculously work out for her. This book has all the things I normally love: vampires, romance, evil boy bands, rescuing friend missions.... and yet it just did not work for me. I was just happy to have finished and then realized this was going to be a series and there is more to come in this story and I don’t really know if I actually want to know more.

There was a lot to like about this book! Tansy's "fun" night out with her best friend, Skyler, takes a dramaticc turn for the worst. It seems vampires are real and Skyler is enthralled by one of them. Tansy, and her crush Vaughn, team up to track Skyler and the vampires down. However, they might not know exactly what they're getting into.

I think the story itself is very good and entertaining. I loved the overall plot, and I loved how the author wasn't afraid to get a little gorey and kill a few people. All of that really lended itself to the vampire theme! I also liked the characters; Vaughn and Tansy's relationship was a huge highlight for me (I'm a sucker for romance) and I loved how clueless they were. I think the author also knows how to keep the reader engaged in the story. I had some laugh out loud moments (grandma sending you condoms, anyone?) and really flew through the book because I just wanted to know what was happening next!

My real grievances come from needing more development. Tansy is a witch! I would've loved to learn more about that background prior to the beginning party. Developing that storyline out well would've helped a lot for some of my other concerns. Everything seemed too simple for Tansy...for example, she killed (several) vampires with a drumstick and it seems she just...stabbed them. Given the supernatural powers of a vampire, it shouldn't be so easy. I would've loved to see some witchy goodness there to help her out!

Overall, this was a good read. I would recommend it to friends who like vampire stories and need something to devour. I read it in a day and it kept my attention! The author knows how to write a good story.

Join Tansy as she embarks on a road trip with her friend/crush Vaughan. They’re following a band that’s on tour, but not because they’re groupies. They’re trying to save Tansy’s best friend, Skylar, from the clutches of Travis, the band’s lead singer. Travis is a vampire that’s been feasting on Skylar.

The first in a planned trilogy, ‘The Afterlife of the Party’ sucked me in straight away. (See what I did there? 🧛🏼‍♂️) I felt like I already knew Tansy, Skylar and Vaughan, and enjoyed hanging out with them. I loved the name of the vampire’s band, ‘The Drainers’, and I was keen to learn all about Tansy’s witch heritage.

I appreciated that consent was addressed in a vampire story, although after the vampires were introduced there were a number of scenes that had me scratching my head. I do need to acknowledge that I read an uncorrected proof so it’s entirely possible that the things I struggled with may not be included in the final version. Having said that …

Rose and Thorn mostly wandered in and out of scenes and didn’t contribute a great deal to the story. I anticipate they will have a larger role in the sequels, and I hope they do because their characters have the potential to become very interesting. However, by the end of this book both they and the Paranormal Activities Committee they work for seem pretty irrelevant.

I didn’t always feel the urgency of Tansy and Vaughn’s attempts to find Skylar. Especially when Tansey [SPOILER - found Skylar close to death, did a quick healing spell on her and then left her again - SPOILER].

Sometimes terms that had already been defined, like Bleeders, would be reexplained in later chapters.

Tansey says she told Granny the “entire story” but less than ten paragraphs later she mentions a key part of the story that she has kept from her.

“I knew I’d have to tell her eventually, but I wasn’t quite ready for the look of disappointment I’d see.”

The showdown that I knew was inevitable as soon as a certain character was introduced disappointed me. [SPOILER - It was over and done with much too quickly for my liking. If someone is going to try to take out a Big Bad I want there to be more of a fight, and maybe a cliché Big Bad monologue to go with it. While there are still plenty of baddies left for our heroes to deal with in the sequels, if it was that easy to get rid of the Big Bad then won’t their underling’s deaths be even easier? - SPOILER]

I hope the sequels reveal the identity of Tansy’s father and explain what the deal is with Connor. I want more time with Granny, who could become my favourite character if I got to know her better. I’d also love to see Tansy and her friends cross paths with other hidden world creatures.

Content warnings include the violent death of an animal and mention of sexual assault. Readers with emetophobia may have trouble with some scenes.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Entangled Teen, an imprint of Entangled Publishing, for the opportunity to read this book. I’m rounding up from 3.5 stars.

I was excited to read this one because it’s very much something that reminds me of my teen years. It didn’t disappoint in that aspect because emo bands and vampires. Hello, 2008!

There were certainly things that I did like about this book. One of them being how easy it was to get hooked. It was definitely quite hard to put down at the beginning. I also liked that Tansy and Vaughn would do anything for their friend Skyler. That’s dedication especially when you are dealing with vampires.

The plot is pretty crazy and filled with many different plot twists. At times it was hard to keep track of everything but I guess that’s also why it was so easy to get hooked. You turn the page and something else comes at you. I wouldn’t say that there was much character development but the plot leaves you satisfied enough. I had a couple issues with it which will be discussed below.

The romance was also cute and usually I’m not one for friends-to-lovers but because this talked about their past and they obviously had been crushing on each other for awhile, I didn’t mind it.

Now let’s talk about why I didn’t like it, which is basically the last half of the book. By the way, this section will have spoilers.

The one thing that really turned me off was how the King of vampires basically was Epstein but instead of an island he had a mansion in the middle of nowhere. There were young girls there who are compelled to be draped on old men and let men suck them dry. Obviously this seems quite similar to child trafficking. I don’t like to read things like this and yeah, nothing was really described but the context is there. I have read contemporary books about trafficking but I knew beforehand what I was getting into and I had time to prepare myself. I just wasn’t expecting this.

Another thing I had a hard time with was the ending. For a teen who didn’t know much about her witchy side, she learns quite quickly and is able to defeat a real powerful vampire without any hesitation. It’s a real turn off when the main character is able to do such mighty things in the span of just one book.

Overall, it was just an okay read. If it wasn’t for the last half I would have enjoyed it a bit more. I don’t think that everyone will have the same issues as me and that’s okay. Every reader is different. Maybe I’m not the right audience for the book. Either way, I don’t think I will continue this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Afterlife of the Party lays into it's campy nature in the best way possible. Following Tansy after her best friend Skyler drags her to a party where both girls are bitten by vampires, Tansy quickly learns that both she and her grandmother are actually witches, meaning that she's now a witch-vampire hybrid.

When Skyler is taken by the vampire that bit them, Tansy decides that the only natural way of reacting is to grab her friend/possible love interest, team up with a group of other young people trying to take down the evil vampire band, and try to save Skyler.

It was a really fun read, I just felt like the end dragged on a tad. We kind of get to what felt like a book one conclusion, the tension and pace slow down, then we're abruptly thrown into the actual book one conclusion and it really threw me off as a reader
